- EDDIE TAFOYA JR. HAS A BUSY USAC NATIONAL SPRINT CAR SERIES SCHEDULE IN 2023
(Chino, CA, January 8, 2023) Eddie Tafoya Jr., the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year and 2018 Perris Auto Speedway Young Guns Sprint Car Champion, will take the next step in his racing career with an expanded schedule in the USAC National Sprint Car Series in 2023. Starting February 13th and 14th with a pair of special events at the Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Florida, and finishing at the 11th Annual "Smack Down" at Indiana's Kokomo Speedway on August 24th, 25th, and 26th, he will compete 23 times in the premiere traditional sprint car series in the world. PAS 3-26-22=51t=0614-3.jpg Eddie Tafoya at Perris in 2022. Doug Allen photo. Last year the Chino Hills, California resident had a career-best season in 410 sprint cars. He made 24 starts in the USAC/CRA Series and placed in the top 10, 13 times. Of the 13, six of those were top five. His best outing of the campaign came when he placed second at Arizona's Cocopah Speedway on January 29th. His hard work ended up in a third-place finish in the standings. Tafoya wants to build on the success of the 2022 season and feels the best way to do that is by expanding his participation in the USAC National Series. "We had a great year last year," the handsome driver said on Thursday afternoon. "Third was good and our best finish was second. I really, really, really want to win. We were close, but we didn't have the right package on the right nights. I do not want to plateau yet. I feel like I still have a lot to learn and I want to learn it quickly. I think going and running with the national guys, by the time I come back here it will put me in a lot better position. I just really want to win races. Really want to learn and to get faster. I want to up my experience in a quicker amount of time." The 23 national series races currently on his schedule will be at 13 different tracks. Tafoya, 25, will be making his debut at seven of them. They are Florida's Volusia Speedway Park, and Bubba Raceway Park. He will be racing in Texas for the first time at Rocket Raceway Park, and the Devil's Bowl Speedway. He will also make first appearances at Ohio's Eldora Speedway, Iowa's Knoxville Raceway, which is known as the "Sprint Car Capital of the World," and the Circle City Raceway in Indiana. The appearances at Devil's Bowl, Eldora, and Knoxville are especially inviting as they are among the most famous dirt tracks in the world. In 2022, Tafoya only ventured to the Midwest one time. That was for the three-night USAC National race at Huset's Speedway in South Dakota in July. After placing 10th and 13th on the first two nights, the fit driver started the finale by scoring a comfortable win in his qualifier. After starting third in the main, he ran in the top three for the first 17 laps. That included running second for several laps much to the delight of the crowd at the track and thousands watching around the world on Flo Racing. While in third on lap 18, he slapped the wall coming off turn four sending his car bicycling onto the left side wheels and then back into the wall when it came back down on all fours. The young charger stayed on the throttle despite a bad vibration in the car. He remained on the track for the duration and placed 15th with what turned out to be a badly bent wheel. "We ran in third until I think halfway to go when I got into the wall," Tafoya stated when asked if his run at Huset's weighed on his decision to expand his National schedule. "Out here (on the West Coast) I really don't know what it is. On our good nights, we are all right. On our bad nights, we just could not figure it out. All of my crew said if we could run like we did at Huset's we would be doing great out here. I need to go back there. I feel I just need to do some homework and be able to be in that zone for a consistent amount of time and not just hit and miss." Racing in the National Series means Tafoya will be spending some time on the seven tracks he has never raced on. He is looking forward to new adventures and challenges. While he has never set a tire to those tracks, he has battled on many of them on the simulator. "I really like the big race tracks as I seem to do a lot better when I go a lot faster for whatever reason that is," the second-generation sprint car driver laughed. "I know that just watching Bubba (Bubba Raceway Park) in Florida that it is quick. I know Devil's Bowl is supposed to be fast. Eldora is obviously huge and so is Knoxville. I run all of those on the simulator. I think it will be really cool to get back to those tracks and see what we can do against those guys." "I wouldn't say it helps much when it comes to set up stuff," he said, referring to racing on a simulator. "But it helps for sure with visual and reaction stuff. Like when stuff