- Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour announces 2025 schedule
Placerville, CA - December 13, 2024…Russell Motorsports Inc. has officially released the 2025 schedule of events for the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour. The California based Winged Sprint Car series is set to contest its eighth overall season, which offers another exciting slate of races up and down the West Coast. "The Sprint Car Challenge Tour looks to be in for another entertaining season," commented President Scott Russell. "We did our best to work around other schedules and avoid conflicts. Some years are better than others regarding that. With how things came together on the calendar though, we know there are a few conflicts this year between the various series and tracks. When you look at it from March to November however, fans and teams have plenty of great racing to choose from. We want to send a huge thank you to Elk Grove Ford, Hoosier Tire and all the partners that make this tour possible." The Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour will compete in a total of 16 events, which gets underway with the March 29th "Thrill on the Hill," marking the first of three appearances at Placerville Speedway. The tour returns to Placerville on Friday May 30th for the inaugural "Davy Thomas Memorial," which acts as a prelude to the following nights Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial featuring the NARC 410s. SCCT will also compete at the red clay on July 19th as part of Speedweek. Continuing to rise in popularity among fans and teams is Merced Speedway, which is back on the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour schedule. California's top Winged 360 Sprint Car teams will invade the high-banked quarter mile on Saturday April 19th. The Petaluma Speedway plays host to a pair of Sprint Car Challenge Tour events in 2025. Those dates will occur on June 14th with an event dubbed as "Wings Over Wine Country" and September 20th, as SCCT sanctions the $5,000-to-win "Adobe Cup" for the fourth consecutive season. The Sprint Car Challenge Tour will again sanction the 25th annual "Mel and Marlyn Hall Memorial" held on Memorial Day weekend. This year's event takes place on Sunday May 25th, as part of a busy holiday weekend in Nor-Cal. The always challenging and popular Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare hosts the SCCT 360s for the "Trophy Cup Tune-Up" on Saturday October 4th. The show held two weeks before the 31st Trophy Cup gives teams one final chance at track time prior to the big weekend. For the second straight season the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour will embark upon Western Sprint Tour Speedweek, which gets even bigger in 2025. The overall Speedweek champion will claim $4,000 with the runner up receiving $2,500 and third place getting $1,500. All main events are a guaranteed $3,000-to-win/ $400-to-start. All the action launches at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico on Friday July 18th with the annual "Tyler Wolf Memorial," followed by the $5,000-to-win/ $500-to-start "Gold Pan Rampage" at Placerville Speedway on Saturday July 19th. A travel day will be held on Sunday, before action resumes at the Douglas County Dirt Track in Roseburg, Oregon on Monday July 21st. Speedweek heads for the coast on Tuesday with a date at the beautiful Coos Bay Speedway on July 22nd and continues north to Cottage Grove Speedway on Wednesday July 23rd. Another travel day with a Fan Fest/ Kick-Off Party on Thursday sets up the SCCT debut at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Washington for the two-night "360 Summer Nationals" highlighted by a $26,000-to-win/ $600-to-start main event on Saturday. Speedweek all culminates with the "Hall of Fame Tribute-360 Battle Royale" on Sunday July 27th at Gray's Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington. "I really want to thank the staff at Skagit Speedway for coming on board and working with us on Western Sprint Tour Speedweek," said Russell. "They are offering a great purse for the racers at the 360 Nationals, which should make for an outstanding weekend of racing. We're excited to visit Skagit and Elma for the first time with SCCT, as well as visit all the tracks that are a part of the week." Jon Hager with Skagit Speedway also shared his sentiments. "We are excited to collaborate with Scott and Kami to bring SCCT to Skagit Speedway. The 360 Summer Nationals will certainly benefit from the addition of several cars from down south and such talented drivers. The partnership has the potential to elevate an already great scene of 360 Sprint Car racing in the Pacific Northwest for years to come. We look forward to building a long-term relationship with the SCCT series." As is the norm, the Stockton Dirt Track wraps up the SCCT campaign with the "Tribute to Gary Patterson Part II" on Saturday November 8th. The event is part of an expanded two-week run for the GP race, which includes the NARC finale now taking place one week earlier. - NARC SPRINT CARS ANNOUNCE 2025 SCHEDULE
