Big Diamond Speedway Dirt Track News
- Louden Reimert wins close battle over Logan Watt in 358 Modified action at Big Diamond Speedway
(Minersville, PA 6-26-26) Dukmen's Enterprises Topless Night brought a distinctive twist to Big Diamond Speedway, with the Modifieds and Sportsman cars competing without their roof decks. The format challenged drivers to adjust their usual approach around the 3/8-mile dirt oval while giving fans a clearer view of the racers at work inside their cars. That added perspective was especially evident in the BQ Concrete 358 Modified feature, where Oley's Louden Reimert and Boyertown's Logan Watt staged an intense, lead-swapping battle at the front of the field. When the checkered flag fell, Reimert had parked the Doug and Annie Flurer-owned No. 16 in Victory Lane for the third time this season. Aside from the fact that a talent-laden field was on hand, for the most part all eyes stayed focused on Reimert and Watt, who captivated the crowd with their race-long close action. When the race commenced Reimert quickly grabbed the lead with Watt in tow along with Billy Puach Jr., in third. Early on Reimert was holding steady while Watt was having to deal with Pauch. Once Watt shook free of Pauch he was then able to zero in on Reimert. His persistence paid off when on lap 17 he had pulled alongside Reimert and in a thrilling side-by-side clash would complete the circuit as the new race leader. Reimert, though, remained close to Watt as the pair dazzled fans with outstanding wheel twisting action between them. Working the inside lane, Reimert was able to take back the top spot with six laps to go but it was short lived as Watt shot right back to the front on the subsequent tour. The duel continued into the closing laps, with Watt and Reimert keeping up their high flying momentum. Just as the white flag waved, the race was halted when Cliff Quinn spun, setting up a green-white-checkered finish. On the restart, Reimert seized the moment, powered past Watt, and held on to score the hard-fought victory. "That restart pretty much gave me the race," said Reimert who earned $7000 for the win. "The whole race I figured I had Logan (Watt) on me and the only bad thing about that is you don't know how close behind you he is and obviously he was close enough that he picked my pocket and got the lead." "I don't think I'd rather be racing against anyone for the win then him, he always runs me clean and he's probably the best young racer that's out there and hat's off to him." Reimert and Watt weren't the only ones providing the thrills. Mike Gular put on an amazing drive as he picked and clawed his way through the field from his 19th starting spot and garnered third place. Pauch Jr., had several side-by-side battles that he was faced with and settled for fourth including that with Duane Howard who ran as high as third and rounded out the top five. With the removal of the roof Reimert reflected his viewpoint as the point leader with the second half of the season about to begin. "It definitely changes things up and it makes the car a lot more unhooked and it makes it a little bit harder to get locked down come feature time but it's a cool thing to do once a year and it's a change of pace. It's also a draw show here while we're in the thick of the points and I enjoy it," he related. "I can't thank my guys enough for working in the shop, giving me a good car week in and week out. Driving it is the easy part, working on it during the week, maintaining it and being able to compete at a level like this is the hardest part." In the USS Achey Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman main Zach Steffey of Sinking Spring used a lap nine restart to move into the lead over Bryan Rhoads and drive off to his second win of the year. Pole sitter Rhoads would take charge from the get-go and was doing a solid job of fending off Kevin Smith. For Steffey, restarts played nicely into his hands first doing so on lap four when he got by Smith and what would be the winning move after the re-go prior to the midway point. As Steffey held the lead Rhoads was turning in a solid performance. He showed good poise while leading and then maintained second until late in the going when Bryce Bashore became a factor. Bashore would hustle past Rhoads with four laps to go and then pulled up close to Steffey. But Steffey wasn't about to let victory slip from his hands as he held back the unrelenting challenge and claimed the $1000 payday. In only his third race to date Bashore has been a top player with finishes of fifth, third and now second. Rhoads also notched his best effort coming in third. Rounding out the top five where Reice Widger and Matt Martino. Minersville's Joey Brennan took the lead at the outset of the Red White and Blue Autos Inc., Roadrunner feature and would not relinquish it as he raced to his second victory of 2026. When Terry Kramer moved into second on lap eight he stayed within reach of the leader and a few times made valid attempts to pass but there was no denying Brennan, who never wavered. In the waning laps Jarod Bassininsky was all over Kramer as those two finished closely in second and third. Joining the regular classes where the East Coast Legends. Jeremy Ott of Carlisle took the lead at the drop of the green and never looked back as he held off Scott Houdschell for what would be his first win at Big Diamond and seventh of the season. Points leader Logan Jones was third. 