- Norris Races To 2025 Williams Grove 358 Sprint Track Title
Mechanicsburg - Dylan Norris of Hanover was recently crowned the HJ Towing & Recovery 358 sprint Williams Grove Speedway track champion for 2025. Norris was by far at the top of the point standings, outdistancing his closest rival Nash Ely by 480 points. Of the seven events contested at the track during the 2025 season for the 358 sprints, Norris won five features while also garnering a third and a sixth place finish. Those statistics saw him finish the year at the track with an average feature finish of second. Norris also won a feature in the 410 sprint division at the track during the year, on August 1. Ayden Hare of Hanover was named the 2025 Rookie of the Year in the 358 sprint division. Hare rode home sixth in season points with a pair of runner-up finishes to his credit on the year. The track title for Norris was the first of his career and his five wins on the season tied him with his uncle Cris Eash for 10th on the oval all time 358 sprint win list at nine victories. Norris scored the title aboard the Brad McClelland owned No. 6. Williams Grove Speedway will open the 2026 racing season on Sunday afternoon, March 22. - 'Original Outlaw' Bobby Allen left 'an indelible mark' on sprint car racing

- Williams Grove Mourns Loss Of Bobby Allen
Mechanicsburg - Williams Grove Speedway is mourning the sudden loss of venerable sprint car driver and car owner Bobby Allen of Hanover. The legendary Allen passed away unexpectedly Sunday at the age of 81 after fielding his two cars in the 63rd annual National Open at the track on Saturday night. Although he had spent the last several seasons on the road touring with the World of Outlaws sprint cars series as a car owner for his grandson Logan Schuchart and son Jacob Allen, the elder Allen's name was for decades well known at Williams Grove Speedway. Bobby Allen owned 36 sprint car wins as a driver at the historic oval having scored his first on May 23, 1969. For a time early in his career he was teammates with the late Lynn Paxton while both drivers sported sponsorship from Roy "Shorty" Emrich however for the majority of his career he owned his own sprint car and his familiar No. 1A became synonymous with his name. He was the 1975 Williams Grove National Open champion at a distance of 150 laps. Allen finished second in the prestigious event three other times. In 1976 Allen won four sprint car features in a row at Williams Grove. The final four wins of his driving career at Williams Grove Speedway were victories over the World of Outlaws spanning the 1986 and 1989 seasons with the final win coming on June 2, 1989. Allen remained active as a driver at the oval into the mid 1990s while at the wheel of his own car as well as one owned by Jim Walker. The elder of the two brothers, Allen also owned his brother Joey's No. A1 that claimed the 1987 National Open. An accomplished world champion go-karter, Allen was the first driver to relocate to the sprint car hotbed of Central Pennsylvania from Florida in the 1960s while chasing the lucrative purses the area offered. He eventually drew driving acquaintances Steve Smith Sr. and Richard Lupo north along with his brother Joey. Along the way Allen picked up the moniker of "Old Scruffy" due to his appearance and he became known as "The Original Outlaw" for his nomad-like tendencies during the early days of the outlaws circuit when from his shop in Pennsylvania he would suddenly appear at high-dollar races across the nation, in an effort to steal the loot in an upset. Allen was also considered the leader of "The Hanover Gang" for decades, referring to a band of sprint car hot shoes from the area including himself along with Smith, Steve Siegel, Van May, Cris and Darran Eash and others. After leaving the seat as a driver, Allen began fielding the No. 1S 358 sprint car in the area and at Williams Grove for his grandson Logan Schuchart where the current outlaws pilot garnered a pair of wins before moving into a 410 sprint car owned by Allen. Currently ranked fourth in World of Outlaws series points with two wins on the season, Schuchart recorded four 410 sprint car wins at Williams Grove for Allen's stables over the years, his most recent coming in the World of Outlaws Summer Nationals in 2023. Schuchart rode home seventh for Allen in the National Open Saturday night while the Allen mount of Ashton Torgerson failed to qualify. As a driver Allen also claimed the Williams Grove Speedway 1983 Jack Gunn Memorial and Early Bird Championship. Allen won the 1978 and 1982 season opener at the track. Bobby Allen was the 1990 Knoxville Nationals champion and an inductee of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame. The staff and management of Williams Grove Speedway extend its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Bobby Allen. Allen left an indelible mark on the sport and Williams Grove Speedway, one that will live forever in memory and the annals of history. The ownership title for car owner Michael Heffner of Hellertown is a career fifth. - Haudenschild Holds On For Williams Grove J & S Classics National Open Loot - Bill Balog nearly wins 63rd annual event, Troy Wagaman gets track title
Mechanicsburg - Sheldon Haudenschild out-raced Bill Balog to prove triumphant in Saturday night's 40-lap, 63rd annual J & S Classics National Open for World of Outlaws Sprint Cars at Williams Grove Speedway. The prestigious payday was worth $75,000 for the Ohio native in what was his second career win at the historic oval. Throughout the night, polesitter Bill Balog's No. 17 machine proved to be a few tenths of a second faster than all other cars in action each time he hit the track and his speed was evident. Both he and Haudenschild started on the front row of the Open with Haudenschild trailing Balog for the first six laps before fourth starter Buddy Kofoid drove into the second spot. Balog hit traffic with a two second lead on the eighth tour and found his advantage down to just over a second with a quarter of the race completed as heavy traffic was in play. Third starter Danny Dietrich drove low in the third turn to get third away from Haudenschild on the 13th tour just before Haudenschild took the spot back and the caution flag unfurled for a slowing Connor Morrell. That yellow with 14 laps down turned red for refueling and Haudenschild capitalized on the restart to get by Kofoid for second before the final caution of the race appeared for a faltering David Gravel on lap 15. A two-time Open winner, Gravel suddenly slowed in the second turn but then restarted just as suddenly but not before losing several spots. Danny Dietrich blasted to the outside of Haudenschild and Kofoid in the first corner on the restart and motored into second but Haudenschild was far from backing off for the spot as Kofoid faded. He dogged Dietrich for the next 12 circuits before battling back into second on the 29th tour before setting his sights on Balog who had again hit the rear of the field two laps earlier. With 10 laps to go Balog was circling the high cushion with a .694 second lead over the field. Haudenschild took his first swipe at the leader with seven to go by attempting a low side blast in the third turn that failed to deliver but a lap later Balog tripped on the first turn cushion, giving Haudenschild new life. Sheldon used the bobble to nose into the lead around the inside only to see Balog muster all of his speed and blow back around as the pair hit the backstretch. Unbelievably, the next time around Balog did the exact same thing on the cushion as he traversed the first corner and this time when he bobbled up top, Haudenschild got too far around on the inside and Balog wasn't able to repeat his move to again reclaim control. Haudenschild crossed the line with the lead with four laps to go and Balog in hot pursuit to get the lead back. With two to go the pair was