Silver Dollar Speedway Dirt Track News
- Chance Grasty strikes late at Petaluma Speedway for first SCCT win
Petaluma, CA…Chance Grasty took advantage of lapped traffic late in the going to slip past Andy Forsberg and record his initial victory with the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday. His triumph at Petaluma Speedway came aboard the familiar Friends & Family Racing/ Bushey Financial Services X1 mount. It marked Grasty's second career Sprint Car win, after claiming victory in Stockton earlier this season and allowed him to take over the SCCT point lead. "That one got pretty exciting once we could get some green flag laps put together," commented the 17-year-old. "I was fortunately able to get by Andy Forsberg and the lapped car with about five laps to go and just focused on hitting my marks after that. I want to thank everyone with the F&F X1 team for their support and all you fans for filling this place tonight." Reigning Elk Grove Ford SCCT champion Andy Forsberg claimed the High Sierra Industries Dash to earn the pole for the 35-lap feature. The Auburn veteran climbed out front at the waving of the green flag and held command for much of the race. Numerous cautions and slowdowns were seen throughout the first part, which created a fuel stop on lap 18 and kept racers out of lapped traffic for much of it. The final half of the race then clicked off problem free though and allowed the leaders to bunch up. Forsberg began to feel pressure from Grasty, along with Sacramento's Austin Wood who closed in on the top two late in the going. Racing through turns one and two on lap 29, Forsberg caught a lapped car at just the wrong moment, while Grasty made a beautiful move down low to get by for the top spot. As the white flag waved Forsberg closed back in, but Grasty hung strong and crossed under the checkered for his first ever Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour win. The Suisun City driver also began the evening by claiming the Sierra Foothills Wine Services Fast Time Award with a lap of 12.929, topping the 24-car field. Forsberg's strong run netted him a runner up finish, marking his third result of second or better in SCCT action. All four of his Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour starts have ended on the podium, as the 28-time California champ continues his fantastic campaign. Wood rounded out the podium to record yet another consistent finish this season and by doing so, moved to second in the series standings. Cotati's Jake Haulot and Bozeman, Montana's Cole Schroeder both put together solid outings to finish fourth and fifth respectively. Completing the top 10 at Petaluma Speedway on Saturday were Roseville's Jodie Robinson, Salinas' Caleb Debem, Dunnigan's Luke Hayes, Livermore's Travis Labat and Sebastopol's Bradley Terrell. Debem, the current Ocean Speedway point leader, earned the Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Award in the feature. The Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour will now have a month off before resuming things with Western Sprint Tour Speedweek. It all gets underway with the annual Tyler Wolf Memorial at Chico's Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday July 18th. - JESSE SCHLOTFELDT BAGS FIRST NARC WIN AT COTTAGE GROVE
Jesse Schlotfeldt scored the biggest win of his career when he earned his first career NARC 410 sprint car main event victory, taking the checkered flag in Friday's Fastest Five Days in Motorsports checkered flag at Cottage Grove Speedway. It did not come easy for Schlotfeldt, who had to fight his way through traffic throughout the 30-lap event. Starting alongside pole sitter Tanner Holmes, Schlotfeldt got the better start on the green flag and immediately took the lead. He put distance between himself and Holmes in the opening laps but soon found himself in traffic that was at times heavy and also holding him up. As the laps ticked away, Holmes on numerous instances closed in as Schlotfeldt struggled at times to pass slower cars but couldn't make anything happen at first. As they completed the 24th lap at the line, Holmes had a run off of Turn 4 and Schlotfeldt slapped the wall as they approached Turn 1. Holmes threw it down low and moved up to briefly take the top spot, but Schlotfeldt had gathered himself back up and immediately turned his car back down off of Turn 2 as Holmes drifted up, retaking the lead down the back stretch. Holmes then slapped the front stretch wall himself on the next lap, and Schlotfeldt remained up front. Thanks to a late caution, Schlotfeldt had a clear track in front of him for a few more laps, and only had one slow car trying clear on the next to last lap on his way to his first NARC win aboard the Grinder's Automotive & Marine-sponsored JRS Motorsports No. 21s Shark-powered Triple X. "It feels good to finally click off the first win in the NARC series, and first win at (Cottage Grove) too. I've had a lot of bad luck here, wrecking some cars here. I'm glad I couldn't (finally) put it up front for my boys," said Schlotfeldt, who was happy to get the NARC victory but also to shake off his Cottage Grove jinx. He praised his crew for his car's performance as well. "The car was on rails. I smoked the wall a couple of times, and I was just holding on for dear life there at the end. I can't thank my guys enough." After hitting the wall himself, Holmes lost two positions immediately after but benefited from the timely caution flag for a stopped car that reverted the field to 25 laps completed, putting Holmes back in front of Dominic Gorden and Justin Sanders who both had passed him. Despite concern for his right rear tire after the wall contact, Holmes continued to run second and finished there aboard the Legacy Builder Supply-sponsored Holmes Racing No. 18t Rider-powered Triple X. Sanders made a late pass around Gorden to finish third, giving him podium finishes in all three races this week aboard the Yuba Sutter Aviation-sponsored Mittry Motorsports No. 2x Fisher-powered KPC. Those three podium finishes follow his win last Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway and continued his hot streak and rise back towards the top of the NARC point standings. Friends with Schlotfeldt, Sanders was one of the first to congratulate him on his first win. Gorden finished fourth aboard the Gary Silva Ranches sponsored Fortitude Driver Development No. 10 Rider-powered Maxim. Dominic Scelzi, who had podium finishes the first two nights this week, finished fifth in the Red Rose Transportation-sponsored Scelzi Enterprises No. 41 Kistler-powered Maxim. Australian star James McFadden, won the first two races of the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports, Wednesday at Southern Oregon Speedway and Thursday at Douglas County Dirt Track, couldn't make it a hat trick Friday, but still earned the Williams Roofing Hard Charger Award with his run from 13th to finish sixth. Landon Brooks, Sean Becker, D.J. Netto and Caeden Steele rounded out the Top 10. Heat races earlier in the evening were won by Scelzi, Gorden and Robbie Price. Holmes then won the Beacon Wealth Strategies - Raymond James Trophy Dash to secure the pole position for the main event. Holmes paced the 23-car field in Automotive Racing Products Qualifying with a time of 10.550 seconds around the ¼-mile, high-banked clay oval. - Petaluma Speedway welcomes SCCT for Wings Over Wine Country this Saturday
Petaluma, CA…The Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour campaign rolls on with its first appearance of the season at the cool confines of Petaluma Speedway this Saturday June 14th. The show dubbed as "Wings Over Wine Country" marks the fifth event for the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour this year. It's the first of two season stops at Petaluma Speedway, with a return visit occurring for the annual Adobe Cup in September. Please note the facility features an earlier start time, with the Pit Meeting at 3:45pm and cars on track at 4pm. "We look forward to having the Sprint Car Challenge Tour here at Petaluma Speedway on Saturday," commented track Promoter Rick Faeth. "It will be our first traveling Winged Sprint Car show of the season, and I know our fans are hungry for it. Hopefully everyone can come out and join us for the night." The show at Sonoma County's longest running entertainment venue is the final SCCT race prior to Western Sprint Tour Speedweek, which gets underway on July 18th in Chico. Wings Over Wine Country this Saturday will award $3,000-to-win/ $400-to-start the Shop Kyle Larson main event. Petaluma Speedway is always a welcome stop for race fans around Northern California. The 3/8 mile clay oval routinely yields thrilling wheel-to-wheel competition, as lapped traffic can create some of the most hectic action of any venue on tour. Auburn's Andy Forsberg is the most recent winner in Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour competition, having snagged the Davy Thomas Memorial on May 30th. The two-time SCCT champion also claimed the Adobe Cup at Petaluma Speedway last September in Petaluma. "I always enjoy going to Petaluma Speedway and hope to see a full house on Saturday with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour," commented Forsberg. "We've been running well, which certainly gives me confidence going into the night. Petaluma only holds Winged Sprint Car races on a limited basis nowadays so that always makes it special to get down there." More drivers looking to take home the top prize will include Suisun City's Chance Grasty, Sacramento's Austin Wood, Yuba City's Seth Standley, Montana racer Cole Schroeder, Marysville's Dawson and Carson Hammes, Livermore's Travis Labat, Cotati's Jake Haulot, Brentwood's Adriana Demartini, Dunnigan's Luke Hayes and others. - SANDERS TAKES NO PRISONERS AT TARTER MEMORIAL NARC SHOW AT CHICO
(6/7/25 - Andrew Kunas) Chico, CA ... Justin Sanders continued his recent dominance of Silver Dollar Speedway, leading all 35 laps and winning Saturday's David Tarter Memorial in convincing fashion, and earning his third NARC 410 sprint car victory of the season. Sanders has claimed the last three NARC events at the Chico track, going back to his David Tarter Memorial victory last year. He took the lead on the start of the headliner, coming off the outside of the front row, beating his teammate Max Mittry to the line to lead the first lap, and never looked back from there, never being threatened for the lead and picking up the $5,035 paycheck. The winning ride was the Yuba Sutter Aviation-sponsored Mittry Motorsports No. 2x Fisher-powered KPC. After taking the checkered flag, Sanders parked his car in turn four and continued the tradition of the race winner greeting the David Tarter fans gathered in that area of the grandstands. "I don't know about (if it was) easy, but to be honest we got a really good race car right now," Sanders said in the winner's circle, praising his team. "I feel like we've just made the right choices (lately) on this race car. Right now, my race car is really easy to drive. I can kinda put it anywhere I want and make it do what I want it to do." Sanders, now a three-time Tarter winner, shared his appreciation for the event that honors the racer who died in 2012 after a freak pit area accident at Silver Dollar Speedway. "I wanted to win another Tarter," said Sanders, "David Tarter was great. We lost him too soon. Nothing else to say. We lost him too soon. I'm just glad I'm able to stand up here and honor these (Tarter) fans in Turn 4 and get these wins for the Tarter family." Netto was unable to track down Sanders in traffic and finished in the runner-up spot in the Penny Newman Grain-sponsored Netto Ag No. 88N Rider-powered KPC. Shane Golobic made late moves to finish third aboard the NOS Energy-sponsored Matt Wood Racing No. 17w Kistler-powered KPC. - SANDERS TAKES NO PRISONERS AT TARTER MEMORIAL NARC SHOW AT CHICO
Justin Sanders continued his recent dominance of Silver Dollar Speedway, leading all 35 laps and winning Saturday’s David Tarter Memorial in convincing fashion, and earning his third NARC 410 sprint car victory of the season.
