- Marks runs down Reutzel to claim Kubota High Limit Midweek win at Lucas Oil Speedway
WHEATLAND, MO. (Oct. 15, 2025) - Brent Marks made his move on lap 18 for the lead and went on to capture his fifth Kutoba High Limit Sprint feature victory of the season on Wednesday night at Lucas Oil Speedway. Marks, of Myerstown, Pa., picked up $12,000 for the victory as he beat Aaron Reutzel of Clute, Texas, by .359 seconds in the 30-lapper that wrapped the Roto-Rooter Midweek Series. It was Marks' second High Limit win in the last three events. "We've had some speed here, but had some bad luck as well," said Marks, who started fifth moved toward the front before putting himself into position to make a decisive pass. "It's just great to be standing up here." Reutzel set sail from the front as the green flag waved and grabbed the lead. He caught lapped traffic by lap six, holding an .833-second margin over Sye Lynch. The race came to a halt at that point when 22nd running Kerry Madsen flipped his car in turn two. Marks, Justin Peck and Tanner Thorson were third-through-fifth at the time with Rico Abreu sixth headed for the restart after what would be the lone stoppage in the action. Reutzel opened a one-second lead by lap 10 over Marks as Lynch slipped to third. Marks cut the deficit to a half-second by the halfway mark on lap 15 as the top two caught slower cars. That only tightened the race for the lead even more as Marks pulled to the rear of Reutzel's car on lap 17 and grabbed the lead the next time around, passing for the top spot on the outside of turn two. "I felt that was my opportunity to get by Aaron," Marks said. "His car is really good and he's a really good driver. He's not really gonna make any mistakes at all. Any time you have an opportunity like that, you have to take advantage of it and I felt like that was ours right there. "Lapped traffic was pretty thick and they were running the bottom. So was he and so was I, and I figured at some point the top has to start coming around. I decided to go ahead and try it right there. He just got bottled up enough behind a lapped car that I was able to keep that momentum and haul around him in one and two. "After that it was just about picking lapped cars off one by one, try not to make any mistakes and run a really clean race. Once I kind of got some clean air there just not really sticking to one line. Move around a little bit and let the car float to where it wanted to go and that seemed to be the best for me." Marks' lead grew to one-second by lap 22, but back came Reutzel on lap 25 to trail by just .324 seconds. Marks found his way around lapped cars and held on the rest of the way, beating Reutzel by .359 seconds at the finish, leaving the runner-up to second-guess himself. "I kept my patience a little too much," Reutzel said. "I was a little too tight early and was nervous to jump up. I was trying to use the big arc and run around the middle. I was just a little too timid to jump up there and do what Brent did. Just a little disappointed in myself, getting the car too tight and not being more aggressive. "That's two of them I've given away in the last week. I just need to clean things up and do a better job honestly." Lynch finished third with Peck fourth, Brad Sweet fifth and Abreu was sixth. That was just enough to give Abreu, of St. Helena, Calif., the Roto Rooter Midweek Championship by one point over Reutzel. Abreu also protected his lead in the season championship standings as he will take a 28-point margin over Sweet into the championship weekend, Friday and Saturday at the Texas Motor Speedway dirt track in Fort Worth. Abreu set fast qualifying time with a lap of 12.878 seconds - just off his track record of 12.829 set at the High Limit Racing Diamond Classic on June 29, 2024. Reutzel won the dash to earn the pole for the feature. High Limit coming to Hockett-McMillin in 2026: Prior to the feature, Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Casey Shuman announced that the 16th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial will join the Kubota High Limit Racing schedule next season alongside the POWRi WAR Sprints. The Hockett-McMillin is set for Sept. 17-19, 2026 for winged and non-wing sprints.