358 Modified finish (30 laps): 1. Louden Reimert, 2. Logan Watt, 3. Mike Gular, 4. Billy Pauch Jr., 5. Duane Howard, 6. Anthony Perrego, 7. Mike Lisowski, 8. - Mitchel Moles and Tim Buckwalter end runner-up status at Big Diamond Speedway
(Minersville, PA 6-18-26) Big Diamond Speedway served as host to night #3 of the Yokohama Tire Eastern Storm Presented by Levan Machine & Truck Equipment which featured the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship along with the BQ Concrete 358 Modifieds which paid $6000 and $3000 respectively to the winners. For both victors —Mitchel Moles of Raisin City, California, in the USAC feature and Tim Buckwalter of Pottstown in the Modified main—the night marked a long-awaited breakthrough at Big Diamond Speedway after previous runner-up finishes. Moles was second here in the past two Eastern Storm events while Buckwalter has taken runner-up finishes four times this season. In the USAC feature Moles got the jump on pole sitter Chase Stockon in taking to the early lead over Justin Grant, Stockon, Kevin Thomas Jr., and Brady Bacon. And it didn't take him long to establish himself as the top contender, pulling to a well-enough lead over Grant during the opening circuits. While Moles was well in control there was a heavily contested battle between Grant, Stockon, Kevin Thomas Jr., and Briggs Danner taking place. Most notable was Danner and Thomas Jr., as they were engaging in a thrilling dogfight, several times in side-by-side fashion. Danner would eventually get past Thomas and then zeroed in on Stockon and Grant. By the mid-way point Moles was well ahead of the pack. Meanwhile Danner had picked up third and was closing in on Grant when on lap 19 the caution waved for a spin by Olivia Thayer. On the restart Moles fired off perfectly to maintain his lead while Danner got a good run off turn 2 and passed Grant for second. But try as he may there was no denying Moles who drove every lap with perfection and went on to score his first Big Diamond Speedway USAC Sprint Car win and first on the Eastern Storm tour. Bacon, Grant and Stockon completed the top five. "It feels good to finally get one of these at Eastern Storm," said Moles. "I told Logan (Seavey), I think it was two years ago, 'man, I really want to win here.' It's got a hell of a crowd and it's in the middle of nowhere. It's kind of the stuff I like." The 358 Modified feature was edge-of-the-seat racing as Buckwalter had to fight tooth and nail with current points leader Louden Reimert en route to claim the hard fought verdict. The race began with an electrifying three-wide battle between Corey Renninger, Cliff Quinn and Tim Fitzpatrick and at the completion of the circuit it would be Quinn who secured the lead. A restart on lap two would see sixth starting Buckwalter take over third from Renninger and the next time around got by Fitzpatrick for second. Buckwalter then rode the outside line and in doing so raced to the top spot while working lap five. Fitzpatrick would also get by Quinn and after doing so reeled in leader Buckwalter and the pair then went into a great side-by-side clash with Fitzpatrick being scored at the front to begin lap nine. That would be short lived, however, as Buckwalter quickly reclaimed the lead as they exited the second corner and at the same time Reimert was now in on the hunt. Reimert cleared Fitzpatrick as lap 10 went into the books. From there, the race became an electrifying two-car battle. Lap after lap, Buckwalter was forced into defense, holding off a relentless challenge from Reimert, who continued to search for any opening to take the lead. In the closing laps Buckwalter was keeping his Weller Motorsports No. 942 on the bottom of the track which ultimately enabled him to secure his way to victory. "It feels great to finally get one and just for Dennis and Donna Weller for trusting in me to run this car. We've had a lot of speed, but it seemed that we just couldn't knock the door down. Tonight I tried to give it away. I got up on the top and once Louden (Reimert) showed us his nose I just had to slow down and be patient and that's what we did for the last 13 laps," said Buckwalter. "I knew he was there and he's just so good this year around the bottom and I knew that's where I had to stay on those closing laps, so I had to slow down because if he was going to go around me he was going to have to do it from the top." Duane Howard moved to third on lap 14 and remained there to the finish. Logan Watt held off Mike Lisowski in completing the top five. USAC Sprint Car finish (30 laps): 1. Mitchel Moles, 2. Briggs Danner, 3. Brady Bacon, 4. Justin Grant, 5. Chase Stockon, 6. Robert Ballou, 7. Kyle Cummins, 8. Jake Swanson, 9. Hayden Reinbold, 10. Ricky Lewis, 11. Cale Coons, 12. Christian Bruno, 13. - Logan Watt shakes free of the hard luck and claims first 358 Modified win of season at Big Diamond Speedway
