- Arenz grabs mixed bag at IRA Bloomington, Butler jaunt
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 2, 2025 - It was a tale of two nights for Travis Arenz and the Travis Arenz Motorsports team during a doubleheader weekend of Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series action at Bloomington Speedway in Indiana on Friday, June 27 and Butler Motor Speedway in Michigan on Saturday, June 28. Arenz's first visit to the quarter-mile high-banked Bloomington Speedway red clay oval in Bloomington, Ind. was one to forget. After struggling to muster the 28th fastest lap in the 29-car field, the 18th-year racer moved from 10th to seventh in the first eight-lap heat race to finish one spot out of an A-main transfer spot. He then placed third in the IRA B main to gain the 24th starting position in the 30-lap A main. However, Arenz pulled off early on, resulting in a 24th-place showing. "I thought Bloomington was a neat place," Arenz said. "I would be curious to see how things would have gone if the track didn't get as much rain and the surface wasn't crap. With having to start at the tail of the feature and already slicing two new tires, we decided to be smart, save our equipment and keep a few laps off our motor. Considering those factors, I chose to pull off in the early laps of the feature." One night later, at Butler Motor Speedway in Quincy, Mich., proved to be an improvement as Arenz opened the night by securing fast qualifier honors in the 37-car field with a lap of 13.382 seconds around the three-eighths-mile high-banked dirt oval. After placing second in the first heat race and third in IRA dash 1, the Sheboygan Falls, Wis. driver started the 30-lap main event from the fifth starting position. He wavered between fourth and seventh place throughout the event before coming home with a strong fifth-place showing to mark his fifth top-five finish of the 2025 campaign. "I liked racing at Butler," Arenz said. "It was sort of a combination of a few tracks we run frequently. I enjoy competing at new tracks to test my skills." With the IRA off until the end of July, Arenz is unsure if he will enter any races in the coming weeks. The IRA season will resume with a tripleheader weekend starting Friday, July 26 at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wis., moving on to Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Saturday, July 27 and ending up at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, July 28. "As for the plans in the next few weeks, it's up in the air as of now," Arenz said. "If I can, I would like to race a time or two to keep my skills sharp." - Max Guilford takes IRA checkers at Bloomington
Max Guilford piloted the Greg Wheeler #16c to victory in the 30 lap Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association feature on the red clay of Bloomington Speedway Friday night. Following Guilford was Scotty Neitzel, Emerson Axsom, Jake Blackhurst and Jordan Goldsberry.
- Fast start falls short for Arenz at Road Challenge, IRA road trip on tap
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 25, 2025 - Still riding the wave of his remarkable upset victory in a High Limit Racing national tour series event at 141 Speedway on June 5, it was a matter of so close, yet so far away in the Road America Challenge Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car event at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, June 21. The 18th-year racer enjoyed a great start to the night by qualifying a stout fourth in the 25-car field with a lap of 12.050 seconds around the third-mile semi-banked red clay oval. After finishing second in the first eight-lap IRA heat race, Arenz advanced to his seventh IRA dash appearance in eight tries in 2025. After making a huge outside move on the opening lap of the first four-lap dash, Arenz advanced from fifth to second to earn the fourth starting position in the 30-lap Road America Challenge main event. The 2021 and 2022 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car champion got off to a strong start in A-main action before engaging in a battle for second with Jake Neuman. After moving past Neumann on Lap 17, the 2013 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Outlaw Compact four-cylinder track champion tracked down leader Kelby Watt heading into the closing stages of the race. Arenz surged ahead to lead lap 24 before Watt battled back along the outside groove. On lap 25, Watt attempted to squeeze past Arenz next to the backstretch wall. However, the two drivers made contact before Watt cut down the track in turn three to seize the lead. Meanwhile, Arenz slowed to a stop on the following lap with a flat right rear tire resulting from the collision with Watt. After making a tire change in the work area, Arenz returned at the rear of the lead lap before moving up to secure a 15th-place showing at the finish line. "I was very happy to be able to put down a good lap in qualifying," Arenz said. "The heat race went well and I moved forward in the dash. Unfortunately, come feature time, there was a racing incident that caused a caution and cut down my right rear tire after taking over the lead position. We were able to get it changed and with five laps to go, and I was able to drive from the back of the field to get a few spots back." The team is preparing to head out on the road with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association Sprint Car Series this Friday, June 27 at Bloomington Speedway in Bloomington, Ind. and Saturday, June 28 at Butler Speedway in Quincy, Mich. At Bloomington Speedway on Friday night, IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars and Super Stocks are also on the card. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. with spectator gates opening at 5 p.m., hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m. on the quarter-mile high-banked red clay oval. On Saturday night at three-eighths high-banked Butler Motor Speedway dirt oval, UMP Modifieds and Four Cylinders will also be featured with pit gates opening at 3 p.m., followed by spectator gates at 4 p.m., hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m. The races will mark Arenz's first career appearance at both tracks. "I always like to take on new tracks," Arenz said. "I see it as a challenge to test my knowledge and skill. We will do what we do every night - watch the track, watch other drivers on the track, make smart choices and be smooth and consistent." - Brent Sexton Has Dream Trip to Indiana