(12/9/24 - Jim Allen) Auburn, CA ... The Northern Auto Racing Club (NARC) has released a compelling 29-race 410 sprint car schedule for the 2025 season that is loaded with special events and prize money. The traveling west coast series, which crowns a King of the West sprint car champion, will invade 16 different dirt oval tracks in California, Oregon, and Washington, beginning with a March 8th season opener at the Stockton Dirt Track. Overall, the 66th annual NARC campaign will award more than $850,000 in prize money and awards, plus a championship point fund and product awards. The centerpiece of the season takes place in June with the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports, which will invade Southern Oregon Speedway, the Douglas County Dirtrack, Cottage Grove Speedway, Willamette Speedway, and Grays Harbor Raceway on consecutive nights beginning on June 11th. The "Road to the Dirt Cup" continues the following weekend with the June 19-21st Jim Raper Super Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway. The winner of that Saturday finale will earn a stout $62,000 payday. Another energizing highlight on the calendar is the return of Calistoga Speedway and the ever-popular Louis Vermeil Classic on August 30-31st. The historic half-mile oval, located in the heart of Napa Valley's wine-country, has been dormant since 2019 due to political log jam on a sale of the facility. HMC Promotions is currently collaborating with local contractors to renovate the facility before racing action returns. The month of April features the first of five nights of NARC racing at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA, starting with the Spring Fling on Friday, April 4th, followed by a return trip to the Stockton Dirt Track for the Asparagus Cup in Stockton (April 5th). The following Saturday (April 12th) Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico will provide the stage for the $10,000 to win Mini-Gold Cup. Chico also showcases the NARC sprint cars on June 7th for the David Tarter Memorial. The Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway wraps up the month with the April 26th Chris & Brian Faria Memorial on their one-third mile track. Antioch Speedway hosts the first of two events on May 10th, which leads into an action-packed Ocean Speedway/Thunderbowl Raceway doubleheader weekend on May 16-17th. The Tulare show is the lucrative Morrie Williams Memorial Twin-20 show, an event that was relocated from Kings Speedway in Hanford. Kings Speedway is still searching for a track promoter and is not on the 2025 schedule. Placerville Speedway is on the schedule twice in 2025, beginning with the popular Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial on May 31st. The series returns to the quarter-mile bullring on September 6th between the High Limit and World of Outlaw swings into the Golden State. Four July events sidestep the summer heat in California with premium coastal events within 15-miles of the Pacific Ocean. The "cooler weather" tour kicks off with the July 12th $5200 to win David Lindt Memorial at Petaluma Speedway. Race fans will also be excited to hear that the popular Howard Kaeding Classic at Ocean Speedway will now be a two-day 410 show on July 18-19th. Among Saturday's highlights is the HK Luncheon, which raises money for the NARC Benevolent Fund, and a $6900 to win, $1000+ to start feature event. The NARC sprint cars will make their only appearance of the season at the revitalized Santa Maria Speedway on July 26th. New to the schedule will be the return of the Johnny Key Classic as a 410-sprint car event on the NARC schedule. The 65th annual event, which has been a 360 race for the past couple of decades, takes place on August 2nd at Ocean Speedway. The season winds down in the Fall with Open Wheel Octoberfest at Antioch Speedway on October 11th and the October 25th October Classic at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway. Once again, the Stockton Dirt Track will be the home of the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series season finale, featuring the 42nd annual Tribute to Gary Patterson on November 1st. The posh Brookside Country Club in Stockton will host the NARC Champions Celebration the following day. All NARC series' events are live streamed on Floracing.com. About the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series The Northern Auto Racing Club was founded in 1960 by Louie Vermeil, with a goal of promoting exciting and entertaining open wheel racing on the West Coast. The series has evolved throughout the years taking on the Golden State Challenge and King of the West brand names, but are now just rolled in under the NARC label. Many NARC champions and competitors are national household names in the motorsport's community, proving that California is a hotbed for developing premium open wheel racing talent. The series is currently operated by long time series Business Manager Jim Allen and 13-time NARC champion Brent Kaeding, with the assistance of a member-based advisory board. - NARC CHAMPIONSHIP FINALE BRINGS SPRINT CARS TO STOCKTON DIRT TRACK FOR TRIBUTE TO GP
(10/28/24 - Ben Deatherage) Stockton, California ... On Saturday, November 2nd, all roads for the NARC King of the West championship led to the 41st Annual Tribute to Gary Patterson at the Stockton Dirt Track. This highly anticipated event, marking the end of the 65th Anniversary season for the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series, is the last chance for fans to witness the awe-inspiring, fire breathing, 900+ horsepower machines that define the series. "We are always proud to host the NARC and SCCT sprint cars at the season finale," said promoter Tony Noceti. "Not only are they bringing the best open wheel racing on the west coast, but their championships will be decided at the Stockton Dirt Track." The Tribute to Gary Patterson is not just an event, it's a cornerstone tradition of the NARC 410 Sprint Series. Gary Patterson, one of the original 'true Outlaws,' left an indelible mark on the sport, winning the Gold Cup at West Capital Speedway and the Turkey Night Grand Prix at Ascot, both in 1977 and Skagit Speedway's storied Super Dirt Cup in 1973. His legacy lives on through this event, which honors his memory and contributions to