- NARC SPRINT CARS INVADE THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST FOR THE FASTEST FIVE DAYS IN MOTORSPORTS
(June 6, 2025 - Andrew Kunas) Auburn, CA ... One of the best weeks of the year for West Coast sprint car fans is here, as the NARC 410 sprint car series invades the Pacific Northwest for the annual Fastest Five Days in Motorsports, part of the "Road to the Dirt Cup." Five consecutive nights of action at as many tracks across two states are on tap, gradually moving north up the I-5 corridor. For most of the tracks, it will represent their only 410 sprint car races of the season. All of this is ahead of the $100,026-to-win Jim Raper Memorial Super Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway on June 19th, 20th and 21st. It all begins Wednesday, June 11th at Southern Oregon Speedway outside of Medford. The next night sees the series visit the Douglas County Dirt Track in Roseburg, followed by a visit to Cottage Grove Speedway, a short drive from Eugene. The final Oregon stop on Saturday, June 14th is Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, near Salem. The final day, Sunday the 15th, sees the NARC sprint cars cross the Columbia River into Washington and head to Elma for the annual Father's Day Timber Cup at Grays Harbor Raceway. Drivers from up and down the West Coast have committed to running all or at least part of the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports. And many fans will be traveling with them for the ultimate sprint car "road trip." Dominic Scelzi, the two-time NARC champion from Fresno and one of the most popular with Northwest race fans, is among those expecting to compete the entire week, and hoping for some good luck to come his way after some recent difficulties. Scelzi won last year's Timber Cup at Grays Harbor Raceway, one of his 23 career NARC triumphs, and hopes for more of that in this year's Fastest Five Days aboard the Gary Scelzi Motorsports No. 41. Reigning NARC champion Justin Sanders of Aromas has had the very meaning of an "up and down" season but has two NARC victories this season and is a still a threat to win on any given night. The 2024 "King of the West" is coming off a recent Top 5 finish at the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial and wants to stay on the "up" side of things aboard the Mittry Motorsports No. 2x during the Fastest Five Days. Dominic Gorden of Clovis is riding high with momentum himself aboard the Fortitude Driver Development No. 10, coming off a lucrative victory at the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial. The winner of two NARC events in his short sprint car career, the young driver is hoping that momentum from the Bradway continues, and he adds to his win total during the Fastest Five Days. One big name arriving in the U.S. this week is Australian superstar James McFadden, who will be piloting the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21 entry for the Fastest Five Days and the Dirt Cup at Skagit. McFadden, the winner of 12 World of Outlaws and three High Limit Racing events, was also the winner in January of the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic, Australia's largest sprint car race. Having previously won a NARC event; McFadden is anticipated to immediately compete with the Tarlton team. This team has already experienced success this season with Tanner Holmes as the driver, including securing a NARC victory at Thunderbowl Raceway in May. Many more drivers from California will be making the trip to the Northwest, including former NARC Rookie of the Year Caeden Steele, who recently won his first NARC feature, and 2025 rookie candidate Mariah Ede, both from the Fresno area, along with former NARC champions DJ Netto of Hanford, Bud Kaeding of Campbell, and Sean Becker of Oroville. Benicia's Billy Aton, winner of one NARC feature in his career, is expected also along with a number of drivers who are strong candidates for their first NARC wins, including Lemoore's Gauge Garcia, Rio Oso's Landon Brooks and Tucson's Nick Parker. Angelique Bell from Sacramento, Redding's Max Mittry, John Clark of Windsor, and Laton's Geoffrey Strole are all also expected to join. NORTHWEST DRIVERS DEFENDING THEIR TURF Speaking of Tanner Holmes, the young driver from Jacksonville, Oregon has been looking forward to this stretch of races in his home state and region. After racing for the Tarlton team, Holmes will jump into his family's No. 18T for this week's races and looks to perform well in front of friends and family. Southern Oregon Speedway will always be a special place to Holmes as last year's Fastest Five Days opener saw Holmes win his first NARC race. Holmes has won sprint car features at all four of the Oregon tracks NARC is visiting, including already this season at Cottage Grove, and hopes that it translates to more NARC success. Tyler Thompson, piloting the Main Motorsports No. 35km, is also racing on home soil this week. The Harrisburg, Oregon driver is a former track champion at Cottage Grove Speedway. Chasing NARC Rookie of the Year honors and sitting third in point standings, Thompson is hoping his familiarity with the Oregon tracks can be a spark, as he is one of the drivers pursuing his first NARC feature victory. It would also surprise absolutely none of the Oregon sprint car fans if Tyler Thompson and Tanner Holmes wound up racing each other with a victory on the line at any of the four races in the Beaver State. Whether it's in their family cars or racing for others, Thompson and Holmes have always seemed to find themselves racing around each other, going back to their younger days racing limited sprint cars. It's continued in the 410 ranks as the young men have found themselves racing each other for position multiple times in NARC competition this year. Drivers from Washington state and British Columbia are expected to venture down for all or part of the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports. One will be Cobble Hill, B.C.'s Robbie Price, a former Dirt Cup winner who won his first NARC race at last year's Willamette Speedway event. Jesse Schlotfeldt of Arlington, Washington will be a driver from the Evergreen State to watch. Schlotfeldt is a 410 winner at Skagit this season and also has wins this spring at both Douglas County Dirt Track and Grays Harbor Raceway in non-NARC competition to his credit. Schlotfeldt had indicated his plan to run the entire week and hopes to be a first-time NARC winner sometime during the week. Levi Klatt from British Columbia, a former Skagit Speedway track champion, has said he will run at least the first three races in Oregon, and depending on how things go sticking around for