- JEFF DYER RETURNS TO MOHAVE VALLEY RACEWAY WITH USAC/CRA THIS SATURDAY NIGHT
(Yucca Valley, CA, February 19, 2025) After the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA season opener was rained out last Saturday night at Perris Auto Speedway, Jeff Dyer will return to the site of his best night in sprint car racing, the Mohave Valley Raceway, this Saturday, February 22nd. Four months ago, competing in the best 410 traditional sprint car field assembled in the west last year, the racing California Highway Patrol Officer made both main events in the prestigious 57th Western World Sprint Car Championship. While last week's rainout frustrated many, it benefited Yucca Valley, California-based Dyer. The veteran driver was nervously awaiting his engine which was being freshened up and was supposed to be delivered on Friday. The plan when he went to bed on Thursday night was to get up early and install it on Saturday morning and then head to the track. However, the famous half-mile oval was saturated after heavy rains, and track officials were forced to pull the plug on the season opener. That gave Dyer some extra time to do the install before this week's race. Needless to say, after making both Western World mains at Mohave in November, Dyer is excited to hit the banked 1/3 mile clay oval this week. And not just because he did so well there in the Western World. "I am excited about going back there for a few reasons," the friendly driver said Wednesday night. "We did run very well there last time. Also, at the end of the year, I still wasn't 100 percent. I was about 60% better. Now for not doing anything the last few months, my body is feeling better and I am just excited to get the year going. It has been kind of a long off-season, but it allowed me to heal up a little bit more. I probably rushed it a bit last year." Dyer is referring to the nasty crash he was injured in at Perris last July 13th. A car ahead of him began flipping and landed on Dyer's cage while he was trying to avoid the mayhem. The blow knocked the former United States Army Demolitions Expert out cold. Unconsciously, his foot hit the throttle pedal and launched him head-on into the wall. The result was a broken arm and a bad concussion. "I am probably 95 to 100% now," said the driver nicknamed "Ponch" after the CHiP'S character. "Every now and then, I have some trouble with my elbow. It kind of flares up like I have tendinitis every now and then. My grip is back to normal, and my strength is a lot better." As usual, the 2025 season will be a busy one for Dyer. In addition to racing in the USAC/CRA Series, he plans to run his lightning sprint when the schedule permits. After Saturday's sojourn to the Copper State, he will return to Perris on Saturday, March 1st. After a week off, USAC/CRA heads to the Imperial Valley Raceway on March 14 and 15. In addition, there is the possibility that the SoCal Lightning Sprint Car Series will be racing on the same program at Imperial. If that is the case, Dyer will race in both classes. The following weekend, the busy schedule will continue its feverish pace when the California Lightning Sprints, Presented by Motor City GMC, will kick off their campaign on the same card as the Kubota High Limit Sprint Cars on the Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway. "We are going to hit the ground running and hopefully have a great season," Dyer concluded. Adult tickets for Saturday's race at Mohave Valley, which is located five minutes from the Colorado River and 20 minutes from downtown Laughlin, Nevada, are $25.00. Kids tickets are $15.00 and children 5 and under are free. Parking is free. Spectator gates will open at 3:30 on Saturday and the first race will take the green flag at 5:30. The Mohave Valley Raceway is located at 2750 Laguna Road in Mohave Valley, Arizona. The track's website is https://www.mohavevalleyraceway.com/. The office phone number is 928-346-3000. In 2025, the following marketing partners will help keep the Dyers on track. Straight Time Stirrups, Haircuts By Susie, Jobu Racing, Justice Brothers, Fonseca Racing, Specialty Fasteners, and Blud Racing Lubricants. If you would like to be a part of Dyer Motorsports in 2024, call (760) 550-7237 or send an email to mailto:dyermotorsports4@gmail.com. Jeff is racing in memory of his grandparents, Glenn, and Beverly Sels, throughout the 2025 season. Scott Daloisio produced this release. - PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY HOSTS THE "CRAZIEST SHOW ON DIRT," NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION, THIS SATURDAY
