- Shane Golobic surges to 14th career SCCT win on Thursday at Marysville Raceway
Marysville, CA…Shane Golobic made his first start of SCCT Speedweek count on Thursday night at Marysville Raceway, as he drove to his 14th career Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour triumph. With the win the Fremont native now moves back out front all by himself as the all-time leader in SCCT victories. "It's nice to get a win during our first start of SCCT Speedweek here in Marysville," Golobic said following the race. "It was a tricky track tonight, but luckily, we were able to get out front and set the pace. Hopefully we can carry the momentum into Chico tomorrow and Placerville on Saturday." SCCT Western Sprint Speedweek Round two and three winner Colby Copeland jumped out front at the waving of the green flag in the 35-lapper. Early on Harrisburg, Oregon driver Tyler Thompson hounded the rear of the VSR No. 5v, as he looked for his second victory of Speedweek. Lapped traffic created some excitement during the opening stages of the feature and on lap 10, Shane Golobic went two for one, getting by both Thompson and Golobic in one fell swoop. Several yellows slowed the flow of the contest after that, but through it all, Golobic remained calm, cool and collected. The driver of the NOS Energy Drink No. 17w had his way with things out front and went on to cross under the Darin Stahl checkered flag for victory. Auburn's Andy Forsberg made a late pass to secure the runner up position and in doing so, became the brand new SCCT season long point leader. It also marked his third podium of SCCT Speedweek. Thompson, Shane Hopkins and Dylan Bloomfield rounded out the top-five. Completing the top-10 in the main event were Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Tanner Carrick, who came from 17th to sixth over Copeland, Nick Parker, Dawson Hammes and Steel Powell. With four rounds complete in SCCT Speedweek, Colby Copeland continues to lead the standings by 13-points over Tyler Thompson. Forsberg sits 15-digits back in third, with Shane Hopkins 19-points behind in fourth. Dylan Bloomfield rounds out the top-five. The Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour will continue Western Sprint Speedweek at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico on Friday. The event marks the annual Tyler Wolf Memorial. - Colby Copeland goes back-to-back in SCCT Speedweek action at The Douglas County Dirt Track
Roseburg, Oregon…For the second consecutive night with SCCT Speedweek it was the Colby Copeland show, as the Roseville driver checked out and cruised to victory at The Douglas County Dirt Track on Wednesday. Copeland was able to stretch his Speedweek point lead to 21-markers over Tyler Thompson heading into tomorrow's show at Marysville Raceway. His win in Roseburg, Oregon was career triumph number five with the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour. The initial start of the 30-lap finale saw Medford, Oregon's Bailey Hibbard get upside down to bring out a red flag. He emerged okay but was done for the event. When things got going again it was Langley, BC driver Levi Klatt leading the opening lap, before Copeland shot by to grab the point. Despite Copeland rocketing away from the field, the action behind him remained extremely entertaining, as cars sliced and diced on the well-prepared surface. Yuba City youngster Seth Standley drove another impressive race jumping into second on lap six. Standley hung onto second until lap 21 when Corbin Rueschenberg made the pass. Shortly after that, a red flag period occurred and during it, Standley had a fuel leak that put an unfortunate end to his feature. There was no stopping Copeland up front who blitzed away and hid for the win. Rueschenberg crossed the stripe in second to earn his second straight runner up finish, while Dominic Gorden kept things exciting, as he rode the high side to a third-place result. Levi Klatt and Oregon racer Garen Linder rounded out the top-five. Completing the top-10 were Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Shane Hopkins, who carved his way from 15th to sixth over Dylan Bloomfield, Tyler Thompson, Braden Chiaramonte and Andy Forsberg. Chiaramonte also thrilled the crowd on hand by running the fonz until getting into the wall and suffering a flat tire while battling around the top-five. After going to the work area, he rebounded in ninth to maintain his SCCT point lead. A total of 24 cars competed on night three of SCCT Speedweek. Andy Forsberg began the evening by earning the Sierra Foothills Wine Services Fast Time Award with a lap of 13.274. The Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour will continue Western Sprint Speedweek at the Marysville Raceway on Thursday July 18th.
