- Schlenk gets thrilling late race late model win at Fremont; Valenti defends home turf in trucks verses stock cars
FREMONT, Ohio - The late models made their only appearance of the year at Fremont Speedway Presented by Gill Construction Friday, Oct. 11 and the wait was worth it. Rusty Schlenk and Ryan Missler battled each other and heavy lapped traffic the final eight laps with Schlenk using a lapped car to take the lead at the white flag and hanging on for his third career feature win at "The Track That Action Built" on Black Swamp Heating & Cooling Presented by Underground Utilities Inc. Night. It was the season finale for Fremont Speedway which honored the late hall of famer De Genzman. Missler led the first 28 laps of the 30-lap affair while Schlenk, who started sixth, drove up to third in just two laps. Missler saw a nearly five second lead disappear when a caution flew on lap 12. Missler drove away when the green flew again over Colin Shipley, Schlenk, Devin Shiels and Jeff Babcock. Just past the half way point Schlenk took second and quickly began closing on Missler as they raced into heavy lapped traffic and setting up the dramatic final three laps. Following the checkers - which saw the top five finishes as Schlenk, Missler, Babcock, Shiels and Shipley - Missler drove into Schlenk. "We gotta race with that spineless (bleep) all year long every year so he's got one coming after that. I was in the damn infield down the back straight-away…I couldn't get any lower on the race track. It's not my fault he came out of turn two behind a lapped car and had nowhere to go. He tried running me over and pushing me into a tire and I hit the tire and held onto the lead so it shows who the better driver was in that aspect," said Schlenk of his 11th win of 2024 which was worth $5,353. "I say it every time I'm in victory lane here…man I wish this place would run us every week. I love this place," added Schlenk beside his Buckeye Concrete Coatings, Terry Henricks Auto Group, Velocita USA, Dominator Race Products, Tom Finch Auto, Domination Race Cars, All Star Performance backed #91. Fremont Speedway's Burmeister Trophy Dirt Trucks took on the street stocks and the feature turned out to be a crash fest with only six of the 20 starters taking the checkered flag. Fostoria, Ohio's Shawn Valenti took the lead on lap four from Josh Robertson, survived five cautions and drove away to his eighth win of 2024 at Fremont over Robertson, Gabe Mueller, Adam Lantz, and 19th starter Zeth Sabo. Valenti's win moved him atop the track's all-time win list with 82 victories. "I know Paul Weaver (who has 81 wins at Fremont) was here tonight and I know he will be back battling with me. It's good to break the tie and go into this off-season with the lead. It felt good to put it on the stock car guys tonight and defend our home turf. This is just an amazing truck and an amazing crew I have behind me," said Valenti beside his Craig Miller Trucking, Conrad Transportation, Dave Story Equipment, A Plus Auto Center, Concrete Material Supply, S&S Hauling and Excavating backed #7B. - Cap Henry earns richest win in history of Fremont Speedwa
FREMONT, Ohio - Cap Henry wrote his name in the Fremont Speedway record books Saturday, Sept. 14, winning the 17th Annual Jim Ford Classic on All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Gill Construction Night. Henry's third win of the season at "The Track That Action Built" was worth $20,000. He also added another $10,000 in bonus money by leading all 40-laps. Henry, the track's 2023 Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprint track champion, won his eighth total feature of 2024 and his 21st career win at the track. Winning the Jim Ford Classic adds to his incredible list of accomplishments in 2024 including taking the Ohio Sprint Speedweek title and the All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series title. "I knew I had to get a good jump at the start. Kalib (Henry) has been so good here this year. Zack and Chad and Chris and Jeff and Gary have worked their tails off all year and gave me a perfect car tonight. I was able to maneuver in traffic. Gary Griff built this engine for us to run Eldora and Knoxville….it's a damn good engine. We've run second in this race so many times and to finally get a Jim Ford Classic win is very special," said Henry beside his Premier Planning Service, Jeff Ward Demolition, Ohio Logistics, Primal Tee Shop, Elliott's Custom Trailers and Carts, FK Rod Ends, Griff's Engines backed #33W. For Kalib Henry second was a disappointment after having won both features at Fremont the previous evening. "We