- Eddie Tafoya Jr. Ready for Perris' Biggest Sprint Car Night of 2025
Chino Hills, CA — September 7, 2025 — After a weekend off following three straight nights of racing in Northern California, Eddie Tafoya Jr. returns to action this Saturday, September 13th, when Perris Auto Speedway hosts its biggest sprint car program of the season. Tafoya will pilot his familiar #51T in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series that sharing the spotlight with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars in a rare and exciting open-wheel doubleheader. The 27-year-old Chino Hills, California racer comes into the event with momentum, fresh off his best finish of 2025 — a fourth-place run in the Ultimate Sprint Car Series at Petaluma Speedway on Labor Day. In just his second career start with the USCS, and his first appearance at Petaluma since 2019, Tafoya charged forward from seventh on the grid to secure the top-five result on the tight 3/8-mile oval. Earlier that evening, Tafoya was third-fastest in his qualifying group, seventh overall of the 20 cars on hand and recorded a third-place finish in his 10-lap heat race. "The night went well," Tafoya said of Petaluma. "The track changes a lot. You kind of start tightening up the car and then go back to where you started for the main event. Just had to make sure the car was drivable after the two previous nights." The strong Petaluma outing came on the heels of Tafoya's participation in the historic reopening of Calistoga Speedway over Labor Day weekend. Racing returned to the iconic half-mile for the first time in six years in front of sellout crowds. On night one, Tafoya timed in eighth-fastest among 34 cars, finished fifth in his heat, and transferred through the B-main before ending the A-main in 16th. Night two saw him post the 18th-quickest qualifying lap, grab a second in his heat, and lock into the feature, where he placed 18th. "I was pretty excited to go back there," Tafoya said of his return to the big half mile. " I am always happy to go to big fast racetracks. Unfortunately, the results didn't necessarily pan out how we wanted but we still had fun up there. The first night I had a good starting spot in eighth. I just think I was way to tight. I was trying to compensate on how slick the dirt was getting but then it ended up getting rough so I was kind of caught in a sticky situation. I was just stuck." "The second night, it felt a lot better in the heat race and I almost won it," Tafoya continued. " In the main, we had a right rear shock let go. So I was all over the place and on the verge of being out of control, so I brought it in early." Tafoya, the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year, will now look to build on that experience as he tackles one of the biggest stages of the season at Perris Auto Speedway. "I really do not think about it once I am inside the racecar," Tafoya said when asked about racing in front of big crowds. "It is definitely cool to see afterwards when the people come down and appreciate the things we do. We are definitely small compared to a lot of other motorsports so its nice to have some recognition." Event Info: Date: Saturday, September 13, 2025 Location: Perris Auto Speedway, 18700 Lake Perris Drive, Perris, CA Tickets: Advance tickets available at worldofoutlaws.com. Plenty of walk-up tickets will also be available. Track Info: perrisautospeedway.com | 951-940-0134 Tafoya can be followed on Instagram at @eddietafoya51. - USAC Sprint leader Cummins aims for more Lucas Oil Speedway magic at Rod End Supply Diamond Dirt Duel
WHEATLAND, MO. (Sept. 4, 2025) - When Kyle Cummins makes just his second appearance at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday, the Indiana native can only hope things go as well as his previous time on the Wheatland dirt. It was 2018 when Cummins drove to victory in the non-winged portion of the Jesse Hockett-Daniel McMillin Memorial. That remains one of the memorable wins that Cummins, 38, has picked up during his successful open-wheel racing career. "We ran like third or fourth on our prelim night and then won the finale," Cummins said. "I have not been there since, but definitely looking forward to seeing how things go this time. That's a very, very nice place with everything. The pits, the grandstands. It's a nice facility. "We didn't take many notes back in the day, but hopefully we have a little bit of thought. At least I've ran there once so I know a little bit how the track works." Cummins continues his pursuit of a USAC AMSOIL National Sprint championship on Saturday when USAC returns to Wheatland for the first time since 2006 for the Rod End Supply Diamond Dirt Duel. The 30-lap feature will pay $6,000 to the winner. Cummins, a second-generation open-wheel racer from Princeton, Ind., leads the championship standings by 258 points over Mitchel Moles of Raisin City, California. Logan Seavey, of Cutter, California., is third 276 behind Cummins. After a fast start to the season, with a feature win in the opener at Volusia Speedway Park and five feature wins in the first 11 events, Cummins has put himself in great position to win his first USAC championship in his