- Penalty Report: Dillard Suspended Following Incident at Batesville Motor Speedway
BATAVIA, Ohio (August 19, 2025) - The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing announced penalties for Cade Dillard after an on-track incident and subsequent actions at Batesville Motor Speedway on Friday, August 15. The on-track incident happened during the Group B feature race between Dillard and Garrett Alberson. On a restart on lap seven, Alberson passed for the lead in turn two. As the two drivers exited turn two, contact was made, causing Alberson to hit the backstretch wall. Neither car could continue after the crash. In an interview with FloRacing, Dillard admitted to intentionally causing the chaos and expressed his intentions to do it again if the opportunity arose. After review, Dillard's on-track and off-track actions were deemed aggressive, violating the conduct policy in section 1.4 of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing rulebook. As a result, Dillard has been suspended for six months from any Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing competition. - Davenport Wins Second Career Topless 100 at Batesville
LOCUST GROVE, AR (August 16, 2025) - Jonathan Davenport took the lead on lap 38 when race leader Brandon Sheppard, who had led the first 37 laps, slowed with a flat tire. Davenport then led the remaining 61 laps to win his second career Nutrien Ag Solutions Topless 100 presented by Big River Steel on Saturday night at Batesville Motor Speedway. The victory earned the current Midwest Sheet Metal points leader $50,000, marking his 8th Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing win of the year. Chris Madden tried to chase down Davenport over the final 20 laps, finishing second by just 0.989 seconds. Devin Moran rallied from a flat tire to take third on the Big River Steel Podium. Rookie Dan Ebert scored the best finish of his late model career with a fourth-place finish, while Sheppard rebounded from his flat tire to finish fifth. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 91st time in his career, and for the second time at his car owner's home track, Davenport said: "I just tried not to get complacent behind those lapped cars, then I started to, and it began to get a little tricky around the top. I needed to keep slowing down and moving toward the bottom, but I kept trying to catch my left rear in that brown strip. I'm sure it looks like there would be plenty of grip from up there, but it was so slimy that I actually got looser when I tried. So, I finally said I've got to do something because either Madden or I was going to step out and try the outside. There was a lot of grip out there if you hit it just right and straight," said the Blairsville, Georgia native, who is aiming for a record-tying fourth series championship this year. "He (Madden) went a little harder on the left front; that probably doesn't sound like much, but I think it would have helped me, you know, run the top a little better for a few laps. Then it would get hot, and I would start pushing more and more. Hats off to all of you fans out here, man—it's hot, and thank you for sticking it out." Madden, driving for Kale Green Motorsports, was aiming for his second career Topless 100 win, which earned $20,000 for his runner-up finish. "We tried to save our stuff for as long as we could and make a charge at him (Davenport). About 20 laps to go, we started picking up the pace a little bit. We were really good down here in one and two, and in three and four we about evened out — he might have been a tick better down there. We caught that lapped car, and the 19M got in between us, so we kept our stuff hot trying to get around him. I finally got by him with about three laps to go, cooled out our stuff, and got back to JD. Hats off to JD, and congratulations to Devin." Moran, who fought with Davenport for second place early in the race when Sheppard was out in front, finished third and rounded out the Big River Steel Podium. "I don't know if I would have beaten JD or not, but I felt like we had the best car. We messed with him a little early in the race, got by him, and then he got back by me just a little. Then I had the flat. It's unfortunate— we come here to race, and everybody's getting all these flat tires. I don't know what the deal is, but it's just a shame. I feel like we had such a great race car, and my guys worked their butts off. Finishing third was a good night for points, but it's really bittersweet when you feel like you had a chance to win." The winner's Double L Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Nutrien Ag Solutions, DynaGro Seed, ASC Warranty, Midwest Sheet Metal, VP Fuels, Mark Martin Automotive, and Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas. Completing the top ten were Ricky Thornton Jr., Brandon Overton, Daniel Hilsabeck, Kyle Beard, and Clay Harris. - Sheppard and Davenport Win Friday Night Preliminaries at Batesville
LOCUST GROVE, AR (August 15, 2025) - Brandon Sheppard and Jonathan Davenport each secured a 25-lap preliminary win on Friday night at Batesville Motor Speedway as the action began for the 33rd Annual Nutrien Ag Solutions Topless 100 presented by Big River Steel. Sheppard dominated the racing in Group A, posting the fastest overall time, winning his heat race, and leading wire-to-wire to take the win in the first 25-lap main event, earning $5,000. Chris Madden finished second, with Hudson O'Neal, Devin Moran, and Dale McDowell rounding out the top five. