  BRODY ROA BACK ON ONE OF HIS BEST TRACKS, CENTRAL ARIZONA SPEEDWAY, FRIDAY, AND SATURDAY

  (Cypress, CA, April 10, 2025) When the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars visit the Central Arizona Speedway this Friday and Saturday, April 11th and 12th, Brody Roa, the 2023 series champion, will be one of the favorites to visit victory circle. Dating back to 2019, the Garden Grove, California-based racing star has started seven races on the Pinal County oval and has recorded one win, three runner-up results, a third, one fourth, and one fifth-place finish. Roa initially had no plans of racing this weekend. That is, he had no plans until Arizona-based car owner Chris Bonneau sent him a text offering to drive his car. Thinking back on the only time the two had teamed up in the past, it took Roa about half a second to say, "yes," to the offer. In March of last year, Bonneau and Roa teamed up for a race at Perris Auto Speedway. Roa started the 30-lap A main in 10th and by the end of the 24th lap, he had commandeered the lead and was pulling away from the pack. However, less than two laps later, he dramatically slowed and stopped with a flat tire. The car was rushed back to the work area for a tire change, and when the crew pulled the wheel disk off, a freak deal was discovered. The two plastic bleeder valve fittings in the right rear had snapped off. The crew changed the wheel and sent Roa back to the battlefield. Astonishingly, he quickly started passing cars and drove all the way back to fourth in just four laps. "That was probably one of the best cars on the night I have ever had," Roa enthusiastically remembered. "We qualified halfway decent and worked on the setup through the heat race. We changed the shock package on it for the feature, and it lit off. We started pretty deep. That thing was so comfortable, I was sliding two cars at a time. It was so good off the corner, down the straight, and getting in. I am so excited getting back into it this week." In 2019, Roa not only competed in USAC/CRA, but he also raced full-time in the USAC Southwest series. In fact, he won the Southwest title. In four trips to the Central Arizona Speedway that year, he recorded two second-place finishes, a third, and a fourth. In September of 2020, just prior to the birth of daughter Addison, Roa made his debut in the Jason May #8M and won the CAS main at Central Arizona. Since then, he has only raced at the track two times. Those appearances came at the ASCS/CAS shows to kick off the season on back-to-back nights in February of 2022. He notched a second and a fifth in that trip across the desert. Last week, Roa drove his own #91R at Perris. He qualified 10th in the 24-car field with a lap of 16.861. After a third-place finish in his 10-lap heat, "The Pride of Garden Grove" started 10th in the 30-lap main. Just like his first race of the year five weeks earlier at Perris, he moved forward. This time he ended up sixth. This Friday and Saturday at the Central Arizona Speedway, gates will open at 5:00 with racing at 7:00 each night. The track is located on the Pinal County Fairgrounds at 512 S 11 Mile Corner Road. Adult tickets for the shows are $25.00 each night. Active military and seniors get in for $20.00.   AFTER AN EIGHTH AT PERRIS, TAFOYA RETURNS TO CENTRAL ARIZONA SPEEDWAY FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2019

  (Chino, CA, April 10, 2025) This Friday and Saturday, April 11th and 12th, Eddie Tafoya Jr. will compete with the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars on a track he has not raced on since 2019. The track is the Central Arizona Speedway, and the last time he was there, he was competing for Rookie of the Year with the now-defunct USAC Southwest Sprint Car Series. This week's races come hot on the heels of Tafoya's eighth-place finish last week in the USAC/CRA main event at Perris Auto Speedway. A lot has changed since Tafoya was last at the track, which is located about halfway between Phoenix and Tucson. Not only the racing surface, but the entire facility has had a major makeover since then. As was previously stated, he was running for the USAC Southwest Series Rookie of the Year award in 2019. He not only won that, but he also captured the USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year award the same season. Thus, he has good memories of the facility. "I ran there one time with the Southwest Series when I was trying to get the Rookie of the Year in 2019," Tafoya remembered. "I had to go to one of the races over there to stay in points. I won a heat race by about half a track. I am not sure exactly where I finished in the main, but I think I was close to the top five." Tafoya recently viewed some of the High Limit Sprint Car Series race at the track located on the Pinal County Fairgrounds. He planned on watching some more before heading to the "Copper State." "From what I remember it was big and fast," Tafoya enthused. "So, that sounds good to me. I am on a different chassis now. I should have a decent base. We just have to make decent calls throughout the night." Last Saturday night, Tafoya raced close to his Chino Hills, California, home at Perris Auto Speedway. It was with the same USAC/CRA Series that he is competing with this weekend. Twenty-four cars showed up for the night of racing and 27-year-old Tafoya qualified sixth fastest at 16.755. Being the sixth fastest qualifier and with the way the first two heats finished, meant that Tafoya was a lock to start on the pole for the main if he placed in the top five of his heat. Starting fifth in the 10-lapper, Tafoya quickly advanced to second, and it looked like he was going to secure the pole for the main. However, that was not to be. "I knew I had to get fifth or better to start pole (in the main)," Tafoya offered. "I got to second quickly, like within two laps. I was running there, and I had the valve stem shoot out of the left rear tire. That ran it out of air, and then it popped it off the bead." Unfortunately, the flat knocked Tafoya from second in the heat to last. And it knocked him off the pole for the main. Instead of starting at the head of the pack, he had to roll off inside row four. The stacked field did not disappoint the fans as the drivers put on the usual Perris Auto Speedway "war." Tafoya looked good in the beautiful #51T and battled throughout the race, finishing eighth. "I think car-wise and driver-wise, that is the closest I have been in a while," Tafoya said of the race. "It was definitely a positive. The setup felt good. I was pretty happy with how it went. I was just a little bit off. A lot of guys were going fast, so it was a lot different starting seventh than it would have been starting on the pole."   NARC SPRINT CAR TEAMS HEAD TO CHICO IN PURSUIT OF $10,000 MINI GOLD CUP WINNER CHECK

  (4/7/25 - Andrew Kunas) Chico, CA ... The first big money race of the season has arrived for the NARC 410 sprint cars, with the prestigious Mini Gold Cup happening this Saturday, April 12th at Silver Dollar Speedway. Saturday's winner will score NARC's first five-figure payday of 2025, taking home $10,000 for their efforts. First run in 1987, the Mini Gold Cup was a longtime staple on the Northern California sprint car schedule, bringing fans and competitors to the challenging ¼-mile clay oval in Chico. Several editions over the years saw the event on the World of Outlaws schedule, but it has otherwise been a NARC event. After a hiatus of a few years that started with the COVID-19 plagued 2020 season, the SLC Promotions team brought the beloved event back a couple of years ago. Regardless of sanction, the Mini Gold Cup has long been a premier season event sprint car fans on the West Coast. Cole Macedo won last year's Mini Gold Cup after leader Ryan Robinson crashed on the final lap. It was Macedo's second Mini Gold Cup win, that one coming aboard the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21. With Macedo now on the World of Outlaws tour, the Tarlton team has been going with Jacksonville, Oregon standout Tanner Holmes. The pairing has already found success, winning an earlier race at Silver Dollar Speedway and then turning into multiple Top 5 finishes with High Limit Racing during their March swing through California. That has many fans pointing at Holmes as one of the favorites on Saturday. Hanford's D.J. Netto, with his win in last month's NARC season opener at the Stockton Dirt Track, has the points lead aboard the Netto Ag No. 88n going into the weekend with a four-point advantage over Fremont's Shane Golobic. Netto, a former NARC champion, will be one to watch, as he won twice in other 410 sprint car competition at Silver Dollar Speedway last year, including the Friday night Mini Gold Cup Tune-Up. Golobic also already is a winner in Chico this season in non-NARC competition, winning the night before Holmes did. Golobic and the Matt Wood Racing No. 17w are also hoping that translates to NARC success at the Mini Gold Cup on Saturday. In the Mini Gold Cup record books, National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Brent Kaeding leads everyone with four total Mini Gold Cup triumphs, taking checkered flags in 1991, 1993, 1996 and 2001. A pair of World of Outlaws champions, Jason Meyers, and Donny Schatz each have three wins in the prestigious race. WHO TO WATCH One other driver who will be watched is reigning NARC champion Justin Sanders of Aromas. The 2024 "King of the West" won the David Tarter Memorial last June when the NARC 410 sprint cars last tackled Silver Dollar Speedway, one of his seven NARC wins en route to the series championship. Sanders and the Mittry Motorsports No. 2x are looking at the Mini Gold Cup as the perfect opportunity to bounce back after a disappointing month of March. Never one to be counted out at Silver Dollar Speedway, San Jose's Tim Kaeding is always one to keep an eye on aboard the Williams Motorsports No. 0. A two-time "King of the West" and one of NARC's all-time winningest drivers with 74 victories, Kaeding has won several big races in Chico over the years, and that includes two Mini Gold Cups, those wins coming in 2005 and 2007. Templeton driver Kaleb Montgomery gave a strong performance at the Salute to Leroy Van Conett at Stockton on March 8th, driving from 15th to finish 4th in the NARC season opener. He later turned more heads by making the dash and finishing fifth in a High Limit Racing main event at Perris Auto Speedway. After this prior weekend's cancelations, fans remain eager to see what the young driver has ahead of him as he pursues his first NARC victory aboard the Montgomery Racing No. 3. A full field of sprint car teams are expected to fill the pit area. Other drivers expected to compete on Friday night include Roseville's Sean Becker, Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield, Tanner Carrick of Lincoln, Clovis drivers Dominic Gorden and Mariah Ede, Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Arizona driver Ashton Torgerson, Landon Brooks from Rio Oso, Tyler Thompson from Oregon, Lemoore's Caeden Steele, Gauge Garcia of Fresno, Benicia's Billy Aton and many more.   "SHUGAH" SHANE SEXTON CONTESTS PERRIS USAC/CRA RACE ON SATURDAY