second season with Petty Performance Racing. "We started the season really strong and kind of had some bad luck here and there," Cummins said. "We've got the monkey off our back a little bit of late and found some stuff with the car. We're on car number three now. We've tore up some stuff and kind of learning this one. "All in all we're pretty excited about how things are going and looking forward to finishing these last 15 races strong and trying to get a couple of more wins and have a good finish to the season." Following in the footsteps of his father, Mark Cummins, since opening in open karts at age nine, Kyle Cummins developed into one of the top sprint car racers in the Midwest. He's the all-time winningest driver of the Midwest Sprint Car Series and a five-time champion in that series. It wasn't until a fast start to the USAC National Tour in 2023 that Cummins began to think about chasing a national championship. He faded that season and realized that upgrades were needed to pursue such an endeavor. "The last two years we've decided to run for it and be fully prepared, have all the stuff ready," Cummins said. "We built this new team with Petty Performance and that's been the goal. Last year was kind of a building season, to take some notes and do a lot of trial and error, working some stuff with the car to give us a really good baseline. "We started out this season really strong and that's been the goal from the get-go, from at least 2024 that was the plan, to win the championship." Cummins said the competition level on the USAC National series is rugged. There's no such thing as resting on your laurels, even with a sizable points lead. "It seems like the top 8-10 guys could win any night. It's definitely tough," Cummins said. "Everyone has the same goal, they all want to win. It's like all sports, any one can win on a given night and you just give it your best shot and see how things go. "We have a decent-sized lead. We just need to finish out strong and not let up and hopefully the last couple of races we won't have any pressure and can just go out and have fun." Cummins won the 2018 Hockett-McMillin by leading all 30 laps of the feature, outlasting Wyatt Burks and Colton Cottle for the win. While he didn't know Jesse Hockett well, that win remains a special one. "I know a lot of people have come there trying to win it and for us to show up the first time and win it, that was pretty exciting," Cummins said. "To kind of look back over your career and see some of those more prestigious wins, that makes it a little more special." INEX Legends in for Super Stocks as support class: A late schedule switch will see INEX Legends running as support class on Saturday. In April, Lucas Oil Speedway had the opportunity to add the USAC National Sprints and, at that time, it was decided that the Hickamo Super Stocks would be the support division. This was scheduled not knowing it conflicted with Nevada Speedway's Lehmann Memorial. Lucas Oil Speedway feels it's important for all local tracks to be mindful of their neighbors' special events, so the Hickamo Super Stocks will not run this Saturday with those competitors encouraged to support Nevada Speedway. Lucas Oil Speedway's pit gates open at 3 p.m. Saturday with grandstands at 4 p.m., hot laps at 6:30 and racing at 7:05. Grandstand General Admission: Adults (13 and up) - $28 Seniors (62 and over & military) - $25 Youth (ages 6-12) - $10 Kids (5 and under) - FREE Family pass (two adults and up to three youth) - $66 Pit pass - $45 (Credit/debit card fees will be applied at time of purchase at gates) For information on admission or camping for any Lucas Oil Speedway event in 2025, contact Admissions Director Nichole McMillan at (417) 282-6119 or (417) 295-6043 or email her at nmcmillan@lucasoilspeedway.com for more information. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Heads North for Labor Day Weekend Tripleheader
Chino Hills, CA — August 28, 2025 — For the first time since 2021, Chino Hills, California, sprint car racer Eddie Tafoya Jr. is heading to Northern California for three big races over Labor Day weekend. The now-veteran driver will kick things off this Saturday and Sunday, August 30th and 31st, competing in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series 14th Annual Louie Vermeil Classic at the legendary Calistoga Speedway. On Labor Day Monday, he'll make the short trip to Petaluma Speedway to battle with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series. The weekend at Calistoga is one of the most highly anticipated events on the West Coast in 2025. Shuttered since 2019, the picturesque half-mile clay oval seemed doomed until the city purchased the fairgrounds property, bringing racing back to the historic venue. For 28-year-old Tafoya, it will be just his second trip to Calistoga. The last time he raced there came on September 1, 2019 — the track's final event before the shutdown — during the season he earned USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year honors. That night he qualified 16th in a 24-car field, started 16th, and finished 15th in the main event. His most recent outing at Petaluma Speedway came in 2021, when he