nose to tail as they passed the flag stand and just after the white flag Balog went for all the marbles. With every bit of speed he had left in his car Balog thrust his car around the cushion as he blasted through the first and second turns. And he drew alongside Haudenschild for the win as the duo started down the backstretch. But Haudenschild used a bit of squeeze play as the pair headed for the bridge, forcing Balog to back out and surrender the top spot yet again. And then while Haudenschild drove off to the big win Dietrich also got by Balog to finish second. After starting fifth, Daryn Pittman was a high as third with 10 laps to go before settling for fourth aboard the Kreitz No. 69K. Kofoid completed the race in the fifth spot. Sixth through 10th went to Gravel, Logan Schuchart, Chase Dietz, Brent Marks and Ryan Timms. Troy Wagaman Jr. won the 2025 Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint car track title by virtue of finishing 20th in the field. Heats went to Gravel, Carson Macedo, Balog and Pittman. Lance Dewease won the B Main and TJ Stutts won the C Main. Balog earned the pole for the National Open by winning the dash. A six-time National Open champion, Donny Schatz won the non-qualifiers race. Gravel set fast time over the 56-car field for the second night in a row, turning in a lap of 16.687 seconds. The National Open was the final event on the 2025 schedule at Williams Grove Speedway. Opening day for the 2026 season is slated for Sunday afternoon, March 22 at 2 pm, featuring the 410 sprint cars. Feature Finish 10/4/25 410 sprint cars, 25 laps: 1. Sheldon Haudenschild, 2. Danny Dietrich, 3. Bill Balog, 4. Daryn Pittman, 5. Buddy Kofoid, 6. David Gravel, 7. Logan Schuchart, 8. Chase Dietz, 9. - Dietz Leads Posse Podium Sweep Of Outlaws In Williams Grove Open Prelim - Locals take four of top five spots with Saturday 75K National Open looming
Mechanicsburg - Chase Dietz of York led a Pennsylvania Posse sweep of the World of Outlaws sprint cars in the J & S Classics National Open Preliminary at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, taking $12,000 for the exciting victory. And not only did the Posse sweep the podium but it also took four of the top five spots in the 25-lap main that was the 39th running of the prestigious event. Defending National Open champion Carson Macedo jetted into control from the pole when action began in the preliminary feature chased by Danny Dietrich but fourth starter Dietz served notice early that he was to be in the hunt. He swept to Dietrich's outside on the second lap to take the spot away but by that time leader Macedo had already built up a near two-second advantage over the field. Dietz was noticeably faster than his leading outlaws nemesis however and he consistently chopped between three and five tenths of a second per lap off of Macedo's lead. Dietz had narrowed the gap to eight-tenths of a second by lap seven when the only caution flag of the race unfurled for a four-car tangle in the third turn that was started by Daryn Pittman when his car backed up across the track while running in the eighth spot. Collected in the accident was Daison Pursley, Kody Hartlaub and Bill Balog. Dietz stuck with Macedo when action resumed but he also had to contend with challenger Lance Dewease for the second spot by lap 10. Going for a tie breaking fourth win in the event, Dewease briefly took the position but couldn't hold it as Dietz had his sights set on the leader. As the leaders worked through traffic Dietz first drew to Macedo's inside on the 20th tour as the pair worked through the first and second turns before drag racing down the backstretch. Dietz then pushed his No. 23 deep into the third turn to slide up in front of Macedo as the pair headed for the flag stand only to see Macedo turn his car off of the cushion and back into control by a scant .010 seconds at the line. After two laps to regroup Dietz then blasted under Macedo for control with three laps to go as the pair danced through the third and fourth turns. And along for the ride came Dewease as the pair soared into the top two spots with Dewease briefly threatening to take the lead away from Dietz as well. However once out front in clean air Dietz was able to sneak away to a .798 second margin by the finish. It was Dietz's fifth career win at the oval but his first for car owners John and Kelly Stehman. The checkered flag was also a first for the pilot over the traveling outlaws band. Dietrich got by Macedo late to snare third with Macedo riding home fourth followed by eighth starter Justin Whittall. Sixth through 10th went to Buddy Kofoid, David Gravel, Gio Scelzi, Justin Peck and Brent Marks. In the chase for the 2025 Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint track title, Troy Wagaman Jr. ended the race still in the point lead by 125 markers over Freddie Rahmer who finished 11th in the event while Wagaman rode home 16th after taking a provisional to make the field. Heats for the 56-car field went to Gravel, Kofoid, Dewease and Pursley. Sheldon Haudenschild won the B Main and Kyle Spence won the C Main. Ryan Newton claimed the non-qualifiers race. Macedo earned the pole for the feature by winning the dash. Gravel seat overall fast time with a lap of 16.409 seconds. Williams Grove Speedway will host the 63rd annual J & S Classics National Open for World of Outlaws sprint cars on Saturday night to close the season, paying $75,000 to win the 40-lap National Open feature. Feature Finishes 10/3/25 410 sprint cars, 25 laps: 1. Chase Dietz, 2. Lance Dewease, 3. Danny Dietrich, 4. Carson Macedo, 5. Justin Whittall, 6. Buddy Kofoid, 7. David Gravel, 8. Gio Scelzi, 9. - Williams Grove Open Prelim Tradition Continues Friday - 2025 event to be run October 3
Mechanicsburg - As much as the J & S Classics National Open at Williams Grove Speedway deserves its place in sprint car lore as it celebrates its 63rd running on October 4 with a $75,000 payday, the National Open Preliminary race itself also has a place at the history table. Although not an annual event, the National Open Preliminary race will hold its head high and celebrate its 39th running on October 3. The preliminary was first run in 1980 with Keith Kauffman taking the win aboard the Weikert Livestock No. 29. That preliminary win would be the first of two for Weikert in the race with Doug Wolfgang scoring again a few years later in 1985. Noted author and television commentator of today, driver Brad Doty of Apple Creek, Ohio was lured East back in 1981 and picked up what would be his first of two career Williams Grove wins in the preliminary before suffering career ending injuries in a racing crash a few years later. The event has only been lost to weather eight times over the years and on 10 occasions the preliminary winner has swept both National Open races, going on to score the coveted big prize in the Open itself. Sweeps came in 1982, 1985, 1989, 1990, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2011, 2017 and in 2022 at the respective hands of Lynn Paxton, Wolfgang, Stevie Smith, Steve Kinser, Mark Kinser, Lance Dewease, Sammy Swindell, Jason Myers, David Gravel and Lance Dewease. And that sweep by Paxton in 1982 was surrounded by considerable controversy stemming from the preliminary race. The Williams Grove record books actually show a tie for the preliminary win between both Paxton and Ohio's Dave Blaney on September 17. A young Blaney was leading, headed for his first career Grove win on that night when he ran into mechanical problems as he raced off of the fourth turn toward the checkers. Veteran Paxton was trailing and gaining fast as Blaney tried to limp home and the scorers documented his No. 10 as crossing the finish line first. However unrest abounded regarding that decision and a picture of the finish taken at the line produced the next day clearly showed Paxton crossing very close but