- Pursley Wins GLSS Feature During 4-Crown Nationals at Eldora
Daison Pursley charged from 11th starting spot to win the Great Lakes Super Sprints portion of the 4-Crown Nationals Friday night at Eldora Speedway.
- Riding High! GLSS Champion, Ridenour Snaps Five Year Winless Streak at Tri City Friday
Auburn, MI - In five years, almost to the day, since Chase Ridenour last went to victory lane, a lot has changed. Ridenour was with a different team. Smith Motorsports was en route to their first career Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP Championship. Phil Gressman was the defending Champion, and the world was pulling itself together amid a Global pandemic. Ridenour led the field to green alongside Mike Keegan. The pair battled closely on the opening lap for who would take hold of the field early. Ridenour put his No.38 to the pin and began his pursuit of the back of the field. Turns one and two were uniquely different from that of turns three and four at Tri-City on Friday night. The bottom was in early around the entire race track, but quickly the top of one and two became the preferred line and the bottom was the place to be in three and four. Keegan found that combination first and took the lead momentarily near the halfway point of the race, but Ridenour quickly crossed Keegan over in lapped traffic and was back out front. With less than 10 laps to go, Ridenour took lapped traffic three-wide to gap himself back to Jared Horstman and Dustin Daggett who had worked around Keegan in the traffic. Three former GLSS Champions at the front of the field was a thrill for a nearly packed house. With traffic clear inside of five laps to go, Horstman began reeling in Ridenour, but ran out of time as the Perry, Michigan native grabbed his first win since August 19, 2020 at Hartford Speedway. Horstman held on for second ahead of Daggett, Max Stambaugh fourth, and Keegan fifth. The next event for the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP is Sunday, August 31st at Crystal Motor Speedway for the final points race of the 2025 season. Stambaugh is likely to be crowned the Tour Champion for the fourth consecutive season, while Jared Horstman hopes to hold on for the MacAllister CAT Championship. Fans who can't make the trip can watch the action on GreatLakeSprints.TV. Phil Gressman won the Ti22 Performance Fast Qualifier Award. Engler Machine & Tool Heat Race One was won by Jared Horstman. Beacon & Bridge Markets Heat Race Two was won by Steve Irwin. Miami Paint Heat Race Three was won by Chase Ridenour. - Dryden & Christie Defend Canadian Turf in GLSS Invaision of Ontario
South Buxton, ON, CAN - For the second straight year, the Great Lakes Super Sprints (GLSS) Presented by PERFIT & ARP went international with trips to Ohsweken Speedway and Buxton Speedway in Ontario, Canada. This year, however, the stakes were higher for the American teams who made the trip through customs. A full slate of Tour Points was on the line both Friday and Saturday night. Friday's event at Ohsweken Speedway was one for the memory bank with track conditions unlike anything seen at Ohsweken Speedway in at least a decade. Heavy rain throughout the week led to a rough and technical surface that played right into the hands of drivers who were able to "cowboy up" and take on the challenging surface. Darren Dryden and Liam Martin were scheduled to lead the field to the green flag, however, Dryden jumped the initial start, moving him back a row, and giving Nick Sheridan the outside front row alongside Martin. Sheridan snuck around the outside and led the opening lap before Martin put his No.9 at the point on lap two. Meanwhile, Dryden was defending his third spot from Dylan Westbrook before he took on Sheridan for the second spot when Sheridan tried to make a move for the lead for the lead. In turns one and two, Dryden put his No.12DD back out front. On lap nine, trouble struck for Liam Martin when he got bucked out of turn four and leaped over the inside wall in turn four. Martin was unable to continue. Dryden had no issue on two restarts that followed prior to the 10-lap-to-go mark. Then, with four to go, the race was stopped when Tyler Powless flipped in turn four just in front of Dryden, who was able to avoid the flipping No.77T. On the restart, Dryden drove away to collect his first career win at Ohsweken Speedway and his second ever win with GLSS. Then, on