- BRADEN CHIARAMONTE WAS SPRINT CAR CHALLENGE TOUR HARD CHARGER AT PLACERVILLE
(El Cajon, CA, June 5, 2024) One of the sure things in West Coast Sprint Car racing is the fact that teenage sensation Braden Chiaramonte is not afraid to pass cars. Last Friday, at the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial opening night at the Placerville Speedway, the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour rookie demonstrated that by passing more cars in the main event than any other driver. Stuck back in 21st to start the 35-lap main, he raced under the checkered flag in 13th place. This Saturday night, he makes his first appearance at the Petaluma Speedway when the SCCT visits town. A stout 40-car field converged on the famous high-banked red clay quarter-mile oval for round five of the 2024 SCCT season. For El Cajon, California-based Chiaramonte, the series rookie point leader, who was wheeling the Tiner/Hirst Slade Precision Shocks/Larry Davis Farms/System 1 Pro Ignition #94TH, it was his second showing at the track this year. The first appearance came three weeks earlier when he placed second in the regular Placerville 360 main event. That finish came just 24 hours after a third-place finish at another iconic California track, the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Chiaramonte qualified with 19 other cars in group A. His best lap, an 11.142, was 13th in the group and 25th fastest of the 40 winged cars on hand. That placed him on the inside of the fourth row of the first 10-lap heat race on the freshly watered track. He needed to place in the top five to earn a ticket directly to the A main. However, passing was at a premium at that time of the night. Only four cars, including Chiaramonte, advanced their position in the race, and all of them only moved up one spot. His sixth place finish left him one position shy of going straight into the main. Starting third in the B main, Chiaramonte initially was running fourth. Staying dedicated to the high side of the 59-year-old track, he started flying on lap four and began picking off cars. Eventually getting up to second, he was dramatically closing on the leader who had a full straightaway advantage at one point. Coming off turn four with two laps to go, a lapped car spun to a stop directly in front of the young driver. With cat-like reflexes, Chiaramonte hit the brakes and steered to the inside. His car gained traction, the front wheels shot into the air, and he wheelied past the stopped car in spectacular fashion. With three laps to go, Chiaramonte restarted the B main in second. Going into turn three, he used a textbook slide job to take the lead and impressively led the final three laps, earning himself a ticket into the A main. To say Chiaramonte was starting deep in the main event field was an understatement. He was on the inside of the next to last row for the 35-lapper! Early on, he momentarily slipped back to 23rd. The young driver skillfully avoided the chaos that saw yellow and red flags in the main and methodically moved his way forward. By races end, his impressive performance saw him go all the way forward to 13th. While he officially passed eight cars as the PitStopUSA.com Hard Charger, being back to 23rd at one point means he raced past 10 other cars. The finish kept Chiaramonte in the sixth position in the SCCT championship chase heading into this week's race at the Petaluma. Keeping up with the team's crazy schedule, Chiaramonte hopped on a flight home to El Cajon early Saturday morning. As soon as he got home, the team jumped into the rig with the family-owned #73B and drove 195 miles to the Ultimate Sprint Car Race presented by Inland Rigging at the Ventura Raceway. Unfortunately, the long trek to Ventura did not have a happy ending. After starting and finishing third in his heat, Chiaramonte started 10th in the main event. However, entering the first corner on lap two, something broke, and he went hard into the crash wall. While the young driver was uninjured, the car sustained substantial damage, and he was out for the night. Fans who wish to see Chiaramonte in action at Petaluma on Saturday can find the track on the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds at 100 Fairgrounds Drive in Petaluma. Spectator gates open at 4:00 PM. Practice will be at 5:00, and the first race will take the green flag at 7:00. Adult tickets are $25. For seniors 65 and over and the military, it is $22.00. Juniors 12-15 and kids 6-11 are $10.00. Children 5 and under are free. Chiaramonte flew to North Carolina two weeks ago to drive for his cousin, 2020 NASCAR Truck Champion and current Xfinity Series driver Sheldon Creed, at the famous Millbridge Speedway. Shoeing Creed's 600 Micro for only his second time at the track, he qualified second quickest in his group on Monday. He went from fourth to second in his heat before getting clobbered and having the injection knocked off the car. Despite that, he still finished fourth. In the night's main, he started and finished 16th. Twenty-four hours later, at Millbridge, Chiaramonte qualified 4th in Group B. He started on the outside of the front row for his heat race and picked up the checkered flag for the victory. In that night's main event, he started third. At one point in the race, he drove up to the second-place. In the end, he ended up fifth. His performances on the two nights drew a lot of attention from other drivers, fans in attendance and thousands of others worldwide watching live on DirtVision. Chiaramonte would like to thank all his sponsors who have made his racing efforts possible. RTL Traffic Control, AM Ortega, OCC Motorsports, Hyper Racing, Chop Design, Adams Motors, Hacienda Casa Blanca Fine Mexican Dining, Evil Plus Injection, King Racing Products, Tiner/Hirst, and Keizer Wheels. - BRADEN CHIARAMONTE COMES FROM THE BACK TO FINISH 12TH IN WILD MARYSVILLE MAIN
(El Cajon, CA, May 29) After coming from the back two times, Braden Chiaramonte raced under the checkered flag in 12th place in the Mel and Marlyn Hall Memorial last Saturday at the Marysville Raceway. The teen's persistence paid dividends as he now ranks sixth in points heading into round four of the Elk Grove Sprint Car Challenge Tour's 2024 season at the Placerville Speedway this Friday. A stout field of 39 winged 360 sprint cars showed up at the popular quarter-mile track that is located 120 miles north of San Francisco and 120 miles west of Reno. The field was split into two groups by a pill draw for qualifying and the heat races. Chiaramonte drew into the second group of 19 cars and toured the track in 12.904. That was seventh fastest in his group and 13th best of the 39 on hand. In his 10-lap heat, the El Cajon, California racer started and finished in third. That left him one spot shy of the dash, but it guaranteed him a direct ticket into the 35-lap main event. Chiaramonte started in the 12th position for the feature that turned into a nearly one-hour marathon. The first attempt to start the race got as far as turn one before a car slid to a stop. Fortunately, the entire field missed the expensive obstacle. The second try to get the feature started only got about 35 feet farther than the first effort. This time a massive tangle saw numerous cars get involved. One of them was Chiaramonte. Chiaramonte was towed back to the pits, where the Tiner/Hirst crew quickly poured over the car. They replaced two broken shocks, bird cages, radius rods, torsion arms, and a torsion bar. They got the job done quickly, but the green flag flew before they could get pushed back onto the track. However, the race only got one lap in before the