- Brent Sexton Scores Top-10 Finish in Petaluma USCS Race
Lakeside, CA — July 18, 2026 — Veteran racer Brent Sexton made the long haul to Northern California last weekend for Ultimate Sprint Car Series races at Watsonville and Petaluma Speedways. A ninth-place finish in his first appearance at Petaluma highlighted an enjoyable weekend of dirt-track racing. Sexton, a Tennessee native who resides in Lakeside, California, kicked off the two-night trip Friday at Watsonville. In 2025, when the facility was known as Ocean Speedway, the three-time Lightning Sprint Car champion made his first appearance on the quarter-mile track located 88 miles south of San Francisco. In one of his best performances of the season, he started seventh in the main event, raced inside the top five and finished fifth. Unfortunately, his return visit last week did not produce the same result. After recording a qualifying lap of 13.230, Sexton, the only member of the SGR team competing during the weekend, started and finished sixth in his heat race. He began the main event in 18th and advanced three positions to finish 15th. On Saturday, Sexton traveled north to Petaluma, California, a city once known as "The Egg Capital of the World," for his first appearance at Petaluma Speedway. Looking to rebound at the North Bay track, Sexton stopped the qualifying clock at 16.178. The lap was third-fastest in his group and ninth-best overall. He followed his strong qualifying effort with a third-place finish in his heat race. That placed him on the inside of the fifth row, ninth overall, for the main event. Sexton maintained that position throughout the race and crossed the finish line ninth. The result marked Sexton's 12th top-10 finish in 20 A-main starts during the 2026 season. For more updates, follow Sexton Gatlin Racing on social media and stay tuned for results throughout the 2026 season. - Sexton Gatlin Racing Doing Double Duty at Ventura Raceway
Lakeside, CA — June 25, 2026 — After a rare three-week break in its 2026 schedule, Sexton Gatlin Racing returns to action this Saturday night, June 27, in a rare doubleheader at Ventura Raceway. The event, the SureCan Showdown, is an Ultimate Sprint Car Series twin bill featuring both non-wing and winged sprint cars. Brent Sexton will compete in his 410 sprint car on the wingless side of the program. Between the USCS, Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, California Lightning Sprints, SoCal Lightning Sprints, and winged 360s, the veteran driver from Lakeside, California, has been one of the busiest racers in the Golden State in 2026. Saturday will mark his 18th start of the season, and the beachside oval is one he has raced on for decades. Sexton, a three-time lightning sprint car series champion, has finished in the top 10 nine times in his 17 starts this year. His best result came at Ventura on March 21, when he placed second in the California Lightning Sprint Car Series main event. Saturday will be his sixth start with the USCS this season. His best finish with the club came on March 28, when he crossed the line seventh at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare. He also finished ninth with the series at Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway on May 30. Grant Sexton will be racing the team's winged 360 at Ventura. A veteran of lightning sprint racing, like his father, he is no stranger to winged competition. However, this will be only his second start in a winged 360 sprint car. His first came last November at Merced Speedway against a tough field. Impressively, he qualified 21st fastest of the 31 cars on hand. After a seventh-place finish in his heat race, he was forced into the B main, where he captured one of the four transfer spots. He started 24th in the main event and finished 20th. Grant, who will turn 22 on July 16, will be making his seventh start of 2026. Like his father, he has contested a varied schedule that includes the Ultimate Sprint Car Series, California Lightning Sprints, and SoCal Lightning Sprints. His best finish of the year came on April 4, when he scored a victory with the CLS at Santa Maria Speedway. Gates will open at 3:00 p.m. at Ventura, with the first race scheduled for 5:30. For more information, visit Ventura Raceway or call (805) 648-RACE. Ventura Raceway is located on the Ventura County Fairgrounds at 10 W. Harbor Blvd., Ventura, CA 93001. - Justyn Cox claims 2nd career SCCT win on Saturday at Watsonville Speedway