the last two races are a possibility for him. Medford, Oregon's Camden Robustelli, a standout from dwarf cars who has been finding success in limited and 360 sprint cars, has gotten his feet wet in 410 sprint cars and plans to get seat time against the stars of NARC. Robustelli indicated his plans to run at least four Oregon races, but if things go well, he may continue north to Elma for the Timber Cup and to Skagit for Dirt Cup. Medford's Blaine Cory, who made his NARC debut at April's Mini-Gold Cup, is expected to get more seat time against the best of NARC and run the entire week. Puyallup, Washington's Trey Starks, twice a NARC winner in the past and a High Limit Racing winner last year, is anticipated to appear at a couple of races towards the end of the week. Starks is a former NARC winner at Grays Harbor Raceway and already has numerous Skagit Speedway wins this season. While regularly racing Skagit Speedway, Starks is usually a contender wherever he goes and same goes for when he shows up at a NARC race. - NARC SPRINT CARS HEAD TO CHICO ON SATURDAY FOR THE DAVID TARTER MEMORIAL
(6/2/25 - Andrew Kunas) Chico, CA ... A busy stretch for the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series continues this Saturday with the 12th running of the David Tarter Memorial at Silver Dollar Speedway. Saturday's show, NARC's second and final visit to the Chico ¼-mile this season, honors the memory of Tarter, who died at the age of 30 in 2012 when a freak accident in the pit area took his life. The first David Tarter Memorial was run in 2013, won by Oroville's Sean Becker, and the event has since become a staple at Silver Dollar Speedway, where Tarter was a regular participant and former track rookie of the year. Saturday's 35-lap main event will pay $5,035 to win. Reigning NARC champion Justin Sanders of Aromas won last year's David Tarter Memorial on his way to the title and is expected to be one of the favorites as he was also a winner of the thrilling Mini-Gold Cup in April aboard the Mittry Motorsports No. 2x. Dominic Gorden of Clovis is coming off a big win in last Saturday's Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial at Placerville Speedway. Gorden finished 16th in April's Mini-Gold Cup, but Gorden and the Fortitude Driver Development No. 10 team is hoping his second NARC victory serves as a springboard and creates momentum for the young driver going forward. Of the 11 prior times the David Tarter Memorial has been run, former NARC champion Kyle Hirst has the most victories in the event with five checkered flags. Sanders is the only other multi-time winner of the race. WHO TO WATCH Tanner Holmes and the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21T team have seen success together this season, including one NARC victory at the Morrie Williams Memorial, but Saturday's event will be their last together for a time as Holmes will shortly return to his family's no. 18T. At that point, Australian star James McFadden will jump into the Tarlton car for the next several weeks starting with next week's Fastest Five Days in Motorsports. Holmes nearly won the Mini-Gold Cup in a thrilling finish, narrowly losing out to Sanders. Returning to Chico this weekend, the Holmes and Tarlton team are hoping to improve by one spot to close out their first run together. Shane Golobic is another driver who has had success at Silver Dollar Speedway over the years. The Fremont driver has finished in the Top 10 in each regular NARC feature this season and that includes three podium finishes. Coming off a runner-up finish in the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial, Golobic is a driver due for another NARC victory. Other drivers expected to compete this weekend include former series champion DJ Netto from Hanford, Oregon's Tyler Thompson, Fresno drivers Dominic Scelzi and Mariah Ede, Templeton's Kaleb Montgomery, Oroville's Sean Becker, Campbell's Bud Kaeding, Lemoore's Gauge Garcia, Easton's Caeden Steele, Benicia's Billy Aton, Lincoln's Tanner Carrick and many more. FAN INFO Silver Dollar Speedway is located at the Silver Dollar Fair on 2343 Fair St in Chico. BCRA Lightning sprints will be racing also. Tickets are $30 for adults, while seniors 65+ and juniors 13-17 are in for $25. Kids 12 and under are in for free. Silver Dollar Speedway will also be racing sprint cars on Friday night, giving fans two nights of racing action this weekend. - PLACERVILLE SPEEDWAY HOSTS NARC SPRINT CARS FOR THE DAVE BRADWAY JR. MEMORIAL RACE
(5/26/25 - Andrew Kunas) Placerville, CA ... One of the most prestigious sprint car races on the West Coast is next for the NARC Racing Series, as the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series competes in the 34th running of the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway. The event honors the memory of a popular young sprint car racer who lost his life at age 28 in a crash at the 1987 Super Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway. Dave Bradway Jr was a winner of several NARC main events, his first coming at Petaluma Speedway in 1982, and he also won a track championship at the old Baylands Speedway. First run in 1991 and held every year but once since, the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial for a long time has been considered one of NARC's signature events and a staple on the West Coast sprint car scene. As has been the case every year, extra payout - a lot of it - will be up for grabs for the racers. Everything from bonuses for winning heat races, to cash for leading specific laps, to drawing specific pills, to quick qualifying time, to bonuses for just winning the race, and much more, will all be going out on Saturday night. With bonuses, Saturday's 40-lap main event will pay at least $5,500 to win. D.J. Netto of Hanford is the NARC points leader going into Saturday's race, having won twice so far this season as he picked up wins at the Stockton Dirt Track and Antioch Speedway. The former NARC champion will be looking to win the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial for the first time aboard the Netto Ag No. 88N. Fremont's Shane Golobic, second in the points, should be one to watch aboard the Matt Wood Racing No. 17w as he has seen a lot of success at Placerville Speedway in his career and has won twice there already this season in non-NARC competition. Golobic led much of the way in last year's Bradway, but this time hopes to win it for the first time. The list of past winners of the Bradway features many of the best to ever do it, including National Sprint Car Hall of Famers Brent Kaeding, Jimmy Sills and Paul McMahan. McMahan won the inaugural Bradway in 1991, while Kaeding has four