action was slowed due to another faux paw on the track. Amazingly, the #94TH was pushed back onto the racing surface for the restart and was only one lap down. Chiaramonte restarted at the back. As was the case for much of this race, only one more lap was completed. On lap 4, three cars tangled in front of Chiaramonte. With nowhere to go, he slid into the mess. Fortunately, his contact was minimal, and he was able to restart once again. The Night of Destruction like conditions continued on through the remainder of the race, but Chiaramonte was able to steer clear of the chaos. By lap 11, he was up to 16th. Four laps later, he was another spot higher in the race standings. He was still 15th, ten laps later, when officials feared cars were going to run out of fuel due to all the yellow flag laps. So, they threw a red flag, allowing all teams to add fuel to make it to the end of the race. Once the green flag flew again, Chiaramonte moved up to 14th on lap 27. He stayed there until the final circuit when he steered the Tiner/Hirst Slade Precision Shocks/Larry Davis Farms/System 1 Pro Ignition #94TH past one more car to finish 13th. Make that a hard-fought for, well earned 13th for the talented driver and the top-notch crew. This Friday night's race at the Placerville Speedway will be the lid lifter for the Dave Bradway Memorial. Chiaramonte has been to Placerville one time this year. That was on May 11th when he finished second in the Placerville 360 main event. Friday's show will be Adrian Blanco Jewelry Night. The main winner will collect prize money, valuable SCCT points, and a custom watch certificate from Adrian Blanco Jewelers. The spectator gate at the famous banked red clay oval will open at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Adult tickets are $25.00. Seniors 62+, military, and Juniors 12-17 will get in for $22.00. Tickets for kids six to twelve are only $10, and children 5 and under are free. Tickets are available online at https://www.eventsprout.com/event/psr-053124 and at the ticket window on Friday. The Placerville Speedway is located on the beautiful El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville, California. Take Hwy US-50 to Forni Road/Placerville Drive exit. Then go north on Placerville Drive to the Fairgrounds. The physical address is 100 Placerville Dr., Placerville, CA 95667. - BRADEN CHIARAMONTE GETS THIRD PODIUM FINISH IN EIGHT DAYS
(El Cajon, CA, May 23) Rising teenage star Braden Chiaramonte scored a podium finish in the Tiner/Hirst-owned 94TH sprint car for the third time in eight days. His latest effort came when he placed second last Saturday night at the Marysville Raceway. The finish went along with his third-place result at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico on May 10th and a second-place finish at Placerville on the 11th. Chiaramonte will return to Marysville this Saturday with the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour in the Mel and Marlyn Hall Memorial. The most amazing aspect of Chiaramonte's accomplishment from last week is that he had never seen the Marysville oval before. Yet, he performed flawlessly all night, from hot laps through the main event. The second-place finish sounds amazing, but it could have been more. The friendly young driver actually took the lead away on lap 20 of the main event. However, a yellow flag seconds after he took the lead reverted the lineup to the previous completed lap. Fans began to sit up and take notice of Chiaramonte in qualifying. Even though he was pitted against 24 track regulars, he still qualified third fastest with a sizzling lap of 12.637 in the Slade Precision Shocks/Larry Davis Farms/System 1 Pro Ignition sponsored car. He backed that impressive performance up with a very exciting win in the third eight-lap heat race. After a slider fest with another car at the outset, the new kid on the block led all eight laps and raced across the line a half straightaway ahead of his closest pursuer. In addition to winning the heat, he also posted the fastest lap in the race at 13.325. The newcomer to the track gave the regulars more to worry about when he pulled a two in the redraw for the 25-lap finale. When the A main started, Chiaramonte was second to turn one on the start. The determined teen challenged the cushion lap after lap. When lapped traffic came into play on the 11th circuit, he tried to pass the leader on the inside coming off turn four. However, the surface was definitely "Cowboy Up" on the bottom, making it hard to pass. Undeterred, Chiaramonte was relentless in his pursuit of the leader. Building up momentum on the wide line, he chased down his foe and inched ahead when that yellow waved as the pack roared into turn one on lap 20. That meant the field was reset to the last completed lap. Thus, Chiaramonte moved back to second. Once the race restarted, the El Cajon, California teen kept the heat on until the checkered flag. In the end, he was forced to settle for second. The impressive second-place finish endeared the newcomer to the crowd. He was spectacular on the outside and may have well won the race if not for the late-race yellow. Lap eight was Chiaramonte's best circuit around the track in the main at 13.325. It was the second-fastest lap in the race, and identical to his best time in his heat race. Going into this week's SCCT show at Marysville, Chiaramonte is 13th in series points and is only 20 points out of fifth. The race will mark the beginning of four straight weeks of SCCT racing for the young driver and the remainder of the series regulars. On Friday, May 31st, it will be on to the Placerville Speedway, where Chiaramonte finished second two weeks ago in a non-SCCT race. A week later, on June 8th, he will be at the Petaluma Speedway before heading to Antioch Speedway on June 15th. Adult tickets at Marysville Raceway on Saturday are $24.00. Juniors 12-15, seniors 62+, and military are $20. Kids 6-11 cost $10.00, and those five and under will be free. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or via https://www.eventsprout.com/event/marysville-raceway-2024. The front gate will open at 5:00 p.m. Cars hit the track at 5:30, with hot laps, Sierra Foothills Wine Services qualifying, and racing to follow. Chiaramonte would like to thank all his sponsors who have made his racing efforts possible. - SANDERS BATTLES FOR SALUTE TO LEROY VAN CONETT NARC VICTORY AT STOCKTON
(5/19/24 - Ben Deatherage) Stockton, California ... Justin Sanders scored a hard fought victory on a rough track to claim Sunday's Salute to Leroy Van Conett NARC 410 Sprint Car Series event at the Stockton Dirt Track. Sanders, who started fifth in the 20-car grid, stole the lead from race leader Sean Becker with a brilliant lap 15 restart and battled challenging track conditions and slower traffic the rest of the way to score his second NARC victory of the season aboard Demo Mittry's Farmers Brewing KPC sprint car. The 30-lap contest began with Billy Aton's Plant Reclamation #26 XXX grabbing the point and setting the standard for the first 14-laps. Aton would put on quite a show, including several wheel stands on the front straightaway, as he pulled away from all challengers. Things tightened up as the leaders got into lapped traffic on the narrow racing surface on lap eight, and even thicker congestion formed ahead of them on the 13th circuit. Tragedy would strike on the 14th circuit when Aton lost power in the first set of corners and collected second-place runner Tanner Carrick to bring out the caution. Beacon Wealth Strategies dash winner Sean Becker inherited the lead in the Don Bjork-owned Bjork