(Perris, CA, February 17, 2025) After suffering a K.O. loss to Mother Nature last Saturday night, Perris Auto Speedway is ready to open its 29th season this Saturday, February 22nd, when LKQ Pick Your Part presents the "Craziest Show On Dirt," Night of Destruction. Spectator gates for the crash-filled night of racing and clean family fun will open at 5:00 p.m., and the first crash of the night will happen at 7:00. The famous Riverside County speed plant was all set to open the 2025 campaign last Saturday night with a show headlined by the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and the PASSCAR Stock Car classes. However, rains on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday left the infield of the track looking like a miniature version of Lake Michigan and forced the cancelation of the highly anticipated racing program. Thus, this week's Night of Destruction will kick off the new season on Saturday. "Our hopes were high that we could get last week's show in," promoter Don Kazarian said. "With the rain we had on Thursday being persistent and so heavy, we took a look at the pit area when we got here on Friday morning and knew there was no way we could get the show in." "While we were looking forward to opening the year with sprint cars and stock cars, we are equally excited to open this Saturday with LKQ Pick Your Part Night of Destruction," he continued. "It is always a great show that pleases everyone in the family from those three or four years old all the way up to the senior citizens in the crowd. The Night of Destruction show will be the same one that has become so popular over the years and appeals to everyone. On top of everything else, after the wet, cold weather that forced last week's cancelation, the weather looks phenomenal this week. The forecast high in Perris this Saturday is 78 degrees." Saturday's show will feature all five classes that have made Night of Destruction so popular. Daring Figure 8 races, a crazy Figure 8 Trailer Race, the mighty Mini Stocks on the challenging road course, no holds barred Demo Cross, and of course, the crowd favorite zany Double Deckers. All of the crowd's favorite drivers are expected to be on hand. Included should be four-time Figure 8 champion Earl Cox, driver of the Bat Mobile and daddy-to-be Jesse Gordon, Anthony "The Love Doctor" Guisa, Chris Martin who drives the "Hot Wheels" mini stock, defending Overall Iron Man & Figure 8 Trailer champion Michael Schattilly, Rob Multhaupt Jr., two-time Demo Cross champion Trebor Stevens and dozens more. In addition to the racing, fans are encouraged to arrive early. From 5:15 through 5:45, all of the cars and drivers will park on the front straightaway, and all fans will be allowed onto the track to take photos and get autographs. In addition, the drivers will be passing out free candy and other goodies to the youngsters on hand. Tickets for Saturday's Night of Destruction are $25.00 for those ages 13 and over. For kids 6-12, it is $10.00, and children 5 and under are free. The fairgrounds charge $20.00 for parking. With a small convenience fee, advance tickets are available online at tix.com or by calling 1-800-595-4849. For fans who do not want to purchase advance tickets, plenty will be available at the ticket window on race night. After last week's rainout, sprint cars and stock cars will open their 2025 season when the track hosts the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Series along with the PAS Young Gun and Senior Sprints and the PASSCAR Street and Factory Stocks on March 1st. Advance tickets for the first Kubota High Limit Sprint Car Series race at The PAS on March 22nd are available at https://bit.ly/4h1ijAa. - BRODY ROA IS CHOMPING AT THE BIT TO RETURN TO ACTION AT SATURDAY'S PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY OPENER
(Cypress, CA, February 13, 2025) It has been a long, four-month wait for Brody Roa to get back into the cramped cockpit of his powerful 410 sprint car. Weather permitting, the four-month hiatus comes to an end when he races in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series at Perris Auto Speedway's 29th season opener this Saturday, February 15th. The saga began when Roa was ready to load up his sprint car for a trip to the 1/3 mile banked Mohave Valley Raceway oval last October. A track where he scored one of his most memorable wins by coming from 11th to first to win the 30-lap main event in May of 2023. It was his third win in a row and his fifth of eight on his way to the USAC/CRA title. Needless to say, he was looking forward to his trip over the Colorado River last October before disaster set in when he seriously cut his fingers. The injury cost the veteran driver a handful of season-ending races. He had the car ready to go and was about to push it into the trailer when the injury happened. It painfully brought his season to a sudden end. "It was at home," Roa recollected of the scary night. "I cut my pinky, my ring finger, and my middle finger to where it got the tendons and the arteries. I had to go through a 5 ½ hour surgery to get them all repaired." Fortunately, the surgery went well. Roa returned to work after a week, and soon after the holidays, the doctor cleared him, and he was ready to get back to a normal life. "He was really happy with what he saw and told me to go ahead and live my life again," the Garden Grove, California resident said. "I went to physical therapy for a couple of weeks and she (the therapist) told me I was pretty much good and there was no real need to keep coming back there. They were both really happy with how my healing went. The physical therapist told me this was probably the best and quickest heal she has seen on so many damaged fingers. I am really happy with it, and it