to his credit, with Bradway victories coming in 1995, 1999, 2000 and 2007. No one, however, has won more than former series champion Jonathan Allard, who has five Bradway victories on his resume, picking up checkered flags in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2012. WHO TO WATCH The 2025 season in NARC competition for reigning series champion Justin Sanders has been nothing short of a roller coaster. Sanders, out of Aromas, has won two NARC features this season but has also experienced a number of lows across the way, including twice spinning out while racing for the lead. Sanders though has seen success at the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial, being a two-time winner of the event including last year's barn burner when he picked off a number of cars in the late laps to win it. Having a low moment the last NARC outing, Sanders hopes the roller coaster ride swings back up in the form of a third Bradway win for him aboard the Mittry Motorsports No. 2x. Lemoore's Gauge Garcia is still hunting for his first NARC 410 sprint car victory, and Placerville Speedway could be the place where that happens. Garcia led laps in last year's Dave Bradway Jr Memorial main event. Garcia and the Keller Motorsports No. 2k team hope that it happens again, only this time they stay up front and pick up a special victory. FAN INFO The NARC program will include qualifying, four 8-lap heat races, a 6-lap Trophy Dash, a 12-lap Last Chance Qualifier and a 40-lap main event. Placerville Speedway is located on the El Dorado County Fairgrounds at 100 Placerville Drive, in town just off U.S. Hwy 50. General admission is $28 for adults. Tickets are $25 for seniors 62 and older, military and kids ages 12 to 17. Kids ages 6 to 11 are in for only $10 and young children 5 and under are in for free. The fairgrounds is charging $10 for parking. There is more sprint car action on Friday night as well for fans to check out. The inaugural Davy Thomas Memorial, honoring the NorCal sprint car superfan who also supported NARC, will feature SCCT 360 sprint cars action that night. On Friday, May 16th, the NARC teams will head to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville for the Salute to First Responders. Police officers, fire fighters and EMT's with proper identification are all getting in for $10 off that night. The event is the first of four NARC events scheduled to take place at the quarter-mile clay oval this season. The April event was canceled due to bad weather. Justin Sanders, on his way to the 2024 NARC championship, won the lone NARC event in Watsonville last season when he picked up the prestigious Howard Kaeding Classic. After the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial was rained out on April 26th and subsequently rescheduled for this fall (October 4th), the series will make the first of its two visits this season to Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, with this Saturday's (May 17th) event being the ever-popular Morrie Williams Memorial Twin 20's. The event honors one of California's legendary sprint car team owners. Morrie Williams achieved many victories in races and championships, including four NARC King of the West titles. His iconic white No. The "0" car has been driven by numerous highly skilled racers over the years. After the first 20-lap race, all lead lap cars will be inverted for the second race. Numerous prizes will be up for grabs, thanks to the members of the Williams Motorsports team. A cash bonus of $1,000 also awaits the driver who accumulates the most points over the two features. Overall, more than $33,000 in prize money and product awards are on the line. Sanders and Tim Kaeding won the Morrie Williams Memorial Twin 20 features at Kings Speedway last year, with Cole Macedo earning the overall title by accumulating the most points across both races. Shane Golobic and Cole Macedo won the NARC events at Thunderbowl Raceway in 2024. Hanford's D.J. Netto has won two out of three NARC races to start the season. The former series champion won the March 8th opener at the Stockton Dirt Track and then last Saturday took the eventful Contra Costa Clash at Antioch Speedway. Netto, winner of nine NARC 410 races in his career, has sprint car victories to his credit at both tracks NARC is visiting this weekend. WHO TO WATCH Tim Kaeding of San Jose finished fourth in last Saturday's feature at Antioch after moving up eight positions aboard the Williams Motorsports No. 0, and it wasn't the first time he passed a lot of cars this season as back on March 8th at Stockton Kaeding moved up 15 positions to earn the Williams Roofing Hard Charger nod. In the Morrie Williams Memorial, the "Zero Heroes" have seen much success at the event bearing the name of their late team owner as they have scored a win in one of the Twin 20 features each year and with different drivers piloting the car. In the second feature last year, Kaeding charged from the 12th starting position and took the lead on the 15th lap on his way to a victory. Fremont's Shane Golobic has seen success at both of this weekend's tracks with the Matt Wood Racing No. 17w team. Golobic was the winner of last May's NARC race at Thunderbowl Raceway, and in 2023 he was the winner of the Howard Kaeding Classic at Ocean Speedway. Those wins are among the 16 career NARC triumphs by Golobic. FAN INFO Ocean Speedway is located at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds at 2601 E. Lake Ave. Friday's event will also have IMCA modifieds and the South Bay Dwarf Cars on the schedule. All police, fire fighters and EMT's with proper identification will get $10 off their admission. Front gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 6:00 p.m. and racing at 7:00 p.m. Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds on K Street. Saturday's show is all sprint cars as it will also feature 360 sprint cars and the California Racesaver sprints. Grandstand tickets are $35, seniors getting in for $33. Bleacher seats are $30 for adults, $28 for seniors and $15 for kids 12 or younger (kids 5 and younger are free in the bleachers). - ANTIOCH SPEEDWAY HOSTS THE NARC SPRINT CARS FOR THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY CLASH
