- Xavier Doney Dominates with POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprints at 34 Raceway
West Burlington, IA. (8/29/25) Xavier Doney would be nearly untouchable with the POWRi Honest Abe Roofing 410 Outlaw Sprint League in a 34 Raceway thriller to notch his third league victory after leading all thirty laps to earn the hard-earned feature victory. Returning to the speedy surfaces of 34 Raceway with twenty-one talented entrants of the POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprints, Austin McCarl set a quick qualifying time of 12.862-second lap with Xavier Doney, Cole Mincer, and Josh Schneiderman each earning heat racing victories. Electrifying the packed audience in West Burlington, Iowa, on the initial green flag start, with high-point qualifier Austin McCarl and Xavier Doney lined up in the front row, Xavier Doney would gain the lead on the opening lap with the field filing into positions. Holding the front of the field through a barrage of top spot-swapping attempts, Xavier Doney would hold off the continual charges of Austin McCarl using a fast high side line as Ayrton Gennetten, Joe B Miller, and Jack Anderson contended inside the early running top five. Leading all revolutions around 34 Raceway with precision, Xavier Doney would not be denied in earning his second seasonal POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprint victory in an action-packed main event, with Joe B Miller hustling into the runner-up position by using a late-race restart. "I knew the opening start was going to be the difference in this race, and I was able to get a really good jump going into turn one. This was just a really fun race with two very different lines on the track," said Xavier Doney in the 34 Raceway victory lane ceremony celebrations. Adding "Once McCarl showed me his nose with about ten to go, I knew I had to go to the top side and just hang on until the end". Contesting closely behind would find Ayrton Gennetten placing on the final podium placement from the starting third on the initial green flag. Hard-charging through the field would find Gage Montgomery place fourth from starting eighteenth on the opening laps as John Barnard would record a career best to round out the top-five finishers for the POWRi Honest Abe Roofing 410 Outlaw Sprint League at 34 Raceway. 34 Raceway | POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprints | 8/29/25: Start2Finish TV Quick Qualifying Time: 88-Austin McCarl(12.862) Flying A Motorsports Heat Race 1 Winner: 74-Xavier Doney Eibach Racing Heat Race 2 Winner: 15JR-Cole Mincer Auto Meter Heat Race 3 Winner: 49-Josh Schneiderman Wholesale Batteries Inc. - Thornton Returns to Lucas Oil Victory Lane with Win at Lucas Oil Speedway
WHEATLAND, MO (July 11, 2025) - Ricky Thornton Jr. returned to Lucas Oil Victory Lane on Friday night as he won night one of the 19th Annual CMH Diamond Nationals presented by Wieland. Thornton's winless drought with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing extended back to his last victory with the series on May 17 at Eagle, Nebraska. Thornton led all 40 laps to secure his 10th Series win of 2025, earning $15,000. Jonathan Davenport finished second, while Clay Harris moved up from the 11th starting position to earn his first Big River Steel Podium of the season. Garratt Alberson, who won the previous night at 34 Raceway, finished fourth, and Devin Moran rounded out the top five. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 52nd time in his career, the defending series champion, now trailing Davenport by 50 points heading into Saturday night's $25,000-to-win main event. "Man, I felt like I was on different tires than he (Davenport) was, and I was thinking, man, he's so good here. Did I really make a bad decision to be on different tires? We took off, and he was a little better than I was at times, which kind of surprised me. I felt like I should be a little better on the bottom. I almost overdrove the straightaways, and it was wheelspinning really bad. That caution kind of saved me. It calmed me down and let me think about what I needed to do. I had a good restart and thought the top in one and two looked really good, but it was right on the edge. One time when I entered three, I felt like I was going to end up in the wall," said the Chandler, Arizona native. Davenport, who is aiming for his record-tying fourth National Championship, finished second after initially fighting off Brandon Overton early in the race and Clay Harris in the final laps. "I think it was about tires. It's so crazy. I don't know; you think you know a little about tires, and then all of a sudden, something like tonight happens. Clay did an awesome job coming from where he did on as soft as tires as you could run. Ricky did a good job too, and he had on soft tires as well. I really thought we were sitting in the catbird's seat with the hard tires, but it was just a little different night. They had a lot of water on the track, and obviously, you can still see it's kind of brown all the way across; it was quite shiny black, yet. Hats off to the track crew." Harris, who earlier in the day took delivery of another engine