(Minersville, PA 6-12-26) After several weeks of near-misses and bad luck, Logan Watt of Boyertown broke through Friday night at Big Diamond Speedway, earning his first win of the season in the headline BQ Concrete 358 Modified feature on Foran's Transmission and Auto Repair Night. "I didn't think I'd ever reach Victory Lane the way my luck has been going but everyone works so hard on this car and over the winter we all put our blood, sweat and tears and everything we had into it and I am super thankful for everything they all did for me this year," offered Watt, who drives the Fitzpatrick owned No. EZ4. This was a feature that turned out to be run at a blazing pace as all 25 laps went nonstop. An impressive running Corey Renninger hammered down at the outset and blasted into the early lead while fifth starting Watt surged into third behind Kevin Olenick by lap three. Renninger looked strong out front, setting the early pace. Meanwhile, Olenick and Watt battled closely for position until Watt secured the spot after six laps and quickly set his sights on Renninger. Doing all he could to protect his lead, Renninger finally gave way to Watt at the halfway point. "He (Renninger) had a fast car for sure and when you're in clean air like that you can definitely set your own pace and it was very challenging to get around him and he was trying everything he could to hold the lead," said Watt. Once Watt took command there would be no backing down as he steadily circled around with a safe enough distance over the rest of the field. Not long after taking the lead Olenick also got by Renninger but could not reel in the high flying Watt who cruised to a gratifying victory. "I knew we had a fast piece every week and it's been a matter of trying to be consistent. We took a little rumble and roll two weeks ago and then last week we were leading the race and the left front locked up and finally we got in a full night," said Watt.. "What a great group of people to be with and to finally capture a win with this team, it means a lot." Olenick's runner-up was a season-best and likewise with Renninger who held on for third and notched his first top-5 in sometime. Fourth went to Rick Laubach while Wayne Witmer turned in a steady run to round out the top five. He may not race on a weekly basis, but when he does Nate Brinker of Macungie shows just how tough he can be. For the second time in five starts Brinker scored the win with the USS Achey 602 Crate Sportsman. And in his previous races he'd run, Brinker has notched all top-5s. Brinker started mid-pack in the 23-car field from 11th position. Using multiple restarts to pick off cars and smart lane choices under green, he steadily worked his way forward. He eventually charged into second, set his sights on leader Zach Steffey, and made the winning move with six laps remaining. No question Steffey was very strong, He took the lead from Aaron Weaver on a lap eight restart and was then holding off Brinker, who had moved up to second at the halfway mark. However, Brinker used a restart five laps later by motoring around the outside to get past Steffey who would settle for second at the checkers. A hard-charging Bryce Bayshore came from 17th to third while Ryan Conrad and Matt Martino filled out the top five. What a turnaround week it's been for veteran Jim Kost of Minersville. A week ago, while leading the first lap of the Red White and Blue Autos Inc. Roadrunner feature Kost took a nasty barrel-roll on the back straight which left his No. 126 heavily damaged and himself feeling a bit sore. After the accident Kost had even given some thought to hang up his helmet. With help pouring in during the week, Kost was able to prepare his backup car. Showing plenty of resilience, he then held off every challenge, led all 20 laps, and claimed a well-earned victory. Second place finisher Kris Ney was all over Kost in the closing laps but there would be no denying the drive and determination by the winner on this night, scoring his 16th career class win. In the Big Creek Concrete Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman main Devin Whitmoyer of Hamburg parlayed his pole starting spot into his second win in the past three starts. Just as he was when he won his first feature, Whitmoyer was picture perfect on each passing lap and took the verdict with ease over runner-up Zach Moyer. 