- Ryan Timms Wins The 2023 Hockett/McMillin Memorial At Lucas Oil Speedway!
Bryan Hulbert - WHEATLAND, Mo. (September 17, 2023) Mother Nature delayed things by a day, but it was worth the wait as Ryan Timms followed up his Thursday prelim victory with a $10,000 payday and his first championship feature event win at the Jesse Hockett/ Daniel McMillin Memorial with the American Sprint Car Series presented by RacinDirt.com. "I'm really happy I was able to get this win. This is a bucket-list race to win, and I'm glad I was able to get it done this year. I want to thank the Hockett family for everything they do for this event," stated Timms, who joined Johnny Herrera as the only other driver to win a Sunday showdown at the Hockett/McMillin Memorial. Leading all by the opening lap Saturday night, which was led by Jake Bubak, Timms shot into the lead on the second revolution. Challenged once during one of the four-race stoppages, the DriveWFX.com No. 5t rolled to the finish with a 1.667-second advantage, running multiple grooves throughout the 30-lap event. "It was rubbered up earlier on today and rubbered up for that non-wing feature, so I was really expecting it to all blow off really fast and go straight to the top and just conserve your tires. The track actually stayed together fairly well. Jason Martin fought his way to a runner-up finish, with Bubak ending up third after slipping back to fifth during the mid-point of the feature event. Mounting a huge charge and at one point looking like he was going to roll by the field, Tim Estenson railed the cushion for a ten-spot gain to finish fourth. Up from ninth with a late race charge, Hank Davis completed the top five. Battling sixth to second until Lap 23, Sean McClelland slipped back to where he started, with Blake Hahn following in seventh. Jamie Ball finished eighth, with Matt Covington rolling forward nine spots for a ninth-place finish. Miles Paulus made up the top ten. The Hockett Hard Charger this year was Jeffrey Newell. The award was worth an extra $3,077. The Non-Wing Hard Charger was Jesse Vermillion. The POWRI WAR feature was topped by California's Ricky Lewis, who did so from the 11th starting spot. Overall, the 2023 Hockett/McMillin Memorial saw 147 Sprint Cars officially hit the track between both sanctioning bodies. The night started off with AR Dyno Specialty Qualifiers, with wins going to Hank Davis, Derek Hagar, Jeremy Campbell, Wayne Johnson, and Miles Paulus. Twin BMRS B-Features were won by Howard Moore and Jordon Mallett. The next event for the American Sprint Car Series presented by RacinDirt.com will be the COMP Cams Short Track Nationals at Texarkana 67 Speedway, happening October 5, 6, and 7, paying $20,000 to win, $1,000 to start. - Terry McCarl Leads It All For $5,000 Score At Clay County Fair Speedway
Bryan Hulbert - SPENCER, Iowa (September 12, 2023) Picking up $5,000 at the Battle of the Blue Ribbon presented by DeBerg Concrete Tuesday night, Terry McCarl collected his 15th career victory with the American Sprint Car Series presented by RacinDirt.com at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa. The 15th driver to top the American Sprint Car Series presented by RacinDirt.com in 2023, McCarl's last win came 126 events ago on October 31, 2019, at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track. "I had a great car right off the bat. I love the feel of these dished wings. I always give my boys crap. They think I'm old and stupid for running them, but it's just a feel I like in the car, and the track wasn't laying rubber, but it was cleaning off," said McCarl. "It feels great to win, and it's hard to win anywhere, but on the national level with these ASCS guys, they're a great group of guys, you know, and here; I've never really run that well here in Spencer. In fact, this is my first win here." Getting the lead on the opening lap from the right of the front row, the Country Builder Construction/Justice Brothers No. 24 led from start to finish at the three-eighths-mile oval. Finding traffic late in the non-stop feature event did little to slow the wily veteran, who pulled away to a 3.719-second advantage at the drop of the checkered flag. Chased by Matt Covington, the No. 95 moved to second through the opening turns of the 25-lap affair and stayed there for the duration. Steadily moving forward, Indiana's Zane DeVault worked every line he could find to move from 11th to third at the white flag. Getting the spot away from Blake Hahn, the No. 52 settled for fourth, with Brandon Anderson fifth. Moving throughout the top ten, Ayrton Gennetten finally settled into sixth. Chris Martin crossed seventh, with Howard Moore eighth. Christopher Thram and Jason Martin made up the top ten. The finishing order was based on a split finish, as the red came out after the top two had crossed the finish line. Displayed for Lance Moss, who dove out of his car on fire, he was able to walk on his own to the Ambulance for further evaluation. Special thanks to the entire safety crew for their response, as well as Blake Hahn and Jordon Mallett, who jumped out of their cars to assist a fellow driver. Tuesday's field had 31 drivers drawing in. Blake Hahn was the overall quick qualifier at 14.283-seconds. AR Dyno Specialty Heat Race wins went to Matt Covington, Skylar Prochaska, Zane DeVault, and Jack Dover. The BMRS B-Feature went to Sam Henderson. One provisional was used by Landon Britt. Up next is the $10,000 to win Hockett/McMillin Memorial on September 14, 15, and 16 at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo. - Landon Britt Lands First ASCS National Win By Inches At Arrowhead Speedway!