starts going wrong. Training your brain on how to react to certain situations and stuff like that, I think it is really helpful." The only uncertainty in heading back to the Midwest seems to be crew related. Well supported by family and friends when he is racing in the west, that may be a bit harder when he is competing thousands of miles away. "That is definitely one of the big issues," the driver intoned when queried on who would be helping when he is not in California. "We have a couple of buddies who live back there who we are fortunate that they let us use their properties and stuff. The Wingo brothers run a sprint car back there and I think they are going to come help us whenever they can. Hopefully, we can fly in Kenny (Perkins), Malyssa (Perkins), my cousins, and whoever else can lend a hand when we need it." While his focus for 2023 will be in the USAC National series, West Coast fans need not fret as they will still get to see Tafoya in action when he is not away racing in the Midwest. He will be in and out for events early in the season and with his current USAC National schedule slated to end in August, he should get in several races in September, October, and November. "I know that after we go to Florida, we are bringing our stuff home," Tafoya said. "So in between the end of February and mid-April, we will be home. We will see if there are some races in there. We have not decided if we are leaving our stuff there between Eldora to Knoxville or if we are coming back. Basically, whenever my stuff is home, we will try to hit Perris and some other closer stuff. And if somebody needs a driver here (when he is not in the Midwest), I would be more than happy to drive." The Specialty Fasteners #51T team is currently busy in the shop making sure the cars are ready for the season openers in Florida. In addition to working on the cars in the shop, they are exploring corporate partnership opportunities for the upcoming campaign. If you or your company would like to be a partner with the Specialty Fasteners team in 2023, please contact Eddie Tafoya Jr. via phone at (909) 393-3999 or by e-mail at mailto:teamtafoya@aol.com. - Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series Sets 48 Dates in 2023
Bryan Hulbert - DRUMRIGHT, Okla. (December 8, 2022) Ready to dive into the 32nd season of touring, the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series is set for a 48-night run in 2023 that will see the tour at 28 facilities across ten states. Similar to the 2022 layout, the increase in car counts, and the ability for nearly all teams that started the season able to finish, series owner Terry Mattox will again keep that formula in play while adding new high-paying dates and focusing on weekend events. "It's the formula that built ASCS during the early 2000s, and it brought teams out that otherwise would have never considered running the National Tour," commented Mattox of the 2022 season. "When I was talking with teams at the end of the season, I got a lot of good feedback and suggestions on what they wanted to see schedule-wise, and one of those was keeping the races more focused on the weekends and limiting the number of mid-week events we run, and I feel like the 2023 schedule accomplishes that." With familiar favorites like the Devil's Bowl, Creek County, Knoxville, Lucas Oil Speedway, and more dotting the schedule, the 2023 lineup will also see the addition of five new facilities. First on the list of new stops is Rocket Raceway Park in Petty, Texas. On the lineup in 2022, tires and mother nature kept the series at bay. Shelby County Speedway in Harlan, Iowa, features a one-third-mile oval and would be the ninth Iowa oval to host the tour. A highly requested track over the years is Rush County "Bullring" Speedway in La Crosse, Kan. Living up the hype during URSS events over the year, the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series will rank among the largest events to roll into the five-sixteenths-mile oval. Completely redone from its former Flint Creek Speedway days, the track that now sits in Colcord, Okla., is Arrowhead Speedway. Another track that was set to see action in 2022, the new owners pushed back the opening of the track in order to make sure the facility was ready. Paired with another new oval, the three-eighths-mile Longdale Speedway sits just the other side of Stillwater and will return to life in 2023 with several special events dotting their schedule. With new tracks on the lineup, returning tracks cannot be overlooked. Formerly Randolph County Raceway, the ultra-high-banked Missouri oval has a new lease on life and a new name; Moberly Motorsports Park. Last on the lineup in 2012, Dodge City Raceway Park returns with a pair of nights in July. A couple of dates are still in the works as Mattox looks to secure a couple more venues in addition to dates marked at