Construction #7B Maxim. However, on the ensuing restart, Sanders performed the overtake for the top spot. The event went stoppage-free after the restart allowing Sanders to get in a good rhythm, as he methodically worked his way through slower cars on the way to the checkered. It was his third career NARC win at Stockton. "I think Becker went in too hard, hit the hole, and pushed up," explained Sanders about his move to get around Becker on the restart. "I tried to get my car as far down as I could and get off the bottom of two really good, and it was just enough to get by him. I'm glad to get another NARC win and I got to thank Demo Mittry and all the sponsors and our supporters." Becker finished a very respectable second place for his first podium in the current campaign. "The crew's been through the wringer the last few days and fought through it," said Becker, the 2005 series champion, "and I'm so proud of them. I wish I could have given it (a victory) to them, but to get a podium with this stout field is pretty good." The Matt Wood Racing entry driver by Shane Golobic, in the NOS Energy Drink #17W KPC, kept up his consistent form with a third place podium finish. NARC point leader Cole Macedo's continued to grind with another top five finish in the Tarlton Motorsports team finishing fourth. Andy Forsberg rounded out the top five aboard the Pacific Highway Rentals #92 Maxim. He started tenth. 2017 NARC champion Bud Kaeding was sixth, chased by Justyn Cox. Rookie driver Dominic Gorden was the Williams Roofing Hardcharger by finish eighth after starting 16th. Dylan Bloomfield edged out Nick Parker to wrap up the second five at the checkered. Cole Macedo was the fastest qualifier in the ARP Time Trials. Caeden Steele, Becker, and Aton were victorious in the program's three heat races. - BRADEN CHIARAMONTE RECORDS HIS BEST 360 WINGED FINISH FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 24 HOURS
(El Cajon, CA, May 15) Last Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California, Braden Chiaramonte notched a third-place finish in the 25-lap main event. It was his best-ever result in a winged 360 race. Twenty-four hours later at the Placerville Speedway, he went one step better when he placed second in the winged 360, 25-lap main event. Thirty-two cars showed up for the "Mother's Day Madness" race on the famous ¼ mile, red clay Placerville Speedway. As usual, Chiaramonte was on his game from the start. In qualifying, he recorded a sizzling lap of 11.113 in the Tiner/Hirst-owned Slade Precision Shocks/Larry Davis Farms/System 1 Pro Ignition #94TH. That was good enough for the second fastest time in the 16-car group "B." Being the fastest in group "B" meant the El Cajon, California driver, would start fourth in the fourth, eight-car, eight-lap heat race. Once the green flag dropped, "Spare Change" was part of an exciting first lap. He initially slipped back to fourth. Going into turn three, the third-place car parked on the low line. That opened up a huge window for Chiaramonte to race around the outside. As he started to go past, the slowing car got clobbered by another driver attempting to slice his way through on the inside. That collision shot the car Chiaramonte was trying to pass straight up the track and nearly into him. Fortunately, Chiaramonte got the #94TH slowed down and only had minimal contact. Chiaramonte's quick reflexes prevented what could have been a disaster. With that behind him, he got right back to work. By the time the first lap ended, he was up to fourth. Down the back chute on lap two, he picked off another car and was up to third. Even though he was third, he was far behind the two first-place cars. They had established a huge advantage over the rest of the field due to the first-lap chaos. With only six laps to go on the small track, Chiaramonte did not have time to catch the lead duo and finished third. That was good enough to directly transfer him into the main event. After a B main that looked like a bad horror flick, the A main went relatively smoothly. Chiaramonte started the 25-lap finale inside the second row in third. At the end of the first circuit, he was fourth. A picture-perfect slider in turn four on the second lap saw him advance to third. He quickly pulled away from that car and set his aim on the driver in second. Chiaramonte remained third until the 18th lap when he threw another immaculate slider in turn 4 to move up to second. He pulled that move off just in time as seconds later, a car slid to a stop in turn four. That brought out a yellow flag. The good news was, the caution allowed Chiaramonte to move directly to the leader's rear for the restart. The bad news was that the leader was Andy Forsberg. The 47-year-old has nine Placerville track championships and was seeking his 70th win on the track. Once the race resumed, Chiaramonte attempted to stay close to the Placerville legend. They pulled away from the remainder of the field. Forsberg eventually moved away from his teen pursuer. With four laps remaining, the wily veteran had a 1.666 lead, but Chiaramonte started coming on. He was closing in fast on the race-long leader but ran out of laps. When the checkered flag waved, he had cut the leader's advantage down to 0.622. "This track has not had my luck for sure," Chiaramonte told the appreciative crowd after the exciting race. "I have went off one (turn one) too many times. Just to come here and have speed all night and finish top three feels really good. I started getting better in three and four and started to catch him a little bit but just ran out of laps. We were really good. Thank you to Kyle, Steven, Tom, and everyone for helping me, working on this car, and getting me where I am. Kyle is a really good coach and Steven is really good on the wrenches. So, I just have to do my job." For the second night in a row, Chiaramonte received praise from the winner after the race ended. "You can barely beat the Tiner/Hirst cars," Forsberg announced to the fans at the end of the night. "This kid has raced like 10 times (winged 360s) and I have driven for 100 years and I can barely beat him. These kart kids and micro kids jump into sprint cars and they are so fast right away." For the next two weeks, Chiaramonte will be visiting a track that will be new to him. It is the Marysville Speedway which is located in Northeast California. This week he will be contesting a 360 winged race to get in some laps for next week's Sprint Car Challenge Tour show. Advance tickets are available at https://www.eventsprout.com/event/marysville-raceway-2024. Adult tickets are $17.00. For seniors 62+, military (with id) and juniors (12-15) it is $15.00. For kids 6-11 it is $5.00 and children 5 and under are free. Family tickets for two adults, 2 Juniors or three kids are $50.00.The track is located at 1468 Simpson Lane in Marysville, CA. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00. Chiaramonte will finish the month of May on Friday the 31st when the Sprint Car Challenge Tour visits Placerville. Chiaramonte would like to thank all his sponsors who have made his racing efforts possible. - BRADEN CHIARAMONTE RECORDS HIS BEST 360 WINGED RESULT AT SILVER DOLLAR SPEEDWAY