were really good but Cap was just better tonight. Second sucks….I really wanted that race, but it was a good weekend and we will give it a shot next Saturday to wrap up the track championship. Thanks to Doc and Rebecca and all the guys who make this possible," said Henry. Craig Mintz rallied from a crash the previous evening to finish third with Trey Jacobs and Stuart Brubaker rounding out the top five. Cale Thomas charged from 20th starting position to a sixth place run while Darin Naida, TJ Michael (from 15th), Zane DeVault (from 14th) and Larry Kingseed rounding out the top 10. The Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints competed in two 20-lap features. In the first current Fremont division point leader Jamie Miller took the lead from Seth Schneider on lap six and drove to his fourth win of the season at Fremont over Dustin Stroup, Dustin Dinan, Jimmy McGrath and Logan Riehl. The win is Miller's 10th overall win of 2024 in 305 sprint car competition to go with three dirt truck wins and a non-wing sprint car victory. It was also Miller's 52nd career win at Fremont. "Thank God for that caution (lap 15). Stroupy sailed it in there between me and a lapped car and got in front but the yellow came out. With no traffic to deal with the car was just really good," said Miller beside his Boca Construction, JLH General Contractors, Kenny Kolb Farms, Tuck Pointing America, Queen of Clean, Smitty's Pizza, Roberts & Sons Contracting, Pizza Wheel, Crown Battery, Reedtown Tavern, Fostoria Mod Shop, Sandy's Dad, Gressman Powersports, Phil Rister, Slade Shock Technology backed #26. In the second 305 feature Jimmy McGrath jumped into the early lead with Stroup taking the lead on lap three only to see McGrath drive back by a lap later with Stroup retaking the lead on lap five. Stroup continued to lead with a few cautions keep McGrath close. A caution with five laps to go gave McGrath a chance and he put the wing back and went after Stroup. The pair sliced and diced back and forth with Stroup continually holding the point at the flag stand. Stroup was able to hold off McGrath's challenges to take his third win of the year at Fremont. It was his fifth overall victory of 2024 and his 12 career win at the track. McGrath, Dinan, Riehl and TJ Michael rounded out the top five. "I made the car very wide those last five laps. Jimmy raced me hard and clean. I can't thank Renee and Jamie enough for giving me the opportunity to drive this car and all the sponsors we couldn't do this without them," said Stroup beside his Sulfur Town Pub, BSE Welding, Meru Safety, Velocity Print, The Pizza House, Sunrise Designs, Momma Dukes from Shelluke's Bar and Grill, GCE LLC, Handy Grafix, Mitten Painting, Myers Racing Engines, Rohr Total Lawn Care, Eye Candy Custom Cycles, DJ Johnson & Family, GWH, Advance Auto Parts, BRS, J&J Auto backed #12x. Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 21 for season championship night with the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints, Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints and Burmeister Trophy Dirt Trucks in action. - Kalib Henry sweeps opening night of Jim Ford Classic at Fremont
FREMONT, Ohio - Kalib Henry was unstoppable at Fremont Speedway presented by Gill Construction Friday, Sept. 13. The Sacramento, Calif. Driver started the 17th Annual Jim Ford Classic weekend out by winning the June Ohio Sprint Speedweek $10,000 feature that had been halted due to rain with 32 laps remaining. He followed up by claiming the regular Ti-22 Performance FAST On Dirt feature on Kistler Engines Night. In the make-up feature Henry took the lead from Tim Shaffer on lap 25, survived contact with a lapped car with just two laps to go to earn the win over Cale Thomas, Shaffer, Cap Henry and Zeth Sabo. It was his fourth win of the year at "The Track That Action Built." "That's two weeks in a row I had to kind of get aggressive with a lapper. Really did not mean to do that but when you're racing for the win and the lapped cars are there…he was kind of all over the place and I needed to get by him. I knew it was going to be a demanding race track. I just needed to hit my marks and wait for a mistake and get a run. Kevin (Osmolski, crew chief) gave me a bad ass race car. Thank you Doc and Rebecca for everything," said Henry beside his Running Boxer Farms, Harris Distributing Company, Valvoline, Triple J Towing, K1, Berryman Racing Shocks, Chalkstix backed #101. In the night's regular 30-lap feature Henry jumped into the lead at the drop of the green from his outside front row starting spot. He built a sizeable lead until Chris