feels really good." As he had the car ready to go when the home accident occurred, there was not much to do on it to get it ready for this Saturday's race. Other than keeping it dusted off, the only thing he did over the winter was install a water heater on it to heat the engine. Unlike his championship season two years ago and about a dozen years prior, this season will be different. All weekends on the track and endless nights in the garage will be a thing of the past. While he will be in it to win it on race nights, he, his wife Tailor, and young daughters Addie and Rylie will have fun away from the track. "We are not doing any points stuff," he confirmed. "We are going to keep it simple this year and just hit the nearby races at Perris. Tailor just bought a new toy hauler. We are going to take that out on its maiden voyage next weekend. Tailor loves Calistoga and I love Calistoga. We might plan on getting up there for that deal as long as our engine runs good enough at Perris. It is going to be a fluid schedule this year. We will run when we feel like it, and we will have some fun." The crew situation for 2025 will be the usual family deal. "It is the same guys we have had for 12-years now," Roa stated. "My dad is my main guy. He lets me make the calls throughout the night and get the car ready. But he always gets me steered in the right direction. We will also have my Uncle B, my wife, daughters, my mom and my friend Joe Gibb when he can make it." While Roa's plans are set around the Perris races and the Labor Day weekend doubleheader at Calistoga, he will answer the phone if a car owner who is looking for a driver calls. "Yeah, I would," Roa readily answered when asked if he would accept a ride in another car. "Obviously with the family priority this year, if we had an open weekend, I am more than open to it. I will tow our trailer out and we will make a weekend of it. We will go racing and camp somewhere for a couple of days, too." To see Roa's return to action this Saturday, spectator gates at Perris Auto Speedway will open at the normal 5:00 p.m. However, racing will start 30 minutes earlier than normal at 6:30. Tickets for those ages 13 and over are $35.00. Seniors 65 and over get in for $30.00. For kids 6-12, it is $10.00, and children 5 and under are free. The fairgrounds charge $20.00 for parking. Advance tickets, with a small convenience fee, are available online at tix.com or by calling 1-800-595-4849. For fans who do not want to purchase advance tickets, there will be plenty available at the ticket window on race night. Roa would like to thank his 2025 sponsors, "Biker" Bruce Fischer, Burris Racing, ALR Virtual Services, Caltrol, Molecule, and Wilwood Disc Brakes. If you would like to be a marketing partner with the team in 2025, contact Roa using the information at the top of this release. @roygamityanauctioneer @burris_racing_usa @mikeburrisoc @csishocks @theoriginalloosebruce @alrvirtualservices @simpsonracegear @moleculesports @rodendsupply @baldwinfilters @ngkracing @originalngksparkplugs @usacnation @usac_cra @perrisautospeedway @b_roa91 @tai_xoxo_roa @joegibb83, @caltrolinc @drivenracingoil This release was produced by Scott Daloisio Sports (909) 226-7768 mailto:sdaloisiosports@gmail.com
- PERRIS YOUNG GUNS CHAMPION GUERRERO MAKES A BIG STEP UP TO THE USAC/CRA SPRINT CARS
(Perris, CA, February 10, 2025) In 2013, Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian introduced the PAS Young Guns Sprint Car Series. Invented for young drivers with no prior sprint car experience, the idea was to graduate racers into the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Series. Over the years, many drivers have taken the giant leap in class, including past Young Gun Champions and now CRA regulars Logan Williams, Eddie Tafoya Jr., and Stevie Rogers. This year, another Young Guns Champion, Brecken Guerrero, is making the leap to "Big Boy Sprint Car Racing." Guerrero, a high school student who lives in Westminster, California, has been around sprint cars for most of his life. However, last year he jumped into the cockpit for the first time. At the conclusion of the season, he was crowned 2024 Young Guns champion. When Perris Auto Speedway opens its 29th season this Saturday night, Guerrero will receive a championship trophy and a champion's custom jacket. They will go along nicely with the brand-new GAS Sprint Car chassis he collected from the 2023 series sponsor. On Tuesday evening, the well-spoken teen gave a pleasant interview about his upbringing around sprint cars, his championship season, expectations for this year and the future, and his life off the track. PAS: The first obvious question is, how old are you? Guerrero: I am only 17 years old, and last year when I was racing, I was 16. I am a Junior at Marina High School down in Huntington Beach. PAS: How did you get involved in the sprint car racing world? Guerrero: Verne (veteran USAC/CRA racer Verne Sweeney) is technically my stepdad. He is my dad, and he has been around since I was three. Racing has been the love of my life ever since. I was sitting up in the grandstands and then going down to the pits. Now I am racing. We had been