WHEATLAND, MO. (Aug. 22, 2026) - Ayrton Gennetten admitted the first portion of his season was a mighty struggle, but he's found speed as some of the biggest POWRi 410 Sprint races remain.
Gennetten, from Versailles, scored a flag-to-flag victory Saturday night in the Rod End Supply "Road to the Hockett" finale at Lucas Oil Speedway. He held off runner-up Ryder McCutcheon by just over one second for a $5,000 pay day.
Other winners were Riley Kreisel (POWRi WAR Sprints) and Gunnar Pike (IMCA RaceSaver 305 Sprints). Miles Paulus (POWRi 410s), Jack Wagner (POWRi WAR) and Randy Martin (IMCA RaceSaver 305s) won the Road to the Hockett mini-series points titles and clinched provisionals in their respective features at the Hockett-McMillin Memorial, Sept. 17-19.
The Hockett-McMillin Memorial recognizes the legacy of Jesse Hockett, from Warsaw, Mo., who was a star in both the winged and non-wing sprint divisions when he lost his life in a shop accident in 2010. His cousin and crew chief, Daniel McMillin, was killed in an automobile accident in 2006.
In the POWRi 410s, Gennetten set a blazing early pace, opening a one-second lead over McCutcheon by lap five. A lap-eight caution slowed the action on lap eight after McCutcheon had cut Gennetten's lead to a half-second.
Sixth-starting Blake Hahn rallied into third after the restart as Gennetten and McCutcheon continued to lead the way with eight-starting Ryan Timms in fourth.
Gennetten's lead was one-second when yellow on lap 17 waved for Timms' spin in turn two. Just as Gennetten was started to pull away, a lap 20 caution wiped out his .605-second lead due to a two-car incident in turns one and two.
That left Gennetten five laps to protect the top spot and he made it look routine, driving away to a 1.3-second triumph for his 12th career POWRi 410 victory.
"Just plain and simple, we started off sucking," Gennetten said. "Every time we were here, we were in the B Main. Tonight (crew members) Steve, Randy ance Ace did a great job working together and I just focused on my job, which was drive the race car.
"Every time we had a yellow the five car (McCutcheon) was trying to get in my head. I was like buddy, you don't know who you're messing with. You're not getting in my head, you're getting into your own."
Hahn finished third with Paulus fourth and Kyle Bellm fifth.
Gennetten's clean sweep began when he led the 410 Sprints in qualifying with a lap of 13.613 and continued with a heat-race victory.
Kreisel captures POWRi WAR Sprints: Riley Kreisel of Warsaw led all 20 laps to capture the POWRi WAR feature, staving off challengers on a late restart. It was his 13th career series win and first of the season, earning a $2,000 prize.
Kreisel and Wagner started on the front row and ran 1-2 while separating by the rest of the field by nearly three seconds by lap seven. The midway point on lap 10, Kreisel had a one-second margin over Wagner with Bryson Smith in third.
Kreisel continued to pull away as the race remained under green, expanding his command over Wagner to 2.7 seconds by lap. That's when the first caution appeared as fifth-running Wyatt Burks rolled to a stop.
Wesley Smith overtook Wagner for second on the restart before Wagner regained the position. That battled allowed the leader to ease away and Kreisel sailed to the checkers two seconds clear of Wagner.
Wagner was racing for only the sixth time this season after an accident early in the year. He said it bodes well going into the Hockett-McMillin Memorial.
"We unloaded early in the year and had really good speed at Double-X, then I got antsy and crashed it," Kreisel said. "We were having troubles with our speed at Knoxville. It was important to come here and get that speed back in the race car and let me know when we come for the big memorial race we're ready to rock."
The third-place was enough to give Jack Wagner the Road to the Hockett title in the WAR division, assuring him a spot in the big race next month.
Samuel Wagner was third with Bryson Smith fourth and Tom Curran fifth.
POWRi/WAR 305 Sprints win to Pike: Gunnar Crane of South Bend, Neb., hung on to take the IMCA RaceSaver 305 feature win by less than a second over hard-charging Austin Crane.
"This place is pretty neat," Crane said. "This is the first time I've ever been here and actually the first time I've ever seen it was today. We were racing (36 Speedway) last night and thought 'let's go down to Wheatland and try it out.' I"m gald we did."
Pike started up front and lead throughout with four caution flags plaguing the first half of the 20-lapper for the 305s.
Pike was 2.7 seconds in front on lap 12 when caution flew as third-running Landon Muehlberger spun to bring out another caution. On the restart, ninth-starting Austin Crane went from fourth to second and was applying pressure to the leader.
Pike was able to hang on to prevail over Crane by .753 seconds.
Brent Combs was third with Laney Moore fourth and Randy Martin, claiming the Road to the Hockett 305s title, was fourth.