after mechanical issues on Friday night at 34 Raceway, nearly matched his best career finish with the series by finishing second at Ocala in 2024. "It means a lot to come home third tonight. We worked all day, and without Cameron and Chad, I wouldn't be able to run this well. I didn't think we'd finish the Lucas season because we broke a motor last night, but the guys stepped up and bought us a new motor today, so we ran good, and I'm happy about it." The winner's Koehler Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Ultimate Towing and Recovery, Knight's Companies, Hoker Trucking, Coltman Farms Racing, Elite Ready Mix, Capital Waste, Bilstein Shocks, Sunoco Rae Fuels, EMD Wraps, and Certified Inspection Services. Completing the top ten were Brandon Overton, Daulton Wilson, Hudson O'Neal, Cade Dillard, and Brandon Sheppard. - Thornton dominates opener at Lucas Oil Speedway's CMH Diamond Nationals
WHEATLAND, MO. (July 11, 2025) - It was all Ricky Thornton Jr. on Friday night at Lucas Oil Speedway, as the 19th annual CMH Diamond Nationals Presented by Wieland kicked off. Thornton, of Chandler, Ariz., led all 40 laps to earn his 10th Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series feature victory of the season for the $15,000 prize. Jonathan Davenport was second and Clay Harris came home in third as 36 cars checked into the pits for Night One. The stakes will be even higher on Saturday night with $25,000 going to the Night 2 Diamond Nationals winner. A total of 36 Late Models checked into the pits for the opener and the series' top two drivers battled it out from the start of the night. Scoring his first series win since May, Thornton was coming off a 20th-place finish in a feature he did not finish a night earlier at 34 Raceway in Iowa. Thornton said his 52nd career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory was a much-needed boost to his Koehler Motorsports team. "They busted their butts. We drove here all night and got here at 4 this morning," Thornton said. "They slept a few hours, then back up at 8:30. They had the motor and a little bit of front suspension was about the only thing on it. Worked all day, just trying to give ourselves a chance. "Yesterday the driver screwed up cost us a lot of parts. I just have to thank them for all their hard work." Thornton set fast qualifying time with a lap of 15.012 seconds in Group A with Davenport, of Blairsville, Ga., posting fast time in Group B at 15.073. Those two won their heat races to earn front-row starting positions for the main event and they set a blazing pace at the start. Thornton led Davenport raced mostly side by side through three laps with Thornton clinging to the lead. Caution waved on lap four for Kayden Clatt's spin in turn two. Thornton continued to hug the bottom groove after the restart as Brandon Overton slid past Davenport for second, but Davenport was back in second two laps later. That would be the race's lone caution and that was good news for Thornton who covered the 40 laps in just 13 minutes, 51 seconds. Davenport, the series points leader over Thornton, was a hefty 3.2 seconds behind the winner at the checkers. "I was on (softer) tires than he was," Thornton said of Davenport, "and I'm like man, he's so good here, did I really make a bad decision? Then we took off and he was a little better than I was. It kind of surprised me. I felt like I should have been better on the bottom and I think I almost over-driving the straightaways and wheel-spinning real bad. "That yellow came out and kind of saved me. It let me calm back down and think of what I needed to do." Looking ahead to Saturday, Thornton said "hopefully we can have a quiet day. No rain or anything like that hits us and we can be up here again." Thornton stretched his margin to more than two seconds by lap 10 with Davenport a second and a half in front of third-running Overton. The extended green-flag run saw Thornton continue to pull away, his lead hitting 3.2 seconds by lap 17. That's about the time Thornton caught lapped traffic and Davenport was able to cut the margin to 2.9 seconds at the halfway point on lap 20. But it didn't take long for Thornton to again push his lead to more than three seconds and he was never challenged from there. Davenport wound up having to fend off a hard-charging Harris, who came from 11th, to hold onto second. Davenport, with eight Lucas Oil Speedway feature wins since the spring of 2023, said he was surprised that his choice of a harder compound tire did not pay off. "You think you know a little bit about tires and something like tonight happens," Davenport said. "Clay done an awesome job coming from wherever he did on as soft as you could put on and Ricky done a good job, too, and he had on soft tires. "I really thought we were in the catbird's seat. Me and the 1 car (Brandon Sheppard) were the only ones who had all hard tires on. Just a little bit different of a night. That's what we love about Lucas Oil Speedway. It's always something a little bit different." Davenport still leads Thornton by 50 points in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series championship race. Harris, of Jupiter, Fla., finished