wanting me to go down to the pits because it would be cool to experience. We saw one of Gansen's (USAC/CRA driver Chris Gansen) kids in the pits. We talked to the owners of Perris and they said I was allowed to go down there. PAS: How old were you when you first went down there? Guerrero: Oh, shoot, I don't remember. Still in the single digits probably. I was down there spectating and cleaning it (the car). Rubbing off some mud. PAS: As a little kid, did you dream that one day you would be on the track racing? Guerrero: When I was a little kid, I seen my dad race and heard all of these great stories. I always wanted to do it. Now that I am starting to race, it is actually unbelievable. It really is. PAS: Did you race anything before last season? Guerrero: Last year was my first year racing anything. I had no micro experience. Nothing. PAS: How nerve-racking was it the first time you got in the sprint car? It is not like wheeling a used Volkswagen down the street. Guerrero: No, not at all. At first, it is a little intimidating but you kind of learn to calm down your nerves. You learn the car and it gets easier. PAS: How were your mom and Verne's nerves when you first went out? Guerrero: Oh my gosh! My mom was a nervous wreck I have to assume. Verne played it off cool and collected, but there was definitely a nervous pit crew that night. PAS: Your mom is technically your car owner, right? Guerrero: Mom is technically the car owner, yes. PAS: So, did she have any advice, like if you do not bring it back in one piece, you will not get to race it again? Guerrero: It is really mine and Verne's, but if I flipped it again, she probably would not let me drive one. So, I try to keep all four wheels on the ground. PAS: You said, "If I flipped it again." I remember you flipping, and it was rather hard. How did that happen? Guerrero: It was my second night out. It was a rookie mistake. I tried to pass a guy after the checkered flag around the top. I found out how that ends. That was from a heat race when I was in the back. You learn from it, and you move on. It is all a big learning experience. PAS: In Verne, you have a guy helping you whose family ties in racing go back over a half-century. His uncle Max Sweeney, cousins Mike Sweeney and Steve Ostling all raced, and cousin Patty married Jac Haudenschild. That has to be a tremendous help when a guy with a racing heritage like that is helping you. Guerrero: It is awesome. He basically has all of the answers. Working on the cars, he knows everything about them. When we are not working on them, just hearing the stories of Ascot and Manzanita. He is just a cool guy to be around. I have soaked so much of it in. PAS: Do you have any racing heroes besides Verne? Guerrero: Oh my gosh! I cannot even name them all! I love the old guys. Leland McSpadden, Ron Shuman, Haudenschild, and all those guys. New young heroes are Sheldon Haudenschild, Donny Schatz, Carson Macedo, David Gravel, Brady Bacon, Justin Grant. The list goes on and on. PAS: You just named some guys who retired before you were born. It sounds like you have a great sense of sprint car racing history. Guerrero: Oh yeah. With Verne, you get the full history. When I went to the Knoxville Nationals to watch this last year, I actually got to meet Ron Shuman there. That was pretty cool. PAS: I did not know you went there. Who did you go there with? Guerrero: I went with my mom. We just went to watch. Verne had to stay back here and work. So, it was just us two. PAS: A second ago you just mentioned a bunch of winged guys among your favorites. Would you someday like to race winged cars with the World of Outlaws or High Limit? Guerrero: Yeah, it would be pretty cool. Whatever chance or opportunity I get that comes my way. Hopefully, it's a good one that I could take, and it will help me down the line and make it my career. Outlaws or National (USAC) Sprint Cars. Either would be pretty cool. PAS: So, you never raced anything before and you come out and win a championship. What were your keys to victory? Guerrero: Just showing up and being consistent. In the first couple races, I just showed up and ran laps. As it got towards the end of the season, I ran a little harder and was passing people. I was finishing better, getting more laps, and being more comfortable, really. PAS: You are starting all over again on Saturday racing with the big boys. 410 Sprint Car Racing is "Big Boy Sprint Car Racing." Any trepidation or nervousness coming into it, or are you relaxed? Guerrero: I kind of understand the feel for the car now. Getting to race with a lot more people on the track that go a lot faster with a lot more experience. It is definitely a little bit more nerves. I just try to keep them under control and run my own race and do the best I can. PAS: How long do you think it will take you to get up to speed with those drivers and do you have any goals? Guerrero: Hopefully, it will not take too long. My goal is, by midseason to be able to finish comfortably in like, 13th or 14th in midfield. PAS: Thus far, we have just talked about racing. But that is not the only thing in your life. I have heard you are in the Boy Scouts and you play ice