  (Warner Springs, CA, April 3, 2025) After a very pleasing return in his own car at Perris Auto Speedway, "Shuga" Shane Sexton is poised and ready to return to the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars come to town this Saturday night. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and racing will begin at 7:00. Sexton's last appearance in his own car at the track came in 2023. Unfortunately, he set a track altitude record for a 410 sprint car when he nearly sailed over the back straight billboards in a main event. Fortunately, he was driving one of the family-made GAS Chassis Cars that held up well in the spectacular crash. While he did suffer a back injury in the wicked accident, he was well protected in the car that suffered minimal damage. Last year, Sexton, who lives in Warner Springs, California, brought his gorgeous #74 car to The PAS a few times, and each time, engine issues sent the team home before they got to race. Over the winter, with help from fellow racer Austin Grabowski, they solved the problem and the car ran well at The PAS season opener in March. The friendly driver started eighth and placed seventh in the first 10-lap heat race, having missed the setup slightly. However, he was still happy with the car's performance at its first race of the 2025 season. "We rolled out of the gate and the car was perfect," Sexton offered after the race. "I kind of messed up in qualifying. I didn't free the car up enough in qualifying and the heat race. It was really, really tight. So, I could not go forward too much, but the power was there." Unfortunately, Sexton had to start 21st in the 23-car field for the main. While the car was still tight, he became embroiled in the typical Perris Auto Speedway sprint car war. Despite the intense competition on his first night back, Sexton kept his cool throughout the race and brought his car home in 17th. "It was kind of the same story in the main," Sexton shared about the car being tight. "I started at the back and moved forward without incident. I would have liked to start a little higher up in the main. I can't complain. I was able to roll the car into the trailer in one piece and go forward." "I cannot really say from last year, but from two years ago, competition wise, it was completely different," he enthusiastically added. "It seemed the guys were more intense. That was kind of nerve wracking being back in the seat for the first time in a while. It was a wake-up call to show me that these guys are not here to mess around. Everybody has the same job to do and everybody wants it." While he wanted to finish 15th or better, Sexton was still happy with the outcome and looks forward to racing the #74 again this Saturday. "Yeah, I am satisfied," he said when asked about his finish. "Of course, everybody wants to finish a couple spots better. I did not get my top 15 goal. I would rather be 17th going forward than 15th going backward. Any day we go forward, whether it is one spot or 10 spots, I am happy with it."   EDDIE TAFOYA JR. RETURNS TO ACTION SATURDAY AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY

  (Chino, CA, April 3, 2025) After a brief break in his 2025 racing schedule, Eddie Tafoya Jr. returns to action this Saturday night when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series returns to its home track, Perris Auto Speedway. The race will be the ninth of the season for Tafoya and his third with CRA. Spectator gates to watch the affable star compete against a full field of 410 sprint cars will open at 5:00 p.m., with racing scheduled to begin at 7:00. Tafoya, a 27-year-old who resides in Chino Hills, California, began the season in February with six Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series races. He returned west for a USAC/CRA race on the Mohave Valley Raceway's 1/3 mile banked oval on February 22nd. The race at the track, located on the Arizona side of the Colorado River, garnered the veteran driver his best finish of the year thus far when he placed fifth. A week later at Perris, a good qualifying effort earned Tafoya the seventh-best time on the lightning-fast Riverside County half-mile clay oval. He then came home third in his heat and started the main event in third. However, he mysteriously slipped back in the field at the outset of the 30-lap race. Afterward, Tafoya revealed that his lap belt had popped loose. It took the race to be over a quarter of the way through before a yellow flag was thrown, and the talented driver could secure the belt. By that time, the damage was done, and he ended up 13th. Tafoya is looking forward to a better result when he returns to his home track on Saturday. Since the start of the 2021 campaign, he has contested 31 main events at Perris. In those, he has 20 top 10 finishes. Those 20 came in 26 USAC/CRA starts. The six times Tafoya did not finish in the first 10 mostly came from being in the wrong place at the wrong time and getting caught up in someone else's error. Of the aforementioned 20 top 10s, six have been top five finishes. Of those, Tafoya's best USAC/CRA result at The PAS was a third in 2021. Even though he is not racing for points in 2025, in two races, Tafoya sits 16th in the standings with 103 markers. That equals 51.5 points a night. Pro-rated, if he scored those points in the two races he did not attend, he would currently be ranked eighth, even with the lap belt faux pas at the last race.   BRODY ROA BACK ON TRACK WITH USAC/CRA SPRINT CARS SATURDAY AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY

  (Cypress, CA, April 3, 2025) Brody Roa will return to the battleground when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC CRA Sprint Cars visit the Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday, April 5th. The race will be the second of the current campaign for the 2023 series champion. Spectator gates at the "Southern California Home of Major League Sprint Car Racing" will open at 5:00 p.m., and the first race will begin at 7:00. Roa, aka "The Pride of Garden Grove," returned to action on March 1st at Perris after a nearly six-month layoff due to a serious hand injury. After qualifying 14th best in the stout 25-car field, he started and finished second in his 10-lap heat race on the lightning-quick half-mile clay oval. With his injured hand passing the stress test and feeling fine, it was then time to turn on the talent in the A main. For the main event, Roa rolled off from the 13th position in the 30-lap race. The veteran driver, who won the 2019 USAC Southwest Series championship, had his work cut out for him. Once the race began, he found himself embroiled in a wild, crowd-pleasing mid-pack battle. In the second half of the race, he got into a groove and began passing car after car. When the Steve Russell checkered flag ended the affair, Roa was one of the fastest cars on the track, and he had moved all the way up to fifth. He passed more cars than any other driver and was rewarded with the Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award. Despite the fact that it was his first full race since last Memorial Day weekend when he finished third in the Salute to Indy at Perris, and it was his first full race getting used to his new engine, the veteran driver was very impressive. With that inspiring performance under his belt, Roa is ready for more this Saturday.   A QUICK INTERVIEW WITH "THE CADILLAC," CODY WILLIAMS