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the third time this season and for the 35th time in his career, the driver from New Berlin, Illinois, will be looking for his first Topless 100 victory tomorrow night. "I have always liked this place. You know, it's a little ways from home, so I didn't get to come here very often over the years. The crew has been trying to make me comfortable and find the balance I'm looking for. I knew we'd get there, and I also knew it would take some time. Since we brought it out, it's been lights out. Of course, we can still miss the setup or make a mistake with the tires or whatever the case may be, but this car has been really good ever since we broke it out. I am super proud to be part of this team and proud to be part of the Rocket family." Madden, the 2019 winner of the Topless 100 while driving for Scott Bloomquist, finished second to Sheppard in his Kale Green-owned entry. "We made a few adjustments right there before that feature; we're stuck too hard. We just went overboard on that balance, but we'll get it back for tomorrow. We feel good about what we have here. 100 laps is a long time around this place, so you've got to keep some tires on it, and you've got to be there at the end." O'Neal, who had to deal with a flat tire while running second in his heat race, came from seventh to finish on the Big River Steel Podium in the first 25-lapper. "It was interesting, that's for sure. We were fortunate to start at the bottom and be able to pick off a few cars there early on. After having a flat in the heat race like we did, we're happy to rebound and come back up through the field to make it onto the podium. We are excited about tomorrow. I think over 100 laps, the track is going to slow down a bit more, and I felt really good right there. It just got narrow on that bottom lane. I hope for 100 laps it widens out so we can race all over the track," said the 2021 winner of the event. The winner's Mark Richards Racing, Rocket Chassis is powered by a Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Valvoline, Seubert Calf Ranches, Franklin Enterprises, Petroff Towing, Gunter's Honey, Ace Metal Works, Sunoco Race Fuels, Collins Brothers Towing, Stiles Marine and Maintenance, Performance Grading, Fox Shocks, and Rocket Pre-Owned Motors. Completing the top ten in the first feature were Mike Marlar, Joseph Joiner, Donald McIntosh, Jared Landers, and Daniel Hilsabeck. The second feature didn't end well for several drivers, as Jimmy Owens led the first four laps until Cade Dillard moved into the lead on lap five. A caution after a lap seven restart saw Dillard and Garrett Alberson get together after Alberson took over the lead from Dillard heading out of turn two, almost flipping his car as the incident eliminated both drivers. Owens then went back to the race lead as he led until lap 14, when he suffered a right rear flat tire. Davenport then took the top spot and kept it until the finish. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 90th time in his career, and for the seventh time this season, Davenport will be aiming for his second career Topless 100 win on Saturday night. "It's always good to win here for my car owners. We created a special paint scheme for my good buddy and our partner, Steve Martin, with Nutrien Ag Solutions. It's just a little something different for them; they help with this event and have been a big stepping stone in my career. They have definitely helped me and Lance Landers Motorsports a lot. I wasn't sure if leading was the right spot to be in. I am thankful for my guys—we've been on the road for six weeks. We came back to the shop, and they completely rebuilt two or three race cars, then worked on Jared's (Landers) car as well." Thornton, who is seeking his first career win in the Topless 100 on Saturday night, finished second in the nightcap feature. "I definitely didn't have anything for Jonathan during that last restart. I told my guys afterward that I wasn't even going to try to race JD; I'm just glad Garrett and everyone else is okay after that wreck on the back straightaway. I feel like you're going so fast here that a small mistake could cost you. We've got a lot to do to catch the Rocket1." Harris, who was as high as second, saw a late-race caution derail his hopes of passing Davenport, who was nearing traffic with three laps remaining. Harris finished on the Big River Steel Podium in the second feature race after passing him in the closing laps. "I thought our night was going downhill early on; we fell behind in qualifying. I kind of messed up some things on the car to upset it, but we came from 16th to second and then third, so I am happy with it." The winner's Double L Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Nutrien Ag Solutions, DynaGro Seed, Mark Martin Automotive, and Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas. Completing the top ten in the second feature were Kyle Beard, Jimmy Owens, Brandon Overton, Daulton Wilson, and Haiden Cowan. - 33rd Annual Topless 100 Coming Up for Lucas Oil Late Models
BATAVIA, Ohio (August 12, 2025) - Get ready for an action-packed weekend as the top drivers of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing converge at Batesville Motor Speedway for the 33rd Annual Nutrien Ag Solutions Topless 100 Presented by Big River Steel. In 2025, two preliminary events will be held on Friday, each offering a $5,000-to-win prize. The field will be divided into two groups based on a pill draw, with each group competing in a full program of Dirt Draft Hot Laps, Allstar Performance Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and their respective 25-lap segments A-Main. The top 16 drivers in points from Friday's preliminary events will automatically qualify for the A-Main on Saturday, while the remaining drivers will start in a B-Main. On Friday, the pit gate will open at 3:00 PM, the general admission gate at 4:00 PM, with a driver's meeting scheduled for 7:00 PM. Hot Laps are set to begin at 7:30 PM. On Saturday, all gates will open at 4:00 PM. A driver autograph session is scheduled from 6:15 to 7:00 PM. The on-track action begins with Dirt Draft Hot Laps at 7:30 PM, followed by B-Mains for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. The weekend will culminate with the 100-lap Nutrien Ag Solutions Topless 100 Presented by Big River Steel, offering a $50,000 prize to the winner. The IMCA Modifieds will compete in a complete program each night. Batesville Motor Speedway is situated in Locust Grove, Arkansas, just seven miles west of Batesville at the intersection of Highways 25 and 14. The event's highlight is the opportunity to witness dirt late models without a roof. The absence of a roof allows spectators to have a close-up view as drivers navigate their 800+ horsepower machines around the lightning-fast, 3/8-mile oval track. Jonathan Davenport stays at the top of the latest standings in the Big River Steel Chase for the Championship presented by ARP. Ricky Thornton Jr. is second, just five points behind, with Hudson O'Neal and Devin Moran following. Brandon Sheppard and Garrett Alberson are currently tied for fifth. Donald McIntosh leads the O'Reilly Auto Parts Rookie of the Year chase over Daniel Hilsabeck and Dan Ebert.