Lakeside, CA - June 19, 2025 — Brent Sexton of Lakeside, California, lived out a lifelong dream earlier this month when he traveled to Indiana to compete in the Sprint Car portion of Indiana Midget Week. The three-time Lightning Sprint Car champion was geared up to compete six nights in a row. However, Mother Nature had other plans, and the veteran racer was only able to race three times due to rain. Sexton and the traveling Sexton Gatlin Racing crew kicked off their Indiana campaign at Circle City Raceway, just minutes from the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway on June 3rd. There, Sexton faced the toughest field of competitors in his sprint car career. Still, the seasoned driver wasn't fazed in the slightest. After qualifying seventh in his group, he lined up in the same spot for his heat race. Early on, he ran near the back but quickly found speed on the low line, advancing to fifth and nearly grabbing the final transfer spot before running out of laps. In the 17-car, 12-lap B Main, Sexton started fourth—thanks to his heat race performance—and held his ground, using the bottom groove to move up to third and secure a coveted transfer into the A Main. For a driver who only began racing full-sized sprint cars two years ago, transferring into the main event against such a stacked field was a significant achievement. Starting 19th in the feature due to his qualifying time, Sexton again relied on the low line and charged forward to finish 14th. Only two other drivers passed more cars than the Tennessee native in the 25-lap main event. Twenty-four hours later, Sexton and the beautiful #42 car made the short trip to Paragon Speedway. Buoyed by his strong showing at Circle City, he was ready to take on another unfamiliar track. Qualifying didn't go in his favor, however, as he timed in ninth in his group and started deep in his heat. He managed to pass one car, placing him in a tough spot for the 22-car B Main. Starting 16th, Sexton again went to work on the bottom, advancing five positions to finish 11th. Unfortunately, time ran out, and he didn't make the A Main. On the bright side, only four drivers improved their positions more in the B. The following night at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, racing was canceled due to rain. Unfortunately, the wet weather lingered, washing out the next two nights of competition at Bloomington and Tri-State Speedway. Fortunately, the rain vacated the area by Sunday night, and Sexton was able to compete at the legendary Kokomo Speedway—a track he had looked forward to racing on the most. He qualified seventh in his group of 10 and finished eighth in both his heat race and the B Main. Though he didn't make the A, just getting the chance to compete at Kokomo was another highlight of the trip. Aside from the rain and some motorhome issues on the return trip, the week was a memorable one for the entire Sexton Gatlin Racing team. While most of the team was in Indiana, SGR teammate Braydin Collie had a stellar outing with the California Lightning Sprint Cars at Bakersfield Speedway on June 7th. After qualifying seventh, the El Cajon, California teenager won his eight-lap heat race. Starting sixth in the feature, he charged to the front and even led momentarily in a thrilling mid-race battle. He eventually finished third—his best result of the year. Sexton Gatlin Racing has a big announcement on the horizon. Details will be revealed in the next week to 10 days. - Sexton Gatlin Racing Makes Indiana Debut This Week
Lakeside, CA - June 1, 2025 — For the first time in their careers, Brent Sexton and his son Grant will be racing in Indiana this week. The Lakeside, California-based Sexton Gatlin Racing (SGR) team is set to compete in six consecutive nights of sprint car action as part of Indiana Midget Week. The series kicks off at the cozy confines of Circle City Raceway in Indianapolis. Brent, 52, and Grant, 20, are well-known names in lightning sprint car circles. Brent is a three-time lightning sprint champion, earning California Lightning Sprint Car Series titles in 1999 and 2008, and capturing the POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprint Car Series championship in 2022. The latter came a year after Grant claimed the same title in 2021. In 2023, the father-son duo began shifting their focus to the high-powered 410 sprint cars in the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series. That year, Grant, then 19, earned Rookie of the Year honors, while Brent finished third in the same category in 2024. Over the past two years, SGR has adopted a "pick and choose" approach to their race schedule, and 2025 has followed suit. Brent has competed in seven events so far—five with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series (USCS) and two with USAC/CRA. His best finish to date is a fifth-place showing at Ocean Speedway with USCS on March 28. Grant has made five starts this season—three in USCS and two in USAC/CRA. His top result came at Ventura Raceway on March 8, where he finished eighth in a USCS event. "A good buddy of mine, Mark Deskovick, moved out there (Indiana) from Ramona," Sexton answered when asked why they are headed to Indiana. "He always said we should come out to visit and see what it is all about. It has been a bucket list thing, and now we are in a position to do it." "I would love to make A mains more than anything," Sexton continued. "Being a first timer, just seeing the tracks we have always dreamed about is a big deal. I am looking forward to seeing all of them. We begin at Circle City and finish at Kokomo. I cannot wait." In preparation for Indiana Midget Week, the Sextons consulted with Anaheim native and Indiana transplant Jake Swanson. Swanson shared that post-race car prep typically happens late at night due to the intense Midwest humidity. Taking his advice, the SGR team plans to service their cars in hotel parking lots after races, ensuring they rest during the day and stay cool before hitting the track each evening. Fans unable to attend Indiana Midget Week in person can catch all the action live with a Flo Racing subscription. For more details, visit FloRacing.com.