Andrews moved into second on lap five and began closing. Andrews stayed right with Henry and actually drove to his inside on a couple of restarts following cautions. But, Henry was just to smooth and drove to his fifth win of the year at Fremont and the night's sweep. Andrews, Cap Henry, Thomas and Shaffer rounded out the top five. "Hats off to the track crew….they gave us a hell of a track all night. I love these big curbs especially when there's two lanes and you can race hard on it. That was a lot of fun. Last week Cap was on the front row and you can't spot a guy that good that spot. I started on the front row next to him and I just needed to get out front and I knew we had a chance. Kevin has given me such a great race car and I'm excited for tomorrow. This is a race we circled on our calendar heavily all year," said Henry. The Burmeister Trophy Dirt Trucks ran double features. In the first Kent Brewer drove to his first win of the year, the eighth of his career at the track over Shawn Valenti, Steve Miller (from 19th), Keith Sorg and Dave Golembiewski. "This is a brand new truck top to bottom and she's a good one. I have to thank all the friends and family that helped me put this here," said Brewer beside his Injector Experts, Kent's Transmissions, B&S Farms backed #8KB. In the second feature Cody Laird led the first three laps before Valenti took control. Brewer pressured Valenti several laps before experiencing mechanical issues with just two laps to go. Valenti drove to his sixth truck win of the year at Fremont over Sorg, Laird, Golembiewski and Todd Warnick. It is Valenti's 80th career win at the track, putting him just one behind Paul Weaver atop the all-time win list. "Looks like Kent will be something to contend with this year. Thanks to all my guys and all the sponsors for providing me the chance to do this," said Valenti beside his Craig Miller Trucking, Conrad Transportation, Dave Story Equipment, A Plus Auto Center, Concrete Material Supply, S&S Hauling and Excavating backed #7B. Fremont Speedway will host the biggest paying event in the history of the track Saturday, Sept. 14 for the Jim Ford Classic. The 410 sprint winner will take home $20,000! The 305 sprints will also run two feature events. All events at Fremont Speedway Presented by Gill Construction in 2024 will be streamed on DirtVision. - Fremont Speedway’s Jim Ford Classic richest weekend in track’s history
The 17th Annual Jim Ford Classic at Fremont Speedway Presented by Gill Construction, slated for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13 and 14, will be the richest paying event in the 73 year history of “The Track That Action Built.”
- Cap Henry claims Fremont 410 win, wraps up 3rd AFCS title; Weaver earns 3rd 305 win with Jamie Miller earning AFCS title; Valenti scores 5th truck win
FREMONT, Ohio - Coming into the championship night, Saturday, Sept. 7 at Fremont Speedway Presented by Gill Construction for the 410 sprints All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series (AFCS) Presented by the Baumann Auto Group Cale Thomas held a slim 33 point lead over defending series champion Cap Henry. All Henry could do was win on Baumann Auto Group Night and hope for Thomas to finish out of the top 10 if he stood a chance at claiming his third AFCS title. Henry led all 30-laps Saturday to score his second win of the year at "The Track That Action Built," while Thomas finished 12th . It is the second straight AFCS title for Henry, the 2023 Fremont Speedway track champion, and his 20th career win at Fremont. It is the Bellevue, Ohio driver's 7th overall victory of 2024. Current Fremont Speedway point leader Kalib Henry finished second with Nate Dussel, Zane DeVault and DJ Foos rounding out the top five in the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprint A-main. "Everybody did their part on this team. That thing was just plain fast. I knew I was picking through the traffic good…I read that infield scoreboard more than I ever have in my whole career to see if my lead was building or losing. Zack (Myers, crew chief) kept telling me everything I was doing was right but I couldn't have botched that last restart any worse if I tried. I'm just so proud of this whole team. It hasn't been a great year compared to how we did it last year. It was a long shot to get this championship and to pull that off it says so much about everyone involved," said Henry beside his Premier Planning Service, Jeff Ward Demolition, Ohio Logistics, Primal Tee Shop, Elliott's Custom Trailers and Carts, FK Rod Ends, Griff's Engines backed #33W. Fremont, Ohio's Paul Weaver and Vermilion, Ohio's