- Thornton Wins First Career Hillbilly Hundred
SARVER, PA (August 30, 2025) - Ricky Thornton Jr. led wire-to-wire, winning the 57th Annual Summit Racing Equipment Hillbilly Hundred presented by Arizona Sport Shirts on Saturday night at Lernerville Speedway. Thornton's 13th Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win of the season was worth $30,000 and marked his first victory in dirt late model racing's oldest, ongoing race that began in 1967. Thornton faced a tough challenge from Jonathan Davenport after a lap 90 caution when the top two in the series championship points made contact in a side-by-side battle. Thornton was able to pull away from Davenport in the final nine laps to win by 1.397 seconds. Max Blair, who started 13th, rounded out the Big River Steel Podium in third after passing Devin Moran right before the final caution of the race. Moran finished fourth. Brandon Overton earned the Hoker Trucking Hard Charger of the Race as he finished fifth after starting 21st. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 55th time in his career, Thornton has now won three of the last four Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing events. "I am glad that the first yellow came out. I really didn't get a great start; I let JD get out in front of me. I felt like whoever got out front would be the one to beat, whether your car is better or not. We tried a bunch of different things today, and I felt we were a lot better. I still think we need to improve a lot once it finally cleans off, but overall, it was a really good night for us. You have to start the night off well with good qualifying, have a solid heat race, and a good start to the feature, said the Chandler, Arizona native who now resides in Indianola, Iowa. "I felt like I was kind of sliding myself into three and four, then they took away the top line, making it so I couldn't get out there where they could hail Mary around me. I got to traffic and felt almost better around the bottom, and I think you slow your pace down so much when you get to a lapped car, so I needed to stay down there. On that last restart, I felt like I got a decent restart; I saw JD under me and thought, alright, drive it in hard into one and slide myself, and I got a run off of two. By the time I heard him, it was already too late, and I was into him. Obviously, I know he was going to be mad; you definitely don't want to run a competitor off the track like that." Davenport was seeking his third career Hillbilly Hundred victory. He took home $15,000 for a second-place finish and gave his viewpoint on the lap 91 restart. "I got a pretty good restart, and I was planning to slide him when I got into one, but just like a few other times when I'd get a run on him, Thornton was going to come all the way to the bottom. So I was either going to crash us both or do something else, and I didn't want to do that. I moved back to the top and got a really good run. I doubt he saw me, but if he heard me, you know, whatever, he says he didn't. It is what it is; as he said, whoever gets out in front is going to be really hard to beat." Blair, who also finished third in the track's signature event, the Firecracker 100, in June, worked his way methodically to a podium finish after starting on the inside of row number seven. "I love this place when it gets slippery like that. I need to improve in the heat races so I can start a little higher than 13th. We were really strong at the end of the race, so congrats to Ricky — he's on a roll. It's getting down to crunch time in this championship, and it's cool to see him racking up all these wins. Hopefully, he can keep it up and go back-to-back." The winner's Koehler Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Ultimate Towing and Recovery, Hoker Trucking, Knight's Companies, Coltman Farms Racing, Elite Ready Mix, Capital Waste, Bilstein Shocks, Sunoco Race Fuels, EMD Wraps, and Certified Inspection Services. Completing the top ten were Mike Marlar, Carson Ferguson, Tim McCreadie, Brandon Sheppard, and Tyler Erb. - Alberson Starts Hillbilly Hundred Weekend with Friday Night Win at Lernerville
SARVER, PA (August 29, 2025) - Garrett Alberson took the lead at the start of Friday night's 40-lap, $10,000-to-win main event and never looked back. He first held off Ricky Thornton Jr. for the first four laps, then Jonathan Davenport for several laps, and finally Devin Moran for the last 13 circuits to earn his first-ever win at Lernerville Speedway on the opening night of the 57th Annual Hillbilly 100 Presented by Summit Racing Equipment. Alberson led all 40 laps to earn his fourth career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing victory. Moran moved from fifth to second on a lap 27 restart and finished just 0.852 seconds behind. Hudson O'Neal moved from seventh to secure a spot on the Big River Steel Podium by claiming third place. Tim McCreadie finished fourth, followed by Ricky Thornton, Jr., who made a late race charge to reach fifth after dropping as low as eighth in the running order at the checkers, maintaining his series points lead heading into Saturday's $30,000-to-win Hillbilly Hundred. Alberson, who finished fourth in the track's signature event, the Firecracker 100, went to Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the third time this season on Friday night. "My guys did such a good job. Big thanks to Vinny (Guiliani); he came in with us and helped us get our program back together. I just tried to be a driver tonight. I tried not to overthink it and let my instincts take over. Man, the car worked really well; the track was intense. I kinda wanted to straighten the car