TBA. The 2023 season will again see a season-ending payout of $50,000 to the champion. Nightly payout and appearance money will stay the same for the 2023 season. Full payout for weekend events is available at http://www.ascsracing.com. Major events on the 2023 lineup include the Capital City Clash at Jackson Motor Speedway ($15,000 to win), the Mickey Walker Memorial ($5,000 to win), West Kansas Showdown at WaKeeney Speedway ($5,000 to win), Knoxville 360 Nationals ($15,000 to win), Hockett/McMillin Memorial ($10,000 to win), and the COMP Cams Short Track Nationals, which will have a venue announced soon. Other events will be announced as the season nears. Terry Mattox will again be at the helm of the American Sprint Car Series. Questions on the tour can be directed at him by calling (918) 417-0624 or email terry@ascsracing.com. The 2023 season will mark the 32nd year of competition for the American Sprint Car Series. Spearheaded by the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, the ASCS Nation includes Regional Tours that encompass both wing and non-wing competition. When making it to the track is not an option, the series can be found on http://www.floracing.com, and is included in the platform's $150 a year subscription plan. For other news, notes, and information on any of the tours under the ASCS banner, log onto http://www.ascsracing.com, follow on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (@LucasOilASCS). 2023 Lucas Oil ASCS Event Lineup: Date - Track - City, State 3/17/2023-Devil's Bowl Speedway - Mesquite, TX 3/18/2023-Devil's Bowl Speedway - Mesquite, TX 3/31/2023-Jackson Motor Speedway - Byram, MS 4/1/2023-Jackson Motor Speedway - Byram, MS 4/7/2023-Super Bee Speedway - Chatham, LA 4/8/2023-Super Bee Speedway - Chatham, LA 4/21/2023-TBA 4/22/2023-Boothill Speedway - Greenwood, LA 5/12/2023-Moberly Motorsports Park - Moberly, MO 5/13/2023-Moberly Motorsports Park - Moberly, MO 5/19/2023-Tri City Speedway - Granite City, IL 5/20/2023-Tri City Speedway - Granite City, IL 5/26/2023-Lakeside Speedway - Kansas City, KS 5/27/2023-Lake Ozark Speedway - Eldon, MO 5/28/2023-Lake Ozark Speedway - Eldon, MO 6/2/2023-Creek County Speedway - Sapulpa, OK 6/3/2023-Creek County Speedway - Sapulpa, OK 6/16/2023-WaKeeney Speedway - WaKeeney, KS 6/17/2023-81 Speedway - Park City, KS 6/23/2023 - TBA 6/24/2023-Rocket Raceway Park - Petty, TX 6/30/2023-Boone County Raceway - Albion, NE 7/1/2023-Shelby County Speedway - Harlan, IA 7/7/2023-Dodge City Raceway Park - Dodge City, KS 7/8/2023-Dodge City Raceway Park - Dodge City, KS 7/14/2023-Thunderbird Speedway - Muskogee, OK 7/15/2023-Batesville Motor Speedway - Batesville, AR 7/21/2023-Rush County Speedway - La Crosse, KS 7/22/2023-81 Speedway - Park City, KS 8/3/2023-Knoxville Raceway - Knoxville, IA 8/4/2023-Knoxville Raceway - Knoxville, IA 8/5/2023-Knoxville Raceway - Knoxville, IA 8/25/2023-Lakeside Speedway - Kansas City, KS 8/26/2023-TBA 9/1/2023-Arrowhead Speedway - Colcord, OK 9/2/2023-Longdale Speedway - Longdale, OK 9/12/2023-Clay County Fair Speedway - Spencer, IA 9/14/2023-Lucas Oil Speedway - Wheatland, MO 9/15/2023-Lucas Oil Speedway - Wheatland, MO 9/16/2023-Lucas Oil Speedway - Wheatland, MO 9/22/2023-TBA 9/23/2023-TBA 10/6/2023-Short Track Nationals - Location TBA 10/7/2023- Short Track Nationals - Location TBA 10/13/2023-Devil's Bowl Speedway - Mesquite, TX 10/14/2023-Devil's Bowl Speedway - Mesquite, TX 10/27/2023-Lake Ozark Speedway - Eldon, MO 10/28/2023-Lake Ozark Speedway - Eldon, MO *Subject to change without notice. - 2023 Tezos All Star schedule to feature 50 events including six-race kick off in Georgia and Florida
BROWNSBURG, Ind. (December 1, 2022) - With much anticipation, the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 is pleased to unveil a 50-race slate for the 2023 season, all of which kicking-off in traditional fashion with their annual southern swing through Georgia and Florida on February 3-14. Diverse as well as competitive, the 2023 All Star agenda boasts a travel plan that features 33 different facilities across 11 states. In addition to the visits to Georgia and Florida, America's Series will trek through Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, and New Jersey during the new year. Of the 50 events on the schedule, 21 will award $10,000-to-win or more with five writing checks for over $22,000. The season's premier programs include Portsmouth Raceway Park's annual Dean Knittel Memorial ($22,554), Lernerville Speedway's Silver Cup ($25,000-to-win), the annual Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race ($26,000) - to be held in at the Plymouth Dirt Track (WI), Port Royal Speedway's Bob Weikert Memorial ($29,000), and Port Royal Speedway's 55th annual Tuscarora 50 ($55,000). "We had objectives to accomplish while working through the scheduling process for the 2023 season", said