definitely first. Thus both drivers were paid for and credited with a victory and Paxton could go on to score the weekend sweep with Grove career wins 38 and 39. No driver has been able to put up big numbers in the preliminary race over the years unlike within its big brother National Open wherein World of Outlaws driver Donny Schatz is going for an amazing seventh event title in this year's race. Rather, in the preliminary no driver holds more than a trio of wins with Kauffman, Steve Kinser, Gravel and Dewease all holding that distinction. Before the World of Outlaws began sanctioning the preliminary in 1989, the race was contested once as an All Stars Circuit of Champions contest with Maynard Yingst the winner in 1986. Today and for many years now the National Open Preliminary at Williams Grove is run as a separate and stand-alone show aside from the Open itself. However for a number of years as an outlaws race, the top four finishers in the preliminary race were automatically locked into the next night's National Open. This was standard procedure under World of Outlaws sanctioning rules for two-day shows for many seasons. In the 2006 running of the event, Washington state driver Jason Solwold made speedway and outlaws history with a preliminary night win. Up to that point in outlaws history at the track, every sanctioned race ever run had been scored by either a series regular or a clear member of the home team PA Posse. Solwold's drive to victory made him the first true independent driver to ever win a Williams Grove outlaws feature main. Another piece of history from the National Open preliminary comes from 2018 when the "Fresno Phenom," Giovanni Scelzi crossed the country for an upset win on September 28. Scelzi's victory etched his name in the record books as the youngest driver ever to win a sprint car race at the historic venue at the ripe old age of 16. In 2021, NASCAR star Kyle Larson stopped at Williams Grove and copped the preliminary before going on to claim the season title on NASCAR's top circuit. The 2022 version of the race, won by Dewease, ended up being the shortest in history at 10 laps after the race was called official by outlaws gurus thanks to persistent, intermittent light rain. In both 2023 and 2024 the preliminary mains were postponed to Saturday night thanks to drizzle one year and fog the next. In 2023 the make-up was completed after the National Open itself with Brad Sweet scoring his second outlaws win of the year at Williams Grove while Buddy Kofoid romped to the win in 2024 in an event contested before the full Saturday program. The 39th running of the 25-lap National Open Preliminary gets underway at 7:30 on October 3. The winner will receive $12,000. Admission prices for Friday's program are $40 for adults and $20 for youth. Kids ages 12 and under are always admitted for FREE at Williams Grove Speedway. . Fireworks will be part of the program. - 63rd Annual J & S Classics Williams Grove National Open Brings History Alive Saturday - Historic Race Again Pays $75,000 Top Prize Oct. 4
Mechanicsburg - Sprint car fans in the East will assemble once again this Saturday night to see the 63rd annual running of the J & S Classics Williams Grove Speedway National Open for sprint cars, sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Series, going 40-laps in distance and again paying $75,000 to the winner. The widely acclaimed event will be spun off with a Saturday A-Main total purse alone reaching nearly $192,000! The National Open has a grand history that dates back to its inception and first champion in 1963. It is a history that pre-dates all other season-finale races held anywhere in the East. Eventual Indianapolis 500 champion Gordon Johncock of Hastings, Mich., won the very first 100-lap affair in a contraption that had what looked like a wing atop its roll cage. And this too would soon come to pass, as sprint cars would begin taking over dirt tracks in the east, including Williams Grove Speedway. Ohio USAC standout Larry Dickson scored Open round two in 1964. Western Pennsylvania invader Henry Jacoby of Franklin took 1965. The name of Blaney graced the National Open winner's circle in 1966 as family patriarch Lou took Open laurels decades before his sons Dave and Dale would compete on the scene. Bobbie Adamson, becoming a region name, took back-to-back victories in 1967 and 1968 before a virtual unknown named Gene Varner from Selinsgrove drove a back-up Gary Wasson No. 5 to an upset win in 1969 after a distance of 150 laps. The decade of the 1970's dawned with Altoona flyer Johnny Grum picking up the Open win. The first of three consecutive wins by Midwest transplant Kenny Weld took place in 1971. All three of Weld's wins came aboard the Bob Weikert No. 29. Another transplant, The Bandit, Steve Smith Sr., took wins in 1974 and again in a rain-shortened 122-lap race in 1976 while The Original Outlaw, Bobby Allen drove to a win in 1975. Texas native racing brother Van May took the 1977 version of the National Open before the Pink Panther struck in 1978 with a Kramer Williamson 100-lap win. That 1978 National Open holds the distinction of technically being the first-ever race to be sanctioned by the World of Outlaws at Williams Grove despite the fact that no outlaws drivers were actually in the field. All the stars of the WoO circuit were at a race in the western part of the nation on that date but outlaws rules during the series' formative years stated that any race paying over a certain dollar amount to win would count as a sanctioned race and such is the history. Smokey Snellbaker drove to victory for Charlie Lloyd in 1979 before the grandson of a coal miner named Lucas, Allen Klinger of Hegins kicked off the 1980's with a 40-lap victory. The only National Open to ever carry an All Stars Circuit of Champions sanction took to the track in 1981 when Steve Smith Sr. returned for a third Open triumph. Lynn Paxton went back-to-back in 1982 and 1983 and stunned the racing world after his second 75-lap win by going into retirement during the off-season. Three more in a row for owner Bob Weikert came at the hands of South Dakota driver Doug Wolfgang from 1984 - 1986. Wolfgang got stunned, denied and passed by Bobby Allen's brother, Joey Allen, for the victory in 1987. The Mouse, Kenny Jacobs of Holmesville, Ohio, took another win for Weikert in 1988. The year 1989 found the first true World of Outlaws National Open contested as the yearly sanctioning began with Stevie Smith taking a victory to carry on his father's tradition. One of if not the greatest sprint car driver(s) of all time, Hoosier Steve Kinser took his first National Open checkers in 1990. Stevie Smith returned for another Open win, both for car owner Al Hamilton, in 1991, and now at a distance of 50 laps. Kinser was again the champion in 1992 before daytime specialist Don Kreitz Jr. drove to victory under the Sunday sun in 1993 after 40 laps of action. Steve Kinser was again the winner in 1994 before outlaw cousin Mark Kinser took 1995. The locals went back in front in 1996 with Lance Dewease and No. 461 car owner Walt Dyer. Sammy Swindell won his first National Open in 1997 on a night that had fans returning to frozen windshields on their cars by the time the race ended. Persistent rain forced a non-sanctioned event in 1998, won by modified turned sprint star Billy Pauch in a mount owned by John Zemaitis. Mark Kinser returned for victory in 1999 before one of today's outlaws stars and champions, Donny Schatz took his first win in 2000 as part of what would become a historic record in National Open competition in another 13 years. Dewease returned the laurels to the PA Posse turf with back-to-back wins in 2001 and 2002, for car owners Joe Harz and Al Hamilton, taking $25,000 and $30,000, respectively on both accounts. Steve Kinser was again the winner in 2003 before Schatz returned for two in a row in 2004 