out a little here and there, but every time I tried to ease up on it, there was somebody right beside us," said the driver from Las Cruces, New Mexico native. "I kind of took a lane over there, and when you do that, you kind of try to break a guy's momentum. I hope I didn't crowd anybody too much. I just had to change the momentum a little bit and then get back to what I was doing, being a little more disciplined with what I was doing in three and four so I wouldn't lose my speed across the center. Man, this is awesome." Moran, who suddenly became a contender for the win after starting eighth, climbed to second following a lap 27 restart. "For the Firecracker, we had some bad luck, and I felt like our results didn't reflect our speed. Coming here, starting eighth and finishing second was awesome. Kudos to Garrett for running a great race. I thought I had a chance in one and two, and I stuck my nose out, but I probably shouldn't have. Once I did, he (Alberson) moved down for three or four laps, which messed up my momentum. They did a great job, and so did my team. We've been working really hard and had to fight through a lot of challenges this year. We've had a really great race car here the last couple of weeks," said the Dresden, Ohio native. O'Neal, who started alongside Moram in row four, finished in third place. "Yeah, the car was really good. We struggled for the last couple of weeks, but we were able to test yesterday, and I think it really helped us. We've been working to improve our balance on these bigger race tracks because we struggled a little when we came here for the Firecracker. However, we opened up the notebook, and it turned out to be a really good night for us." - Sheppard Secures First Lucas Oil Victory of the Season at Atomic
CHILLICOTHE, OH (July 4, 2025) - Brandon Sheppard earned his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win of the season on Friday night, taking the Independence 50 at Atomic Speedway. Sheppard inherited the lead when race leader Carson Ferguson went pit side under a caution after leading the first four laps. Sheppard went on to lead the rest of the way and secure the $25,000 win. It was Sheppard's 33rd career victory with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing, tying him with Josh Richards. Josh Rice, who recovered after an oil leak was discovered before time trials, came from the 17th starting position to finish second. Jonathan Davenport rounded out the Big River Steel Podium in third. Davenport finished 5 points behind points leader Ricky Thornton Jr., who finished 16th after dropping out of the race while running in second. Davenport now leads Thornton by 55 points heading into Saturday's race at Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, Ohio. Daulton Wilson finished in fourth, with Donald McIntosh rounding out the top five drivers. Sheppard's visit to Lucas Oil Victory Lane is his first since February 8, 2024, at East Bay Raceway Park. "It feels so good. It's crazy that this was the place where we got our first Lucas Oil win this year. It's been a long time since I've won here. This place has been tough on me lately, but I can't thank my team enough for busting their tails this week to get this new car ready for us. Honestly, I've had the car messed up most of the year because of some stuff I was feeling in Florida, and we made some changes that caused more issues. I found some pretty good speed in my car during the Summer Nationals, so I told Mark what I did, and he said, well, that's where we should have been at the start of the year." Rice came home second after rallying from the inside of row nine. "I feel like I won the race about as badly as a comeback could be. It was probably the ugliest podium finish you will ever see from me. Like I said, we broke the oil line, my crew was covered in oil and everything else. We were goofing off and everything else six laps in, and I thought about pulling in. I was like, we got our start money. Then, it seemed like about eight cars broke, and more cars kept blowing up. After that long green flag run, I looked up on the board and saw I was in sixth. Daultin Wilson showed me the top down here in three and four. I was kind of decent, really, and then he showed me all the way around the top. That's when I really started to make up time." Davenport, coming off a red-hot month of June, where he won the Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora Speedway and his first Firecracker 100 at Lernerville Speedway, is positioning himself even better as he seeks his record-tying fourth series title. "It's something we've been searching for all year—getting the points lead. We got close to him (Thornton), but he pulled away again. I hate to take the points lead while he (Thornton) is having bad luck, but we've had our fair share of bad luck this year. In March, we spun out against a lapped car running second. Thanks to all of you fans for coming out and spending your Fourth of July with us. We appreciate it. I hope we put on a good show for you." The winner's Mark Richards Racing, Rocket Chassis is powered by a Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Valvoline, Seubert Calf Ranches, Franklin Enterprises, Petroff Towing, Gunter's Honey, Ace Metal Works, Stiles Marine and Maintenance, Rocket 1 Pre-Owned Motors, Collins Brothers Towing, and Sunoco Race Fuels. - Gamble: Jonathan Davenport can ‘check that one off’ after winning elusive Firecracker 100
There aren’t many major events left for Super Dirt Late Model star Jonathan Davenport to check off his career list, but the Firecracker 100 at Lernerville Speedway had remained elusive. That changed ...