358 Modified finish (25 laps): 1. Logan Watt, 2. Kevin Olenick, 3. Corey Renninger, 4. Rick Laubach, 5. Wayne Witmer, 6. Duane Howard, 7. Louden Reimert, 8. Jimmy Leiby, 9. Mike Lisowski, 10. Tim Bucwalter, 11. Kevin Beach Jr., 12. Aleia Geisler, 13. Heath Metzger, 14. Jax Yohn, 15. Alan Rudalavage, 16. Cliff Quinn, 17. Mike Burrows, 18. Adrianna Delliponti, 19. Chris Esposito, 20. Tim Fitzpatrick 602 Crate Sportsman finish (20 Laps): 1. Nate Brinker, 2. Zach Steffey, 3. Bryce Bayshore, 4. Ryan Conrad, 5. Matt Martino, 6. Dakota Kohler, 7. Kevin Smith, 8. Aaron Weaver, 9. Mike Schneck Jr., 10. Reice Widger, 11. Kevin Fitzpatrick, 12. Dennis Graber, 13. Nick Arment, 14. Ed Mrochko, 15. Ryan Graver, 16. McKenzi Smith, 17. Nick Hamm, 18. Mark Behm, 19. Bryan Rhoades, 20. Johnathan Trumbo, 7. Andrew Buchinski, 8. Brian Johnson, 9. Joey Brennan Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman finish (15 laps): 1. Devin Whitmoyer, 2. Zach Moyer, 3. Payton Renninger, 4. Lucas Weil
- Big Diamond Speedway Presents All Four Track Classes Plus Burnout Contest This Friday, June 12
(Minersville, PA 6-7-26) Big Diamond Speedway has enjoyed an outstanding season so far, marked by exciting on-track action, enthusiastic fan support, and a remarkable streak of nine consecutive race nights to open the year without a single weather cancellation which is the third longest streak in track history. And the popular 3/8th mile Schuylkill County dirt oval will be looking for more of the same this coming Friday evening, June 12 on Foran's Transmission & Auto Repair Service Night. On the night's docket will be the BQ Concrete 358 Modifieds, USS Achey Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman, Red White and Blue Autos Inc Roadrunners and the Big Creek Concrete Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman plus a special intermission event, a $500-to-win Burnout Contest. Coming off a dramatic last-to-first place victory, Louden Reimert heads into Friday's action as the current 358 Modified points leader. The top five in points are made up of Mike Lisowski, Tim Buckwalter, Duane Howard and Rick Laubach. Also tallying a second win on the year last week was 602 Crate Sportsman point leader Ryan Graver. Graver is the first driver to repeat with the division this season and comes into this week's action holding steady in the standings over Mike Schneck Jr., Zach Steffey, Brennan Chapman and Dakota Kohler. With his 41st division victory last Friday, Alex Schoffstall continues to raise the standard in the Roadrunners as the division's all-time feature wins leader. As impressive as that milestone is, he still faces a deep and talented field each week that keeps him under constant pressure and gives fans the close, exciting racing they have come to expect. The Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman will be back at it. Kevin Fitzpatrick, Devin Whitmoyer and most recently Zach Moyer scored their career first wins this year and chances are very good to see a few others add their names to the growing list of Rookie Sportsman race winners. - Last too fast, Reimert makes it two in a row at Big Diamond Speedway
(Minersville, PA 6-5-26) For Louden Reimert, his night almost ended before it even started. Mechanical trouble on his No. 16 forced him to miss both warm-ups and his heat. Luckily the problem was rectified by feature time, however, it put him last on the grid for the start of the main. Entering the night as the points leader, Reimert could only hope to salvage a respectable finish after being put so far behind the eight ball. But with a little luck, some savvy driving and a bad fast car, the Oley hot shoe got more than he could have wished for as he stormed through the pack in haste and by lap 16 was challenging then leader Jimmy Leiby for the top spot. On the ensuing circuit Reimert was in command and remained there to the checkers to make it back-to-back victories at Big Diamond Speedway on Moyer's Body Shop & Auto Repair Night. "It just seemed at the beginning of the night we couldn't do anything right and starting dead last I was trying to see what I can get, pick off who I could and just try and still have a good points night given the circumstances," said Reimert. "I followed the 15G (Duane Howard) and he was pinballing through the field pretty good, so I just stayed on his back bumper, got through and we got the job done. We just had some unforeseen circumstances pop up but we overcame them and kept our heads down and kept digging and here we are." This was a race that had several different drama scenes play out. Logan Watt snagged the lead from Leiby on a lap three restart and once at the helm he was appearing to finally