and 2005. The first $50,000 to win National Open was scored by Lancaster's Doug Esh in 2006 and as it turned out it was the richest and shortest Open in history when rains hit on lap 26 of 40. Schatz was again the winner in 2007. Thanks to more persistent rain, another unsanctioned event in 2008 saw future outlaws and All Stars star Cody Darrah drive to victory. Greg Hodnett took a hugely popular National Open victory for the PA Posse in 2009 driving the Jim and Sandy Kline No. 22. Sammy Swindell got the second Open win of his career in 2010. West coast flyer Jason Meyers took the 40-lap, $50,000 laurels in 2011. The 2012 version saw North Dakota's Schatz surge for an unprecedented fifth career win in the prestigious classic National Open. With the $50,000, 40-lap victory, Schatz became the winningest driver in National Open history, breaking a four-win tie with Steve Kinser. In 2013, the grand career of local driver Fred Rahmer of Salfordville was capped off at Williams Grove with his first and only triumph in the lucrative, prestigious National Open as Rahmer led the final 31 laps of the 40-lap feature before the veteran retired from the sport at the close of the season. Connecticut driver David Gravel took the $50,000 win in 2014 but not without controversy. The outlaws flyer was overtaken by local favorite Stevie Smith during the last half of the race before the slightest of contact from a closely following Gravel found Smith spinning in the first turn with six laps to go while Gravel retook command for the victory. And then Stevie Smith got redemption in what was to be the first three-day National Open in history in 2015. After three consecutive days of rain stopped the event dead in its tracks, a break with the weather on Sunday allowed a raindated Open to be completed with Smith taking the lead from Danny Dietrich on the ninth tour to lead the final 31 circuits and beat Schatz to the line for victory. An uncanny three more days of rain and raw weather wiped out a second attempt at a three-day nationals in 2016. An outlaws make up two weeks later found Danny Dietrich taking the lead from Joey Saldana with two laps to go in the 40-lap affair to score a wildly popular win for the Pennsylvania Posse. Brad Sweet also took a turn at leading. Connecticut's David Gravel struck for his second $50,000 score in the 2017 National Open. Gravel took the lead from Donny Schatz and then took the lead back from James McFadden to win the 55th Annual affair. An emotional 2018 event held just days after the tragic death of 2009 National Open champion Greg Hodnett saw local driver Lance Dewease win his fourth career nationals for his fourth different car owner. Driving for Don Kreitz Jr. in the No. 69K, Dewease wrestled the lead away from Brock Zearfoss with a three-wide move in the second turn on lap 24 to seal the 40-lap deal, worth $56,000. A tearful Dewease dedicated the victory to Hodnett. Brent Marks of Myerstown won the richest sprint car race in the history of Williams Grove Speedway and the largest cash payoff ever for a sprint car race in the Eastern United States by claiming a $65,000 victory in 2019. A former regular at the track before going on the road with the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Series a few years prior, Marks scored the WoO victory by turning back challenges from both Brian Brown who took the lead for a time early and from Daryn Pittman on a last lap restart in the 40-lap affair. A National Open billed as the biggest sprint car race in the nation went to outlaw Donny Schatz in 2020 as the North Dakotan scored $75,000 for his unrivaled sixth career victory in the event. Schatz was the third and final leader in the hotly contested 40-lapper. A lap 12 restart saw David Gravel pull the trigger for control over Logan Schuchart but after locking down to the low side in the third and fourth turns, Schatz reeled in Gravel to make a low side, first turn winning move as the leader was entering traffic on lap 21. Kyle Larson come to life after a lap 25 restart and when Schatz entered traffic with seven laps left he closed in for the win. Larson pulled a banzai run through the third and fourth corners as the pair raced to the checkers by blasting the outside line before pulling to Schatz's outside in turn four however just as it appeared that he would edge in front his mount jumped the cushion. California's Carson Macedo won the biggest sprint car race of his career in the 2021 version of the Open when he became the third and final leader in the 40-lap main, overtaking Logan Schuchart for the lead with four laps to go. Schuchart got control on lap 13 when defending event winner and current leader Brent Marks spun while working traffic. Macedo fought off the challenges of Sheldon Haudenschild for second with 12 laps to go before taking the lead from a struggling Schuchart in traffic. Still aboard the No. 69K, local Lance Dewease would end up taking a flag to flag victory in the 2022, 75K to win, 40-lap National Open but he did lose the lead to a surging Brent Marks on lap 29. Marks made a backstretch move stick but Dewease got a reprieve before the lap could be scored thanks to a red flag for a crash. Marks continued taking shots over the final 12 laps but would end up second as part of a PA Posse podium sweep at the finish with Anthony Macri in third spot. The race was postponed for three weeks after an initial rainout. For Dewease, the Open title was a fifth as driver having taken previous Opens in 1996, 2001, 2002 and 2018 for owners Walt Dyer, Joe Harz, Al Hamilton and Kreitz respectively. The victory was also Dewease's fifth in a row at the track to end the season. Additionally, the win was the third of car owner Don Kreitz's career in the event, having taken one as an owner/driver. Brent Marks of Myerstown would triumph in the 61st version of the race in 2023 for his second win in the affair on what was a night with double features after the preliminary main was postponed by drizzle a night earlier. Marks started on the pole and lost the lead early to Justin Peck before sixth starter Daryn Pittman drove by both pilots, and took the lead with 12 away. Carrying a string of five runner-up finishes into the race, Pittman appeared headed tohis elusive first victory in the race aboard the Kreitz 69K but Marks was buzzing the top and tracked downthe leader to battle for control and eventually get it on lap 22. Pittman would earn a sixth bridesmaid finish in the Open. The $75,000 win was the fifth of the season for Marks at the track and pushed his five-race winning total to $120,100. Brad Sweet won the make-up Open prelim to close the night. Carson Macedo struck for the second Open win of his career in the 2024 event after taking the lead from Anthony Macri on the eighth lap. Late in the race a surging Sheldon Haudenschild closed it up on Macedo, chopping four-tenths of a second off of the leader's advantage to cross the line a challenging second, just .164 seconds behind at the finish. Another double feature finale treated fans when Friday's B Main, dash and feature got postponed to Saturday afternoon thanks to dense fog. It turned out to be an all-California show on Saturday when Penngrove native Buddy Kofoid won the prelim before Lemoore's Macedo took the 75K top prize in the 40-lap Open itself. Adult general admission for October 4 is $50 with youth priced at $20. Kids ages 12 and under are always admitted for FREE at Williams Grove Speedway. . Fireworks will be part of the program. - Marks Returns To Williams Grove Victory Lane In National Open Tune Up, Norris Gets Fifth Of Year In 358 Sprints