(El Cajon, CA, May 13) Teenage racing star Braden Chiaramonte scored his best finish in a 360-winged sprint car when he raced past the checkered flag third in the main event last Friday at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California. The impressive young driver led 21 of the 25 laps in the crowd-pleasing race. Chiaramonte was only making his fifth appearance, and the first since last August, at the famous track that is 600 miles north of his El Cajon, California home. However, driving the Tiner/Hirst-owned Slade Precision Shocks/Larry Davis Farms/System 1 Pro Ignition #94TH, he looked like a veteran who has spent decades on the ¼ mile oval. The field was split into two groups of 22 cars each for qualifying. Chiaramonte found himself in the first group and he stopped the clocks at 11.954. That was fourth best in his group and seventh best of the 44 cars on hand. The time landed the talented young driver the pole position for the second eight-lap heat race. When the green opened the preliminary, he flew into the lead, never looked back, and scored a convincing win. Chiaramonte's prowess in qualifying and his heat garnered the third starting spot for the A main. The confident young driver did not stay third for long. He flew by the second-place car near the end of the first circuit and then went to the top of the track to stalk the leader. Like his tenure in third, his time in second place was short-lived. In turn two on the third go around, the leader flipped and brought out a red flag. That handed the lead to Chiaramonte. When the race resumed, he flexed his muscles at the front. He immediately began to pull away from the remainder of the field. By the end of lap six, he had extended his advantage to nearly a half straightaway. Just past the halfway point, Chiaramonte was enjoying a comfortable lead. However, it got uncomfortable in turn four on lap 16. As he was about to lap the car at the back of the pack, the car spun in front of him. Fortunately, Chiaramonte in all of the cars chasing him steered around the spinner. Unfortunately, that meant when the race resumed the good-sized lead "Spare Change" had built up, went by the wayside. This time when the race restarted, the competition turned up the heat on the young driver. Nevertheless, Chiaramonte fended off their advances and maintained his lofty position at the front of the pack. He held the top spot until turn four on the next to last lap when veteran Shane Golobic slid him for the lead. Chiaramonte was still second going into turn three on the last lap when he was clobbered by another car coming up the inside. That pushed him back to third at the finish. "It is still good, but we almost had that (the win)," Chiaramonte told longtime announcer Chad Hennig after the race. "It is only, I don't know, my eighth winged sprint car race. To be up here is really good. Just a couple of mistakes cost me the win. But will learn from those and come back even better. I am looking forward and keeping my head up. Just learn from my mistakes and hopefully, we will be two spots better." "Big thank you to Steven Tiner and Kyle Hirst and everyone who helps on this car," Chiaramonte continued. "A.M. Ortega, my mom and dad, my grandpa and everyone else. Without them, this would not be possible." After the race, gracious winner Golobic praised Chiaramonte. "That 94TH has been fast," hats off to those guys Golobic said. "Those guys are ripping. It says something for a young kid like Braden Chiaramonte. He is a young racer who does not have a lot of laps on this track. To be able to hop in and run that curb on that big rough top like that is really a good job." Details of his second night of racing last weekend (at the Placerville Speedway) will be coming in the next day. For the next two weeks, Chiaramonte will be visiting a track that will be new to him. It is the Marysville Speedway which is located in Northeast California. This week he will be contesting a 360 winged race to get in some laps for next week's Sprint Car Challenge Tour race. - TULARE & STOCKTON DOUBLEHEADER WEEKEND ON TAP FOR NARC SPRINT CARS
(5/13/24 - Ben Deatherage) Sacramento, CA ... The wait for an entire weekend of NARC 410 Sprint Car Series racing is almost over, as the 900+ horsepower behemoths of the tour are in action not once but twice, this Saturday and Sunday! First, Thunderbowl Raceway will be the first stop on Saturday, May 18th, for KRC Safety Night. But wait, there is more! The Stockton Dirt Track will visit the reconfigured ¼-mile track for a Sunday Twilight Show spectacular for the rescheduled Salute to LeRoy Van Conett. Among them will be Easton, CA driver Caeden Steele, the current leader in the race for the NARC Rookie of the Year award. He sits ninth in the standings. "I'm excited to get back to 410 racing, especially Tulare," said Steele. "I have a lot of laps there, and that's one of my favorite tracks because it really fits my driving style. The season has been pretty great so far. We've been lucky enough to avoid some of the wrecks, so we'll see if we can continue that." The journey to the famed 1/3-mile clay oval in Tulare marks the fourth event of the 65th Anniversary season for the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series, followed by the Stockton Dirt Track show. The companion divisions for the Tulare are the Kings of Thunder 360 Sprints and West Coast Sport Compacts, while the Bay Cities Racing Association Midgets will be on the card on Sunday for Stockton. Sunday's race will honor the living legend LeRoy Van Conett, one of the all-time great drivers to come out of California. The "Dragon from Galt" scored eight NARC titles (1969, 1970, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1981, and 1984) and won the track title at Calistoga Speedway on seven occasions. He was the 1976 Gold Cup Race of Champions winner at the defunct West Capital Raceway. He was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 1999. The Van Conett race was established in 2016, and Shane Golobic and D.J. Netto are tied for the most wins at this event, with two apiece. Championship Chase With three completed rounds in the 2024 schedule, the march for the King of the West championship is still in the early stages. Cole Macedo enters the weekend as the series point leader. He is a tough customer to beat on the track and has yet to finish outside the top five this season. The Lemoore racer, piloting the Tarlton Motorsports #21 entry, already has won two of three events in 2024 and is coming off of a fifth-place result at Antioch. Aromas driver Justin Sanders, the winner of last Saturday's show at Antioch, is only 11-points behind Macedo. Who to Watch Many Central Valley-based competitors will attend, several of which are competing for the Rookie Of The Year honors. Steele currently leads the chase as the BCCR Racing #121 entry has been incredible despite a limited number of 410 Sprint Car starts to his name. Gauge Garcia, from Lemoore, is looking to bounce back from a hard flip last weekend. The Keller Motorsports #2K team is also looking to try and build on their tenth-place finish in their most recent Stockton NARC outing. Dominic Gorden is looking to keep early-season gremlins behind him. The Clovis teenager had a season-best result last Saturday with his 12th-place effort. Mariah Ede made her NARC debut last weekend. She is one of the newest members of the massive pool of 410 talent from California and has an extremely bright future. The Fresno racer will be running both tracks for the first time in a 410 between the frame rails. Another local driver also making the journey is the aforementioned Netto, from Hanford, who is always a threat to win against the competition when he rolls into the pit area. The 2019 NARC champion has twice won with the series at Stockton, which happens to be the Van Conett Tribute and grabbed a victory at Tulare in 2015. Justin Sanders got a big win last weekend for the Mittry Motorsports #2X team at the Contra Costa County Clash. The Aromas racer didn't win; he dominated, leading all the laps of the feature, setting a quick time, and winning the dash. He will undoubtedly look to continue that positive momentum. Sanders was third in his last Tulare outing with NARC and has two Stockton wins. The previously referenced Golobic will looking to score his 16th career NARC victory. The Matt Wood Racing #17W entry has finished second in three shows so far. The Fremont racer will look to win his second career Tulare win with the series for the first time since 2018. His only two NARC wins at Stockton were during the Van Conett race. Other NARC 410 Series regulars in action will include 2017 champion Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Justyn Cox from Roseville, Oakley pilot Dylan Bloomfield, Billy Aton from Benicia, Penngrove's Chase Johnson, Chico pilots Nick Parker and Michael Ing, and Jarrett Soares of Gilroy. Other notable names expected will be two-time NARC champ Dominic Scelzi from Fresno, Lincoln's Tanner Carrick, and Ryan Bernal of Roseville. - AFTER A WEEK OFF, BRADEN CHIARAMONTE HEADS TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA FOR TWO RACES THIS WEEK