  (Perris, CA, April 2, 2025) When the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series rolls back into Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, April 5th, second-generation racer Cody Williams will be the high point driver on the grounds. In what is shaping up as a tremendous fight for the season-long title, the six highest-point drivers at Saturday's show will be separated by a mere 14 points. Spectator gates for the next round of action at the "Southern California Home of Major League Sprint Car Racing" will open at 5:00 p.m., and the edge-of-your-seat dirt track racing will begin at 7:00. Williams, who lives in Norco, California, will be the high point driver of the USAC/CRA regulars on hand for the night. While the top two spots are currently held down by drivers who spend most of the season in the Midwest, the title will be decided between So Cal drivers, and all of the contenders will be racing Saturday. On Thursday, the father of four took a few minutes off from his busy schedule to answer a handful of questions about the 2025 season. PAS: From early indications, 2025 could be a great race for the title. How excited are you to be ahead of all the series regulars going into Saturday's race? Williams: I am very excited. We are not technically leading the series, but we are leading the CRA guys. It is nice to actually be leading points. We will just keep going and see what we can do the rest of the season. Hopefully, we can stay ahead of all the guys. PAS: You have already won a sprint car title. The 2010 Victorville Speedway Sprint Car championship. What would a CRA title mean to you? Williams: It is pretty cool to have that title (Victorville) for sure. Obviously, it would be worth way more with CRA. The USAC/CRA title is definitely something we are searching for. PAS: Your dad, Rip, is a National Sprint Car Hall of Famer. He won over 100 main events and was the first-ever USAC/CRA champion in 2004. He is still involved with you and your brothers. What does he do for you when it comes to racing? Williams: He is pretty heavily involved. He makes sure the engine is in top-notch shape. That is the main thing he does. At the racetrack, we can definitely bounce stuff off of him and get the cars the best we can. PAS: The strong point of your racing is qualifying. What makes you so good at it? Williams: The main thing is, I think, I get my car comfortable. We don't race a whole lot. At the beginning of the season, right now, we have been racing quite a bit. So, it has been nice. Normally, we would race like once, maybe twice a month. I just try to get my car comfortable so it is easier to drive. Especially in the beginning of the night when the track is a bit wetter. A little bit tackier. It seems to suit my setup pretty good. PAS: You were on Dave Stall's Racer Radio Show on Sunday, and you mentioned that you are looking for sponsors, or you may have to miss some races. What is the deal with that? Williams: We are definitely looking for some more sponsors. We are still short (financially) to finish out the year. We have been searching. If anybody can give a little bit, that would really help get us through the season. We are short about seven or eight races right now. Winning at Perris this weekend would definitely help. We need to keep doing what we are doing and start picking up some wins. That will help us get through part of the season. We would need a little more help to get us through the rest of the way. PAS: Two of your main competitors for the championship are your younger brothers, Austin and Logan. How hard is it to race against them, and do you race them differently than you do anybody else? Wiliams: It is definitely a little nerve-wracking, as we are brothers. Especially with my dad, too. If one of us screws another one of us over, it does not go over well with him. We all do this for fun. We are not like the back east guys where everyone is doing it for a living. It is a different way of racing out here, as we all do it for fun. The last race at Perris, me and Austin were giving slide jobs back and forth. That was a lot of fun. Austin gave me plenty of room, and I gave him plenty of room. We did not do any crappy slide jobs where we plowed into the side of each other. Logan is the same way. He always gives me plenty of room, and I give him plenty of room. It is actually nerve-wracking and fun is what I am trying to get out. PAS: You are a third-generation racer. Your six-year-old son, Little Rip, is the first of the fourth generation to take part in racing. Tell us about him. Williams: Yes, he has been racing up at John Aden's track (Wheel2Wheel Raceway in Victorville) in the speedway sprints they run up there. He is doing really good. He finished third in the last race. He was really happy about that and for getting a trophy. It has been fun watching him getting better and better. He did like four or five races last year. Every race he goes out, he seems to be getting better. I can't wait until he can get into something a little bigger and a little faster.   PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY TO REDUCE CAR SPEEDS FOR SAFETY

  (Perris, CA, April 1, 2025) Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian has unveiled a comprehensive plan aimed at enhancing the safety of racing by implementing speed reduction measures. The initiative, which is set to commence at this Saturday's sprint car and stock car show, will introduce new speed limits that must be adhered to by all drivers. The plan stipulates that drivers who exceed the newly established speed limits will face penalties. These penalties will include the addition of weight to their cars or the use of different tire compounds, which are intended to reduce the speed and performance of their cars. This measure is designed to ensure that races are conducted at safer speeds, thereby reducing the risk of accidents and enhancing overall safety for drivers and spectators alike. Safety improvements continue to evolve as innovation advances in racing. The same can be said of speed. The cars continually get faster. Kazarian had been thinking of ways to make things safer for drivers without adding additional costs for car owners for quite some time. The speed limit idea came to him a couple of weeks ago and he has diligently been working to have everything in place for this Saturday's race. "I have been wanting to make racing safer for a long time," Kazarian said. " Everything I came up with seemed like it was gonna' cost the car owners a lot of extra money. Even at the bottom levels, this sport is very expensive. The other night, when I was lying in bed unable to sleep and staring at the ceiling, it hit me. Establish a speed limit. I was so excited; I woke up my wife to tell her about it. She told me to go back to sleep and tell her in the morning." Once the idea hit, Kazarian had to find ways to enforce the new rule. Simply eyeballing a car when it went down the straightaway would not work. So, he took a trip to the swap meet in Tijuana and picked up a radar system and a light bar. "I picked up a trick radar system that will fit comfortably in a sprint car and a light bar to mount on the top of the cage," said the longtime promoter. "They are both made by the Acme Electronics Company. I tested both of them and they work very well. They are ready to work on Saturday, and some drivers are going to be in for a surprise when they are caught." Mounting the light bar on top of the cage was no problem at all. It features your standard police special red and blue beacons. However, it is obviously smaller than you see on a police car on the street. Once the radar detects a car traveling too fast, the red and blue lights will be activated to warn the driver. The offending driver will not be immediately penalized. He will be given two laps to comply unless he is detected after the white flag. In that case, he has to slow down immediately. What may have seemed like the hardest part was the thought of who would wheel the car with the radar and beacon. However, Kazarian pointed out, it was really not hard at all. "When I had the idea of who would wheel the car, I immediately thought of one driver," Kazarian said. "It was Jeff Dyer. In addition to racing sprint cars, he is a longtime California Highway Patrol officer. Who would be better to fill the bill of catching speeders?" Dyer, who lives in Yucca Valley, has raced open-wheel cars for over a decade. He began and still races lightning sprint cars, where he has posted several wins. He has also been racing 410 sprint cars for quite some time. "I was excited to get Don's call," said the driver of the yellow #39 sprint car and the #4 lightning sprint. "The toughest part will be the radar gun. Handling it while racing simultaneously is going to be a challenge. Especially getting the radar mounted. We have a couple of ideas we plan on trying." While looking for speeders in the sprint cars, Dyer will also be competing. However, with the stock cars, the senior and young gun sprints, he will only be patrolling, and looking for the law breakers like he does on the California freeway system. In addition, he will be on patrol and doing his duty at the Nights of Destruction featuring figure 8 races, figure 8 trailer races (he will not be required to pull a trailer), mini stocks, demo cross, and double deckers. "Don never said anything about having to do it at Night of Destruction," Dyer commented. "I had not planned on that. I need to discuss that with him a bit further. Perhaps he will let me use his truck on those nights, as I sure do not want to waste a racecar." When asked what the drivers and owners thought of this new idea, Kazarian said, "Except for Jeff, when they read this, it will be the first time they have heard of it. I am sure word will travel fast." The speed limits for the sprint car and stock cars will be posted on the PAS website (www.perrisautospeedway.com) and the Facebook page on Thursday or Friday. Additionally, all aspects, including speed limits, will be discussed at the driver's meetings on Saturday. "Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, and we will explain everything to the fans before cars are on the track."   AFTER A SEVEN-WEEK DELAY, PASSCAR SUPER STOCKS WILL MAKE 2025 SEASON DEBUT SATURDAY AT PERRIS

  (Perris, CA, March 31, 2025) After a seven-week delay necessitated by a rainout on February 15th, the PASSCAR Super Stock Series will make its much-anticipated 2025 season debut this Saturday night, April 5th, at Perris Auto Speedway. The fastest stock cars at the track will be joined by the PASSCAR Factory Stocks, PAS Senior & Young Gun Sprints, and the headlining Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, promising fans an action-packed night of racing. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Early-arriving fans will be treated to half-price Budweiser Beer and two for the price of one Pepsi's until 6:00. At 7:00, Steve Russell will officially commence the racing with his green flag, signaling the start of an exhilarating evening of high-speed thrills. Last season in the super stock class, Yucaipa's Chuck Becker and Billy Griffin of Buena Park tied for the championship. Over the years at the track that celebrated its 29th anniversary on Sunday, Becker and Griffin have each won four track championships. Becker is ready to launch his bid for title #5 on Saturday. On Monday, Griffin texted from an airport in Japan, where he was waiting to return home from vacation, that he was not sure if his car would be ready for Saturday night. Another driver returning on Saturday is Rick Arringdale. The Victorville resident was the PAS Stock Car champion in 1999 and 2001. He made a return to The PAS for one race in 2024. On September 21st, he shook off the rust and raced in the super stock class. He finished ninth after starting the 20-lap main event in 10th. Arringdale plans to have a busier season in 2025 and is looking to purchase a street stock car. Among the other drivers expected to race on Saturday are 2023 super stock champion Ricky Lee of Banning, 2022 titlist Tyson Talkington of Riverside, 2014 champ Blaine Whitson of Temecula, the father and son team of Mike and Tyler Gitmed from Chino, Tom Davis of Riverside, Canyon lake's Tom Wesolowski, and Beaumont's Steve Welch. For the PASSCAR Factory Stocks, PAS Senior & Young Gun Sprints, and the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, it will be the second rodeo for each at The PAS in 2025. Canyon Lake's David Lee, a two-time Factory Stock champion, and James Keller of Crestline are tied for the Factory Stock point lead. Stites won the season-opening main event on March 1st, and Keller placed second. However, based on a better heat race finish, Keller is tied for the point lead with Stites going into Saturday. Sixty-five-year-old Bob Suchy of Tustin opened the defense of his 2024 PAS Senior championship with a win on March 1st. On the same night, teenager Jake McKee took home the winner's hardware in the Young Gun Sprint Car main. Both are expected to head their respective fields on Saturday.   NARC HEAD TO OCEAN SPEEDWAY ON FRIDAY FOR THE SPRINT CAR "SPRING FLING" RACE