Watsonville, CA…Not many drivers have been more consistent when it comes to Winged 360 Sprint Car racing over the last year than Justyn Cox in the Golden State of California. Going into Saturday at Watsonville Speedway, it had been over four years since he tasted victory lane with the Elk Grove Sprint Car Challenge Tour. The Clarksburg racer put it all together at the 66th Johnny Key Classic however and raced to his second career SCCT victory during the event. Cox took the lead at the waving of the green flag of the 30-lap Shop Kyle Larson feature and held command until young Landon Henry slid to the front on lap seven. Cox returned the favor shortly after though and dominated the remaining distance to score victory. Henry crossed the stripe in second to record his best career SCCT finish, with two-time Watsonville Speedway champ Caleb Debem in third. Marysville's Dawson Hammes came home in fourth with Livermore's Travis Labat in fifth. Completing the top 10 were Pit Stop USA/ Taco Bravo Hard Charger Carson Hammes, fast qualifier Jake Haulot, Jake Morgan, Jason Chisum and Adrianna DeMartni. Stockton's Caden Sarale dominated the BCRA/WMR Midget Super Series event over Logan Mitchell, Matt Streeter, Brody Petrie and Nicholas Leonard. The West Coast Pro Stocks saw Frank Nyback get his first career victory over Richard Brace Jr, Nick Silva, Rob Gilbertson and Brent Lawrence. The Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour returns to action with Western Sprint Tour Speedweek starting on July 17th at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. - Andy Forsberg snags 10 career SCCT victory on Saturday at Petaluma Speedway
Petaluma, CA…Veteran Andy Forsberg has always enjoyed going to Petaluma Speedway over the years. On Saturday night the Auburn driver took command on lap seven and was never seriously challenged afterwards, on way to his 10th career Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour triumph. Forsberg becomes the fourth driver in SCCT history to reach double digit victories since the series debuted in 2017, joining Shane Golobic, Justin Sanders and Dominic Scelzi in that club. "Petaluma Speedway has been one of my favorite places to come for a long time," commented the 49-year-old driver to infield announcer Rick Faeth. "It was a little different tonight and a bit tricky, but my team gave me a great car. I want to thank all you fans for coming out and supporting this place with SCCT." The 30-lap Shop Kyle Larson feature started out with Cotati's Jake Haulot jumping into the lead. A lap six restart then saw Forsberg pounce to claim the top spot that he would never relinquish. The driver of the Pacific Highway Rentals No. 92 mount pulled away on each ensuing restart and took the checkered flag for his second straight Petaluma win in SCCT competition. Castro Valley's Jake Andreotti got by Haulot on lap 16 and went on to cross the stripe in second. It was the second time this season that Andreotti has finished runner up with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. Haulot, Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Colby Copeland and young Cole Croft completed the top five in the main event. The top 10 was filled out by Dawson Hammes, Adrianna DeMartini, Carson Hammes, Bryant Bell and Dryver Dothage. Justyn Cox claimed the High Sierra Industries Dash to earn the pole in the main event. The 2023 SCCT champion and current point leader was a victim of the two stop rule however and suffered a DNF in the feature. Cox also captured the Tiner-Hirst Ent. heat race while Jake Haulot won the BR Motorsports heat. Andy Forsberg began the evening by setting the Sierra Foothills Wine Services Fast Time Award with a lap of 12.730 around the 3/8 mile clay oval. - Landon Henry becomes a Sprint Car winner on Friday night at Watsonville
The young guns continued to prevail on Friday night at Watsonville Speedway, as 14-year-old Landon Henry bolted to his initial Winged Sprint Car victory.
- ANTHONY BRUNO WINS FOURTH CAREER WMR FEATURE WITH WATSONVILLE WIN
San Jose's Anthony Bruno fended off 2025 Western Midget Racing champion Logan Mitchell of Santa Cruz in a home track battle on Friday, prevailing for the feature win at Watsonville Speedway.
- Justin Sanders strikes for 5th NARC win of the season on Friday at Watsonville Speedway
Watsonville, CA…The man known as the "Bullring Bullet" around these parts, Justin Sanders, made the move by Shane Golobic on lap 17 and walked away from the pack to record his fifth NARC King of the West 410 Sprint Car triumph of the season. Dating back to last year Sanders, the 2024 NARC champion and current point leader, has claimed five of the last six series events held at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds quarter mile. Sharing victory lane on Grad Night during Friday's program were Alexander Mead with the R&J Landscaping Hobby Stocks and Anthony Bruno with Western Midget Racing. In the 30-lap NARC KWS Hoosier Tires feature it was two-time Watsonville Speedway track champion Shane Golobic motoring to the lead. The 34-year-old veteran cut his teeth in Winged Sprint Car racing at the track and had an exceptional night going. Early on it was San Jose's Tim Kaeding keeping pace with the leader, while Justin Sanders stalked the top two in lapped traffic. The action was fast and furious through the slower cars until a caution period waved on lap 11. After the restart Sanders was clearly the fastest car on the track, as he found the high side to his liking aboard the Mittry Construction No. 2x mount. He would grab second on lap 13 and then come after the leader. Sanders applied pressure to Golobic, before claiming the lead with 17 circuits completed. Following that he had his way with things up front and went on to cross under the Ed Entz checkered flag. Golobic finished in the runner up spot followed by Dominic Gorden, Tim Kaeding and Landon Brooks in the top five. The remainder of the top 10 was filled out by Jett Barnes, Joey