hockey. Guerrero: I am one rank away from becoming an Eagle Scout. That is pretty exciting. I started in the Cub Scouts when I think I was about five-years-old. I just kept with it all the way through Boy Scouts and now I am almost an Eagle. Going on campouts and meeting new people is really awesome. PAS: Now let's talk about my favorite sport. I hear you are a pretty fair hockey player. Guerrero: I have been playing ice hockey for eight years. I think after this season is done, I am going to be done with hockey so I can focus more on racing. Hockey is great. It gets you athletic and you meet a lot of people. It is just so fun. I play in the high school league organized by the Anaheim Ducks (NHL). A whole bunch of high schools come together to make different teams. We play in Westminster, Lakewood, Anaheim, Irvine. PAS: That is a really good league you are playing hockey in. How hard will it be for you to give it up? Guerrero: It is really fun. It will take some time to get used to having a wider schedule. I love hockey. When I get older I will probably play in an adult league just to stay with. PAS: Man you are busy! Anything else? Guerrero: Yes, I almost have a black belt in karate. I have been doing that for nine years. To see Guerrero's USAC/CRA debut this Saturday, spectator gates at Perris Auto Speedway will open at the normal 5:00 p.m. for the first race of the track's 29th season of operation. - PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY MOURNS THE DEATH OF JIM GIARDINA
(Perris, CA, January 2, 2025) Last Sunday, Perris Auto Speedway fans, competitors, and officials were saddened to learn of the passing of veteran racer Jim Giardina. The racing dentist, who drove sprint cars and late models at Perris, passed away last Saturday night. The Chicago, Illinois native first burst upon the Southern California open wheel racing scene at a race with the United States Racing Club (USRC) Midgets at the Orange Show Speedway in 1979. From that point on, the popular driver also raced with the USAC Western Midgets, USAC National Midgets, CRA Sprint Cars, SCRA Sprint Cars, World of Outlaws, PAS Senior Sprints, and even some late models. On the night when Giardina first showed up at the Orange Show, just pulling into the pits, people sat up and took notice. It was in the open trailer days, and his bright red #57 with all of the shiny parts was the best-looking car in the pits. From that day forward, if his midgets were not the best-looking cars, there would only be one or two prettier. He took pride in having his equipment looking clean and running fast. "Jim was a very popular driver not only with the fans but with his fellow competitors," Perris promoter Don Kazarian said on Monday morning. "He just loved to race. From his start in midgets to years in sprint cars. He even raced a late model with us before his last appearances in the Senior Sprint Car class in 2021. Many times after the races he passed toothbrushes out to the kids in the stands. Everybody seemed to know and love him." "When we first opened, Jim raced in the SCRA Sprint Cars with us," Kazarian continued. "In 2004, when the USAC/CRA Series debuted, he stepped out of the cockpit and gave rising star David Cardey his first shot in 410 sprint cars. That ended up being particularly important for the series as David grew into one of the best drivers in the group, winning main events, and he was always a championship contender. That may have never happened if Jim had not given him a shot." One of Giardina's best friends in racing was Jeff Terry. Terry, who got involved in midget racing after taking a Racecar Technology course at Chaffey College in the late 1970s, started working on Giardina's cars at a midget race at Ascot around 1980. He worked for the man fans affectionately knew as the "Tooth Doc" until he switched from driving midgets to sprint cars after a flip in Arizona. He spent many hours working on the cars of the racing dentist and on the road with him as well. "He never won a main event," Terry recalled. "He could qualify well, and he could win a heat race, but he never got all 30 laps together. One time at Yuma, he led 29 ¾ laps and lost the lead to Mark Passarelli coming off turn four. He tried, but he was just out there having fun. He enjoyed it. He left midget racing and never came back to it. He raced sprint cars and stock cars after." "We were coming back from, I think, Yuma," Terry continued. "I had a bad toothache. So at 2:00 AM, we pulled into his office, and he pulls it. That is just how he was. He didn't care about pay. He would give you the shirt off his back. It was all about having fun and being with his friends." Tickets for all 2025 races at The PAS will go on sale soon. - 2025 AVANTI WINDOWS & DOORS USAC/CRA SPRINT CAR SCHEDULE
Series Director Tony Jones has announced the upcoming schedule for the Avanti Windows & Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series. The traditional 410s will feature twenty-four (24) events at six (6) different racetracks in 2025. The highly anticipated season will open at Perris Auto Speedway on February 15th and the champion will be crowned at the Perris finale on November 8th.