(El Cajon, CA, May 8) After spending last weekend watching his older sibling Bronsen win the Weedle Industries Perfect 10 Challenge Desert Race in Johnson City, California, Braden Chiaramonte will strap into the Tiner/Hirst #94TH sprint car for two races this weekend. The rising open-wheel star will be at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico on Friday. Twenty-four hours later and 130 miles to the south, he will be at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday. On Saturday's trip, Chiarmonte will appear on the two famous Nor Cal ovals for the first time in 2024. In the past, he has made four appearances at Silver Dollar. All four were in a winged 360 and his best result came at the 2022 Fall Nationals when he placed 10th in the A main event. Likewise, he has made four appearances at Placerville. Three of those came in 2023. Two of the four were in the same Placerville 360 Winged Sprints that he will be competing with on Saturday. He also has an appearance there with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour and one came with the USAC National Midgets at the end of 2023. His best finish on the red clay came last August 5th when he placed 12th in the track 360s. Between the winged 360, non-wing 410 and his outlaw micro, Chiaramonte has been at nine races this season. He has started nine he has started eight of the main events. He has two wins, three top-five finishes, and five top-10s. The victories came at a combined 360/410 sprint car show at Imperial Valley Raceway on March 9th and an Outlaw Micro race at Arizona's Adobe Mountain Speedway on March 30th. The only main he did not start came on March 16th at the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Series main at Perris Auto Speedway when a violent heat race crash ended his night early. This weekend's races will be Chiaramonte's third and fourth starts for Tiner/Hirst in 2024. His first appearance of the year in the Slade Precision Shocks/Larry Davis Farms/System 1 Pro Ignition #94TH came at the Stockton Dirt Track on April 6th. Running 10th in the main early on, two cars got together directly in front of the young racing star. Chiaramonte slid sideways to avoid them and ended up getting his right-side Nerf Bar bent into his right rear tire. A quick stop in the pit area saw the crew slap on a new right rear and send him back to the battlefield. He started at the rear and drove forward to a 14th-place when the race ended. His other appearance for Tiner/Hirst came three weeks ago at Merced. After an impressive heat race win and second-place finish in the dash, Chiaramonte was running second in the main event when he slid off the top of turn two. Like at Stockton, that forced him to restart at the back and he impressively drove up to 15th before the checkered flag ended the race. For fans who wish to see Chiaramonte race at Silver Dollar Speedway, this Friday is Fan Appreciation Night. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Tickets for those 19 and over are $15.00. Admission is free for everyone 18 and younger. Advance tickets are available at https://silverdollar.ticketspice.com/may-10th-racing-2024. The track is located at 2357 Fair Street in Chico (95928). - NARC RESCHEDULES TULARE'S CHRIS & BRIAN FARIA RACE FOR OCTOBER 12TH
(May 5, 2024 - Jim Allen) Tulare, CA ... Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway promoter Steve Faria and the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series worked out a plan to reschedule the rained-out May 4th Chris & Brian Faria Memorial. The race will be moved to Saturday, October 12th as a bolt-on addition to an existing program that features the Sprint Car Challenge Tour 360's. "I don't want to miss out on any NARC 410 dates at my track," explained Faria, "especially the Chris and Brian Faria race. By combining it with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour date in October, we will be giving the fans a great night of sprint car racing." Bad weather has played havoc on the NARC campaign this season, cancelling, postponing, or rescheduling five of the seven races to date. The next event on the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series agenda is the May 11th Contra Costa County Clash at Antioch Speedway. NARC does run at Tulare again on May 18th, followed by a rescheduled Sunday twilight show at the Stockton Dirt Track on May 19th. Updated schedules can be found at http://NARC410.com/schedule
- NARC NEWSLINE - MAY 4, 2024
NARC NEWSLINE - May 4, 2024, By Jim Allen … I'm sure we all agree when I say it's been a rough start to the 2024 season. Not just with the NARC schedule, but with just about every dirt track north of the grapevine in California. Mother Nature came bouncing out of her corner like a heavyweight champ with something to prove and pummeled motorsports into submission with wet weather. If the current trend continues, on a prorated basis, NARC would feature a whopping eight races in 2024. The worse thing about it is the weather has typically been perfect all week long, getting everybody excited, before bad weather rolls in on Friday and Saturdays. And not to leave the rest of the country out of the loop, the Outlaws and High Limit also know how to quickly find their rain gear. Because of the choppiness of the schedule, few in open wheel racing have been able to establish any real kind of "weekly" routine, making the natives restless and much of social media poison with the alleged expert opinions of the week. One driver and team that does have their act together this season is Cole Macedo and the Tarlton Motorsports team. Two-fer-two! They survived the unpredictable Battle Royale at Chico and mastered the newly remodeled Stockton Dirt Track before anybody else could. The Tarlton-team, with Drew Werner on the wrenches, is looking for their first NARC title since 2016. By the way, both NARC races had a "Road House" feel to them as only 10 of 24 starters finished at Chico, and 13 at Stockton. Silver Dollar Speedway was described as 1990's "old-school" rough, leaving aspiring drivers born in this century to struggle and figure it out. As luck would have it, Floracing capitalized on the Chico carnage for its ever-popular weekly crash highlight video … just from that one show. Man, that's an ego killer! But like clockwork, history always repeats itself. There's always a couple of events each year that look absolutely perfect on paper and then have you yelling at the steering wheel on the way home. The good news, those two are now behind