sprint car racing. Since 1984, there has been a Tribute To GP, which began at Calistoga until 2007. Silver Dollar Speedway was honored to have the race from 2008 to 2012. The Stockton Dirt Track has been the home of the event since 2013 and, from 2017 to the present, has been the championship event for the NARC 410 Sprint Series. Steve Kent and Brent Kaeding have the most wins in the event, with four each. Roseville's Justyn Cox who drives for the Bates-Hamilton Racing Team is one of many teams looking to get in victory lane. "I love Stockton, it's close to home. It's kind of a home track for me, and Tony Noceti works hard, and he is doing his best to make it a great racetrack. I appreciate that we have a promoter that's willing to stick his neck out there like he does." The companion division for the night will be the Sprint Car Challenge Tour 360 sprint cars and the Legends of Kearny Bowl. Championship Chase The battle for the King of the West championship has been nothing short of intense, with Justin Sanders and Cole Macedo locked in a nail-biting fight for the top spot throughout the season. The thrill of this competition is going to keep everyone on edge as a mere three points separate the two. That is the difference between winning and second place. Both drivers have won at the newly configured 1/4-mile clay oval on the two previous trips this season. Macedo won the Asparagus Cup in April, while Sanders was victorious at the Salute to LeRoy Van Connett in May. Driving the Mittry Motorsports #2X machine, Sanders, from Aromas, CA, won the Tribute to GP in 2022. He's accumulated three wins in 11 career NARC starts at Stockton. Macedo, representing Lemoore, aboard the Tarlton Motorsports #21 entry, has yet to finish outside the top five in NARC action since the track was reshaped last winter, with his worst performance being a fifth in May. Sanders occupied the podium twice in the doubleheader last weekend, with a second at Kern County Raceway and a third at the Anthony Simone Classic in Hanford. Macedo was involved in a hard crash at Kern that forced him to bow out early and surrender the point lead only to rebound spectacularly by winning the Simone at Kings Speedway. Who To Watch 2017 NARC champion Bud Kaeding wants to reenter Stockton's legendary winner's circle. The Campbell chauffeur has posted consistent results with sixth and seventh-place efforts on the smaller variety of the track. His most recent NARC win was at Stockton in August of 2019. Dylan Bloomfield hopes to grab his first-ever NARC victory for his car owners, Dave and Debbie Vertullo. The Oakley teenager was ninth in his last series appearance at "The Van Connett" in May. Shane Golobic has won twice on the old 3/8-mile of Stockton and hopes to add a "New Stockton Dirt Track" win to his impressive resume. The Fremont pilot of the Matt Wood Racing #17W has also won the Tribute to GP twice when he was triumphant in 2014 and 2019. Justyn Cox is happy to be back doing what he loves: racing Sprint Cars. Coming back from injury last weekend. The Roseville driver is hoping to deliver a strong finish after showing a lot of speed in the previous two trips to the track this year. The driver-team combination already has hit pay dirt this season with a victory at Oregon's Cottage Grove Speedway during the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports. For Fresno's Dominic Scelzi, this will be the first time he's been to the new Stockton with NARC. The two-time NARC champ did log some laps when the World of Outlaws were in town on September 6th. Scelzi has historically excelled at the old track, winning three times and has been consistently quick the last few weeks with the tour. Tim Kaeding has been a major storyline in 2024 with NARC, as he's shown he still possesses his jungle-cat quickness. The two-time series champion, hailing from San Jose, has cracked off a couple of wins in the last few shows with the Williams Motorsports #0 team. "TK" won the Tribute to GP in eight-year increments, 2008 and 2016. Will that trend continue? Not only is a series championship on the line but so is the title of Rookie of the Year. Easton's Caeden Steele leads the charge of the trio of youngsters battling in the NARC top ten. He was eighth at the Asparagus Cup in April. Fellow Rookies, Gauge Garcia from Lemoore and Clovis' Dominic Gorden will try their best to end the season on a solid note. In the Keller Motorsports #2K car, Garica has tenth and 11th place finishes at Stockton to his credit. Gorden was eighth the last time NARC was at Stockton, and it kicked off a positive trend of strong results for the young man. D.J. Netto of Hanford is another driver who has enjoyed a lot of success on the old configuration, with wins in 2021 and 2022, but is looking to score a win on the new one. The 2019 NARC champion was 16th at the Asparagus Cup in his only appearance at the track. In April, Nick Parker had a special moment when he managed to record his first career NARC top five. Finishing fifth at the Asparagus Cup, the Arizona transplant now residing in Chico is hopeful that another successful outing is in the cards. Journeying from Benicia, Billy Aton has some unfinished business at Stockton. Leading most of the first half of the Salute to LeRoy Van Connett, his engine stalled and caused a crash when it looked like another victory was in his grasp. Can he get on top of the podium to close out 2024? You will have to be there to find out. Fan & Competitor Info There will be a NARC champions autograph session taking place in front of the grandstands between 3:00 and 5:00. The Stockton Dirt Track is located at the San Joaquin Fairgrounds at 1658 S Airport Way in Stockton, California.