- BRENT SEXTON WRAPPED UP HIS 2024 SEASON AT THE TURKEY NIGHT GRAND PRIX
(Lakeside, CA, December 4, 2023) A little over 10 months after it all began, Sexton Gatlin Racing's Brent Sexton wrapped up the 2024 campaign on Thanksgiving weekend in the 83rd running of the Turkey Night Grand Prix at the Ventura Raceway. The veteran racer competed in the Inland Rigging Ultimate Sprint Car Series portion of the program. The two-night show matched Lakeside, California-based Sexton against a stellar field of drivers from around the nation. Friday's preliminary night saw 50 cars show up at the tiny 1/5 of a mile track on the beach at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Sexton, a 52-year-old Tennessee native, qualified fifth fastest in his group with a lap of 12.789. Powered by a former Rico Abreu Shaver 360 engine, the three-time lightning sprint car champion had a good starting position in his heat race on the inside of row three. Unfortunately, a tap with another car saw his right rear go flat. The deflation saw him finish 10th. That flat tire meant that Brent had to go to one of the B mains. The race was only 12 laps long and would go by in the blink of an eye on the little track. Starting ninth in the 10-car field, the wily veteran had to finish third to transfer to the A main. The laps wound down quickly and Sexton drove his way to sixth. However, time ran out before he could get past three more cars, and he was done for the night. The following evening, Brent had one shot at making the A-main. That came in one of the three B mains. It was a 12-lapper like Friday night, and he was starting ninth. However, this time he only had to get to fourth. Once again, he began passing cars and raced his way up to sixth. But like the night before, the laps ticked off quickly. Brent ended up two spots shy of the transfer. That ended his racing weekend and put wraps on his 2024 season. SGR is already making plans for the 2025 campaign, with the first race of the year coming in February. If you would like to join the team for a fun, exciting ride on the sprint car trail, call Brent Sexton or email him at the contact information at the top of this release. Sexton Gatlin Racing would like to thank the following companies for making the 2024 season possible. East County Electric Works, Keys Brothers, BR Motorsports, Maxima Oil, Automated Interiors, Valley Lubricant Services, Sexton Fire Protection, BK Wings, Troy Dirt. - JEFF AND SETH DYER FINISH THE 2024 SEASON THIS WEEK
(Yucca Valley, CA, November 26, 2024) With the holidays beckoning just around the corner, Jeff Dyer and his teenage son Seth are set to finish their 2024 racing seasons this Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Wednesday's show will be the 8th annual Western States Lightning Sprint Car Championship for the California Lightning Sprint Cars at the Bakersfield Speedway. Both Jeff and Seth will be racing in that one. Friday and Saturday, Jeff will compete in the Inland Rigging Ultimate Sprint Car Series portion of the 83rd Turkey Night Grand Prix at the Ventura Raceway. Wednesday's race had originally been scheduled for Tuesday night. However, heavy rainstorms on Monday and Tuesday forced the event's postponement until Wednesday. It will be the final race in the 30th season for the California Lightning Sprint Cars. Jeff, a California Highway Patrol Officer, when he is not racing, sits comfortably in third heading into the finale. Seventeen-year-old Seth is seventh in the CLS championship standings, but he is only 10 points out of sixth. Jeff's best finish with the CLS on "The West's Fastest 1/3 Mile High Banked Clay Oval" in 2024 came on March 16th when he placed second. Seth's best showing at the "Okie Bowl" came when he finished fourth on May 18th. However, in June the teen led the first nine laps of the main event and seemed to have the field covered until he slowed with a broken engine. After Wednesday, the team will slap restrictors on the Cal Smith Racing/Dyer Motorsports yellow #39 410 sprint car and head to the prestigious Turkey Knight Grand Prix at Ventura. It will be Jeff's first appearance in one of the USA's most famous dirt track races. On Friday night, he will be one of 60 cars trying to race their way into Saturday's finale. Only the top 42 in points on Friday will race again on Saturday. The two nights of racing at the track, which is located at the beach on the Ventura County Fairgrounds, will be Jeff's first time in a full-size sprint car at Ventura in 2024. However, he has been a force on the tiny track this year in lightning sprints. In five starts, he has two runner-up results, two third-place finishes, and he came home ninth once. Adult general admission tickets at Bakersfield are $25.00. For kids 6-12, general admission tickets are $15.00. For children 5 and under, general admission tickets are free. For seniors 65+ and military (ID required), general admission tickets are $22.00. The track is located at 5001 N. Chester Ext., in Bakersfield (93308). The track website is http://www.bakersfieldspeedway.com/ and the office phone number is (661) 393-3373. At Ventura, spectator gates will open at 3:00 p.m., with cars on the track at 3:30 on both days. Advance tickets can be purchased at www.venturaraceway.com. Additional information is available at 805-648-7223. The famous track is located on the Ventura County Fairgrounds at 10 W. Harbor Boulevard in Ventura (93001). For fans who cannot make it to the track, all three nights will be streamed live on Flo Racing. Seth wrapped up the GAS Chassis Young Gun portion of his 2024 season at Perris Auto Speedway on November 9th. A clogged fuel line between the tank and the filter forced him to drop out of the race early. In 2024, the following marketing partners will help keep the Dyers on track. Dependable Machine Inc., Haircuts By Susie, Jobu Racing, LBA Investigations, Straight Time Stirrups, Justice Brothers, Fonseca Racing, Specialty Fasteners, and Blud Racing Lubricants. If you would like to be a part of Dyer Motorsports in 2024, call (760) 550-7237 or send an email to mailto:dyermotorsports4@gmail.com. - PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY RELEASES IT'S 2025 SCHEDULE
