Sexton Gatlin Racing Hits the Road in Arizona and California This Week
Lakeside, CA — October 23, 2025 — It's a busy weekend ahead for the Lakeside, California-based Sexton Gatlin Racing team as they split up for action in two states. On Friday and Saturday, October 24th and 25th, veteran driver Brent Sexton and his 21-year-old son Grant will take on some of the nation's best in the prestigious Western World Championship at Central Arizona Speedway. At the same time, rising star Braydin Collie will represent the team Saturday night with the California Lightning Sprint Car Series at Ventura Raceway. Now eight months into a long and competitive 2025 campaign, Sexton Gatlin Racing's drivers have combined for 57 starts across 20 different racetracks in five states. The closest to home came at San Diego County's Barona Speedway, just minutes from their Lakeside shop. The farthest? Minnesota's Buffalo River Speedway, a whopping 2,000 miles from home base. For Brent, his best finish of the season came on September 20th when he grabbed a podium — third place — in the Ultimate Sprint Car Series main event at Ventura Raceway. Grant's standout run of the year, a fifth, came at Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minnesota, during the Minkota Lightning Nationals. Collie, the El Cajon teenager in his first full season, has also made his mark, earning a pair of third-place finishes — one at Bakersfield Speedway on June 7th and another at Minnesota's Buffalo River Speedway two months later. A three-time lightning sprint car series champion, Brent and his son Grant — the 2023 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year — opted for a "freelance" schedule in 2025, choosing to race where and when they want rather than chase points. This weekend marks their first-ever appearance at Central Arizona Speedway in Casa Grande, 50 miles south of Phoenix — and they couldn't have picked a tougher debut. The Western World attracts the top talent from both the USAC National and CRA Sprint Car Series, promising fierce competition from green to checkered. Meanwhile, Collie has turned heads in his rookie campaign with the California Lightning Sprint Car Series. Entering the weekend, he sits fifth in points, just 30 markers out of fourth, and second in the Rookie of the Year chase. With only two races left — Ventura this Saturday and the Bakersfield finale on November 25th — he's looking to finish his first full season on a high note. Fans wanting to catch Brent and Grant in Arizona can head to Central Arizona Speedway, where gates open at 3:00 p.m. and racing fires off at 6:00 p.m. both nights. After a 3rd Place at Ventura, Brent Sexton Heads to Mohave Valley Raceway
Lakeside, CA — October 1, 2025 — After a week of R&R at the river, Sexton Gatlin Racing is gearing up for Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway this Saturday night, October 4th, as the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series continues. The outing comes just two weeks after Brent Sexton scored a career-best full-size sprint car third-place finish in the Ultimate Sprint Car Series at Ventura Raceway. The night at Ventura began with qualifying, when 21-year-old SGR driver Grant Sexton clicked off a 12.748 lap, good for fourth in his group. With the track slowing down, only one car in the final two groups bested his mark, giving him the sixth-fastest time overall. Brent, qualifying in the final group, clocked a 13.180 lap—second in his group but only 11th overall. In preliminary action, Grant started and finished fourth in his heat, while Brent advanced from second to third in his. That set the stage for the 30-lap feature, with Grant rolling off seventh and Brent from ninth. The early laps saw little change, though Grant climbed to challenge for fifth just past halfway. Then came disaster: the two cars in front of him tangled, with one flipping and landing on Grant's machine. The damage ended his night early, leaving him with a frustrating 17th-place finish. Meanwhile, Brent narrowly avoided a first-turn incident on lap one and went to work. Restarting sixth after Grant's misfortune, he steadily picked off cars. By the white flag, he was up to third. A late yellow set up a green-white-checkered finish, and Brent dove low to briefly challenge for second. Twice he nosed ahead, but the runner-up of most of the race reclaimed the inside line on the final turn, forcing Brent to settle for a hard-fought third. The result was Brent's best full-size sprint car finish of 2025, topping his previous best of fifth at Ocean Speedway in March. This week's return to Mohave Valley brings back fond memories for the team. In what many consider Brent's finest lightning sprint victory, in October 2022, he rebounded from an off-track excursion to steal the lead on the final lap. Coming off turn four to a roaring crowd, he edged ahead at the line by a car length, with SGR teammates AJ Bender and Dalton Sexton close behind in second and third. Gates at Mohave Valley Raceway open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. Adult admission is $25, kids 6-12 are $15, and children 5 and under are free. Tickets are cash only at the gate (no ATMs onsite).