  (3/31/25 - Andrew Kunas) Watsonville, CA … After a few weeks off, the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series returns to action when it opens the month of April with a Friday night showdown at Ocean Speedway on April 4th. Friday's Spring Fling is the first of a series-high five races scheduled at the ¼-mile Watsonville, California clay oval, which has long been a staple on the NARC tour. This comes after just one NARC race was held in Watsonville last year, when eventual series champion Justin Sanders picked up the big Howard Kaeding Classic victory in July. In 2025, race fans in the Monterey Bay area will be treated to much more winged 410 sprint car action, and it begins Friday night. NARC was scheduled to also race this Saturday, April 5th at the Stockton Dirt Track, where the series opened its season on March 8th, but a recent electrical fire at the San Joaquin Fairgrounds has left the facility unsafe to use for at least the next couple of weeks, forcing the cancellation of Saturday's event. Hanford driver D.J. Netto, with his win at Stockton in March, is the NARC points leader going into Friday's event with a four-point advantage over Shane Golobic of Fremont. Netto knows Ocean Speedway well as he is also a former feature winner there aboard the Netto Ag No. 88n. Golobic and the Matt Wood Racing No. 17w team should be competitive at Ocean Speedway as well, as they were Howard Kaeding Classic winners in Watsonville just two years ago. Justin Sanders and the Mittry Motorsports No. 2x team is also looking to bounce back in a big way after his untimely spin out while running second in the season opening race at Stockton. Sanders was battling hard, trying to pass Netto for the lead in traffic, when he spun out as he tried to pass a lapped car. He eventually finished 15th and is looking for an immediate turnaround with his Mittry Motorsports team. WHO TO WATCH One driver that many fans will be keeping an eye on this weekend is Kaleb Montgomery. The young Templeton, California driver turned in a solid performance in the NARC season opener, driving from 15th to finish fourth in the main event at Stockton. Just a couple of weeks later, Montgomery turned a lot of eyes by making the dash and then turned in an impressive fifth place finish in the main event with the High Limit Racing series at Perris Auto Speedway. The strong runs have Montgomery feeling confident as he pursues his first NARC victory aboard his Montgomery Racing No. 3. A change in philosophy by Montgomery may be a factor as well. "I'm just having fun with my family," Montgomery said last week. "I traded my goals in a race night for standards, and as long as I meet my standards, (I believe) the wins will come." Another driver and team due to hit it big is Jacksonville, Oregon's Tanner Holmes and the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21 team, who are running a partial schedule together. After difficulties in the NARC season opener at Stockton, the team found success during High Limit's run through California in March, with Holmes earning fourth and fifth place finishes at Thunderbowl Raceway and Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway, respectively, and then running second place most of the way at Perris Auto Speedway before losing a right rear tire on a rubber down track. The Tarlton Motorsports team has long been no stranger to success with NARC, winning the series titles in 2015 and 2016, and nearly won the NARC title last year with Cole Macedo (now on the World of Outlaws tour.) A full field of sprint car teams are expected to fill the pit area. The show, which promises fun for the whole family, will feature a variety of thrilling and daring events. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM, allowing early arrivers to get the best seats and enjoy pre-show activities. The first crash is scheduled to take place at 7:05, kicking off an evening of exhilarating entertainment. The competition, known for its exhilarating chaos and intense rivalries, took an unexpected turn when the top three finishers were disqualified due to rules infractions. The violations that led to their disqualification were quite varied and surprising: one car had four-wheel drive, another was equipped with chains, and the third did not have a boat or prop on its trailer. These infractions were significant enough to alter the outcome of the race dramatically.   EDDIE TAFOYA JR. HAS A DIFFERENT NIGHT AT THE PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY SPRINT CAR OPENER

  (Chino, CA, March 6, 2025) Three weeks after it was initially planned, Perris Auto Speedway finally hosted its first Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car race of the 2025 season last Saturday night. One of the racers in the challenging 25-car field was Eddie Tafoya Jr. The veteran driver had a good start to the night before a crazy faux pas saw him end up 13th in the main event. As always, Tafoya, 27, was in the stunningly beautiful #51T that stands out from the rest of the cars in the pit area. Time trials saw the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year stop the clocks at 16.668 on the cold, windy night. That was the seventh quickest time of the evening on the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval. That put him inside the second row in the first heat race. Tafoya steered the Rider Racing Engine/DRC to a third-place finish in the tough 10-lapper. Tafoya's third-place finish in the heat garnered him the same inside row two starting spot for the 30-lap main event. It also gave the team high hopes for Perris' first sprint feature of the 2025 campaign. However, he mysteriously started to slip backward early in the race. "I finally put together the first half of the night and put myself in a good position," Tafoya lamented. "I took the green flag and actually my lap belt popped loose. I have never had that happen. So, I did not even think about stopping, I was just thinking about not coming out (of the car). Unfortunately, it took seven laps or whatever it was to get to a caution so I could fix it. By that time I was in eighth." "After that, I was just messing around with people too long. My car was missing the setup a little bit. Kind of deceiving (the track) when we run with the hobby stocks and stuff like that. It definitely wasn't tight enough (the car) and the seat belt coming loose did not help at all. It all just kind of fell apart really quick." Tafoya, who first raced at Perris when he won the track's Young Gun Sprint Car title in 2018, ended up in a very entertaining mid pack battle. The cars involved in that war see-sawed back and forth as they jockeyed for position in the 30-lapper. In the end, he came out with a disappointing, but hard earned, 13th place finish. "I do, but starting up front it was pretty frustrating not staying up there," Tafoya answered when queried if he likes racing in a tight pack. "I really didn't enjoy it too much while going backwards. It was definitely hard racing back there. Once you get hard racing mid-pack, you get slid and try to turn down, and there are two or three guys there with you. Stuff starts happening pretty quick." Things can happen quickly as Tafoya said, but, like usual, the smooth racer rolled his immaculate car into the hauler at the end of the chilly evening. Despite not racing for points, Tafoya is ranked eighth after two races in the USAC/CRA Series. With the exception of planning to compete in all of the Perris races, Tafoya does not have a set schedule in 2025. The team will race when it wants to. A lot depends on his parents' work schedule, and how many jobs his father has lined up. If things work out, he hopes to head to Indiana this year to race with the USAC National Sprint Car Series.   AFTER A LONG LAYOFF, BRODY ROA SCORES AN IMPRESSIVE 5TH PLACE FINISH IN HIS RETURN TO PERRIS

  (Cypress, CA, March 5, 2025) After more than six months out of the saddle, Southern California sprint car racing star Brody Roa finally returned to action when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Series made its first 2025 appearance at Perris Auto Speedway last Saturday night. The veteran racer looked like he had not missed a day as he started 13th and drove all the way to fifth to capture the Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award. Roa, who suffered a bad cut to his fingers last October, said he never noticed the injuries. That included using the repaired hand to pull tear offs and adjust his shocks in the heat of the battle. After qualifying 14th fastest in the 25-car field, Roa, who makes his home in Garden Grove, California, improved throughout the night. Starting on the outside of the front row in the second heat race of the Perris sprint car season opener, Roa steered his bright green #91R to a second place finish in the 10-lapper. "It felt pretty good," Roa happily stated about getting back in the car after the layoff. "It took a bit of time to get going. I would say my track record as a qualifier is not very good. After taking what felt like a year off did not help. I kind of started the night getting back into the swing of it. We were getting our new engine tuned in and we made improvements all night." Even though the 2023 USAC/CRA Series champion ran well in his heat race, the qualifying time was still going to hamper his effort in the main event. He was starting from the inside of row seven in the 23 car field, 30 lap main event. That meant he was going to have to pass a lot of cars to get a decent finishing position. As is usually the case at Perris, the main event was a war! Roa was one of several drivers in a wild mid-pack battle for most of the race before he really began to roll forward. "I knew what we had to do, we were going to have to pass cars," Roa recalled. "Starting there, I was with, behind and around a few cars I really did not want to spend much time around. I knew we were better than where we were starting. I did not get the best of starts and it felt like I fell back to 17th or 18th the first couple of laps. I got stuck behind the #73 on the bottom before I could get up to the top and get some momentum. I just wanted to get forward and get up to the guys who I knew had some speed. In the last 1/3 of the race I got there. I felt we had some pretty good speed with them. We were a little behind on the set up for the feature. We were to free at the end to do anything once we got there." Roa used the DRC Chassis he drove to the championship in 2023. His uncle purchased the engine for the car last year. He only got about half a race with it last September before being knocked out of the action due to a crash at the Santa Maria Speedway. Despite being a little off on the gearing at the start of the night, the team tweaked on it and it got better. That gives the veteran driver more confidence regarding setup heading into his next race in four weeks. Roa will return to action when the USAC/CRA Series returns to Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday, April 5th. That gives him some extra time off. His wife Tailor just bought the family a new toy hauler and they plan to make good use of it. So where will Roa, Tailor and their two daughters head to before he returns on the 5th? "We are actually taking it to Lake Perris (which is adjacent to the track) on the High Limit Series weekend," Roa laughed. We are going to come out and watch them. That will be fun."   BRODY ROA IS STILL CHOMPING AT THE BIT TO RETURN TO ACTION AT SATURDAY'S PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY OPENER