(Perris, CA, November 25, 2024) Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian is pleased to announce the release of the 2025 racing schedule for the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval. The exciting calendar of races will include the wide-open excitement of 410 non-wing and winged sprint cars, three classes of PASSCAR Stock Cars, and, of course, the wildly popular Nights of Destruction presented by LKQ Pick Your Part. 2025 will feature an action-packed 24-race schedule that will be highlighted by 14 nights of sprint car racing. The "Southern California Home of Major League Sprint Car Racing" will host the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series 12 times starting on February 15th and winding up on November 8th. The PAS Young Guns and Senior Sprint Cars will join USAC/CRA each night. In addition, the PASSCAR Super Stocks and Street Stocks will partner with the sprinters nine times each and the American Factory Stocks will be on hand eight times. Additions to the 2025 schedule include the first appearance of the second-year Kubota High Limit Sprint Cars and the return of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars. The PAS is one of the few tracks in the nation that will host both of the series in 2025. The High Limit Series, which is operated by Kyle Larson and Brad Sweet, will make its fifth stop of the year at The PAS on March 22nd. The race will be part of the second full season of High Limit Racing The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series has a history at The PAS dating back to the track's first season in 1996. On September 13th, the Outlaws will make their first stop at Perris since March 26th, 2022, when David Gravel outdistanced the competition. "2025 is going to be one of the most exciting years in the history of Perris Auto Speedway," promoter Don Kazarian enthused. "Fourteen nights of sprint cars, 12 of which are the resident USAC/CRA Series, Young Guns, Senior Sprints, and PASSCAR. Then you have the High Limit Series making its track debut and the return of the World of Outlaws. We will hit the ground running on February 15th and continue on through November 8th." "We also have 10 Nights of Destruction presented by LKQ Pick Your Part," Kazarian continued. "When we first started hosting Nights of Destruction, we never dreamed it would get as big as it has. We tried a number of different classes over the years but have refined it down to five crowd-pleasing divisions over the past several seasons. It has truly become the "Craziest Show On Dirt." Among the other highlights during the year will be the May 24th Salute to Indy for the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars. That race first took place 77-years ago in 1948. One of the biggest nights of the 2025 campaign will take place on June 28th when Night of Destruction will be accompanied by the biggest and best fireworks sky concert in Riverside County. The season will wrap up on November 8th when the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, Young Gun Sprints and Senior Sprints will be joined by the three classes of PASSCAR who will be contesting Jerry Dodd Champion's Night. - EDDIE TAFOYA JR GETS A LITTLE TIME OFF BEFORE RETURNING TO THE SPRINT CAR WARS IN FEBRUARY
(Chino, CA, November 19, 2024) Veteran sprint car racer Eddie Tafoya Jr of Chino Hills, California, is looking forward to getting some time off before he returns to the sprint car warfare in February. Plans right now call for him to make his 2025 debut in the family-owned #51T when the USAC National Sprint Car Series heads to Florida for its season openers. It will be the start of his sixth season racing 410 sprint cars. While not chasing any championships in 2024, Tafoya, who was the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year, finished third in the championship standings of the first-year Ultimate Sprint Car Series. The talented racer also finished 11th in points in the USAC/CRA series. All told he started 27 sprint car main events during the season. He finished in the top ten 13 times with a season-best second-place finish in the USCS race at Santa Maria on June 15th. His best finish in the USAC/CRA Series came the week before when he placed fourth at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway in Bakersfield. Last Friday, on a day off from work and with no races on his schedule until 2025, the 27-year-old answered some questions about the 2024 season and what is on the horizon for next year. S.D.: First, the obvious question: how happy were you with the way 2024 went? Tafoya: I feel good. Always as a racer, I guess you always want more and want to do better. Definitely a solid year. About halfway through, we started picking and choosing what we wanted to do just to mellow out. We have been wide open for five years. We just wanted to give ourselves some time and make sure we were doing everything right and give ourselves the best shot going into the new year and see what we can do. S.D.: After a tough start to the season at Perris when you got clobbered from behind, I think you rolled it into the trailer every night. Tafoya: This year, I was really, really good on equipment. I really did not hurt much except maybe a bent axle or something minor like that. S.D.: That has to feel good knowing you do not have to repair and replace a bunch of torn-up stuff. Tafoya: Money wise it is always good. It is also good for your momentum. If you are tearing stuff up, you can kind of lose your way and get down. It can take too many races to get back to where you want to be. I like to keep pushing forward and not have too many setbacks. This year, we were really good about that stuff. S.D.: Were you guys getting burned out? Tafoya: It is not really the racing. It is all the stuff you have to do with a family team. Me and my