Mechanicsburg - Brent Marks of Myerstown wrestled the lead away from Freddie Rahmer and drove to the win in the National Open Tune Up for Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint cars at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night. The $6,000 victory was the 21st of Marks' career at the historic oval and his first there since winning the National Open itself in 2023. In the 358 sprint main event it was newly crowned track champion Dylan Norris of Hanover claiming his fifth oval win of the year in the division. Rahmer and Marks shared the front row for the start of the 25-lap National Open Tune Up and Marks one-upped Rahmer on the initial start and ducked low into the lead in the second turn. However a caution for stopped fourth-starter Daison Pursley negated the move and the ensuing restart saw Rahmer get the upper hand. The early pace was soon slowed again on lap three, giving Marks a clear shot at the leader. Marks kept the leader in his sights when action resumed and by lap nine Rahmer's advantage was still less than a second. By lap 10, traffic entered the picture and that's when Marks closed the gap as Rahmer got bottled up behind a batch of battling cars. Marks worked to Rahmer's inside for the next two laps before pulling a huge haymaker for control deep in the third turn on the 13th tour. But after taking command Rahmer refused to let Marks get away as the pair darted through traffic. A relentless chase by Rahmer nearly netted him the lead on more than one occasion including when Marks tripped up over the fourth turn cushion as he worked to put cars a lap down at a torrid pace. Eventually as the race reached the five-to-go point Marks was able to sneak away to a bit of comfort before crossing the line 1.668 seconds ahead of Rahmer. Brock Zearfoss rode home third followed by Cameron Smith and Troy Wagaman Jr. Sixth through 10th went to Justin Whittall, Danny Dietrich, Chad Trout, Gio Scelzi and Chase Dietz. Heats went to Whittall, Marks and Pursley with the B Main going to Ryan Newton. Rahmer earned the pole for the feature by winning the dash. Whittall set fast time with a lap of 16.665 seconds. Wagaman won the 2025 Hoosier Diamond Series title after his run in the main event. An attempted second start of the 20-lap 358 sprint main saw the red flag appear for a seven-car pile up on the frontstretch that saw the cars of JT Ferry and Denny Gross flip wildly. Ferry was treated for a possible foot injury as a result. Dylan Norris started eighth in the field and saw Chase Gutshall take the early lead as he began his march forward. By lap seven Norris was already up to second as we went to work on Gutshall's 2.3-second lead. Methodically he chopped four-tenths of a second per lap off of the leader's advantage in order to drive into the lead with eight laps to go. Norris then checked out on the field to claim the ninth win of his career at Williams Grove by nearly six seconds. Gutshall settled for second followed by Eli Tuckey, Chad Criswell and Ayden Hare. Sixth through 10th went to Frankie Herr, Cole Young, Scott Fisher, Derek Locke and Nash Ely. Norris had already sewn up the 2025 track title in the division before the night began. Heats went to Tuckey, Gutshall and Criswell. Feature Finishes 9/26/25 410 sprint cars, 25 laps: 1. Brent Marks, 2. Freddie Rahmer, 3. Brock Zearfoss, 4. Cameron Smith, 5. Troy Wagaman Jr., 6. - Rahmer Wins First Of Year At Williams Grove In Race Of Season - Norris gets fourth win in 358 sprints
Mechanicsburg - Freddie Rahmer claimed the race of the season to date at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, holding off Lance Dewease and Daryn Pittman for the $6,000 win in the Kevin Gobrecht Classic Challenge for 410 sprint cars. The win was the defending track champion's first oval victory of the year. In the 358 sprint main, Dylan Norris charged forward from the sixth row to win his fourth race of the season at Williams Grove. Kody Hartlaub charged from the pole into the lead in the 25-lap 410 sprint feature ahead of Rahmer and hit the rear of the field on the seventh tour. And while Hartlaub was able to outdistance Rahmer on clear track, traffic proved to be a different story as Rahmer was able to drive down the leader's advantage by the halfway point. But at the same time sixth starter Lance Dewease was challenging Rahmer for second as the pair was catching the leader. Rahmer took his first jab at the lead on the 14th lap when he got by Hartlaub deep in the third turn only to see the East Berlin pilot turn his car off of the cushion and reclaim the spot at the line. And by that time, Dewease was all over the pair as the leaders zigzagged and darted through traffic. With six laps to go it was still any of the trios race to claim and with five to go both Rahmer and Dewease had swallowed up Hartlaub to be first and second. Dewease then went for the lead while fifth starter Daryn Pittman surged into the top three. Dewease was scored the leader with four laps to go by .001 seconds, an advantage not visible to the naked eye. Rahmer then snapped back into control as the pair raced into the first corner. Pittman then threatened to take second away as Dewease worked on the leader all the way to the finish, coming up short by .250 seconds. Pittman was just .635 seconds behind the leader, finishing third. Troy Wagaman Jr. rode home fourth followed by Hartlaub who had faltering brakes. Sixth through 10th went to Brock Zearfoss, Cameron Smith, Danny Dietrich, Justin Whittall and Tyler Ross. Heats went to TJ Stutts, Hartlaub and Wagaman Jr. Pittman set fast time with a lap of 16.623 seconds. Andy Best led the first 12 laps of the 20-lap 358 sprint main before 12th starter Dylan Norris of Hanover drove by for the lead and win. Norris motored into second on lap eight and then consistently took six and seven-tenths of a second off of Best's advantage each lap before seemingly effortlessly driving by for control. The victory was the eighth of the point leader's career at Williams Grove Speedway. Nash Ely took second from Best on a lap 18 restart but couldn't challenge Norris for the win. Best was third followed by James Roselli and Ayden Hare. Sixth through 10th went to Seth Schnoke, Eli Tuckey, Steve Wilbur, Hunter Fulton and Cody Fletcher. Heats went to Chad Criswell, Best and Roselli. Feature Finishes 9/19/25 410 sprint cars, 25 laps: 1. Freddie Rahmer, 2. Lance Dewease, 3. Daryn Pittman, 4. Troy Wagaman Jr., 5. Kody Hartlaub, 6. - Zearfoss Claims Williams Grove Kimmel Memorial, Norris Scores Third In 358 Sprints
Mechanicsburg - Brock Zearfoss of Jonestown claimed the Billy Kimmel Memorial for 410 sprint cars at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, getting his first oval win for car owner Rich Eichelberger. The victory was the fifth of Zearfoss' career at Williams Grove, worth $6,000. In 358 sprints, Dylan Norris of Hanover won for the third time this season at the oval and extended his point lead with just a pair of shows remaining on the year. Zearfoss started second in the 25-lap Kimmel main and took the lead over polesitter Justin Whittall when green appeared. He entered the rear of the field on the fifth tour with Whittall giving chase and the pursuer nearly got the lead on the 11th lap with a low groove run through the third and fourth turns. Whittall's chance came when Zearfoss made contact with Preston Lattomus high in turn three while putting him a lap down. The slight contact unsettled Zearfoss' No. 8 and before he could regain his composure Whittall got to his inside. However Zearfoss was able to hold on to control back to the stripe before a caution flag slowed the pace. Zearfoss sped away on the restart and had nearly a three second lead with 10 laps to go. At the finish Zearfoss was victorious by 3.607 seconds ahead of Whittall, Chase Dietz, Lance Dewease and Chad Trout. Sixth through 10th went to Kody Hartlaub, Freddie Rahmer, Lucas Wolfe, Troy Wagaman Jr., and Cameron Smith. Heats went to Whittall, Dietz and Zearfoss. Dewease set fast time with a lap of 16.745 seconds. Matt Findley led the first eight laps of the 20-lap 358 sprint main and all the while battled with Seth Schnoke for