turn the tides on what has been a tough luck season to this point. Likewise with Tim Buckwalter who blasted up to second by lap seven. Buckwalter has been extremely quick this year including this night where he had set the fastest lap of the feature and for the fifth time was running in second place. Unfortunately, he was the reason for a caution three laps later when he stopped in Turn 4 and was through for the night. A second caution on the same lap also sidelined Watt, whose suspension broke and abruptly ended his night. That put Leiby back in front, with Tim Fitzpatrick, Reimert, Howard and Rick Laubach lined up behind him. Leiby was putting together a strong run and did everything he could to hold the lead, but Reimert was charging hard. He got by Fitzpatrick with 10 laps remaining and made the winning move two laps later. As for Reimert, it was indeed an incredible run coming from dead last and going on to score the victory. Howard got by Leiby with five laps to go and took second spot. With two circuits remaining Laubach went to third. Leiby still notched a season best fourth while Fitzpatrick rounded out the top five. "This one is for the Newman family who have been helping me for a long time and Fred (Newman) lost his dad this week and so to get it done tonight and be able to have a good run with them guys, it means a lot," said Reimert. "This car was really good, and I can't thank my guys enough, my car owner Doug and Annie Flurer and all my sponsors. They all make it possible for us to come out here and have a good car and that means the world to me." Reimert wasn't the only points leader having a good night as the same could be said for USS Achey Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman winner Ryan Graver and Red White and Blue Autos Inc. Roadrunner victor Alex Schoffstall. In the Sportsman feature Kevin Smith took first place from Ed Mrochko on lap two and then began to build a comfortable lead. But on the seventh go-around a caution would wipe that away and the race would restart with Smith over Mike Schneck Jr., Mrochko and Graver. Putting on a display of raw power Graver got hooked-up on the outside groove and then proceeded to rocket past the three cars ahead of him and by the time the lap was completed he was planted firmly at the front. He would have no problems staying their either as the Lehighton driver cruised to his second win and becomes the first to repeat in what has been an ultra-competitive season for the Sportsman division. While Graver was headed to the checkers, Smith and Schneck put on a sizzling battle for the runner-up spot which was hard-fought right to the end and went to Smith. Nick Hamm and Ryan Conrad completed the top five. In the Roadrunners Llewellyn's Schoffstall battled early leader Joey Brennan in a very tight run at the front. On a night that was being presented by his sponsor, Moyer's Body Shop & Auto Sales, Brennan was looking to sweep the evening after winning his heat and the Challenge Race. But after a fiercely contested half dozen laps Brennan could not hold off Schoffstall any longer and yielded the lead over at the start of lap seven. From there Schoffstall was on cruise control and went on to make it a division high four wins in seven starts and in the process move back to the top of the class standings. The Big Creek Concrete Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman race saw another first time winner emerge as Zach Moyer of York became the latest to enjoy the spoils of a career-first win with the apprentice class. Moyer started third but needed only one lap to move out-front, doing so over Mason Harakel. Afterwards he was smooth and steady en route to a deserving victory over Devin Whitmoyer, who was the previous winner and also helped in setting up Moyer's car. The night was capped off with a 50-lap Big Car Enduro and when Brandon Guyer dropped out after leading the first 29 laps, veteran Big Diamond racer Chris Reichert of New Ringold took over and went on to score his first Enduro win in 16 years over Scott Riggleman and Amber Reichert. 358 Modified finish (25 laps): 1. - Louden Reimert capitalizes on late incident to win Big Diamond Speedway Modified feature