third just .037 seconds behind Davenport. Garrett Alberson, who started 10th, was fourth and Moran settled for fifth. "It means a lot," Harris said of his season-best series finish. "Our guys have been working their (butts) off. We didn't think we were gonna finish racing the Lucas season because we broke a motor last night, but they stepped up and bought us a motor today and we run good, so I'm happy about it." Fennewald wins in Hickamo Super Stocks: Johnny Fennewald zoomed from a sixth-starting position to grab the lead by lap five and ran away from there for the Hickamo Super Stocks victory in the CMH Diamond Nationals support division. Fennewald, of Appleton City, earned $650 for the win as 31 Super Stocks were on hand. He grabbed the lead from early pacesetter Kyle Davis and set sail from there in a race slowed by only one caution. Fennewald won by a 4.6-second-margin, his second Super Stocks triumph of the season. "It's a really growing class," Fennewald said of the Super Stocks. "I didn't know how it would be, from a Stock Car to this. It's a learning curve for sure. It's a whole lot different deal, but we're starting to figure it out." Tim Brown finished third with Terry Schultz fourth and Tony Anglin fifth. The Hickamo Super Stocks will compete for $1,000 to win on Saturday as grandstands open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6:30 followed by Late Model time trials. - Garrett Alberson Wins a Thriller at 34 Raceway
WEST BURLINGTON, IA (July 10, 2025) - It was finally Garrett Alberson's night on Thursday at 34 Raceway as the Las Cruces, New Mexico native won his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event of the season. Alberson, who entered the event leading in most feature laps this season without a win, earned $15,000 for his second career Series victory. Alberson led the first 35 laps of the race and the final four as he held off Hudson O'Neal and Brandon Overton for the victory. Jonathan Davenport finished fourth and regained the championship points lead from Ricky Thornton, Jr., who failed to finish the race. Carson Ferguson rounded out the top five drivers. Alberson, who led 39 laps total, fell to third with 10 laps remaining but rallied using the top side of the race track to go from third to first in the final five laps of the race. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the first time since winning at Port Royal in August of 2024, Alberson came home with the win in dramatic fashion, "That was a crazy race right there. You know, we went hard on tires, and on some of those restarts, the track kept hacking. At first, I thought it was going to go our way, and then later I started skating around a little bit, and it was a little dirty here and there. It was like that last run we actually cleaned it up on the top and got that right rear going, and we just never quit," said Alberson, who currently sits fifth in the championship points. "I could get in there in the bottom with Hud, but I couldn't really leave out of there quite as nice as I needed to carry my speed, so I just got up there where I tried to get my right rear hot and try to get my momentum back up. At first, I didn't really feel like I was getting anywhere, it was kind of a treacherous feeling, but then after a couple of laps, I just started to make up some ground, and it just worked out right." O'Neal, who won the last series race at Muskingum County on July 5, came from 11th to claim the runner-up spot. "We raced all over this thing, from wall-to-wall and uke tire to uke tire. Man, 34 put on a show tonight. I really feel like I had something there. I was rolling on Brandon (Overton) and he went down there to protect and he kind of just shut it down on that bottom. Then I heard a motor firing up there outside of me and I thought oh no and then we got to the center of the corner, and I saw the white nose and I figured it was Garrett. He (Alberson) made a great move he just kind of took advantage of Brandon trying to protect a little bit and he was able to make the winning move." Overton, who led 11 laps, rounded out the Big River Steel Podium in third. "I zigged when I should have zagged, I guess. Hats off to the race track, man that was an awesome race. You could go wherever you wanted to. I seen Hudson and I'm like man just get down and kind of block him and run back to the top and as soon as I moved down, I stalled out and I saw Garrett come around me. I didn't know he was still there. It is what it is. We have been struggling, but we're all working together, tonight I feel like was a big step. I am always on Burroughs, and I'm doing this and doing that; we are still learning each other. It has taken us a lot longer than we wanted to, but that's alright, we are just going to keep working." The winner's Roberts Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Low Voltage Solutions, Inc., Mesilla Valley Transportation, Sunoco Race Fuels, Bilstein Shocks, Titan Racing Products, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Bill's Sport Shop, Dickie's Doghouse, Cheap Cars, Done Right TV, Roemer Machine, Denago Powersports, Mitchell Ranch, and Fertilizer Equipment Specialists.
