  Lucas Oil Speedway Spotlight: Defending champ Tattershall looks to avoid the mayhem in Easter Bowl Enduro 150

  WHEATLAND, MO. (April 16, 2025) - It's perhaps the most-unique race of Lucas Oil Speedway's season, where mayhem in the norm and avoiding carnage is imperative to those hoping to contend for a trip to checkered flag. The Easter Bowl Enduro 150, scheduled for Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway, isn't about having the fastest car. Patience, tire conservation and having a little bit of luck on your side is the recipe for success. "That's one of my favorite part about the big Enduro races," said Will Tatterhsall of Bois D'Arc, defending champion of the $1,500-to-win Easter Bowl 150, in which the action only stops for a red flag if the track is blocked or someone's in a particularly dangerous situation. "Once you hit the track, it doesn't matter if there's carnage or calls stalled," Tattershall noted. "You're just running and trying to avoid it all. You're trying to strategize staying on the track. That's been my goal, trying to manage the tires and not blowing them out. There's no cautions. You just run, run run … and avoid the chaos." Tattershall is one of the premier Enduro racers in the area. He's coming off a 151-lap win on Saturday at Springfield Raceway and said he has nine wins in 23 attempts since switching to his Crown Vic-style Panther chassis last year. One of those wins came at the 2024 Easter Bowl Enduro 150. Speed, while nice, is not the main objective when the entrants line up three-wide to start the marathon. Last year's Easter Bowl Enduro took 1 hour, 4 minutes to complete. "Just made laps and tried to be consistent," Tattershall said, noting that was the key to his latest win at Springfield. "That's all I tried to do. I was by far not the fastest car. I went back and looked at my lap times and my fastest lap I was 12th. I just tried to be consistent and keep the tires on the car. "I had a little luck Saturday night, picking the right lanes when I had to and not getting caught up with other cars." Tattershall said he's a long-time racing enthusiast who has tried his hand at racing in various dirt-track divisions over the years. "Years ago before I had kids, a buddy and I put together one of those cruiser cars with a gas man and a wheel man," Tattershall said. "We did that for a few years. He was scared to ride and run the gas, so I was always the gas man and never got to drive. Then my girlfriend, Haley Burros, she raced a lot of her teen-age years. She had a friend in Pure Stocks I became pretty good buddies with, Jeff Reid. For the last four years now I've raced a lot with him. "I'd like to have an upper-class car, but it's so much fun in the Enduro and Bomber type cars that I'm happy to stay with those. That's kind of where the dirt trackin' comes from." Asked about any special preparation to the car in anticipation of inevitable beating and banging over the course of a 150-lap race, Tattershall laughed and said his car spent most of the winter sitting in a field underneath a tarp. He needed to take a battery out of his boat to get it started and into the shop for some maintenance the week before racing at Springfield. "I took it up and down the road a little bit - I live out in the country and I hot-lapped it a little bit - just to make sure it would run," he said. "I bought two new ride-side tires, so that was it. "It worked so good last year, I didn't do a lot to change anything this year," he added. " "I like the track up there at Lucas for the Enduros because it never really slicks off. I wouldn't want to run one every weekend, it's a lot. You're in the car for a long race. That's a long time to stay focused." Three Weekly Racing Series classes in action: While the unique Enduro race will conclude the action, three divisions of the Pitts Homes and Realty Weekly Racing Series also will be in action with the Arctic Food Equipment Modifieds in the spotlight with a $1,000-to-win main event. The O'Reilly Auto Parts Stock Cars and Clear Creek Golf Cars USRA B-Mod also will compete. Also to kick off the racing action, the Stock Cars will hold a makeup of their feature from Full Body Madness that was rained out on March 22nd. The winner will earn $1,500. Pit and spectator gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6:30 and opening ceremonies at 7. UTV Round 2 postponed: With rain in the weekend forecast, Round 2 of the UTV Short Course scheduled for Friday and Saturday on the Off Road track has been postponed. It will be made up on May 16-17.   Lucas Oil Speedway Spotlight: No slowing down for Wells heading into Spring Nationals

  WHEATLAND, MO. (April 9, 2025) - Justin Wells jokes that it's a shame a milestone birthday is in the not-too-distant future. The half-century mark can be daunting. No matter the chosen occupation, it is supposed to mean a slower pace. But Wells, 48, instead is ready to pick up the pace in 2025. He plans a semi-regular schedule of Open Late Model racing after dominating en route to back-to-back Hermitage Lumber Late Model track championships at Lucas Oil Speedway. The Ozarks Area Racers Foundation Hall of Famer from Aurora, a one-time force on the regional racing scene, flashed that he still had the ability last October with runs of third and fourth in the Lucas Oil MLRA Fall Nationals at Lucas Oil Speedway. "That's what we're building on," Wells said this week. "It's been a long time since we concentrated on Super Late Model racing. I've got the best cars and best motors and best of everything that I've ever owned. "It's a shame that I'm getting close to 50," he added with a chuckle. "I want to give it a whirl before … I'm not saying that I'm ready to quit, but I don't have a ton of racing left in me. Me and my wife (Missy) talked and with my crew guys and we said, 'Let's give it all we've got and if it don't work out, that's all right. If it does, that's gonna be cool.'" Wells is looking forward to mixing it up with an expected top-notch field at the 12th annual Lucas Oil Speedway Spring Nationals Presented by Iconic Apparel, this Friday and Saturday. With the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series off this week, defending Show-Me 100 winner Jonathan Davenport and other national-touring drivers are expected, with top prizes of $7,000 on Friday and $20,000 on Saturday. "Everybody wants to tune up for the Show-Me 100 and I think you're going to draw a lot of good guys, like Davenport and some of them. It should be a good show for the fans," Wells said. After winning 23 feature races in the Weekly Racing Series at Lucas Oil Speedway the last two years, Wells said he doesn't have a lot of home-track advantage because the power of the Open Late Models make it a different ballgame compared to the limited motor. Wells is looking forward to putting his focus on the open division this season. He said he has two open motors available for his two cars - a 2006 TNT chassis that he calls "Old Faithful" that has 116 feature wins and a TNT he debuted last year by making the Show-Me 100 starting field, plus the strong Fall Nationals runs. "Mainly that's all we're gonna do this year," he said of open racing. "We're just hit anything within about a three-hour radius and try that this year. "The Old Faithful car, we're gonna take our open motor that we ran last year and put that in it … and we're gonna run the new ULRA Series and Revival Series and and use that car for the smaller tracks. "These motors any more, they so high-dollar that you have to have a reason to run 'em. You can't just take it to a $1,000 or $1,500 to win show. There's got to be some money on the line where you think you have a chance to win something." Wells broke out the newer car last earlier this spring at Springfield Raceway, but struggled with finishes outside the top 10. He figured to be better prepared for this weekend. "We're jacked up about it," Wells said. "We didn't start off very good at Springfield, but it was mainly because we weren't really ready to go. Now we've had these three weeks off and I feel good about where we're at." The Hickamo Super Stocks also will be in action both nights, chasing $650 to win on Friday and $1,000-to-win on Saturday. The Show-Me Vintage Racers complete the show lineups on both nights. The first 500 fans through the gate receive a free 2025 Lucas Oil Speedway schedule magnet courtesy of City Magnet.