control. Schnoke repeatedly would drive ahead in the corners only to see Findley reclaim control onto the straightaways. Finally on lap nine Schnoke was able to get far enough ahead of Findley to hold onto control. Meanwhile, fourth starter Dylan Norris was advancing to the front and took second from Findley on the 11th tour. Norris first took a swipe for the lead with eight laps to go but Schnoke drove an extremely smart race, changing his lines every time around to keep his challenger at bay. It took until there was just five laps to go for Norris to finally make his way around Schnoke for good. Norris then drove to his seventh career oval win by 2.559 seconds with Schnoke ending up second followed by Cody Fletcher, Kyle Spence and Findley. Sixth through 10th went to Derek Locke, Cole Young, Eli Tuckey, Chase Gutshall and Nash Ely. Heats went to Schnoke, Findley and Spence. Feature Finishes 9/12/25 410 sprint cars, 25 laps: 1. Brock Zearfoss, 2. Justin Whittall, 3. Chase Dietz, 4. Lance Dewease, 5. Chad Trout, 6. Kody Hartlaub, 7. Freddie Rahmer, 8. Lucas Wolfe, 9. Troy Wagaman Jr., 10. Cameron Smith, 11. Dietrich entered the rear of the field on the 11th tour and immediately began to struggle putting cars a lap down. For several laps Dietrich was bottled up behind Brady Bacon and this allowed both Dietz and Macri to close in. The slickening track proved dicey and when Dietrich missed his entry into the first turn on lap 19, Dietz immediately drove to his inside while Macri blasted to the outside trying to swoop by both pilots. However Macri only came up with second as Dietz took the point. For the next four laps Macri slammed his car onto the high cushion as he entered the first corner in an effort to muscle by Dietz while Dietrich lurked within striking distance. Lap after lap Macri would draw beside the leader but couldn't quite muster enough power to complete the pass. And then on lap 23 the lead trio staged a crowd-pleasing three-car battle for command with Macri changing lanes to the inside, Dietz in the middle and Dietrich up on the cushion in the second corner. Macri came away the pacesetter as the trio pushed themselves off of the turn and onto the backchute while Dietrich also got by Dietz. Once at the front, Macri would drive to the win by .369 seconds over Dietrich, who was racing for his second win in a row. Dietz settled for third followed by Troy Wagaman Jr. and Price Miller. Sixth through 10th went to Brock Zearfoss, Austin Bishop, Freddie Rahmer, Logan Rumsey and Ryan Newton. Heats went to Price Miller, Dietz and Wagaman Jr. while Kody Hartlaub won the consolation race. Cameron Smith set fast time with a lap of 17.278 seconds. The win was the 14th of Macri's career at Williams Grove and his 12th overall of the season. Chris Allen Jr. led the first 13 laps of the 25-lap USAC East 360 feature before sixth starter Steve Drevicki of Reading drove into the lead. Drevicki took the win by .542 seconds ahead of Christian Bruno. Allen Jr. ended up third followed by Kyle Spence and Steve Wilbur. Heats went to Joey Amantea, Bruno and Ed Aikin. Ron Helmick took the consolation race. Feature Finishes 8/29/25 410 sprint cars, 25 laps: 1. Anthony Macri, 2. Danny Dietrich, 3. Chase Dietz, 4. Troy Wagaman Jr., 5. Parker Price Miller, 6. - Dietrich, Jackson And Shearer Win Williams Grove Friday - Danny Dietrich wires for Jack Gunn Memorial win
Mechanicsburg - Danny Dietrich wired the field for the $8,000 payday in the 43rd annual Jack Gunn Memorial for 410 sprint cars at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night. The flag to flag victory for Dietrich was his third in the prestigious event at the oval and his second of the season there. Previous Gunn Memorial wins for Dietrich came in 2017 and in 2022. In super sportsman action, Brandon Shearer scored the 20-lap win in the wingless main while Tony Jackson took victory in the winged sportsman division. The initial start of the 30-lap Gunn Memorial for 410 sprints was marred by a red flag as the field roared past the flagstand. Flipping were the cars of Ryan Smith, TJ Stutts and Freddie Rahmer while Jake Karklin was also involved. All drivers escaped injury. Dietrich took off ahead of Chase Dietz when the second start took place before Anthony Macri drove into third on the third circuit. The leader entered the rear of the field on lap 10 as Dietz and Macri battled for second before the caution flag unfurled for a slowing Austin Bishop. The final 20 circuits would go non-stop with Dietrich again entering the backmarkers during the final eight laps. Troy Wagaman Jr. muscled by Macri for third on the restart and closed on Dietz for second. However Macri took third back late in the event to secure the podium position. Dietrich crossed the finish line with a .898 second lead over Dietz. Cameron Smith and Wagaman rounded out the top five finishers. Sixth through 10th went to Lance Dewease, Brock Zearfoss, Ashton Torgerson, Kody Hartlaub and Matt Campbell. Heats went to Dietrich, Smith and Torgerson with Campbell scoring the consolation race. Fast time was set by Dellinger with a lap of 20.084 seconds. The wingless sportsman main saw Curt Stroup lead the first lap before Brandon Shearer got the lead. However Tony Jackson, in an effort to sweep the night, took the lead on lap six only to eventually see Shearer reclaim the spot to get the win. - Showman And Promoter Jack Gunn To Be Honored Friday At Grove - 410 sprint special pays 8K to win in 43rd annual running
Mechanicsburg - For the 43rd season in a row, Williams Grove Speedway will honor one of the finest showman and promoters the East has ever known on Friday night when the York Building Products Jack Gunn Memorial for 410 sprint cars is contested. First run in 1983, the Gunn Memorial honors late Williams Grove promoter Jack Gunn, a native of Hancock, Maryland. The 2025 event will be the 43rd annual Gunn Memorial and the winner's list is impressive to say the least. Bobby Allen was the first winner in 1983 with additional names on the win list like Frankie Kerr, Jason Johnson, Lance Dewease, Greg Hodnett, Fred Rahmer, Daryn Pittman, Keith Kauffman and many others. However no driver has claimed more Gunn Memorials over the years than the now retired Don Kreitz Jr. Jack Gunn was a Hall of Fame Promoter who heralded the speedway as promoter from 1967 until his untimely death from cancer at the age of 48 in 1980. He began working at the track during the early 1960s as an announcer and honed his skill on the microphone while eventually relaying his talents into the ovals captain. It was during his tenure at the helm of Williams Grove Speedway that Gunn rose to prominence on the local and national scene and he took the facility with him. During his career at Williams Grove, Gunn also promoted with much success at other area tracks. Gunns mark on both Williams Grove and the region itself was to help raise sprint car racing to not only a weekly division but a premiere weekly headline division at that. With his hand guiding them, Gunn first lured and then brought the likes of Jan Opperman, Bobby Allen, Steve Smith and more to the area to race, make a living and ultimately to make a home in this rich racing region. Gunn was feted nationally as 1979 Promoter of the Year. While at the top of his game, he not only stood at the helm at both Williams Grove and Selinsgrove Speedways, but he was also doing the job at Hagerstown, (Maryland) and Penn National Speedways. In his day, Jack Gunn was known as the most powerful promoter in the East. And it is that reputation and skill that Williams Grove Speedway will honor yet again this week with the running of the Jack Gunn Memorial. Gates will open at 5:30 pm with action getting underway at 7:30 pm. Adult general admission is set at $25 with youth ages 13 - 20 admitted for just $10. Kids ages 12 and under are always admitted for FREE at Williams Grove Speedway.