(5/5/25 -Andrew Kunas) Antioch, CA ... After some unscheduled time off thanks to Mother Nature, the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series gets back to action this Saturday, May 10th, with the Contra Costa County Clash at Antioch Speedway. Saturday's event is the first of two NARC events scheduled at the ¼-mile clay oval this year, the other being on October 11th. Saturday's show is one of the rare opportunities fans in Antioch have to watch the 900-plus horsepower winged sprint cars in action. Former series champion D.J. Netto, aboard the Netto Ag No. 88N, goes into the event with a five-point advantage over Templeton's Kaleb Montgomery. Netto won the NARC season opener March 8th at Stockton Dirt Track and backed that up with a fourth place run at the Mini-Gold Cup on April 12th at Silver Dollar Speedway. The energetic young Montgomery, with a pair of top five finishes in different cars, is knocking on the door of his first 410 sprint car victory. Veteran racer Shane Golobic sits two points back of Montgomery in third place. Justin Sanders, winner of last month's Mini-Gold Cup, was the winner in last year's Contra Costa County Clash at Antioch Speedway, and it was the first of his series leading seven wins on his way to a NARC championship in 2024. WHO TO WATCH Shane Golobic, from Fremont, is one to be watched on Saturday. Golobic finished second to Sanders at Antioch last year. This season, Golobic has been competitive everywhere he has raced, having picked up wins in sprint cars in non-NARC competition and in a midget recently. Driving the Matt Wood Racing No. 17w, Golobic figures to be one of the favorites. Golobic has 16 NARC victories to his credit. Two-time NARC "King of the West" Dominic Scelzi of Fresno is another driver to watch on Saturday. Scelzi, a winner of 23 NARC main events in his career, had problems in last year's Contra Costa County Clash, but in 2023 he was victorious at Antioch. The charismatic fan favorite looks to add another Antioch triumph to his resume on Saturday aboard the Gary Scelzi Motorsports No. 41. Dylan Bloomfield of Oakley could be considered a dark horse on Saturday. The young driver of the Vertullo Racing No. 83v finished third in last year's race at Antioch, and a couple other times last season he was in contention for his first NARC victory. Saturday's race could be another opportunity for Bloomfield to finally break through. A full field of sprint car teams are expected to fill the pit area. Other drivers expected to compete include Roseville's Sean Becker and Ryan Bernal, Tanner Carrick of Lincoln, Clovis drivers Dominic Gorden and Mariah Ede, Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Tyler Thompson from Oregon, Lemoore's Caeden Steele, Gauge Garcia of Fresno, Benicia's Billy Aton, Windsors John Clark, and many more. FAN INFO Antioch Speedway is located at 1201 W 10th Street in town near Hwy 4. It will be an exciting open wheel night for fans as the Graunstadt Memorial for the BCRA and WMR Midgets are also on the card. General admission is $35 for adults, and $25 for seniors, military and kids. Front gates open at 4:00 p.m. with hot laps scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6:00 p.m. ABOUT NARC The Northern Auto Racing Club is the premier 410-winged sprint car series in the western United States. - NARC SPRINT CARS HEAD TO TULARE FOR CHRIS & BRIAN FARIA MEMORIAL RACE
(4/21/25 - Andrew Kunas) Tulare, CA ,,, A Thunderbowl Raceway cornerstone event is next on tap for the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series, which will race in the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial this Saturday, April 26th. Saturday's event is the first of two visits that NARC will make to the 1/3-mile, high-banked clay oval located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds this season. This marks the third stop on the 27-event NARC campaign. First contested in 2002, the event honors a pair of brothers from the Faria family, longtime participants in California racing. Chris Faria, who was an up-and-coming racer, passed away after a farming accident in 1993. His older brother Brian, who was active behind the scenes at Thunderbowl Raceway, tragically passed away in early 2006 in a traffic accident, and Brian's name was soon put alongside his brother's name for this race. The event, held at one of California's most challenging dirt tracks, has long been looked forward to by NARC competitors and fans, and the list of past winners of the race reads like a who's who of west coast sprint car racing. Jason Meyers, a future two-time World of Outlaws champion, won the inaugural event in 2002. National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Brent Kaeding won it twice in the latter years of his legendary career. A young kid named Kyle Larson, years before the NASCAR world got to know him, was the 2010 winner of the race. NARC champions such as D.J. Netto and Kyle Hirst are also past winners. Last year's Chris & Brian Faria Memorial was rained out on its original sprint date, but the series and Thunderbowl Raceway were able to reschedule the event to October 12th, and it was Cole Macedo picking up the victory that night. Netto, who lives just down the road from Thunderbowl Raceway in Hanford, currently leads the NARC point standings after two completed events aboard the Netto Ag No. 88N. With his win in the season opening event at Stockton Dirt Track, followed by his fourth place run at the Mini Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway, Netto carries a five-point advantage over Templeton's Kaleb Montgomery. Montgomery, having driven two different cars in two races, turned in Top 5 finishes each time, including a third-place effort at the Mini Gold Cup. WHO TO WATCH Justin Sanders, after a tough month of March, bounced back in a big way at Silver Dollar Speedway, winning the Mini Gold Cup after a last lap battle with Tanner Holmes. With the $10,000 NARC victory at Chico, the reigning NARC "King of the West" clawed back to sixth in the standings, only 12 points out of the lead and feeling that momentum is back on the side of the Mittry Motorsports No. 2x. Fremont's Shane Golobic enters the night third in the NARC point standings aboard the Matt Wood Racing No. 17w. While Golobic did not fare well in the Faria Memorial race last October, he was victorious in the NARC race at the Tulare clay oval in May. Golobic has been competitive at Thunderbowl Raceway, logging many top five and top ten finishes over the years, including a seventh place run just last month with the High Limit Racing series during their spring California swing. Others expected to compete include Roseville's Sean Becker and Ryan Bernal, Lincoln's Tanner Carrick, San Jose's Tim Kaeding, Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield, Tyler Thompson from Oregon, Arizona's Ashton Torgerson, Chance Grasty from Suisun City, Campbell's Bud Kaeding, Benicia's Billy Aton, John Clark from Windsor, Landon Brooks from Rio Oso, and many others. Central California will be well represented in the pit area with competitors including two-time series champion Dominic Scelzi and Gauge Garcia from Fresno, 2024 Rookie of the Year Caeden Steele of Lemoore, and Dominic Gorden and Mariah Ede from Clovis. FAN INFO It will be all sprint cars on Saturday night at Thunderbowl Raceway, as winged 360 Kings of Thunder sprint cars and California Racesaver sprints will also be in action. The NARC portion of the program includes qualifying, three eight-lap heat races, a six-lap trophy dash, and a 30-lap feature event headliner. Tickets will be available at the front gate for fans. Grandstand tickets are $35, and $33 for seniors. Bleacher seats are $30 for adults, $28 for seniors and $15 for kids 12 and under. Pit passes are $45. Front gates open at 4:00 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled for 5:00 p.m. with qualifying at 6:00 and racing beginning at 7:00 p.m. For first time visitors, Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds on K Street. - SANDERS HOLDS OFF HOLMES TO CLAIM EPIC NARC MINI GOLD CUP THRILLER AT CHICO