dad are the only ones who do anything on our vehicles. We do have another guy, Curt, who helps me out a bunch. Other than that, when we break stuff or wreck stuff, it is just me and my dad in the shop late nights fixing stuff. It definitely takes a toll on you. Last year we were on the road traveling for eight weeks. It is just a big task to do when you both have full-time jobs. Between the both of us, we just kind of decided not to overwork ourselves this year. S.D. What does the equipment situation look like for 2025? Tafoya: We built a whole new car last year. Now I have three really, really good cars. So, we will just tear them down and rebuild them just to make sure we do not have any parts failures and stuff. As far as the package goes and our stuff, we are definitely happy with it. We are just going to make it nice and brand new again for next year. S.D. Will you run the same type of schedule in 2025 as you did this year, or will you try chasing points? Tafoya: I definitely want to do good in points, and a lot of cards have to fall in place. The last two years, we've had some freak stuff kind of go on that put us out of the points. Instead of banging our heads against the wall and scratch and claw for every point, we just kind of go to have fun and do the best we can do. That is usually when I am driving my best. S.D.: So, you have some time to get away from the race cars right now. What are you going to do? Tafoya: Yeah, for a little while. Off-season is not a full-time break for three months for sure. We will definitely go through our entire program and rebuild a lot of stuff and make sure we are all squared away and our ready to put our best foot forward in February. S.D.: A couple of weeks ago, you told me you wanted to open the season in February in Florida with the USAC National Sprint Cars. Is it the same plan now? Tafoya: The talk right now is to start in Florida in February, but that is about as far as it has gotten. We have our eyes set on that. See where it goes from there and just try to be in contention. - LOGAN WILLIAMS HAS HIS BEST SEASON TO DATE
(Ontario, CA, November 18, 2024) Logan Williams, the youngest of the three Williams brothers racing in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series, recorded his best season to date in 2024. Driving the recognizable Flowdynamics #5W, he steered his way to a sixth-place finish in the championship standings. The finish and accomplishments achieved by the 28-year-old during the year have him ready to return when the series commences on the other side of the new year. Williams, who lives in Yorba Linda, California, had perfect attendance in the 20th season of the series that is headquartered in Southern California. In the 22 races that comprised the schedule, he started the A main 21 times. In those, the friendly driver finished in the top five six times and the top ten 15 times. Of the top five, his best outing was a second at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway on the second Saturday in June. He also placed third and fourth two times each and had a fifth-place result. "I would not say satisfied," Williams responded when asked about his 2024 campaign. "We obviously wanted to win, but it was definitely our best season by far." "Probably almost winning at Perris," the 28-year-old quickly answered about his highlight of the year. "We led 21 laps or whatever. And Santa Maria when we had a good chance to win when Chiaramonte won. Also, when I finished second at Kern. Those three right there stand out for me." While the 2014 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year has been a formidable competitor throughout his career, his performances in 2024 were noticeably improved over his previous campaigns. In fact, he was a contender every time he came to the track during the year. "Just figuring stuff out with the cars, and me being able to do better towards the end of the races," the confident driver said when asked what propelled him to such a good season. "Me, my dad, Randy, and Clayton worked on the car. Mike English (a past top competitor in the series) set up my car at the last race." Amongst the series regulars that Williams squared off against at every race were his two older brothers, Cody and Austin. That provided an interesting angle coming into the last race of the year. Cody, the eldest of the siblings, was sixth in the championship standings and Logan was seventh. However, the gap between the two was only 10 points coming into the finale at Perris Auto Speedway on November 9th. Before the main event, Cody added a few more digits when he was the second-fastest qualifier on the night. At that point, it looked like Logan would be forced to settle for seventh in the points race. Magnifying his advantage, Cody was starting fifth in the main while Logan began the final battle of the year in ninth. But, Cody left the fray on lap 22 and placed 18th. With Logan rolling forward from ninth to sixth, he earned enough points to take the sixth spot in the standings back from his brother and thus, earned bragging rights over the winter. "You try to race everybody as hard as you can," he replied when asked about racing against his brothers. "You try to be a little more careful around them, I guess. We all want to do good and want each other to do good as well." Now with some time off, Williams is going to kick back a bit before sliding back into the cockpit early in 2025. "Not much, to be honest," Williams laughed when asked about his winter plans. "Just work on the car a little bit and enjoy my time off until we start racing again. We plan on running the full season next year. We may have some trouble getting some funding to make it the whole year, but as of right now, we plan on making all of them." Williams and his teammate Matt McCarthy would like to thank the following sponsors for making the 2024 season possible. Flowdynamics Inc., PurgePlugs.com, Cal Therm Mechanical Insulators, JFK Design Build, So Cal Racing Fuel, and Full Throttle Lift.