Saturday at Buxton Speedway, Ryan Turner and D.J. Christie led the field to the green flag. Christie jumped out to the early lead, leaving Turner to try and defend his second spot. Coming to complete lap two, Liam Martin and Skyler Evans got together in turns three and four, sending Evans into the spin cycle and collecting Dylan Westbrook in the process. Another restart with 20 laps to go brought the field back together just as Christie was preparing to navigate lapped traffic. The remaining 20 laps went green, forcing Christie to work his way through heavy lapped traffic while holding off Turner. The track record holder at Crystal Motor Speedway closed to within a half second in traffic, but couldn't reel in Christie in the closing laps. D.J. Chrisite held on for his first career GLSS win. The next event for the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints is Friday, August 29th, at Tri City Motor Speedway in Auburn, Michigan. Then, the Championship event is Sunday, August 31st, at Crystal Motor Speedway. Jared Horstman will try to hold on to the MacAllister CAT Division points lead, while Max Stambaugh hopes to steal the third piece of the GLSS trifecta while securing his fourth consecutive GLSS Tour title. Fans who can't make the trip this weekend can catch the action both Friday and Sunday on GreatLakesSprints.TV. For more on the Great Lakes Super Sprints, visit GreatLakesSprints.com. - CHRISTIE CLAIMS BUXTON SOS/GLSS WIN
MERLIN, Ont. (August 23, 2025) - DJ Christie claimed the win on Saturday night at Buxton Speedway in a co-sanctioned event with the Southern Ontario Sprints and Great Lakes Super Sprints series. Ryan Turner and DJ Christie made up the front row, and Christie led all 25 laps on the fast high-banked Chatham-Kent oval. A melee on lap two saw Dylan Westbrook, Skyler Evans, and Jared Horstman taken out of contention, although Horstman was able to stay in the race. Christie drove a flawless race in and out of heavy traffic. While he led all the laps, his advantage was never more than half a second, and was down to 0.066 seconds with two laps to go. Christie was able to lock down the win worth $2,500 USD over Ryan Turner, Liam Martin, Dustin Daggett, and Darren Dryden. Skyler Evans set a new track record in time trials with a lap of 13.114 seconds, giving the 14-year-old the Ackland Insurance Quick Time award. Jacob Dykstra won The Drivers Project Hard Charger award. Darren Dryden leads the SOS standings by just eight points over Ryan Turner with the end of the season in sight. Many other spots within the top ten are also up for grabs. The next SOS events are the Northern Sprint Car Nationals weekend at Ohsweken Speedway on September 12 and September 13, while the season will conclude with the finale of the Gold Crown Series at Merrittville on October 4. - Mann, What a Race! Jett Mann Captures First Career GLSS Win at Butler Saturday
Quincy, MI - The second night of a doubleheader weekend brought some different drivers to the table, hoping to find victory lane with the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP. A mix of championship hopefuls and ringers looking for a win put on an intense show for fans at Butler Motor Speedway. Alongside Boston Mead, Jett Mann led the field to the green ahead of the 25-lap main event on Saturday night. Mann held off Dustin Daggett and Jared Horstman to lead the opening lap. Mead fought back into third behind Daggett putting Horstman back to fourth ahead of Chase Ridenour. The first caution flag of the night came out just four laps in when Phil Gressman spun at the bottom of turn one. On the restart, things remained relatively unchanged throughout the field until the halfway mark of the race when the leaders started working through heavy lapped traffic. On lap 15, Mann missed the bottom entering turn one, opening the door for Daggett to get to his inside. Daggett took the lead down the backstretch and now had the task of navigating lapped traffic. The pass for the lead allowed Boston Mead to work back into the conversation for the top spot. With eight laps to go, Daggett caught a piece of the tractor tire exiting the turn, which gave Mann a run going into three. Entering the turn, Daggett was taking a big arch to try to get under a lapped car, opening the door for Mann on the extreme bottom. The pair made contact and bumped side-by-side several times until the center