(4/12/25 - Andrew Kunas) Chico, CA ... Fans at Silver Dollar Speedway were treated to a NARC 410 Sprint Car thriller and instant classic on Saturday night, as Justin Sanders fended off heavy traffic and a determined Tanner Holmes to win the Mini Gold Cup and a $10,000 payday. Sanders, who led the final 19 laps of the 40-lap race after taking the lead from Tim Kaeding, encountered slower traffic in the closing laps, allowing Holmes to close in rapidly. On the final lap, in the second turn of the quarter-mile bullring, Sanders drifted up as he tried to navigate around slower cars with Holmes getting a run around the top. The two cars making light contact with Sanders getting into the loose clay at the top, allowing Holmes to move by. Holmes, however, then had to deal with the slower cars, who were running in his preferred top and middle lines through the final two corners. Holmes made contact with one while Sanders, who favored the very bottom on that end of the racetrack, used it to get back by Holmes off of turn four to steal the win aboard the Yuba Sutter Aviation sponsored Mittry Motorsports No. 2x Fisher-powered Maxim. This finish sent the Silver Dollar Speedway crowd into a frenzy. "I kind of floated up," explained Sanders. "I knew that was the 21 car was coming. That motor rips so I could hear it behind me. Tanner got by me, and I can't believe he didn't run the bottom in three and four, and maybe that won us the race. He was running the middle, maybe to block a slider. We're happy to get this win. They're so hard to come by. We had a great car." Despite contact with the slower car, Holmes finished second aboard the American Rock & Rent sponsored Tarlton Motorsports No. 21 Kistler-powered Maxim and the driver from Jacksonville, Oregon received approval from the fans for his late efforts. "It felt like all weekend we were searching and searching," said Holmes, "and finally we put together a great second half." "I just made a mistake on my part (at the end)," Holmes continued. "If I could do it over, I'd do it over, but I'm proud of these 21 guys and we were right there at the end." Kaleb Montgomery raced in the Top 10 throughout the headliner and made late moves to get on the podium aboard the Hansen Machine sponsored McColloch Racing No. 17 Don Ott-powered Maxim. He made a late race pass for third around D.J. Netto. Netto, who won the season opening race at Stockton, ran as high as second before finishing fourth in the Penny Newman Grain sponsored Netto Ag No. 88N Rider-powered KPC. Tyler Thompson finished fifth aboard the HAM Construction sponsored Main Motorsports No. 35km Kistler-powered Maxim. Tanner Carrick, Shane Golobic, Tim Kaeding, Sean Becker, and Ryan Bernal rounded out the Top 10. Bernal earned the Williams Roofing Hard Charger nod, moving up seven positions to finish tenth. Bud Kaeding won the Winters Performance Last Chance Qualifier. Heat races were claimed by Montgomery, Holmes, Netto and Landon Brooks. Tyler Thompson set overall fast time in qualifying with a 11.698 second lap around the ¼-mile clay oval. - NARC SPRINT CAR TEAMS HEAD TO CHICO IN PURSUIT OF $10,000 MINI GOLD CUP WINNER CHECK
(4/7/25 - Andrew Kunas) Chico, CA ... The first big money race of the season has arrived for the NARC 410 sprint cars, with the prestigious Mini Gold Cup happening this Saturday, April 12th at Silver Dollar Speedway. Saturday's winner will score NARC's first five-figure payday of 2025, taking home $10,000 for their efforts. First run in 1987, the Mini Gold Cup was a longtime staple on the Northern California sprint car schedule, bringing fans and competitors to the challenging ¼-mile clay oval in Chico. Several editions over the years saw the event on the World of Outlaws schedule, but it has otherwise been a NARC event. After a hiatus of a few years that started with the COVID-19 plagued 2020 season, the SLC Promotions team brought the beloved event back a couple of years ago. Regardless of sanction, the Mini Gold Cup has long been a premier season event sprint car fans on the West Coast. Cole Macedo won last year's Mini Gold Cup after leader Ryan Robinson crashed on the final lap. It was Macedo's second Mini Gold Cup win, that one coming aboard the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21. With Macedo now on the World of Outlaws tour, the Tarlton team has been going with Jacksonville, Oregon standout Tanner Holmes. The pairing has already found success, winning an earlier race at Silver Dollar Speedway and then turning into multiple Top 5 finishes with High Limit Racing during their March swing through California. That has many fans pointing at Holmes as one of the favorites on Saturday. Hanford's D.J. Netto, with his win in last month's NARC season opener at the Stockton Dirt Track, has the points lead aboard the Netto Ag No. 88n going into the weekend with a four-point advantage over Fremont's Shane Golobic. Netto, a former NARC champion, will be one to watch, as he won twice in other 410 sprint car competition at Silver Dollar Speedway last year, including the Friday night Mini Gold Cup Tune-Up. Golobic also already is a winner in Chico this season in non-NARC competition, winning the night before Holmes did. Golobic and the Matt Wood Racing No. 17w are also hoping that translates to NARC success at the Mini Gold Cup on Saturday. In the Mini Gold Cup record books, National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Brent Kaeding leads everyone with four total Mini Gold Cup triumphs, taking checkered flags in 1991, 1993, 1996 and 2001. A pair of World of Outlaws champions, Jason Meyers, and Donny Schatz each have three wins in the prestigious race. WHO TO WATCH One other driver who will be watched is reigning NARC champion