- New Winners Hartlaub And Merriman Visit Williams Grove Victory Lane
Mechanicsburg - A pair of new winners visited victory lane at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night when Kody Hartlaub walked off with the 410 sprint win and Cameron Merriman scored an exciting win in the Dirty Deeds 25 Finale for 358 sprints worth $3,000. Hartlaub would lead all 25 laps of the 410 sprint main with TJ Stutts trailing. His pace was slowed twice during the feature, once on lap 11 for a stopped Lance Dewease and again with six laps to go for a stopped Doug Hammaker. Hartlaub entered the rear of the field with the lead on the sixth circuit and began opening up some distance in traffic. Ninth starter Brock Zearfoss raced into fourth on lap 12 and appeared ready to continue his advance before he too slowed and pulled pitside. The leader again entered traffic on lap 18 just before the final caution flag unfurled. Hartlaub pulled away on the restart as Cameron Smith flexed his muscle and drove by point leader Troy Wagaman Jr. before going after Stutts for second. Smith briefly took the spot only to see Stutts reclaim it with five laps to go. Hartlaub would go on to score his first career Williams Grove Speedway victory by 1.691 second, worth $5,000. Stutts finished second followed by Smith, Wagaman Jr., and Anthony Macri. Sixth through 10th went to Kyle Moody, Freddie Rahmer, Brady Bacon, Jordan Thomas and Preston Lattomus. Heats went to Macri, Wagaman J r., and Dewease. Macri set fast time in warm-ups with a lap of 17.317 seconds. Cameron Merriman of Ellicott City, Md., turned in an impressive and exciting run to victory in the Dirty Deeds 25 feature for the 358 sprints. After starting third in the feature he raced into second behind leader Chase Gutshall on the opening lap. Merriman wasn't within striking distance during the early going but a lap 10 restart bunched the field and that's when he went to work for the win. For three consecutive laps Merriman thrust his No. 8 to the outside of Gutshall's No. 1a in the third and fourth turns and all three times he took the lead only to see his car slip over the cushion, allowing Gutshall to race back by before the stripe on laps 11, 12 and 13. After that Merriman regrouped and actually lost second briefly to a surging Ayden Hare. However with five laps to go Merriman was again ready to mount a challenge and after drag racing Gutshall down the backstretch he stuck to his outside into the third turn and this time made the move stick as the pair raced through the fourth corner on lap 21. And once in front Merriman was able to drive away to the $3,000 win for his first ever win anywhere in a 358 sprint car. He took the victory by 2.338 seconds over Hare, who took second with three laps to go. Third went to Gutshall with Cody Fletcher finishing fourth and Adam Carberry riding home in fifth spot. Sixth through 10th went to Dylan Norris, Derek Locke, Bryn Gohn, Jude Siegel and Nash Ely. Heats were taken by Hare, Frankie Herr and Eli Tuckey with Norris scoring the consolation race. Norris set fast time in warm-ups with a lap of 18.445 seconds. Feature Finishes 8/15/25 410 sprint cars, 25 laps: 1. Kody Hartlaub, 2. TJ Stutts, 3. Cameron Smith, 4. Troy Wagaman Jr., 5. - Dylan Norris Victorious In Williams Grove 410 Sprints For Second Of Career, Derek Locke Returns To 358 Winner's Circle
Mechanicsburg - Dylan Norris of Hanover piloted his No. 17 to the 410 sprint car win at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, turning in an impressive drive to record the second oval victory of his career. His previous win at the track in the division was on March 25, 2022. Norris pocketed $5,500 for the victory after scoring a pair of 358 sprint wins at the track on July 18. In 358 sprint action Friday night, Derek Locke returned to victory lane for the first time since September of 2023. Norris started sixth in his drive to victory and watched as polesitter Tim Glatfelter took control at the start of the 25 lap main. By lap three Norris had motored by Alex Attard for the third spot before setting his sights on Jeff Halligan for second. The leader entered the rear of the field on lap 11 and began putting cars a lap down before Norris got by Halligan with 11 laps to go. And just as Norris took second Glatfelter stumbled on the cushion, allowing both drivers to quickly run up on the leader. Norris pulled the trigger with nine laps to go and took control of the race with Halligan racing into second on lap 19. A lap later the Ephrata driver was briefly able to take the lead away from Norris as the pair worked traffic but Norris kept his composure and reclaimed the top spot in the fourth turn before the leaders could cross the line with five laps to go. And from there Norris would not be challenged, taking the win by 1.167 seconds over Freddie Rahmer, who drove from ninth at the start. Halligan settled for third followed by Tyler Ross and 16th starter Brock Zearfoss. Sixth through 10th went to Glatfelter, 17th starter Lance Dewease, Troy Wagaman Jr., Attard and Ryan Taylor. Heats went to Glatfelter, Attard and Halligan. Polesitter Chase Gutshall led the first 10 laps of the 25-lap 358 sprint feature before third starter Locke drove by. Fourth starter Ayden Hare took second with 10 laps to go and would proved to be a challenge for Locke before the finish. After losing second back to Gutshall for a few more laps, Hare put his elbows up and began driving higher and harder around the half-mile, again racing into second with four laps to go. Hare then ran down leader Locke and was able to rally to his outside on the final circuit but ended up crossing the finish line as the runner-up by .386 seconds. Dylan Norris was third followed by Gutshall and Nash Ely. Sixth through 10th went to Cody Fletcher, Jude Siegel, Matt Findley, Kyle Spence and Andy Best. - J & S Classics To Present 63rd annual Williams Grove World of Outlaws National Open October 3/4
Mechanicsburg - J & S Classics of Grantville will present the 63rd annual World of Outlaws National Open at Williams Grove Speedway coming up on Friday and Saturday, October 3 and 4. The announcement that J & S Classics would join forces with Williams Grove for the prestigious event was made Friday night at the track. For Sandy Kline, owner of J & S Classics and current car owner for Doug Hammaker, sponsoring the National Open at Williams Grove just comes naturally. "I have always loved the National Open and after you win the National Open, when you go to it, it's a whole different ball game once you've earned that win," Kline says. Kline and her late husband Jim got their win in the National Open with Greg Hodnett at the wheel of their famed golden No. 22 back in 2009. "You're going with a whole different attitude because you've sat in that victory lane. Any time you've won an outlaws race as a Pennsylvania Posse member you're doin' your job," Kline matter-of-factly states. As a car owner, Kline's stables did their job a total of eight times over the outlaws, all at Williams Grove, with pilots Jason Johnson, Hodnett and Fred Rahmer as wheel men. The 63rd annual running of the J & S Classics World of Outlaws National Open at Williams Grove Speedway will offer the Saturday, October 4 winner $75,000 for his 40 laps of work. And Kline is excited to see it all unfold. "It's my whole thing. Most people don't get this - I'm a woman who absolutely loves sprint car racing! I grew up with racing. I've lived it most of my life," she says. The two-day J & S Classics National Open will pit the outlaws pilots against the venerable Pennsylvania Posse sprint car stars for an all star match-up. "I guess you gotta' give back somewhere along the line. If you have it and you can do it, then you know, help this sport along," Kline says of her reasoning behind coming aboard the National Open. "You gotta' keep sprint car interest alive and well. The Pennsylvania Posse against the outlaws is one of the best competitions." "So for me there's nothing better than going to a race," she adds. "It's a sweet rivalry between the outlaws and the posse. It's exciting!" All the excitement of the Williams Grove Speedway J & S Classics World of Outlaws National Open weekend gets underway Friday night, October 3 when round one takes to the track at 7:30 pm. - 24TH Running Of Williams Grove Summer Nationals Continues Rivalry And History Friday And Saturday