of the corner, when Mann was able to drive away, and Daggett spun to the bottom of the track which was the preferred line. Daggett attempted to hit the spin cycle and drive out of the incident, but with heavy traffic coming into three, officials called a caution which sent the No.85 to the tail, setting up a final restart with less than 10 to go. Mann was able to hold off Mead and Jared Horstman for his first career GLSS Feature victory in just his second start since a vicious crash at I-96 Speedway in June. The next event for the Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP is Friday, August 22nd from Ohsweken Speedway in Ontario, Canada, and Saturday, August 23rd from Buxton Speedway. Fans who can't make the trip can catch the action live on www.GreatLakesSprints.TV. Max Stambaugh set the Ti22 Performance Quick Time. Max Stambaugh won Engler Machine & Tool Heat Race one. Dustin Daggett won Beacon & Bridge Market Heat Race two. Jett Mann won Miami Pain Heat Race three. - Lucky 7s! Horstman Earns 7th GLSS Win of the Season from 7th
Lake Odessa, MI - Nearly two-dozen cars were on the property Friday night at I-96 Speedway for the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP to kick off a doubleheader weekend of racing. After a couple weeks of struggles, Jared Horstman returned to championship form in an impressive performance. Scotty Thiel, the most recent winner at I-96 with GLSS, led the field to the green flag alongside 2016 GLSS champion, Chase Ridenour. Thiel jumped out to the early lead in turn one, but fifth starting Dustin Daggett was quickly on his heels going into turn three and nearly led the opening lap. A caution just three laps in set the stage for great racing inside the top five. From the seventh spot, Jared Horstman was methodically working up the ladder. Running fifth on lap five, calamity unfolded in front of Horstman when Chase Dunham and Chase Ridenour came together at the exit of turn four. The contact sent Dunham flipping into the catch fence on the front stretch and Ridenour pirouetting in the air. As the two were wrecking, Horstman caught a piece of the action with the nose wing of his No.17. Dunham and Ridenour were ok but unable to continue. As the field was refired after the red flag, Thiel's Ragged Edge Racing No.51 wouldn't lock into gear, prompting a trip to the work area and realigning Thiel at the tail of the field. That handed the lead over to Daggett, and thanks to the crash and Thiel's mechanical issues, Horstman was now in second. On the restart, Daggett was able to keep his distance from Horstman; anywhere from half a second to a second the advantage. With two laps to go, Daggett tried to pass a lapped car on the bottom of turns one and two, unable to complete the pass, Daggett lost all momentum and Horstman was able to get to his inside down the backstretch and complete the pass in three and four. The race wasn't over yet for Horstman, with Championship rival Max Stambaugh, who was running sixth, ahead of him, Horstman threaded the needle between the No.71H and the outside wall to put distance between himself and Daggett. Thiel rallied back to finish third, Ryan Ruhl fourth, and Mike Keegan completed the top five. The next event for the Great Lakes Super Sprints is Saturday, August 16th at Butler Motor Speedwya in Quincy, MI. The GLSS will be in action alongside the weekly 410 Sprint Cars. Fans who can't make the trip can catch all the action live on www.GreatLakesSprints.TV. On a night where being smooth on the bottom of the race track mattered Jason Blonde and Jett Mann won the winged 410 sprint car and Great Lakes Super Sprints feature events respectively Saturday at Butler Motor Speedway
- On Cloud Nine! Stambaugh Earns Ninth GLSS Win Saturday at Silver Bullet