us (fingers-crossed.) So with that, the NARC schedule has endured the the cancelation of the Dave Helm Memorial (3/9) and Peter Murphy Classic (4/13) in Hanford, the March Madness event at Merced (3/23), a postponement of the April 27th race at Stockton, and the postponement (yes, postponement) of today's Tulare's Chris & Brian Faria Memorial. So if you are keeping score, it's Mother Nature - 5, Cole Macedo and NARC - 2. Speaking of Stockton, everybody got their first glimpse on April 6th when the former 4/10's mile oval transitioned into a quarter-mile D-shaped bullring. As expected, the opinions were brutal despite the fact that it took a mad scramble to make the race happen in the first place. It also rained for two straight days leading up to the race and that didn't help the cause. It took a while to get the "new" Dirt Track raceable and the NARC heats didn't push off until 8:00 p.m. and the main at 11:13 p.m. (Our goal is to be done by 9:30 p.m.) Also in the pits was SCCT and they had their issues as well, including a longer than normal main event. When you added it all up, the NARC feature was called 27-laps complete at the stroke of midnight. For all of the conspiracy addicts out there, the drivers were informed by radio during the previous caution period that the scheduled 30-lapper was going to be considered complete at midnight no matter what happened. It "happened" with a multi-car crash and wasn't the way anybody wanted to end a chilly night. As Colt's Hall of Fame football coach Tony Dungy says in his book, "nothing good happens after midnight." Especially in Stockton! When all was said and done, the overall opinion of drivers and teams leaned more positive than negative and suggested improvements to make it even better. That's great news as promoter Tony Noceti is committed to the further evolution and improvement of the facility. After the show, he committed to building wider turns with more banking and a backstretch wall from turn two to four. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a ton of work and the weather didn't cooperate (try to act surprised) to allow those upgrades to be completed before our scheduled April 27th race. This postponed the event to a highly-anticipated Sunday Twilight Show on May 19th, the day after the NARC sprint cars invade Thunderbowl Raceway. (Twilight = Qualifying at 4:00 p.m.) That beats the tarnation out of another cancellation. We really need fans and teams to support this show as it could start a new trend and give race promoters another viable option. Other observers thought the Stockton postponement was the perfect opportunity for Peter Murphy to maneuver his April 13th rainout, better known as the Peter Murphy Classic, back into the schedule. However, Murphy already had a weekly show booked on that date. A few racing peeps wanted NARC to invade Kings Speedway which wasn't going to happen because the Central California locals barely have enough opportunities to race already. Not to mention, the PMC, an event filled with auctions, pageantry, and a pole shuffle, features a $50,000+ purse and needs avid fan support to support that obligation. When you figure in liability insurance, water, lights, marketing, track prep, security, garbage, officials and the like, the total expenses are closer to $70,000. And I'm being conservative. While many open wheel loyalists would attend a 7:00 a.m. Christmas morning sprint car show on short notice, the average fan which makes up 65% of any crowd would be home unwrapping gifts. In hindsight, the April 27th Kings crowd was average at best meaning a high-dollar PMC would have been a financial blood bath. It was the right call. With that being said, there is no official date for rescheduling the 10th anniversary of the PMC. Murphy has run the gauntlet to squeeze it in somewhere, but others barked back about conflicts. It appears that California promoters are battling for the same 1500 core fans. Let's hope we can figure this thing out. CALISTOGA SPEEDWAY: Some fans may have had unrealistic expectations that a race schedule would be released soon after the City of Calistoga and Napa County worked out their differences and finalized the sale of the fairgrounds. In reality that was just the starting point and best-case scenario, nobody will see a schedule until 2025. Tommy Hunt said way back in February that it would take his HMC Promotions team about six-months to promote and orchestrate the activities that surround the awesome two-day Louie Vermeil Classic weekend. Once racing is officially on the agenda, expectations will be at a Mount Everest-level as local politicians have the place under a microscope to make sure they made the right choice. That means an infield pit area packed with sprint cars, an overflowing grandstand, a Gold Cup type of feel, and race fans spending their money downtown. Otherwise, all of the pot-banging we did to get the historic half-mile reopened would have been for naught. All those who agree, say YAH! By the way, Tommy Hunt is undergoing serious health issues these days, and we wish him a speedy recovery. NARC NOTES: There are about 15 laps remaining to be sponsored for the June 1st Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial race in Placerville. Contact Karen Bradway-Tuccelli on Facebook if you are interested in sponsoring a lap in the 40-lap feature or 12-lap semi. … An entire nation gasped (on Floracing) when Ryan Robinson clipped the tractor tire coming out of turn two and flipped violently while leading at Silver Dollar Speedway at the Mini-Gold Cup NARC opener. While everybody, including wife Kylie, was attempting to comprehend what had just happened, Ryan had already managed to climb out of the Antaya Motorsports #16A and was stepping slowly to the pit area. His movements were purely instinctual as his eyes saw nothing but black after suffering his fifth racing-related concussion. Luckily, the safety crews caught up with him shortly thereafter. Ryan made an announcement a couple of days later that he is retiring from racing. You know it was a tough decision, but it was the right one. He knows that you can only scramble the eggs so many times. Never forget that this is a dangerous sport. … Willie Croft will be battling for the Skagit Speedway championship in Washington this year with "Rudeen" backing on his number 29 sprint car. He will be attempting to dethrone the defending champ, Trey Starks. … … Only six drivers have finished in the top ten in both races. Can you name them? How about … obviously Cole Macedo … Tanner Carrick, Bud Kaeding, Nick Parker, and rookies Gauge Garcia and Cadeen Steele. Carrick may be the most underrated driver in California with a sixth and third place finish in NARC competition, as well as two Ocean 360 wins to his credit. He is overdue to post his first NARC career victory. … Dominic Scelzi is back in California. He was planning to miss the first six NARC shows of the season while he was chasing races around the Midwest with the Outlaws and High Limit. As it turns out, he only missed two. He will be a "wild card" the rest of the season, attempting to steal victories as others chase the championship. … All, like in every single one of our events are on Floracing.com … David Castenada reports that work is underway at Santa Maria Speedway. After sitting dormant for a couple of years, the track needs serious love to make it race ready. Tony Pombo, who signed a lease-agreement for the place, is actively involved in the process. NARC invades Santa Maria on July 27th - right about the time temperatures hit 110 degrees in the Central Valley. … Justyn Cox cracked three ribs