Mechanicsburg - The C & D Rigging Summer Nationals at Williams Grove Speedway, coming up this Friday and Saturday, July 25 and 26, will celebrate its 24th running this week. The Grove Summer Sizzler has long found the World of Outlaws matching up with the Pennsylvania Posse to contest for top honors in the two-day rivalry. The first edition of the current Summer Nationals was a three-day event back in 2002 with a pair of preliminary mains taken by Danny Lasoski and Joey Saldana while local driver Greg Hodentt upended the World of Outlaws for the big score on Saturday driving for the Apple Motorsports stables. At the time, the three-day World of Outlaws show at Williams Grove was billed as the first of its kind since only one other previous three-day stand at the track in history, also billed as a Summer Nationals, took place in August 1984 when Sammy Swindell, Brad Doty and Steve Kinser took wins. World of Outlaws kingpin Donny Schatz took two of three at the track in 2003 with Don Kreitz Jr. taking a preliminary night. The 2004 version saw Lance Dewease and Lasoski split a pair of mains. Another three-day format in 2005 saw Jason Johnson score a popular victory for local owners Jim and Sandy Kline while Paul McMahan scored another prelim with track powerhouse Fred Rahmer taking a raucous victory in the Saturday finale. In 2006 outlaws invaders Terry McCarl, Craig Dollansky and Daryn Pittman swept the three-day affair. Donny Schatz bookended the three-day event with wins in 2007 while local Brian Leppo of Spring Grove was sandwiched in the middle with a win aboard the Swope No. 71 machine. Becoming a two-day event in 2008, outlaws Donny Schatz and Daryn Pittman swept the shows but the following year belonged to local drivers Greg Hodnett in the Kline No. 22 and Cody Darrah with Darrah taking the win in a make-up feature held during National Open weekend in October. The 2010 version was all Pennsylvania Posse as Lance Dewease took night one aboard the Don Owens No. 30C and Hodnett returning for another win for the Kline team. Hodnett struck again in 2011, this time in the Trone Special No. 39, along with outlaw driver Jason Meyers. Just one show was completed in 2012 with Darrah back for another win, this time aboard an outlaws mount owned by Kasey Kahne. Again, one show was completed in 2013 with Schatz again a victor but the pendulum swung the other way again in 2014 when locals Hodnett and Dewease swept the two-day weekend show with Hodnett now driving for Michael Heffner and Dewease aboard the Conduit Connections No. 14. The locals made it back-to-back sweeps of the event in 2015 when Danny Dietrich and Stevie Smith trounced the outlaws. Pittman was back for a win in 2016 with Dewease, now aboard the Kreitz No. 69K, taking the Saturday finale. Local driver Brock Zearfoss piloted the Long No. 58 to the win on night one in 2017 while Greg Hodnett ended up scoring the second feature aboard the Heffner mount albeit as a make up main in late September. Only the first night was completed in 2018 with Dewease returning for a victory, still in the 69K. The 2019 Summer Nationals saw Tim Shaffer pilot the Rudzik No. 49 to the opening night win while Schatz got back to Summer Nationals victory for the first time since 2013. Shane Stewart fended off Anthony Macri to win opening night in 2020 while David Gravel dominated on Saturday to lead flag to flag. In 2021 it was Sheldon Haudenschild and Brent Marks splitting Summer Nationals laurels with Marks scoring the big 20K Saturday finale. Haudenschild's Friday win was the first of his career at Williams Grove. Dewease was back again for a Friday victory in the 69K in 2022 while Saturdays big money win went to outlaws champion Brad Sweet for his elusive first-ever Williams Grove victory. In 2023 outlaws driver Logan Schuchart of nearby Hanover scored one that kept the local fans happy on Friday before independent California driver Rico Abreu walked off with the $20,000 Saturday loot to record his first-ever oval checkers. Last season TJ Stutts upended the outlaws in Friday night action also billed as the make-up Morgan Cup held over from May, taking $17,000 for the night one win. World of Outlaws champion David Gravel scored the 20K on Saturday in what was his 100th career outlaws series victory. Adult general admission for Friday night is $35 with students ages 13-20 admitted for just $15. Saturday adult general admission is $40 with students ages 13 - 20 priced at $20. Kids ages 12 and under are always admitted for FREE at Williams Grove Speedway. - Wagaman Wins Williams Grove Outlaws Tune-Up, Norris Sweeps 358s
Mechanicsburg - Troy Wagaman Jr. throttled Mike Heffner's No. 27 to the sprint car win at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, scoring a clean sweep of the evening by setting fast time, winning his heat, the dash and the 25-lap main event in the World of Outlaws Tune Up. Including $300 for fast time, Wagaman took $6,300 back to his hometown of Hanover for his fourth career win at the historic oval. In twin 358 sprint mains, Hanover's Dylan Norris took home the loot in both features. Wagaman started on the pole of the 410 sprint main and entered the rear of the field on lap six, trailed by fourth starter Lance Dewease. The feature would go non-stop from start to finish with a blistering pace being set by the leaders as traffic played a factor in action at the front of the field for the final 19 laps. For the most part Wagaman was able to navigate traffic and maintain an advantage over Dewease but by lap 15 amid hard racing between the backmarkers, Dewease was able to mount a challenge. And he was close enough to capitalize for the lead on lap 21 when Wagaman got held up in the first corner. Dewease used the cushion to blast around for control and duck down in front of Wagaman as the pair shot onto the backchute. But then ironically Dewease got boxed in by the same traffic that held up Wagaman moments earlier, allowing the Hanover pilot to throttle back out in front for the victory. Wagaman took the win by .308 seconds over Dewease with Kody Hartlaub riding home in third. Freddie Rahmer finished fourth with Justin Whittall completing the top five. Sixth through 10th went to TJ Stutts, Chad Trout, Cameron Smith, Matt Campbell and Tyler Ross. Heats went to Wagaman, Stutts and Hartlaub with Wagaman earning the pole for the feature by claiming the dash. Wagaman set fast time with a lap of 16.426 seconds. Dylan Norris wired the field in the make-up Dirty Deeds 25 limited sprint feature held over from April 4. He was chased early by Brett Wanner who would give up second to Andy Best on lap 13. Best finished in second by .923 seconds followed by Wanner, Scott Fisher and Nash Ely. The regularly scheduled 358 sprint main, a Summer Series event, saw Wanner lead the first 10 laps before eighth starter Norris drove into command. Wanner took the lead back from Norris on the 12th circuit but eventually again succumbed to Norris with nine laps to go. Fourth starter Derek Locke raced into second with seven laps to go but failed to challenge Norris for the win. Best was third followed by Wanner and Chase Gutshall. The wins were the fifth and sixth of Norris' career at Williams Grove. Heats went to Wanner, Adam Carberry, Chad Criswell and Cole Young with Frankie Herr winning the consolation race.