  (Cypress, CA, February 28, 2025) After getting rained out two weeks ago, veteran sprint car driver Brody Roa is anxiously looking forward to Saturday night when he races in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series at Perris Auto Speedway's 29th sprint car/stock car season opener. Saturday will be Roa's first race since September 1st of last year at Santa Maria. The saga began when Roa was ready to load up his sprint car for a trip to the 1/3 mile banked Mohave Valley Raceway oval last October. A track where he scored one of his most memorable wins by coming from 11th to first to win the 30-lap main event in May of 2023. It was his third win in a row and his fifth of eight on his way to the USAC/CRA title. Needless to say, he was looking forward to his trip over the Colorado River last October before disaster set in when he seriously cut his fingers. The injury cost the veteran driver a handful of season-ending races. He had the car ready to go and was about to push it into the trailer when the injury happened. It painfully brought his season to a sudden end. "It was at home," Roa recollected of the scary night. "I cut my pinky, my ring finger, and my middle finger to where it got the tendons and the arteries. I had to go through a 5 ½ hour surgery to get them all repaired." Fortunately, the surgery went well. Roa returned to work after a week, and soon after the holidays, the doctor cleared him, and he was ready to get back to a normal life. "He was really happy with what he saw and told me to go ahead and live my life again," the Garden Grove, California resident said. "I went to physical therapy for a couple of weeks and she (the therapist) told me I was pretty much good and there was no real need to keep coming back there. They were both really happy with how my healing went. The physical therapist told me this was probably the best and quickest heal she has seen on so many damaged fingers. I am really happy with it, and it feels really good." As he had the car ready to go when the home accident occurred, there was not much to do on it to get it ready for this Saturday's race. Other than keeping it dusted off, the only thing he did over the winter was install a water heater on it to heat the engine. Unlike his championship season two years ago and about a dozen years prior, this season will be different. All weekends on the track and endless nights in the garage will be a thing of the past. While he will be in it to win it on race nights, he, his wife Tailor, and young daughters Addie and Rylie will have fun away from the track. "We are not doing any points stuff," he confirmed. "We are going to keep it simple this year and just hit the nearby races at Perris. Tailor just bought a new toy hauler. We are going to take that out on its maiden voyage next weekend. Tailor loves Calistoga and I love Calistoga. We might plan on getting up there for that deal as long as our engine runs good enough at Perris. It is going to be a fluid schedule this year. We will run when we feel like it, and we will have some fun." The crew situation for 2025 will be the usual family deal. "It is the same guys we have had for 12-years now," Roa stated. "My dad is my main guy. He lets me make the calls throughout the night and get the car ready. But he always gets me steered in the right direction. We will also have my Uncle B, my wife, daughters, my mom and my friend Joe Gibb when he can make it." While Roa's plans are set around the Perris races and the Labor Day weekend doubleheader at Calistoga, he will answer the phone if a car owner who is looking for a driver calls. "Yeah, I would," Roa readily answered when asked if he would accept a ride in another car. "Obviously with the family priority this year, if we had an open weekend, I am more than open to it. I will tow our trailer out and we will make a weekend of it. We will go racing and camp somewhere for a couple of days, too." To see Roa's return to action this Saturday, spectator gates at Perris Auto Speedway will open at the normal 5:00 p.m. However, racing will start 30 minutes earlier than normal at 6:30.   EDDIE TAFOYA JR. IS BACK ON HIS HOME TRACK, PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY ON SATURDAY

  (Chino, CA, February 27, 2025) For the first time in 2025 after a race, Eddie Tafoya Jr. will finally get to sleep in his own bed this Saturday night when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars visit Perris Auto Speedway. Last Saturday, night Tafoya recorded a well-earned fifth-place finish when the series opened its season at the Mohave Valley Raceway. That was the seventh race of the year for Tafoya with the first six being in Florida before last week's battle in Arizona. Starting the 30-lap main event in the 10th position on the 1/3 of a mile banked clay oval, Tafoya came charging in the final third of the race. Running around the ninth and 10th place spots through the halfway point, late in the affair the 27-year-old driver came on like a champion boxer in the late rounds. He steered the gorgeous #51T into seventh on lap 18. Manning the low line, he was still in seventh on lap 26, but picked off two more spots to place fifth The result gave Tafoya his third top-10 finish in six lifetime starts at Mohave. It was his best performance at the track since he came home third in his first race at the facility on April 23, 2022. Earlier in the night, getting to the A main took some extra work for the talented Chino Hills, California driver. He qualified 10 fastest with a 14.303. However, it came at a cost! The torque ball backed off during qualifying forcing the crew to change the entire torque tube and bell housing. In doing so, Tafoya was forced to miss his heat race while the crew thrashed on the car. With the repairs made, Tafoya started on the outside of row one in the 12-lap B main. He had to finish in the top six to transfer into the 30-lap A. He did that with room to spare by placing third and earning his e-ticket to drive in the 30-lap war. The fifth-place finish also sees Tafoya sitting in fifth in the series championship standings coming into the Perris race. The likeable driver will only be 19-points out of first place when he drives through the pit gate in the afternoon. In 2024, Tafoya started nine races at Perris. He had six top 10 finishes.   AFTER AN UNCEREMONIOUS END AT MOHAVE, JEFF DYER IS READY FOR SATURDAY AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY

  (Yucca Valley, CA, February 27, 2025) After an earlier-than-wanted exit from the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series season opener at the Mohave Valley Raceway last weekend, Jeff Dyer has made repairs and will be ready for round #2 of the series this Saturday, March 1st, at Perris Auto Speedway. It will be his first race at Perris since a nasty turn two crash at the track left him with a broken arm and a concussion last July. Driving the Dyer Motorsports/Cal Smith Racing #39 at Mohave, Dyer, who resides in Yucca Valley, California, was one of the 31 cars on hand on the banked 1/3 of a mile oval. The popular driver, who is a California Highway Patrol Officer when he is not sliding around clay racetracks, timed in 18th fastest with a lap of 14.679. That lap put Dyer on the front row of the second 10-lap heat race of the night. Things started well enough in the heat, but they did not end the way the veteran racer wanted. "We qualified decent and were in a transfer spot in the heat race," Dyer sighed. "The car started missing real bad so we pulled it in. We thought the mag. went bad. We tried to change the ignition box, but we had no luck as we did not have enough time between the heat race and the semi. So, we went back out and tried to limp it into a transfer." The hope of limping it into a transfer in the B was quickly dashed. Dyer got involved in what he called "a little incident" that ended up with him getting the yellow #39 upside down. The flip could have been a lot worse. It broke the right rear bird cage and the shock arm. That was it and as Dyer happily chimed, "it was not too bad." From his garage on Wednesday night, Dyer was wrapping up the maintenance on the car so it would be ready for Saturday's "Dirt War" at Perris. While the tangle ended his night, Dyer was happy with the first race on his refreshed engine. "The engine ran really good early on," he said. "We think it was an electrical problem. We put a new ignition box in it so that should hopefully solve the issue." After Saturday at Perris, Dyer will return to USAC/CRA and SoCal Lightning Sprint races on March 14th and 15th during the California Mid-Winter Fair at the Imperial Valley Raceway. It will be rounds #3 & 4 for the USAC/CRA Series. The races will be the opening two events for the SCLS and Dyer's first lightning competition since a second place finish in a California Lightning Sprint Car Series race last October at Ventura. "I am planning on doing it at Imperial," he said of racing his 410 and his lightning sprint at the Mid-Winter Fair. "I really have not had time to work on the lightning sprint yet, but it is pretty much ready to go. I have just been real busy."   JAKE SWANSON RETURNS HOME TO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