placed 11th in the USAC/CRA main event on the tight 3/8-mile clay oval after returning from a summer racing stint in Indiana. Tafoya heads north after an impressive performance two weeks ago at Perris Auto Speedway. A violent qualifying crash left his car badly damaged, but he and his crew went to work immediately, thrashing in the pits to get the #51T ready for his heat race. Forced to start at the rear of both his heat and the 30-lap main due to not recording a qualifying time, Tafoya charged forward spectacularly. After starting eighth in his eight-lap heat race, he advanced to fourth in the heat. In the main, he started 24th, steered his car impressively through the pack, and avoided the on-track chaos. All told, he passed 16 cars in the feature to finish 8th and capture the In Memory of Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award. Fans unable to make the trip to Northern California can catch both nights of the Louie Vermeil Classic live on Flo Racing, with coverage beginning at 5:00 p.m. PDT. Tafoya can be followed on Instagram at @eddietafoya51. The Tafoya Racing team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for their continued support of the 2025 season. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Set to Return to Action at Perris, Calistoga, and Placerville
Chino Hills, CA — August 4, 2025 — After a brief summer break, Eddie Tafoya Jr. is ready to get back behind the wheel when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series returns to Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday, August 16th. The race marks the beginning of a busy late-summer schedule for the driver of the Specialty Fasteners #51T. Following the Perris event, Tafoya and the team will head north for one of the most anticipated weekends in recent sprint car history — the grand re-opening of the legendary Calistoga Speedway on August 30th and 31st. The doubleheader promises to be a major highlight on the USAC/CRA calendar. Then, on September 1st, Tafoya will cap off the Labor Day holiday weekend by competing with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series at Placerville Speedway. Prior to the break, Tafoya raced at his home track, Perris Auto Speedway, on July 19th — just 10 days after celebrating his 28th birthday. Though the final result wasn't what he'd hoped for, the Southern California veteran showed speed and poise throughout the night. He qualified a strong seventh fastest out of 21 cars with a lap of 16.875. In his heat race, the 2018 PAS Young Gun Champion and 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year started and finished fourth in a stacked field. That set him up in the seventh position for the 30-lap main event. In front of the second-largest crowd of the season, Tafoya jumped into a fierce battle for fifth place early in the main. Showing the speed to challenge for a top-four spot, his momentum was unfortunately stalled by lapped traffic. After clearing a slower car, Tafoya's night took an unfortunate turn when he came to a stop in turn one, ending his charge. Despite the setback, Tafoya's performance showed his car and confidence are in the right place heading into the late-season stretch. "I just have to eliminate the mistakes and figure how to get around traffic when it gets slick like that," Tafoya said. "I was dealing with traffic and switching lines every lap. The lapper would go to where I switched to. I was just kind of going back and forth. I finally got a good run down the front straight. I just held it on a little longer than I should have just to get around the lapper. Then I got in the slick and locked up the brakes and slid to a stop." Forced to restart at the back of the field with only limited laps remaining, the odds were stacked against him. But Tafoya wasn't done. He mounted a determined comeback, charging through the field and clawing his way back to a 10th-place finish at the checkered flag — a clear indicator of the team's pace and persistence. "I thought for a second there we were going to start on the front row again (after qualifying), but we missed it by .01," Tafoya commented about the night of racing. "That definitely could have changed the way that main event went for us." "I am happy with the speed, and I think I have been driving good," he continued. "I just have to focus and put it all together on the same night. I have been trying to put myself in a good position and we have been doing that lately. Part of it is mental and part is car set up and stuff like that. Knowing that you have enough to be up there, we have definitely been showing that lately." Fans can follow Tafoya on Instagram eddietafoya51. Tafoya and the #51T team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for supporting their 2025 racing endeavors. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Looks for First 2025 Win at Perris Auto Speedway This Saturday