Ancona, Kaleb Montgomery, Bud Kaeding and Sean Becker. Golobic captured the HD Titanium Dash while Sanders brought home Kaeding Performance heat one, with Shane Golobic claiming BMRS heat two and Dominic Gorden winning the Hills Meat Company final heat. Tim Kaeding got down to track record territory in ARP Qualifying but just missed out on it with a blistering lap of 10.627 around the bullring to set fast time. For the first time ever the R&J Landscaping Hobby Stocks raced in the opposite direction on Friday night. Multiple different leaders and some intense racing was seen during the feature. It turned out to be a lengthy contest however, as several drives had issues of some sort. Alexander Mead was one of the competitors who had an issue early but came back and marched through the field to pick up the win. Mead took over the lead with just three laps left in the shortened main event. Dennis Keldsen, Jamie Magana, Joe Gallaher and Norm Ayers rounded out the top five. The Western Midget Racing finale saw a good close race up front between Anthony Bruno and defending champion Logan Mitchell. Mitchell hounded the leader all race long and pulled even on the final lap, but Bruno held tough and captured victory. Mitchell, Nicholas Leonard Jr, Nathan Moore and Issac Johnson followed him across the line. Watsonville Speedway returns to action this coming Friday June 5th for the Joe Brechel Memorial Race. NARC 410 is back at it next Saturday June 6th with the David Tarter Memorial at Chico's Silver Dollar Speedway. - Barnes, Mead, Welborn and Santana surge to entertaining Watsonville wins on First Responders Night
Watsonville, CA…Visalia's Jett Barnes has been exceptional during his Watsonville Speedway starts this year and raced to his second triumph in four appearances last night with the Gold Star GMC 360 Sprint Cars. Fellow winners on First Responders Night included Lilly Mead with the R&J Landscaping Hobby Stocks, Jonathan Welborn with the Heat Wave Visual Four Bangers and Mike Santana with Police N Pursuit. Clovis driver Dominic Gorden took command at the waving of the green flag in the 25-lap Gold Star GMC 360 Sprint Car feature. Young Cole Croft kept him honest over the early stages, not letting the former Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial winner get too far ahead. Jett Barnes, who had earned the Keith Day Company Fast Time Award earlier, settled into fourth after a handful laps, but then started to find his groove. The 14-year-old began to run the bottom of turn two and got immense runs as he carved his way forward. Barnes sliced into third on lap nine and then second just a few circuits later. He then erased a two second lead that Gorden possessed and pounced for the top spot on lap 18. A green-white-checkered restart was seen but nothing could slow Barnes who drove off to claim the Ed Entz checkered flag. In his four starts at Watsonville Speedway this year Barnes has set fast time at each event and has tallied two wins, along with a pair of third place efforts. He is expected to make his 410 Sprint Car debut at the track on May 29th with the NARC King of the West Series. Gorden crossed the stripe in second while Croft made the move by Dominic Scelzi to bring home third on the final restart. Croft even challenged Gorden for second on the final lap, as he recorded his first career Sprint Car podium. Scelzi and Caleb Debem completed the top five. The R&J Landscaping Hobby Stocks put on an exciting 20-lap finale that saw veteran Sam Kennedy lead early. Track conditions were spot on for the Hustling Hobby Stocks with side-by-side racing prevalent throughout the field. Nick Silva then fought his way to the top spot on lap six as the front runners raced closely together. A caution on lap 11 set up a double file restart with Silva and Lilly Mead on the front row. Racing back to the green things got a little too close for comfort and resulted in Silva suffering a flat tire, forcing him to pit. With Mead now up front she had to contend with the relentless pressure from Joe Gallaher. The duo was fun to watch over the closing laps. Mead fended off Gallaher to earn her second victory of the season. They were followed by Dakota Keldsen, Kennedy and Adriane Frost. The Heat Wave Visual Four Bangers also provided fans with some buzz as three different drivers held command at various points. Rookie Preston Hohmann led the first couple of circuits until Justin Hertel got by to grab the point. All eyes then focused on Jonathan Welborn, who methodically weaved his way by cars and charged into the lead on lap nine. Hertel didn't let him get away though and stayed glued to his bumper. Welborn hit his marks however, and scored the win over Hertel, Tony Gullo, David Dupuis and Shelbie Freeman. The Police N Pursuit feature then saw Welborn known as "Jonathan Outlaw" lead seven laps until the officers were able to catch him. After that it was all Mike Santana who held off a very fast AJ Waltrip to claim the win. Watsonville Speedway goes dark during Memorial Day weekend, before resuming action with Class of 2026 - Senior Night on Friday May 29th. On hand will be the NARC King of the West 410 Sprint Cars, the R&J Landscaping Hobby Stocks and Western Midget Racing.