Tyler Shullick put on a whale of a battle for the win in the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprint A-main. Shullick lead laps 1-4 with Weaver taking over for laps five and six. Shullick regained the lead on lap seven only to see Weaver take it back a lap later and lead to lap 19. The pair raced side by side over that 12 lap battle. Shullick lead lap 20 and Weaver inched back ahead a lap later and held on for his third win of 2024 at Fremont with Dustin Stroup, Jamie Miller and Dustin Dinan rounding out the top five. The victory is Weaver's fourth overall victory of 2024 and the 81st of his career at Fremont to sit atop the track's all-time win list. "The last month it's been nice going back to kind of normal. We struggled early this year and finally got some things figured out. I hated showing up wondering what's going to happen next," said Weaver beside his Steve Brown's B&B Drain Service, Hampshire Racing Engines, M&L Excavating backed #1W. Miller just had to make the feature to wrap up his second NAPA of Bryan AFCS Presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales 305 sprint title, topping Weaver's four consecutive years of winning the series title. "We've had a very solid year…been pounding away at it getting solid finishes and hoping we can keep going and get the championship here," said Miller who has nine 305 sprint wins in 2024, three dirt truck victories and a non-wing sprint win this season. Jamie Miller led the first three laps of the 20-lap Burmeister Trophy Dirt Truck feature before Shawn Valenti took over. Valenti and Steve Miller ran door to door for seven straight laps before Miller suffered engine woes with two laps to go. Valenti drove away for his fifth win of the season over Jamie Miller, Dave Golembiewski, Keith Sorg and Ron Miller rounding out the top five. The victory is the 79th career win for Valenti at Fremont Speedway, putting him second, just two behind Weaver on the All-time win list. "We got into a pretty good rhythm there before that caution with five laps to go and I wasn't sure how hard to push it those last couple of laps and he (Steve Miller) woke me up and got me to sit back up in the seat," said Valenti beside his Craig Miller Trucking, Conrad Transportation, Dave Story Equipment, A Plus Auto Center, Concrete Material Supply, S&S Hauling and Excavating backed #7B. Fremont Speedway will be back in action Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13 and 14 for the Jim Ford Classic, the richest event in the history of the track. Friday features a complete program of the Ti-22 Performance Fast on Dirt 410 Sprints, the rest of the series' feature that was cut short due to rain in June along with double features for the dirt trucks. Saturday will feature a $20,000 to win 410 sprint A-main along with double features for the 305 sprints. - Fremont Speedway's Jim Ford Classic richest weekend in track's history
FREMONT, Ohio - The 17th Annual Jim Ford Classic at Fremont Speedway Presented by Gill Construction, slated for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13 and 14, will be the richest paying event in the 73 year history of "The Track That Action Built." "When Jim Ford resurrected Fremont Speedway nearly 25 years ago, he saved the tradition of exciting entertainment that has been around for nearly a century. It's appropriate we honor his legacy with the richest paying event in the history of this great track," said Rich Farmer, Fremont Speedway Promoter. On Kistler Engines Night, Friday, there will be double features for the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints. The $10,000-to-win make up feature from Ohio Sprint Speedweek (there were three laps completed before the rains came) will be contested followed by a regular night's show. Both events will be operated under the Ti-22 Performance FAST On Dirt Series format. The FAST regular event on Friday will pay $5,000 to win, $1,000 for 10th and $600 to start with a total A-main purse of $25,000. Also on Friday, the Burmeister Trophy Dirt Trucks will run the "double down" format with two 15-lap feature events only. The top 18 qualifiers will be locked into the twin features, with six being added from the last chance race. The first feature will be lined up straight up from times with the second feature being inverted based on a dice roll of 2-12. It will be a full weekly purse for each feature event. The Gill Construction/All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads Night, Saturday for the 410-sprints will feature a $20,000-to-win, $1,000 for 10th, $600 to start with a total purse of $50,000!