Chino, CA - July 17, 2025 — Coming off his best Perris Auto Speedway finish of the 2025 season, a fifth-place result on June 21st, Eddie Tafoya Jr. will return to the Riverside County half-mile clay oval this Saturday night, July 19th. Spectator gates at the 29-year old speed plant will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first race will be at 7:00. For Tafoya, who recently celebrated his 28th birthday, it will be his fifth start of 2025 at Perris. In the first four races at the track this year, he has achieved three top-10 finishes. Besides his fifth-place showing last month, he came home eighth at the track on April 5th and was ninth in the annual Salute to Indy at the end of May. His fifth-place run last month equaled his performance at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway on February 22nd. The only race at Perris this year that he did not finish in the top 10 occurred on March 1st, when his belts came loose in the car, and he finished 13th. Before the 30-lap main event last month, Tafoya qualified sixth fastest in the 20 car field. He then placed fourth in his 10-lap heat race. The Chino Hills, California resident started on the pole and led the first seven laps of the main event. He ended up taking fifth after a tough battle for positions five through 10 late in the race. On Saturday, Tafoya, the 2018 Perris Auto Speedway Young Guns Sprint Car Champion and the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year, will only be making his third July appearance at the local track since the end of Covid. In 2021, he finished third in the July race on the oval affectionately known as The PAS, and last year he was seventh. In 2022 and 2023, he spent July racing with the USAC National Sprint Car Series in the Midwest. To see Tafoya and the rest of the USAC/CRA stars in action on Saturday, spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m., and the first green flag will wave at 7:00. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Matches Season-Best with 5th-Place Finish at Perris Auto Speedway
Chino, CA - June 26, 2025 — Eddie Tafoya Jr. matched his best finish of the 2025 Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series season last Saturday night by placing fifth at Perris Auto Speedway. The strong showing marked his third consecutive top 10 finish in the prestigious 21-year-old open-wheel series. Piloting the immaculate Specialty Fasteners #51T, Tafoya set the tone early by qualifying sixth fastest against a stacked field. He backed up that performance with a fourth-place result in the third eight-lap heat race on the breezy evening. Thanks to his stellar qualifying run, the Chino Hills, California native earned the pole position for the 30-lap main event. The 2018 PAS Young Guns Champion and 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year wasted no time asserting himself, charging into the lead as starter Steve Russell waved the green flag. Tafoya, who turns 28 on July 9th, set a blistering pace and led the opening seven laps before slipping to second. As the race settled into the gritty, elbows-up action that Perris is known for, he remained in the top five and became embroiled in a fierce battle for position. His determination paid off, as he held strong to secure fifth at the checkered flag, matching his February 22nd result at Mohave Valley Raceway. While Tafoya is not chasing points in 2025, his consistency continues to impress. Saturday's finish vaulted him to 12th in the championship standings—remarkable considering he has entered only seven of the first ten events on the calendar. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Returns to His Home Track, Perris Auto Speedway, This Saturday
Chino, CA - June 19, 2025 — Popular sprint car racer Eddie Tafoya Jr. will return to action this Saturday night, June 21st, when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series visits Perris Auto Speedway. The historic half-mile clay oval in Riverside County is considered the home track for both the 21-year-old series and the Chino Hills, California native. Saturday's event was originally scheduled to be Tafoya's sixth series appearance of the year at Perris. However, two events earlier in the season were canceled due to rain. That means this weekend marks just the fourth 2025 outing at the track, located less than 30 minutes from Tafoya's home. Tafoya, who drives the eye-catching #51T sprint car, recorded his best Perris finish of the year on April 5th when he placed eighth. He backed that up with a solid ninth-place run in the prestigious Salute to Indy on May 24th. His top finish overall in the USAC/CRA Series so far this year came at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway, where he finished fifth. Saturday's race will be Tafoya's 14th start of the 2025 season, spanning the USAC/CRA Series, the USAC National Sprint Car Series, and the Ultimate Sprint Car Series. His most recent appearance came two weeks ago when the Ultimate Series competed at Bakersfield Speedway. Tafoya recorded another top 10 finish when he placed ninth that night. Though Tafoya is not chasing points full-time in 2025, he has entered six of the first nine USAC/CRA races. Despite missing three events, he still sits 15th in the championship standings — a testament to his consistency and competitive performances. To see Tafoya in person on Saturday, spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m., and the first green flag will wave at 7:00.