Tony Stewart, owner of the All Stars. "We made a concerted effort to desaturate certain markets to facilitate a hopeful improvement in the demand to attend our events. Further, we continue to pursue partnerships with increased purse payouts for the race teams. Once again, we appreciate the support of the many track owners and promoters in scheduling an All Star event or events with us in 2023." In addition to the 21 events paying $10,000 or more, the 2023 schedule officially includes 15 events paying $6,000 to win, 2 events paying $7,000 to win, 11 events paying $8,000 to win and 1 event paying $8,500 to win. "We're really excited about what we were able to put together for 2023", Stewart continued. "We feel it's a great mix of our staple events, combined with some new dates for some tracks, sprinkled in with a handful of visits to tracks that have either never been on our schedule or we haven't visited in a few years. We'll be anxious and ready to head down to Georgia at the end of January." A six-race non-point stint through the Peach State and Sunshine State will commence with a visit to Senoia Raceway in Senoia, Georgia, on February 3-4, Volusia Speedway Park in DeLeon Springs, Florida, on February 7-8, and East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Florida, on February 13-14. After nearly a two-month break, the 2023 All Star championship points season will begin with a two-day Spring Nationals visit to Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday, April 7-8. If each of the Attica events should be forced to move due to weather, the two-day program will then be contested the following weekend, Friday and Saturday, April 14-15. May's agenda stands tall with an action-packed slate featuring a competitive weekend at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois, and Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wisconsin, on May 12-13, followed by the season's first trip to the Empire State with visits to Outlaw Speedway, Fonda Speedway, and Weedsport Speedway on May 19-21, respectively. A journey to New Jersey and Pennsylvania on May 25-28 will help the All Stars close the month of May with consecutive stops at Bridgeport Speedway in Swedesboro, New Jersey on Thursday, Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, on Friday, and Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pennsylvania, on Saturday and Sunday; the weekend will conclude with the $29,000-to-win Bob Weikert Memorial on Sunday, May 28. June will begin with a trip to Wisconsin where the Series will battle the IRA Outlaw Sprint Series during visits to Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam (June 2) and the $26,000-to-win Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race at the Plymouth Dirt Track on the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds (June 3). The 41st edition of Ohio Sprint Speedweek is slated for June 9-17 featuring eight events in nine days concluding with the Dean Knittel Memorial at Portsmouth Raceway Park. Speedweek action will take the All Star Circuit of Champions to Attica Raceway Park on June 9, Fremont Speedway on June 10, Wayne County Speedway on June 11-12, Sharon Speedway on June 13, Atomic Speedway on June 15, Eldora Speedway on June 16, and Portsmouth on June 17. Wednesday's open date will act as a potential rain date should any event prior need to utilize it. July will be diverse for America's Series, not only featuring a two-day blast through New York and Ohio in visits to Ransomville Speedway in Ransomville, New York, and Sharon Speedway for the Lou Blaney Memorial in Hartford, Ohio, on July 7-8, but the map will also take action to Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania, where All Star competitors and Western Pennsylvania's finest will battle head-to-head for the $25,000-to-win Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup on Tuesday, July 18. July will then continue with a venture west into the Central Time Zone where teams will compete elbows up in seven events over nine days. Dubbed Thunder Through the Plains, the nine-day tour will include stops at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, on July 21, Spoon River Speedway in Lewistown, Illinois, on July 22, Red Hill Speedway in Sumner, Illinois, on July 23, Benton Speedway in Benton, Missouri, on July 26, Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri, on July 27, I-70 Motorsports Park in Odessa, Missouri, on July 28, and Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on July 29. Giving All Star teams the opportunity to compete in Knoxville Raceway's annual 360 and 410 Nationals programs, the Series' August agenda will not commence until Friday and Saturday, August 18-19, when the Series will attempt to conquer the Empire State yet again, this time visiting Outlaw Speedway in Dundee and Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon in consecutive fashion. Eventually trekking south of the New York border, the mid-August weekend will conclude officially with a visit to Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, August 20. A two-day stop in Michigan, the lone visit to the Wolverine State in 2023, will then close out the month of August with events at Tri-City Motor Speedway (August 25) and Butler Motor Speedway for the Mace Thomas Classic on August 26. Perhaps the most competitive stretch on the 2023 All Star schedule, September's slate includes not only another tangle with the notorious Pennsylvania Posse, but also competition with Ohio's ultra-competitive local contingent, blasting off with Attica Raceway Park's annual Attica Ambush on Friday and Saturday, September 1-2. Wasting little time, compasses will then turn due east, setting aim on another visit to the Port Royal Speedway where action will resume for three straight days. Featuring the highest paying program on the 2023 All Star slate, Tuscarora 50 weekend will take center stage on Thursday through Saturday, September 7-9, headlined with the $55,000-to-win Tuscarora 50 on Saturday night. The 50-lap finale is also the longest event on the 2023 All Star calendar. The All Star Circuit of Champions will then close-out the 2023 season officially with a three-event return to the Buckeye State, first headlining Fremont Speedway's Jim & Joanne Ford Classic on Friday and Saturday, September 15-16, followed by Eldora Speedway's 4-Crown Nationals on Saturday, September 23. 2023 All Star Schedule: (events in bold at minimum $10,000 to win) Friday, February 3 | Senoia Raceway | Senoia, GA Saturday, February 4 | Senoia Raceway | Senoia, GA ($10,000 to win) Tuesday, February 7 | Volusia Speedway Park | DeLeon Springs, FL Wednesday, February 8 | Volusia Speedway Park | DeLeon Springs, FL Monday, February 13 | East Bay Raceway Park | Tampa, FL Tuesday, February 14 | East Bay Raceway Park | Tampa, FL Friday, April 7 | Attica Raceway Park | Attica, OH Saturday, April 8 | Attica Raceway Park | Attica, OH Friday, May 12 | Jacksonville Speedway | Jacksonville, IL Saturday, May 13 | Wilmot Raceway | Wilmot, WI Friday, May 19 | Outlaw Speedway | Dundee, NY Saturday, May 20 | Fonda Speedway | Fonda, NY ($10,000 to win) Sunday, May 21 | Weedsport Speedway | Weedsport, NY Thursday, May 25 | Bridgeport Speedway | Swedesboro, NJ ($10,000 to win) Friday, May 26 | Williams Grove Speedway | Mechanicsburg, PA ($10,000 to win) Saturday, May 27 | Port Royal Speedway | Port Royal, PA ($10,000 to win) Sunday, May 28 | Port Royal Speedway | Port Royal, PA ($29,000 to win) Friday, June 2 | Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway | Beaver Dam, WI Saturday, June 3 | Plymouth Dirt Track | Plymouth, WI ($26,000 to win) Friday, June 9 | Attica Raceway Park | Attica, OH Saturday, June 10 | Fremont Speedway | Fremont, OH ($10,000 to win) Sunday, June 11 | Wayne County Speedway | Orrville, OH Monday, June 12 | Wayne County Speedway | Orrville, OH ($10,000 to win) Tuesday, June 13 | Sharon Speedway | Hartford, OH Thursday, June 15 | Atomic Speedway | Chillicothe, OH Friday, June 16 | Eldora Speedway | Rossburg, OH ($12,000 to win) Saturday, June 17 | Portsmouth Raceway Park | Portsmouth, OH ($22,554 to win) Friday, July 7 | Ransomville Speedway | Ransomville, NY ($12,000 to win) Saturday, July 8 | Sharon Speedway | Hartford, OH ($10,000 to win) Tuesday, July 18 | Lernerville Speedway | Sarver, PA ($25,000 to win) Friday, July 21 | 34 Raceway | West Burlington, IA Saturday, July 22 | Spoon River Speedway | Lewistown, IL Sunday, July 23 | Red Hill Speedway | Sumner, IL Wednesday, July 26 | Benton Speedway | Benton, MO Thursday, July 27 | Lake Ozark Speedway | Eldon, MO Friday, July 28 | I-70 Motorsports Park | Odessa, MO Saturday, July 29 | Knoxville Raceway | Knoxville, IA Friday, August 18 | Outlaw Speedway | Dundee, NY Saturday, August 19 | Utica-Rome Speedway | Vernon, NY ($10,000 to win) Sunday, August 20 | Selinsgrove Speedway | Selinsgrove, PA ($10,000 to win) Friday, August 25 | Tri-City Motor Speedway | Auburn, MI Saturday, August 26 | Butler Motor Speedway | Quincy, MI Friday, September 1 | Attica Raceway Park | Attica, OH Saturday, September 2 | Attica Raceway Park | Attica, OH ($12,000 to win) Thursday, September 7 | Port Royal Speedway | Port Royal, PA Friday, September 8 | Port Royal Speedway | Port Royal, PA ($10,000 to win) Saturday, September 9 | Port Royal Speedway | Port Royal, PA ($55,000 to win) Friday, September 15 | Fremont Speedway | Fremont, OH Saturday, September 16 | Fremont Speedway | Fremont, OH ($10,000 to win) Saturday, September 23 | Eldora Speedway | Rossburg, OH ($10,000 to win) About the All Star Circuit of Champions: All Star Enterprises, LLC, wholly owned by Tony Stewart, d/b/a the All Star Circuit of Champions, is a winged sprint car series.