Justin Sanders of Aromas. The 2024 "King of the West" won the David Tarter Memorial last June when the NARC 410 sprint cars last tackled Silver Dollar Speedway, one of his seven NARC wins en route to the series championship. Sanders and the Mittry Motorsports No. 2x are looking at the Mini Gold Cup as the perfect opportunity to bounce back after a disappointing month of March. Never one to be counted out at Silver Dollar Speedway, San Jose's Tim Kaeding is always one to keep an eye on aboard the Williams Motorsports No. 0. A two-time "King of the West" and one of NARC's all-time winningest drivers with 74 victories, Kaeding has won several big races in Chico over the years, and that includes two Mini Gold Cups, those wins coming in 2005 and 2007. Templeton driver Kaleb Montgomery gave a strong performance at the Salute to Leroy Van Conett at Stockton on March 8th, driving from 15th to finish 4th in the NARC season opener. He later turned more heads by making the dash and finishing fifth in a High Limit Racing main event at Perris Auto Speedway. After this prior weekend's cancelations, fans remain eager to see what the young driver has ahead of him as he pursues his first NARC victory aboard the Montgomery Racing No. 3. A full field of sprint car teams are expected to fill the pit area. Other drivers expected to compete on Friday night include Roseville's Sean Becker, Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield, Tanner Carrick of Lincoln, Clovis drivers Dominic Gorden and Mariah Ede, Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Arizona driver Ashton Torgerson, Landon Brooks from Rio Oso, Tyler Thompson from Oregon, Lemoore's Caeden Steele, Gauge Garcia of Fresno, Benicia's Billy Aton and many more. FAN INFO Front gates open at 4:00 pm, with hot laps at 5:30 pm and qualifying to follow at 6:00 pm. Racing is scheduled to start at 6:45 pm. BCRA lightning sprints are also scheduled to compete. As a bonus for fans, Silver Dollar Speedway is also racing on Friday night, April 11th, with 410 sprint cars in action as a tune-up for Saturday's $10,000 to win Mini Gold Cup. Fans who cannot make it in person can watch live on www.floracing.com. FloRacing livestreams all NARC shows. - NARC HEAD TO OCEAN SPEEDWAY ON FRIDAY FOR THE SPRINT CAR "SPRING FLING" RACE
(3/31/25 - Andrew Kunas) Watsonville, CA … After a few weeks off, the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series returns to action when it opens the month of April with a Friday night showdown at Ocean Speedway on April 4th. Friday's Spring Fling is the first of a series-high five races scheduled at the ¼-mile Watsonville, California clay oval, which has long been a staple on the NARC tour. This comes after just one NARC race was held in Watsonville last year, when eventual series champion Justin Sanders picked up the big Howard Kaeding Classic victory in July. In 2025, race fans in the Monterey Bay area will be treated to much more winged 410 sprint car action, and it begins Friday night. NARC was scheduled to also race this Saturday, April 5th at the Stockton Dirt Track, where the series opened its season on March 8th, but a recent electrical fire at the San Joaquin Fairgrounds has left the facility unsafe to use for at least the next couple of weeks, forcing the cancellation of Saturday's event. Hanford driver D.J. Netto, with his win at Stockton in March, is the NARC points leader going into Friday's event with a four-point advantage over Shane Golobic of Fremont. Netto knows Ocean Speedway well as he is also a former feature winner there aboard the Netto Ag No. 88n. Golobic and the Matt Wood Racing No. 17w team should be competitive at Ocean Speedway as well, as they were Howard Kaeding Classic winners in Watsonville just two years ago. Justin Sanders and the Mittry Motorsports No. 2x team is also looking to bounce back in a big way after his untimely spin out while running second in the season opening race at Stockton. Sanders was battling hard, trying to pass Netto for the lead in traffic, when he spun out as he tried to pass a lapped car. He eventually finished 15th and is looking for an immediate turnaround with his Mittry Motorsports team. WHO TO WATCH One driver that many fans will be keeping an eye on this weekend is Kaleb Montgomery. The young Templeton, California driver turned in a solid performance in the NARC season opener, driving from 15th to finish fourth in the main event at Stockton. Just a couple of weeks later, Montgomery turned a lot of eyes by making the dash and then turned in an impressive fifth place finish in the main event with the High Limit Racing series at Perris Auto Speedway. The strong runs have Montgomery feeling confident as he pursues his first NARC victory aboard his Montgomery Racing No. 3. A change in philosophy by Montgomery may be a factor as well. "I'm just having fun with my family," Montgomery said last week. "I traded my goals in a race night for standards, and as long as I meet my standards, (I believe) the wins will come." Another driver and team due to hit it big is Jacksonville, Oregon's Tanner Holmes and the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21 team, who are running a partial schedule together. After difficulties in the NARC season opener at Stockton, the team found success during High Limit's run through California in March, with Holmes earning fourth and fifth place finishes at Thunderbowl Raceway and Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway, respectively, and then running second place most of the way at Perris Auto Speedway before losing a right rear tire on a rubber down track. The Tarlton Motorsports team has long been no stranger to success with NARC, winning the series titles in 2015 and 2016, and nearly won the NARC title last year with Cole Macedo (now on the World of Outlaws tour.) A full field of sprint car teams are expected to fill the pit area. Other drivers expected to compete on Friday night include Roseville's Sean Becker, Tim Kaeding of San Jose, Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield, Tanner Carrick of Lincoln, Clovis drivers Dominic Gorden and Mariah Ede, Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Arizona driver Ashton Torgerson, Landon Brooks from Rio Oso, Tyler Thompson from Oregon, Lemoore's Caeden Steele, Gauge Garcia of Fresno, Benicia's Billy Aton and many more. FAN INFO Friday's event at Ocean Speedway will see IMCA sport mods, hobby stocks and the South Bay Dwarf Cars on the card with NARC. Front gates open at 4:30pm, qualifying begins at 6:00 p.m., followed by racing at 7:00 pm. Fans who cannot make it in person can watch live on www.floracing.com. FloRacing livestreams all NARC shows.