- Jonathan Davenport Claims First Career Firecracker 100
SARVER, PA (June 21, 2025) - Jonathan Davenport checked off another bucket list win by capturing his first career Firecracker 100 presented by Experience Butler County on Saturday at Lernerville Speedway. Davenport became the 13th different driver to win the crown jewel event since its inception in 2007, capturing his 88th career victory in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing, worth $50,000. Davenport led 98 of the 100 laps but had to reclaim the lead from Ricky Thornton Jr. on lap 86 after a chaotic restart on lap 85. Once Davenport regained the lead, he went on to win the race, finishing ahead of Thornton, Max Blair, Garrett Alberson, and Mason Zeigler. Thornton, who last year became the first driver to win the race in back-to-back years, got off to a good start by leading the first circuit. However, that was short-lived as Davenport, who started third, charged into the lead on the second lap. Davenport and Thornton then ran one-two for 72 laps until Blair was able to pass Thornton for second place on the 73rd lap. Blair then stayed within shouting distance of Davenport until the sixth and final caution of the race was called with 84 laps completed. On the restart, Blair got a run on Davenport as the two made contact in turn four. Thornton slipped by both of them to take the lead for one lap (lap 85), but that was short-lived as Davenport regained the lead for good on lap 86 and went on to win. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the fifth time in 2025, Davenport now trails Thornton by just five points as they head into the series' next two events at Atomic and Muskingum County on July 4th and 5th. "Check that one off, I have had this one circled for a while. Thanks to all of you fans for coming out here, that was awesome. My car was really good there, and I don't know what happened on that one restart. I got hit by two different people there. I had been running the same line for a long time. I don't know what went on, it knocked the left front off of it and the steering rack is all messed up I couldn't hardly turn it and so the steering wheel was turning like a quarter turn after that it was all gas and brake and trying not to spin the tires," said the Blairsville, Georgia native. "I just couldn't steer at all down on that end anymore, and then I couldn't turn down in this hole like I needed to anymore. Anyway, thank goodness we held on, it was a little closer than I wanted it to be there at the end. I didn't really know what to do with those two lapped cars there, but I figured if I could stay just behind them and keep my speed up, and maybe someone couldn't slide in there." "I really felt like I got rolling there a couple of times, up through lapped traffic, once you get by the first two or three there, and then they kind of spread out and then run one line instead of all over the place. I knew the top was good, but I didn't know how good it was. There was just enough lip there so somebody could throw a Hail Mary for a couple of laps and get a good run on me, luckily that didn't happen, it was just an awesome race track." Thornton, who was looking to win the Firecracker for the third year in a row, was the only other leader of the race, leading two laps, and took home $20,000 for second place. "I went down in turn three and just caught the hole wrong and destroyed the left side of his (Davenport's) car. That's not how I wanted to pass him I had to slow down there going into one and let him get back in front of me. We race together too much to go in there and destroy a guy for the win. I felt like I needed to get a little bit better. Overall, it was a really good weekend for us. Congrats to JD, his stuff was really good, so I felt like if we could play in traffic a little bit long, but I didn't want to destroy two cars and each other and cause a bunch of yellows." Blair, who fell back as far as 11th in the running order, climbed to second after battling with Thornton for several laps, rounded out the Big River Steel Podium in third after falling back a spot in the frantic lap 85 restart, and collected $10,000 for third. "I don't know what really happened. I thought JD was entering a little higher, and I had a good run down the backstretch and charged it, and it didn't work out, and Ricky got back by. If that yellow didn't come out when I got to second, I think I may have had a shot at it, who knows how it would have played out in lapped traffic, but to run third to these two we will take that every day." The winner's Double Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Nutrien Ag Solutions, DynaGro Seed, ASC Warranty, Mark Martinn Automotive, Midwest Sheet Metal, and Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas. Completing the top ten were Hudson O'Neal, Gregg Satterlee, Chub Frank, Carson Ferguson, and Donald McIntosh.