at the Chico opener. You know it was bad when he couldn't golf! ... … The new NARC 65th Anniversary Coloring Book is hot off the press. Thank you to Creative Finishes Plus and Andy & Candace Forsberg for sponsoring this project. Also, thanks to my wife Carol who did all of the artwork. We will pass them out to kids at upcoming events. … Which reminds me of a quick story from the last time we had a NARC coloring book in 2019. While handing them out to excited kids in Tulare, one impatient attractive woman (40ish) insisted on getting one for herself. I politely told her it's kids first, since we need to keep them engaged so their parents continue to bring them to the races. I said if there are any left, I would hook her up. A minute or two later, she impatiently works her way back in line and offers to flip up her shirt and show me the goods if I give her one. Excuse me, did I hear that right? Now I'm not going to say what actually happened at that point, but she walked away with crayons also. … THE ROAD TO THE DIRT CUP: It's hard to believe the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports are only about 40-days away. Based on phone calls, emails, and DM, there is going to be a large contingent of fans making this stellar road trip. It's going to be a parade going up Interstate 5. If you haven't locked down your tickets yet, each track's website is ready to serve them up. By the way, the five FFDM shows pay $5,000 to win and $600 to start the A. The Northwest Focus Midgets will be the support division for the first four events. They put on a great show. From the FFDM Father's Day finale at Grays Harbor Raceway, we continue North to the Jim Raper Memorial Super Dirt Cup. That group is busy putting together fan engagement activities for this showcase event. I'm spearheading the Super Dirt Cup Charity Golf Tournament on Wednesday, June 19th - the day BEFORE the three-days of racing kicks off. We are looking to accomplish two things … build on the "Club" in Northern Auto Racing Club by having an enjoyable day at the nearby Avalon Golf Links. And two, raise money for the NARC Benevolent Fund and the Rayce Rudeen Foundation. Please join us, no matter what your skill level. Off the record, this may become more of a drinking event than a birdie event. (#justsaying) Sign-ups are only $100 and that include golf, cart, box lunch, gift bag and a chance to claim a bunch of prizes and awards. Here is the only caveat: You have to sign-up and pay before June 5th. … We are also looking for hole sponsors. Call me! … Who is your pick to walk away with a $62,000 payday at this year's Super Dirt Cup? And the hot news of the moment ... We have rescheduled the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial for October 12th at Tulare, which is the weekend before the Trophy Cup. It is now part of a great show that also includes the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. It's shaping up to be a terrific October. With that, prepare to get busy because there are 13 NARC shows scheduled in the next 50 or so days. It's going to flash by in the blink of an eye so get your travel plans dialed in. Coming to you live from Auburn, CA! May the Fourth be with you. See ya!
- CRASH KNOCKS BRADEN CHIARAMONTE OUT OF USAC/CRA RACE AT PERRIS
(El Cajon, CA, May 1) Driving a brand new car, Braden Chiaramonte was working his way towards the front in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA 30-lap main event last Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway. However, a tangle that involved some lapped cars gathered him in and knocked him out of the race with nine laps to go. Sadly, what could have been a top-five finish ended up being a 20th. After a practice session at the track the week before, Chiaramonte was debuting his new DRC Chassis along with a 410 engine obtained from Arizona native Sterling Cling who now does most of his racing in the Midwest. Of the 22 cars on hand on Saturday, Chiaramonte ended up 13th fastest in qualifying with a time of 17.031. That was his second-fastest lap in 2024 at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval. It was only surpassed by his 16.995 on March 16th. Chiaramonte, in his pretty #73B, started on the outside of the front row in the first 10 lap heat race. When the checkers ended the preliminary, he ended up fourth. That Kept him in contention for one of the invert spots to start in the first three rows of the main event. Unfortunately, after the second and third heat races, he was out of the invert and was forced to start the 30-lapper in 13th. In the main, like always, Chiaramonte was moving forward. He was picking off cars and confidently made his way into the top 10. At the halfway point, the talented young driver was up to eighth and seemed headed for the top five. However, coming off turn four on the 22nd circuit, he got caught up in someone else's mess and was done for the night with a 20th place finish. Despite other racing duties that saw the El Cajon, California resident miss the two USAC/CRA races in Arizona, Chiaramonte is still 21st in the championship standings and he is third in the Rookie of the Year chase. Chiaramonte is taking this weekend off to watch his older brother Bronsen race in the "Weedle Industries Perfect 10 Challenge" desert race in Johnson City, California. Next weekend he will be back in action in his winged 360 sprint car at a pair of races on two of the crown jewel tracks in Northern California. On Friday the 10th, he will be at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Twenty-four hours later and 120 miles south, he will compete on the banked, 58-year-old Placerville Speedway. Chiaramonte would like to thank all his sponsors who have made his racing efforts possible. RTL Traffic Control, AM Ortega, OCC Motorsports, Hyper Racing, Chop Design, Adams Motors, Hacienda Casa Blanca Fine Mexican Dining, Evil Plus Injection, King Racing Products, Tyner, and Keizer Wheels. - TULARE'S CHRIS & BRIAN FARIA MEMORIAL NEXT FOR NARC 410 SPRINT CAR SERIES
(4/29/24 - Ben Deatherage) Tulare, California ...The 900+ horsepower fire-breathing cars and stars of the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series are thrilled to return to Thunderbowl Raceway on Saturday, May 4th, for the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial! The 1/3-mile clay oval action track in Tulare is renowned for its breathtaking action, lightning-quick speed, and edge-of-your-seat racing. "We're really excited to get back to Tulare," said Chico's Nick Parker, who is off to a hot start and enters the weekend fifth in the championship standings. "It's a track we've been okay at and struggled at sometimes, but I'm feeling really confident from some of our recent runs and that we continue to build off of our good finishes." The Faria Memorial marks the third round of the 65th Anniversary season for the Northern Auto Racing Club. It is the third different venue the popular series has visited in 2024. The schedule has also endured three rain-outs. The race is run in memory of two members of the storied Faria family. Chris unfortunately passed away in a farming accident in 1993, and Brian was tragically killed in an automobile crash in early 2006. This will be the first time since 2021 that NARC has been a part of the Faria Memorial. The companion division for the evening is the Kings of Thunder 360 Sprints. Championship Chase Despite still being in the early stages of the quest to become the King of the West, this Saturday kicks off a busy portion of the calendar as it will significantly indicate who will become the frontrunners for the prestigious