Bryan Hulbert - COLCORD, Okla. (September 1, 2023) Holding on through late-race restarts and a drag race to the finish on Friday night, the hard work finally paid off for Landon Britt, who captured his first career victory with the American Sprint Car Series presented by RacinDirt.com at Arrowhead Speedway by 0.021-seconds. "That last lap was killer. No tires left, I had no grip coming out of the corner, and I was headed right for that wall, but I was going to hit it to win it," chuckled Britt, who did tap the wall coming to the checkered flag. The sixth driver from Memphis, Tenn., to top an ASCS National event, Landon is the 170th different winner since 1993 and the 14th one to top an event in 2023. The tour's first visit to the newly built one-third-mile oval, the event was the 1,100th for the series. Making the win even better for Britt is doing so with his family, "It means a lot. My parents are the ones who really support this deal for me, and my Mom doesn't get to come out to a lot of these, but she was able to come to this one and see a win." Taking the green third, that is where Landon spent most of the race. Chasing Jason Martin for second, the track began cleaning off in the last half of the event. Making passing more challenging as the race progressed, Landon put his rear tires to work to complete the pass for second on Lap 26. Getting by Sean McClelland, who took over from Alex Sewell after the opening revolution, two laps later, the top five worked past the start-finish line before the caution flew to complete the lap. Securing the lead for Britt, the restart saw Sean try and time the cone but advanced past the No. 10 too soon. Putting McClelland back two spots for the infraction, Jason Martin moved back to second and was in hot pursuit. Back-to-back cautions before finally going green, the pair raced off the final turn with Landon pushing out the line and towards the wall. Hitting the low line and aiming at the top spot, the pair hammered down to the finish, with Britt holding on for the win over Jason. Sean McClelland made up one spot to finish third, with Alex Sewell fourth. Rolling up from 14th, Howard Moore completed the top five. Chris Morgan crossed sixth, followed by KSE Hard Charger, Kyler Johnson, who advanced 11 positions to seventh. Jodon Mallett, Tyler Thomas, and Brandon Anderson made up the top ten. Friday's field included 21 drivers, with Sean McClelland establishing the ASCS Track Record at 12.500-seconds during The Driver's Project Qualifying. AR Dyno Specialty Heat Race wins went to Jeffrey Newell, Jason Martin, and Landon Britt. The next event for the American Sprint is Saturday, September 2, at Longdale Speedway. The $5,000 to win, $500 to start affair opens 5:00 P.M., followed by Hot Laps at 7:15 P.M., and Racing at 8:00 P.M. (CDT). Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, and free for kids 12 and under. Pits are $35. Longdale Speedway is located just south of Longdale, Okla., on OK-58. Information on the track can be found at https://www.facebook.com/longdalespeedway. - Victory For Jason Martin At The Salina Highbanks Speedway!
Bryan Hulbert - PRYOR, Okla. (August 26, 2023) Five different leaders over 25 laps at the Salina Highbanks Speedway Saturday night, and it was Jason Martin who led the one that counts with the American Sprint Car Series presented by RacinDirt.com at the Oklahoma oval. A bit of a bounce back point-wise for Martin following a ninth-place finish Friday to Matt Covington's win; the two are now separated by 49-points. "It's a long schedule. Right now, it's hot, and everyone's intensity is pretty high, but you just have to keep going as hard as you can every night. Last night, we didn't have the best of nights. Just didn't have some things go our way, but I woke up this morning to a new day." Taking the green from fourth, Martin chased until Lap 19. Jeremy Campbell went to the point on the opening lap, with the second revolution going the way of Jordon Mallett. Holding through Lap 4, Chance Morton was able to charge to the point on Lap 5. Using a restart to his advantage, Blake Hahn shot fourth to second in an instant, and began his pursuit of the No. 7m. Taking over on Lap 14, Hahn looked to be on his way to victory, but a rare mistake saw the No. 52 slide through the cushion in the third and fourth turns, resulting in Blake sliding off the backside of the fourth turn and into the grass. Keeping the car upright and rolling, Blake was able to continue. Having worked to second a lap earlier, Jason Martin took over the point. Caution with two laps to run, Martin was able to keep pace for his eighth victory of the season with the National Tour, and 11th overall this year between ASCS and Nebraska 360s. Chance Morton crossed second but, unfortunately, bypassed the scales and was disqualified. That moved Jordon Mallett to second, and Wayne Johnson to third. Matt Covington picked up three spots to fourth, with Jeremy Campbell ending up fifth. Landon Britt, Kyler Johnson, Chistopher Townsend, Jeffrey Newell, and Blake Hahn completed the top ten. The field Saturday consisted of 22 drivers with Blake Hahn topping The Driver's Project Qualifying at 13.353-seconds. The first time the tour has qualified at the Salina Highbanks, Hahn's time is the 360cid track record. AR Dyno Specialty Heat Race wins went to Jeremy Campbell, Wayne Johnson, and Jason Martin. Fighting a fueling issue that relegated him to last in the A-Feature lineup, Howard Moore picked up nine spots to earn the KSE Hard Charger. The American Sprint Car Series presented by RacinDirt.com is back in Oklahoma for Labor Day Weekend, the series will debut at Arrowhead Speedway on Colcord, Okla. on Friday, September 1 for $4,000 to win, then return to Longdale Speedway on Saturday, September 2 for $5,000 to win.