Owendale, MI - In 2017, on his way to his first career Great Lakes Super Sprints Championship, Jared Horstman collected a record 11 feature wins. After Saturday night's event with the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP, Stambaugh is now within two wins of the record. Alex Clute and Phil Gressman led the field to the green flag ahead of 25 laps on Saturday night. Gressman jumped out to the early lead as Stambaugh and Mike Keegan hustled three wide around Clute. On lap 11 in heavy lapped traffic, Stambaugh found the outside of the race track which had been bottom-dominant all night long. Stambaugh ripped around Gressman down the backstretch before setting sail out front. Meanwhile, the rest of the top five were bumper-to-bumper trying to gain position. Gressman, Keegan, and Dustin Daggett negotiated the terms for the final rung of the podium amid thick lapped traffic. With less than five laps to go, Daggett moved into the second spot while Gressman held off Keegan and a charging Jared Horstman. At the finish, Max Stambaugh collected his ninth win of the season ahead of Daggett, Gressman, Keegan, and Horstman. With the win, Stambaugh moves into second on the all-time Great Lakes Super Sprints wins list with 27. He trails Horstman who has 31. Stambaugh extends his lead in the Tour Championship standings and closes in on Horstman for the MacAllister CAT Division with just four races remaining in Michigan and six on the Tour. The next event for the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints is Friday, August 15th at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan before going to Butler Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 16th. Fans who can't make the trip can catch the action on GreatLakesSprints.Tv. Michigan CAT A Feature 1 (25 Laps): 1. 71H-Max Stambaugh[3]; 2. 85-Dustin Daggett[5]; 3. 7C-Phil Gressman[2]; 4. Max Stambaugh won Miami Paint Heat Race Three. Chase Dunham was the Operating Engineers 324 Hard Charger.
- Howl at the Moon! Chase Dunham Wins First Career GLSS Race Friday at Hartford Speedway
Hartford, MI - In a season that has seen Jared Horstman and Max Stambaugh combine for 14 feature wins, a first-time winner didn't seem to be in the cards. Friday night, with a full moon in the sky, the only thing that was going to keep Dunham for finding Victory Lane with the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP, was himself. Starting on the outside of the front row alongside veteran Van Gurley, Jr, Dunham jumped out to a quick lead and put distance between himself and the field in a hurry. That scenario has been done by the No.66 car before, and the end result hasn't been what he's been hoping for thus far. With just six laps on the board, Dunham was working to the inside of lapped traffic at the exit of turn number four when he made contact with the inside wall with his left front tire. Somehow, Dunham was able to continue and didn't lose much time to Gurley and Stambaugh. Another potential race-losing moment came inside of 10 laps to go when Dunham's car stepped completely sideways entering turn three behind a lapped car. Dunham was able to straighten the car out but not before Stambaugh cut the gap down to just four car lengths. With eight laps to go, the only caution of the race flew for Keith Sheffer, Jr, who caught the wall in turn three and slowed to a stop on the front stretch. The caution was a potential break for Dunham who was falling to the grips of Stambaugh in traffic. However, Dunham revealed in victory lane that the car was overheating throughout that entire race including under caution. On the restart, Dunham put the No.66 on the top of the race track and set sail, holding off Stambaugh and Jared Horstman, who found the final rung of the podium with a two-for-one deal on Van Gurley and Corbin Gurley in turn two. Dunham successfully navigated lapped traffic for the final five laps and went on to collect his first career GLSS win, his first win since 2021. "I think it's about damn time," Dunham said in victory lane. "We led a couple of weeks ago at I-96 Speedway, we've been up front, it just feels like a thousand pounds has been lifted off of me. There's been no pressure from my dad or any of our sponsors, just me. I tried to give it away. The motor probably isn't great, I looked under that caution and [the temperature gauge] was about pegged, and [dad] told me to keep going. It's just me and my dad this weekend, but this is pretty damn cool." The next event for the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP is Saturday, August 9th at Silver Bullet Speedway in Owendale, MI. Racing begins at 7:00 PM. Fans who can't make the trip can catch every lap on www.GreatLakesSprints.TV. Chase Dunham set the Ti22 Performance Fast Time with a 14.936. Jared Horstman won Engler Machine & Tool Heat Race One. Van Gurley, Jr won Beacon & Bridge Markets Heat Race Two. Max Stambaugh won Miami Paint Heat Race Three. Jett Mann was the Operating Engineers 324 Hard Charger advancing eight positions.