championship title. It kicks off the meat of the schedule with 16-races in the next 11-weeks. Cole Macedo will lead the points table entering the Faria Memorial and is batting one-hundred-percent in the win column with NARC by taking care of business at both the Mini Gold Cup and the Asparagus Cup. After spending the last few weeks in the Midwest, the Lemoore racer, in the Tarlton Motorsports #21, recently posted an impressive fifth-place result at West Memphis, Arkansas' Riverside International Speedway on April 23rd with the High Limit Series and was fourth against the World of Outlaws on April 29th at Paducah International Raceway in Kentucky. Tanner Carrick, from Lincoln, is the current runner-up in the championship race and trails Macedo by a mere twelve markers. Carrick has posted two Top 10 results in two NARC feature starts and was on the podium with a third-place finish at the new Stockton Dirt Track back in April. Caeden Steele is the pacesetter in the Class of 2024 rookie race as he sits third in the standings. The Easton driver wowed the crowd at Chico when he was third at the drop of the checkered and is a star on the rise in the Golden State. 2017 champion Bud Kaeding is currently fourth in points and has yet to finish outside of the Top 10 with the series, including a season-best fifth at the Mini Gold Cup. The Campbell chauffeur has managed to score three victories at Tulare over the years when NARC has come to town, with his most recent trip to Thunderbowl victory lane on April 21st, 2018, during the Spring Nationals. Parker, originally from Tucson, Arizona, has shown moments of brilliance with NARC this year. The 2023 Rookie of the Year scored his first career NARC Top 5 at the Asparagus Cup. After finishing fifth at Stockton, the team is hungry to build on their April performance. Who to Watch Justin Sanders hopes to return to his winning ways for the Mittry Motorsports #2X team. The driver from the coastal city of Aromas was third the last time NARC was in Tulare during the Dennis Roth Classic last April. It is one of the few tracks on the schedule that Sanders has yet to win at with the tour, but that stat could easily change. 2021 and 2022 NARC champion Dominic Scelzi is excited to race with NARC for the first time in 2024. After spending the spring months on the East Coast and the Midwest, the Fresno wheelman has a trio of trips to the top of the Tulare podium, with his latest victory coming on May 13th, 2022, on the first night of the Peter Murphy Classic. Scelzi is the most recent victor of the Faria when he hit pay dirt in July of 2021. Roseville runner Justyn Cox can't wait to get back to the Thunderbowl. Last year, He captured the $18,383. payday at the Dennis Roth Classic for the Bates-Hamilton Racing #42X team, his first career NARC triumph. Several other Central Valley contenders are expected to be in the house. They include 2019 NARC champ D.J. Netto from Hanford, Lemoore's Gauge Garcia returning behind the wheel of the Keller Motorsports #2K, Dominic Gorden of Clovis, and Tipton driver Dawson Faria. Netto won this event in 2015. Other NARC 410 Series regulars in action will include Oakley pilot Dylan Bloomfield in the Vertullo #83V, Billy Aton from Benicia, Penngrove's Chase Johnson, Chico pilot Michael Ing, and Jarrett Soares of Gilroy. Also expected to be in action are Fremont's Shane Golobic, Templeton native Kaleb Montgomery, and Ashlyn Rodriguez from Wilton. - CHIARAMONTE'S SPEED IMPRESSIVE AT MERCED - DEBUTS NEW CAR AT PERRIS ON SATURDAY
(El Cajon, CA, April 24) Always busy Braden Chiaramonte made the trek to the lightning-quick Merced Speedway last Saturday night for round #2 of the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour. The teen impressed his fellow competitors and fans by winning his heat, placing second in the dash, and running second early on in the main. Back in the Tiner/Hirst Enterprises Slade Precision Shocks/Larry Davis Farms/System 1 Pro Ignition/#94TH, Chiaramonte was the sixth fastest qualifier of 18 cars in Group B. The time placed the El Cajon, California resident on the outside of the front row in his 10-lap heat race. After a spirited battle early on, Chiaramonte scored a runaway victory for his first SCCT heat race win of the year. The young driver's prowess in the heat sent him to the six-lap dash. Things kept going the way of the driver known as "Spare Change" when he pulled the #1 spot. For fans unfamiliar with Chiaramonte who may have thought his heat race victory was a fluke, they were convinced he was the real deal after the dash. Starting on the outside of the front row against a field that included several veteran stars who had a lot more experience on the track than himself, he fought tooth and nail throughout the race. Running second, he was passed by one of Nor Cal's biggest stars. Not to be deterred, Chiaramonte awed the crowd when he ducked back underneath the driver one lap later, made the pass, and pulled away to sew up the outside front row starting spot for the 30 lap main. Chiaramonte flexed his muscles early on in the finale. Coming off turn two on the opening lap, a pair of drivers aggressively dove to the inside of the teen sensation. However, running the high line where he was so fast all night long, he easily beat them to turn three. He then set his sights on the leader and began to reel him in. At the end of the fourth circuit, he was 0.472 behind the race's front runner. By the time a yellow flag slowed the action five laps later, he had shaved the leader's advantage to 0.453. As soon as the race resumed, Chiaramonte continued to rip the top and was close behind the leader. However, coming off turn two on lap 11, he slid off the top of the track bringing out a yellow flag. Chiaramonte went to the work area where the Tiner/Hirst crew quickly changed the left rear tire and sent him back onto the battleground. For the restart, Chiaramonte was at the back in 23rd. However, he was not there for long. He immediately began picking off the competition and was all the way back up to 15th when the checkered flag brought the proceedings to a conclusion. It was not the outcome the young driver wanted, but his overall performance drew wide praise on social media after the race. "Second race of the year in the #360 SCCT," Chiaramonte reported to his Facebook fans. "Went out late in qualifying and the track was really slick but still went sixth quick. Started second in the heat and finished first. Pulled the #1 for the dash and finished second. I started second in the main, was running down the leader and made a mistake which cost me a good finish. Overall it was a good night. We have tons of speed, just need to put it all together. Thanks to everyone who helps." Heading into the third round of the SCCT season at Marysville on May 25th, Chiaramonte is 13th in the championship standings. Twenty-four hours earlier and 88 miles south of Merced, Chiaramonte ran his 600cc non wing Micro in the Jet Bowl Classic at the Lemoore Jet Bowl. In his first micro race of the year, the 17-year-old out qualified the 27 car field with a lap of 11.627. He followed that up by starting fourth and finishing second in his heat race. For the 30-lap main, he started sixth and slipped back to ninth. He then charged all the way up to second and was seventh when the checkered flag flew. . The Saturday, April 27th, Chiaramonte will return to Perris Auto Speedway for the first time since his March 16th crash on the famous Riverside County oval. That crash destroyed his car so he will be driving a brand new DRC Chassis with a powerful 410 engine purchased from Midwest racer Sterling Cling.