  (Perris, CA, February 26, 2025) Fresh off a win in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series at the Mohave Valley Raceway last Saturday night, Southern California native Jake Swanson plans on being in three places when he jets back to the "Golden State" this week. Those three places are the drive-through window at an In N' Out Burgers, Mexican restaurants, and, most importantly, the victory circle at Perris Auto Speedway. The past Anaheim resident, who is now based out of Indiana, will be taking on the stars from the USAC/CRA series for the second week in a row. In addition to the powerful 410 sprint cars, the PAS Senior and Young Gun Sprints will also be in action along with the PASSCAR Street Stocks and Factory Stocks. Saturday's show will be the first sprint car race at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval since last November. Three weeks ago, on February 8th, the series was slated to open its 21st season at the track. However, persistent rain heading into that date left the infield looking like a mini version of nearby Lake Perris. That left track and series officials with no choice but to postpone the race, which will now be made up on November 1st. At Mohave, 31-year-old Swanson drove for the powerhouse Inland Rigging Team owned by Tom and Christy Dunkel. He will drive the same #17X car this week. It will be on the track where he cut his sprint car teeth when he captured the USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year title 13 years ago and where he scored his first USAC National Sprint Car Series win in an Oval Nationals preliminary in 2021. "They definitely have some of the best equipment out there," said Swanson, who first steered an Inland Rigging car for the Dunkel's in 2024. "He has put together a world-class operation when it comes to a sprint car team. They have the right people in place. The people who maybe do not have all of the experience are being trained in the right way. It is really cool to be a part of a program for somebody who really, genuinely cares about seeing it succeed and they are willing to do whatever it takes to do it in the right way." "They have entrusted me to work on the car a lot, and they have entrusted Jimmy May and Charlie Butcher to work on the cars. They have done a great job in training Aiden (the Dunkel's son). He is a young kid, but he is learning really, really quick. To see the amount of notes he makes when I am in town is pretty impressive. There are a handful of others, and everybody works really hard." "I couldn't be more excited," Swanson enthused about coming back to race where his sprint car career started. "I always love coming back to Perris. I always tell people that, in my opinion, it is the greatest racetrack in the country. It puts on some of the greatest races in all of the country. The fans are lucky to have that and watch the CRA stuff. I just wish we could share it to more of the country." While the quick trip west will mostly be about racing, Swanson has some yens to settle while in the Southland. "I pretty much have a strict diet of tacos and In N' Out in California," he laughed when asked what he looks forward to when he returns to So Cal. "I love the beach, but I don't get there very often. The Mexican food is definitely top tier on my list." Swanson, who is as busy off the track as he is on, plans to contest the entire USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series in 2025. He got off to a fine start in that series two weeks ago in Florida. In six races, driving his own car that features Inland Rigging as its prime sponsor, he placed in the top 10 five times with a best finish at the Ocala Speedway on the 12th. The results will see him eighth in points when the series picks up at Indiana's Paragon Speedway on April 4th. As well as racing in the National Sprint Car Series, Swanson will steer a car owned by past racer and noted car builder Bob East in the USAC Silver Crown Series. His first run in that car will come at the Terre Haute Action Track on April 13th. And when time permits, much to the chagrin of the USAC/CRA regulars, he will be back in the Inland Rigging #17X whenever he can get a break from his busy National schedule. That includes this Saturday at Perris, and the March 14th and 15th series show during the California Mid-Winter Fair at the Imperial Valley Raceway. In addition to 50-plus nights of National Sprint Cars and the Silver Crown ride, Swanson also hopes to get in some wing racing this year. He still does not have anything ironed out yet, but he has some plans in the works to do that.   (Warner Springs, CA, February 21, 2025) After rain destroyed his plans on contesting Perris Auto Speedway's 29th season opener last weekend, "Shugah'" Shane Sexton is headed for Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway for Saturday's Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series opening race of 2025. Spectator gates at the 1/3 of a mile banked clay oval will open at 3:30 and the first race will be two hours later at 5:30. After last week's disappointment, Sexton, who lives in Warner Springs, California, is chomping at the bit to get on the track in Arizona on Saturday. It will be his fifth appearance at Mohave. In 2022, he made his initial showings on the track in a pair of USAC/CRA races. He made the A main event each time. In April, he was 12th in the A. Six months later he finished 17th. "Shugah's" last appearance at the track was in 2023. Unfortunately, he finished 11th in the B main that night. Sexton and the crew tested at Perris three weeks ago. The car, which is the same one he drove last year, worked perfectly, and had more power than previous times on the track. With that in mind, the countdown is on for Saturday's race. One difference in Sexton's camp this week will be with his crew chief/father, Stan, who will be absent from the race due to work. Sexton has enlisted the help of fellow sprint car driver Mark Henry to help call the shots. A week from Saturday, March 1st, Sexton will haul the beautiful #74 to Perris Auto Speedway for his second race of the year.   EDDIE TAFOYA JR. IS BACK ON THE ROAD TO ARIZONA

  (Chino, CA, February 21, 2025) In the last three weeks, sprint car racer Eddie Tafoya Jr. has only been home for three days. Most of the time away he was on the road driving to the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car races in Florida and then turning around and heading back to his Chino Hills, California home. Saturday morning, he will be back on the road for the 240-mile trek to Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway for the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series 21st season opener. Tafoya, 27, faced a grueling schedule racing six straight nights in the "Sunshine State." The first two evenings were at the Volusia Speedway Park. He followed those races with four nights of high-speed competition at the Ocala Speedway. While fast the first three nights, including the ninth quickest time in qualifying at the Volusia opener, the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year missed the transfer from the B to the A main by one spot two times. Things fared better for Tafoya and the #51T in the final three races at Ocala when he made the A main each time. "It was good," Tafoya commented on his Florida trip. "We came out of the gate swinging. We were 10th in hot laps and ninth in qualifying (at the first race at Volusia). I found myself one spot out every time I was on the track whether it was a heat race or a B main. At Ocala, I missed the first night (main). We took what we learned and put it towards the next nights and made the next three mains. So, that was good." Making the main event at Ocala can be tough on someone who does not have a lot of laps on the track. Tafoya fits that bill well, having only raced on the track two times previously in 2023. The track is an odd shape and its two ends are totally different. "It is definitely awkward, I guess you could say," Tafoya spoke about Ocala. "One and two is real sweeping and bouncy. Three and four is more you have to pitch it sideways and drive off. You have to get in tune with the track and get in tune to what your car is going to do." Tafoya and his father, past sprint car racer Eddie Tafoya Sr., started the cross-country return trip home last Sunday and arrived at their Chino Hills residence at about 9:30 on Wednesday. By Thursday, it was back in the shop to prepare the car for this weekend's battle in Arizona. "Luckily, I kept my nose clean while we were out there," Tafoya happily said. "So, just normal maintenance for this week. "Washing and stuff like that. We should be getting it turned around here quickly. We were in a good spot (performance-wise) when we left off. So, we should not have to do too much." Racing against the national series drivers pits Tafoya against the best traditional racers in the world. Competing with them fine-tunes his performances for when he races in the West. One of the differences he notes racing against the national drivers is you cannot wait. If you do, you are going to pay. "It is definitely different," Tafoya said when comparing the national vs western drivers. "Here, you kind of feel everyone out and see what they are going to do and where they are going to go. If you do that there, they are going to be gone. There is no catching them. There is no downtime to figure anything out. You have just got to go." "We have some good momentum coming in and I just need to keep driving like I did there," the well-spoken driver said. "If I do, we should be in a good spot. I think we will have a good show at Mohave. We are usually a real good car out of the box when we get there. I think the only times I have not run good there is when I have had motor issues." In six previous races at Mohave, Tafoya's best finish was a third-place result in April of 2023. In three appearances at the Arizona dirt track in 2024, his best outing was a sixth in April. The Florida trip saw the drivers on the track for seven consecutive nights. A night of practice at Ocala before racing six nights in a row. However, the team had a little bit of time for some fun. "Luckily, we got there two days early, so we went to the Supercross race in Tampa," Tafoya laughed. "We did a gator boat one morning and some local stuff when we had some time. We were staying on the beach at Daytona, so it was just kind of nice to hang out, relax, and get ready for the week."   GRANT SEXTON OPENS HIS 2025 SEASON SATURDAY AT THE MOHAVE VALLEY RACEWAY

  (Lakeside, CA, February 20, 2022) Grant Sexton, the 2023 Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series Rookie of the Year, will launch his 2024 racing campaign this Saturday night, February 22nd, when the series visits Arizona's Mojave Valley Raceway. His father, Brent, who finished third in last year's Rookie of the Year chase, has been forced out of this weekend's race due to a mechanical issue. Grant, who will turn 21 in July, is looking to rebound from a hard sophomore year in the toughest non-wing sprint car series west of the Mississippi. In his Rookie of the Year season, he had four top-10 finishes and one top-five. His best finish that year was a fifth at Bakersfield on June 24th. Last season, he was plagued by bad luck throughout the USAC/CRA campaign. Several occasions saw him being in the wrong place at the wrong time and getting tangled up in somebody else's mess. Thus, he only placed in the top-10 once. That was a sixth at Perris. The tough year saw the third-generation racer, who placed eighth in the 2023 standings, end up 16th in 2024. In his Rookie of the Year run, Sexton made two starts on the banked Mohave Valley 1/3 of a mile clay oval that is located about five minutes from the Colorado River. The first one was on May 6th, and he placed sixth. Five months later he ended up 20th. Last April at Mohave, he finished third in his heat on the "Copper State" track. In the 30-lap main, he put on the best show of the night. After starting 21st, the talkative driver sliced and diced his way up to 11th on the tricky surface. That earned him the Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger award for passing more cars than any other driver in the race. Unfortunately, things did not go quite so well at last year's late-season Western World Championships on the Arizona track. Persistent brake problems plagued his #22 car both nights. He finished 26th on Friday and 23rd on Saturday. The young but experienced veteran driver fared better in the inaugural season of the Inland Rigging Ultimate Sprint Car Series in 2024. He made six starts and recorded four top ten finishes. Amongst them were fifth and third place results. Despite running a limited schedule with the new series, he ended up 12th in points. This weekend was supposed to be the first time Grant's father, Brent, would race a 410 sprint car. The three-time lightning sprint car champion drove a 360-powered car in his rookie season with USAC/CRA in 2024. However, his new 410 stuck a valve when they bumped the car off on Monday. He will miss this week's show but hopes to be ready for the March 1st race at Perris.   JEFF DYER RETURNS TO MOHAVE VALLEY RACEWAY WITH USAC/CRA THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

  (Yucca Valley, CA, February 19, 2025) After the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA season opener was rained out last Saturday night at Perris Auto Speedway, Jeff Dyer will return to the site of his best night in sprint car racing, the Mohave Valley Raceway, this Saturday, February 22nd. Four months ago, competing in the best 410 traditional sprint car field assembled in the west last year, the racing California Highway Patrol Officer made both main events in the prestigious 57th Western World Sprint Car Championship. While last week's rainout frustrated many, it benefited Yucca Valley, California-based Dyer. The veteran driver was nervously awaiting his engine which was being freshened up and was supposed to be delivered on Friday. The plan when he went to bed on Thursday night was to get up early and install it on Saturday morning and then head to the track. However, the famous half-mile oval was saturated after heavy rains, and track officials were forced to pull the plug on the season opener. That gave Dyer some extra time to do the install before this week's race. Needless to say, after making both Western World mains at Mohave in November, Dyer is excited to hit the banked 1/3 mile clay oval this week. And not just because he did so well there in the Western World. "I am excited about going back there for a few reasons," the friendly driver said Wednesday night. "We did run very well there last time. Also, at the end of the year, I still wasn't 100 percent. I was about 60% better. Now for not doing anything the last few months, my body is feeling better and I am just excited to get the year going. It has been kind of a long off-season, but it allowed me to heal up a little bit more. I probably rushed it a bit last year." Dyer is referring to the nasty crash he was injured in at Perris last July 13th. A car ahead of him began flipping and landed on Dyer's cage while he was trying to avoid the mayhem. The blow knocked the former United States Army Demolitions Expert out cold. Unconsciously, his foot hit the throttle pedal and launched him head-on into the wall. The result was a broken arm and a bad concussion. "I am probably 95 to 100% now," said the driver nicknamed "Ponch" after the CHiP'S character. "Every now and then, I have some trouble with my elbow. It kind of flares up like I have tendinitis every now and then. My grip is back to normal, and my strength is a lot better." As usual, the 2025 season will be a busy one for Dyer. In addition to racing in the USAC/CRA Series, he plans to run his lightning sprint when the schedule permits. After Saturday's sojourn to the Copper State, he will return to Perris on Saturday, March 1st. After a week off, USAC/CRA heads to the Imperial Valley Raceway on March 14 and 15. In addition, there is the possibility that the SoCal Lightning Sprint Car Series will be racing on the same program at Imperial. If that is the case, Dyer will race in both classes. The following weekend, the busy schedule will continue its feverish pace when the California Lightning Sprints, Presented by Motor City GMC, will kick off their campaign on the same card as the Kubota High Limit Sprint Cars on the Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway. "We are going to hit the ground running and hopefully have a great season," Dyer concluded. Adult tickets for Saturday's race at Mohave Valley, which is located five minutes from the Colorado River and 20 minutes from downtown Laughlin, Nevada, are $25.00. Kids tickets are $15.00 and children 5 and under are free. Parking is free. Spectator gates will open at 3:30 on Saturday and the first race will take the green flag at 5:30.   (Perris, CA, February 17, 2025) After suffering a K.O. loss to Mother Nature last Saturday night, Perris Auto Speedway is ready to open its 29th season this Saturday, February 22nd, when LKQ Pick Your Part presents the "Craziest Show On Dirt," Night of Destruction. Spectator gates for the crash-filled night of racing and clean family fun will open at 5:00 p.m., and the first crash of the night will happen at 7:00. The famous Riverside County speed plant was all set to open the 2025 campaign last Saturday night with a show headlined by the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and the PASSCAR Stock Car classes. However, rains on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday left the infield of the track looking like a miniature version of Lake Michigan and forced the cancelation of the highly anticipated racing program. Thus, this week's Night of Destruction will kick off the new season on Saturday. "Our hopes were high that we could get last week's show in," promoter Don Kazarian said. "With the rain we had on Thursday being persistent and so heavy, we took a look at the pit area when we got here on Friday morning and knew there was no way we could get the show in." "While we were looking forward to opening the year with sprint cars and stock cars, we are equally excited to open this Saturday with LKQ Pick Your Part Night of Destruction," he continued. "It is always a great show that pleases everyone in the family from those three or four years old all the way up to the senior citizens in the crowd. The Night of Destruction show will be the same one that has become so popular over the years and appeals to everyone. On top of everything else, after the wet, cold weather that forced last week's cancelation, the weather looks phenomenal this week. The forecast high in Perris this Saturday is 78 degrees." Saturday's show will feature all five classes that have made Night of Destruction so popular.   BRODY ROA IS CHOMPING AT THE BIT TO RETURN TO ACTION AT SATURDAY'S PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY OPENER

  (Cypress, CA, February 13, 2025) It has been a long, four-month wait for Brody Roa to get back into the cramped cockpit of his powerful 410 sprint car. Weather permitting, the four-month hiatus comes to an end when he races in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series at Perris Auto Speedway's 29th season opener this Saturday, February 15th. The saga began when Roa was ready to load up his sprint car for a trip to the 1/3 mile banked Mohave Valley Raceway oval last October. A track where he scored one of his most memorable wins by coming from 11th to first to win the 30-lap main event in May of 2023. It was his third win in a row and his fifth of eight on his way to the USAC/CRA title. Needless to say, he was looking forward to his trip over the Colorado River last October before disaster set in when he seriously cut his fingers. The injury cost the veteran driver a handful of season-ending races. He had the car ready to go and was about to push it into the trailer when the injury happened. It painfully brought his season to a sudden end. "It was at home," Roa recollected of the scary night. "I cut my pinky, my ring finger, and my middle finger to where it got the tendons and the arteries. I had to go through a 5 ½ hour surgery to get them all repaired." Fortunately, the surgery went well. Roa returned to work after a week, and soon after the holidays, the doctor cleared him, and he was ready to get back to a normal life. "He was really happy with what he saw and told me to go ahead and live my life again," the Garden Grove, California resident said. "I went to physical therapy for a couple of weeks and she (the therapist) told me I was pretty much good and there was no real need to keep coming back there. They were both really happy with how my healing went. The physical therapist told me this was probably the best and quickest heal she has seen on so many damaged fingers. I am really happy with it, and it feels really good." As he had the car ready to go when the home accident occurred, there was not much to do on it to get it ready for this Saturday's race. Other than keeping it dusted off, the only thing he did over the winter was install a water heater on it to heat the engine. Unlike his championship season two years ago and about a dozen years prior, this season will be different. All weekends on the track and endless nights in the garage will be a thing of the past. While he will be in it to win it on race nights, he, his wife Tailor, and young daughters Addie and Rylie will have fun away from the track. "We are not doing any points stuff," he confirmed. "We are going to keep it simple this year and just hit the nearby races at Perris. Tailor just bought a new toy hauler. We are going to take that out on its maiden voyage next weekend. Tailor loves Calistoga and I love Calistoga. We might plan on getting up there for that deal as long as our engine runs good enough at Perris. It is going to be a fluid schedule this year. We will run when we feel like it, and we will have some fun." The crew situation for 2025 will be the usual family deal. "It is the same guys we have had for 12-years now," Roa stated. "My dad is my main guy. He lets me make the calls throughout the night and get the car ready. But he always gets me steered in the right direction. We will also have my Uncle B, my wife, daughters, my mom and my friend Joe Gibb when he can make it." While Roa's plans are set around the Perris races and the Labor Day weekend doubleheader at Calistoga, he will answer the phone if a car owner who is looking for a driver calls. "Yeah, I would," Roa readily answered when asked if he would accept a ride in another car. "Obviously with the family priority this year, if we had an open weekend, I am more than open to it. I will tow our trailer out and we will make a weekend of it. We will go racing and camp somewhere for a couple of days, too." To see Roa's return to action this Saturday, spectator gates at Perris Auto Speedway will open at the normal 5:00 p.m. However, racing will start 30 minutes earlier than normal at 6:30.   PERRIS YOUNG GUNS CHAMPION GUERRERO MAKES A BIG STEP UP TO THE USAC/CRA SPRINT CARS

  (Perris, CA, February 10, 2025) In 2013, Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian introduced the PAS Young Guns Sprint Car Series. Invented for young drivers with no prior sprint car experience, the idea was to graduate racers into the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Series. Over the years, many drivers have taken the giant leap in class, including past Young Gun Champions and now CRA regulars Logan Williams, Eddie Tafoya Jr., and Stevie Rogers. This year, another Young Guns Champion, Brecken Guerrero, is making the leap to "Big Boy Sprint Car Racing." Guerrero, a high school student who lives in Westminster, California, has been around sprint cars for most of his life. However, last year he jumped into the cockpit for the first time. At the conclusion of the season, he was crowned 2024 Young Guns champion. When Perris Auto Speedway opens its 29th season this Saturday night, Guerrero will receive a championship trophy and a champion's custom jacket. They will go along nicely with the brand-new GAS Sprint Car chassis he collected from the 2023 series sponsor. On Tuesday evening, the well-spoken teen gave a pleasant interview about his upbringing around sprint cars, his championship season, expectations for this year and the future, and his life off the track. PAS: The first obvious question is, how old are you? Guerrero: I am only 17 years old, and last year when I was racing, I was 16. I am a Junior at Marina High School down in Huntington Beach. PAS: How did you get involved in the sprint car racing world? Guerrero: Verne (veteran USAC/CRA racer Verne Sweeney) is technically my stepdad. He is my dad, and he has been around since I was three. Racing has been the love of my life ever since. I was sitting up in the grandstands and then going down to the pits. Now I am racing. We had been wanting me to go down to the pits because it would be cool to experience. We saw one of Gansen's (USAC/CRA driver Chris Gansen) kids in the pits. We talked to the owners of Perris and they said I was allowed to go down there. PAS: How old were you when you first went down there? Guerrero: Oh, shoot, I don't remember. Still in the single digits probably. I was down there spectating and cleaning it (the car). Rubbing off some mud. PAS: As a little kid, did you dream that one day you would be on the track racing? Guerrero: When I was a little kid, I seen my dad race and heard all of these great stories. I always wanted to do it. Now that I am starting to race, it is actually unbelievable. It really is. PAS: Did you race anything before last season? Guerrero: Last year was my first year racing anything. I had no micro experience. Nothing. PAS: How nerve-racking was it the first time you got in the sprint car? It is not like wheeling a used Volkswagen down the street. Guerrero: No, not at all. At first, it is a little intimidating but you kind of learn to calm down your nerves. You learn the car and it gets easier. PAS: How were your mom and Verne's nerves when you first went out? Guerrero: Oh my gosh! My mom was a nervous wreck I have to assume. Verne played it off cool and collected, but there was definitely a nervous pit crew that night. PAS: Your mom is technically your car owner, right? Guerrero: Mom is technically the car owner, yes. PAS: So, did she have any advice, like if you do not bring it back in one piece, you will not get to race it again? Guerrero: It is really mine and Verne's, but if I flipped it again, she probably would not let me drive one. So, I try to keep all four wheels on the ground. PAS: You said, "If I flipped it again." I remember you flipping, and it was rather hard. How did that happen? Guerrero: It was my second night out. It was a rookie mistake. I tried to pass a guy after the checkered flag around the top. I found out how that ends. That was from a heat race when I was in the back. You learn from it, and you move on. It is all a big learning experience. PAS: In Verne, you have a guy helping you whose family ties in racing go back over a half-century. His uncle Max Sweeney, cousins Mike Sweeney and Steve Ostling all raced, and cousin Patty married Jac Haudenschild. That has to be a tremendous help when a guy with a racing heritage like that is helping you. Guerrero: It is awesome. He basically has all of the answers. Working on the cars, he knows everything about them. When we are not working on them, just hearing the stories of Ascot and Manzanita. He is just a cool guy to be around. I have soaked so much of it in. PAS: Do you have any racing heroes besides Verne? Guerrero: Oh my gosh! I cannot even name them all! I love the old guys. Leland McSpadden, Ron Shuman, Haudenschild, and all those guys. New young heroes are Sheldon Haudenschild, Donny Schatz, Carson Macedo, David Gravel, Brady Bacon, Justin Grant. The list goes on and on. PAS: You just named some guys who retired before you were born. It sounds like you have a great sense of sprint car racing history. Guerrero: Oh yeah. With Verne, you get the full history. When I went to the Knoxville Nationals to watch this last year, I actually got to meet Ron Shuman there. That was pretty cool. PAS: I did not know you went there. Who did you go there with? Guerrero: I went with my mom. We just went to watch. Verne had to stay back here and work. So, it was just us two. PAS: A second ago you just mentioned a bunch of winged guys among your favorites. Would you someday like to race winged cars with the World of Outlaws or High Limit? Guerrero: Yeah, it would be pretty cool. Whatever chance or opportunity I get that comes my way. Hopefully, it's a good one that I could take, and it will help me down the line and make it my career. Outlaws or National (USAC) Sprint Cars. Either would be pretty cool. PAS: So, you never raced anything before and you come out and win a championship. What were your keys to victory? Guerrero: Just showing up and being consistent. In the first couple races, I just showed up and ran laps. As it got towards the end of the season, I ran a little harder and was passing people. I was finishing better, getting more laps, and being more comfortable, really. PAS: You are starting all over again on Saturday racing with the big boys. 410 Sprint Car Racing is "Big Boy Sprint Car Racing." Any trepidation or nervousness coming into it, or are you relaxed? Guerrero: I kind of understand the feel for the car now. Getting to race with a lot more people on the track that go a lot faster with a lot more experience. It is definitely a little bit more nerves. I just try to keep them under control and run my own race and do the best I can. PAS: How long do you think it will take you to get up to speed with those drivers and do you have any goals? Guerrero: Hopefully, it will not take too long. My goal is, by midseason to be able to finish comfortably in like, 13th or 14th in midfield. PAS: Thus far, we have just talked about racing. But that is not the only thing in your life. I have heard you are in the Boy Scouts and you play ice hockey. Guerrero: I am one rank away from becoming an Eagle Scout. That is pretty exciting. I started in the Cub Scouts when I think I was about five-years-old. I just kept with it all the way through Boy Scouts and now I am almost an Eagle. Going on campouts and meeting new people is really awesome. PAS: Now let's talk about my favorite sport. I hear you are a pretty fair hockey player. Guerrero: I have been playing ice hockey for eight years. I think after this season is done, I am going to be done with hockey so I can focus more on racing. Hockey is great. It gets you athletic and you meet a lot of people. It is just so fun. I play in the high school league organized by the Anaheim Ducks (NHL). A whole bunch of high schools come together to make different teams. We play in Westminster, Lakewood, Anaheim, Irvine. PAS: That is a really good league you are playing hockey in. How hard will it be for you to give it up? Guerrero: It is really fun. It will take some time to get used to having a wider schedule. I love hockey. When I get older I will probably play in an adult league just to stay with. PAS: Man you are busy! Anything else? Guerrero: Yes, I almost have a black belt in karate. I have been doing that for nine years.   ADVANCE TICKETS FOR ALL PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY 2025 EVENTS ARE ON SALE NOW

  (Perris, CA, January 27, 2025) Advance tickets for all races in the 29th season of racing at Perris Auto Speedway are available now online and via phone. This includes the Kubota High Limit Sprint Car Series PAS debut, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars, all 12 Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car/PASSCAR Stock Car Shows, and the 10 LKQ Pick Your Part Nights of Destruction. The famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval will have an expanded 14-race sprint car schedule in 2025. The High Limit show on March 22nd will be the first of two winged shows this year. The other will be on September 13th, when the World of Outlaws return to the track for the first time since 2022. Both of the winged shows will be stand-alone sprint car events. In addition to the two winged shows, the track, which has served as the Southern California home speedway for non-wing 410 sprint car racing since 1996, will host the USAC/CRA Series on 12 separate occasions. Each of those programs will include the PAS Senior and Young Gun Sprints and PASSCAR Stock Cars. The first of those programs will be on February 15 when the track opens its 29th season of dirt track racing and clean family fun. "We are looking forward to a great season of racing, and we are pleased that High Limit and the World of Outlaws are part of this year's schedule," promoter Don Kazarian said. "There has been a lot of buzz about High Limit joining the schedule and the World of Outlaws returning for the first time in three years. Combining them with 12 USAC/CRA racing nights is great news for sprint car fans. It is going to be a great season of sprint car racing, stock car racing, and Night of Destruction.