(Minersville, PA 5-29-26) Through the first eight races of the season defending Big Diamond Speedway 358 Modified champion Louden Reimert of Oley has been very fast and consistently reeling off strong finishes, but although he's shown plenty of quickness, he's only credited with leading a single feature lap, however, it was the one that counted most. On BQ Concrete Night Reimert inherited the top spot with one lap to go and then held off a valiant charge by Tim Buckwalter to earn his first win here of 2026. Reimert was headed for a strong finish, but not necessarily a victory as Rick Laubach held a commanding lead late in the race. That changed dramatically on the final lap. Entering the last corner, Tim Fitzpatrick was just ahead of Laubach when his car suddenly stepped sideways. With nowhere to go, Laubach made contact with Fitzpatrick, and both cars came to a stop, opening the door for then runner-up Reimert to take over the lead. That would set up a one lap dash to the checkers between Reimert and Buckwalter. With just enough power to get the job done Reimert scored the victory with the Doug and Annie Flurer owned No. 15. "First and foremost, I have to say that I feel horrible for Rick (Laubach) and that's a super tough deal coming out of (turn) four to the checkered, that was tough and he obviously had the car to beat tonight. But unfortunately, stuff like that happens and we were at the right place at the right time," said Reimert who notched his 10th career Big Diamond Speedway win. "That last lap of the race was probably the hardest lap I ran because I know just how these things go and as everyone saw you don't know what happens until you come across that finish line and you have to be on your toes for a restart like that because whoever is beside you or behind you is going to do whatever it takes to win." At the outset Aleia Geisler took control of the early lead ahead of Cliff Quinn and Laubach but no sooner was the first lap run than the race was halted when Logan Watt took a wild tumble in Turn 3. Thankfully, he walked away unscathed. On the restart Laubach wasted no time as he quickly moved past Quinn, then slipped by Geisler to take the lead. From there he stretched his advantage during a long green-flag run and steadily pulled away from the field. While Laubach continued to lead comfortably, Geisler held firm in second and kept Buckwalter at bay until the midway point. Reimert then worked his way past Geisler as well, setting up an intense battle with Buckwalter before securing second place with 10 laps remaining and the pair would remain locked in a fierce battle from there on. "Timmy ran me clean," said Reimert, who thanks to his win has assumed the point's lead. "The car has been really consistent, and we've had some different track conditions over the first part of the season here and it's been steadily fast and hats off to my guys who all work hard to get this car fast and where it needs to be and it's finally paying off." Last week's winner Jax Yohn came from 17th to fourth while Mike Liswoski rounded out the top five. What a year this is turning out to be for Kevin Fitzpatrick of Branch Dale who is proving to be "The Real Deal." In a matter of five starts, amazingly he's won four times. Fitzpatrick started out the season in the Big Creek Concrete Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman class and reeled off three straight wins which then elevated him into the regular USS Achey Inc. Sportsman division. Qualifying for just the second time, Fitzpatrick looked like a natural among a strong field of veteran drivers. After taking the lead from Tyler Vidal following a lap one restart, Fitzpatrick then held his stance the rest of the way in claiming his first win with the regular Sportsman. His effort came hard-earned too as Zach Steffey and Matt Martino made him work hard for the win. Several times Steffey made valid attempts to get by and most of those tries saw Martino tagging closely along. But Fitzpatrick was able to maintain a consistent line of defense which enabled him to keep his lead and go on to score the popular verdict. In the Red White and Blue Autos Inc. Roadrunners Alex Schoffstall of Llewellyn motored to an unprecedented division record-extending 40th career win. And to say that it was hard-fought would be a huge understatement as he worked tirelessly to get the lead from Joe Bassininisky while also having to fend off Mike Reichert at the same time. But in typical Schoffstall style he remained focused and zeroed in on Bassininsky, looking for just the right moment to make his move. With the laps winding down Schoffstall finally made his race winning maneuver with three laps to go, passing Bassininsky and then going on the record the remarkable feat of 40 class wins. The Infinite Solutions Group Keystone Sport Compact Series made their second appearance of the season and Brian Moyer of Reading would claim the win, but it came as a bit of a surprise. With three laps remaining, the race was stopped after one car rolled over and several others were caught up in the incident. During the stoppage, then-leader Ian Whitcomb suddenly pulled off, handing the lead to Moyer. Moyer then held on over the final laps to finish ahead of Gary Grimm and Andrew Keefer and claim the unexpected victory. 358 Modified finish (25 laps): 1. Louden Reimert, 2. Tim Buckwalter, 3. - Jax Yohn gets first 358 Modified win at Big Diamond Speedway
(Minersville, PA 5-22-26) Jax Yohn of Boyertown continues to make rapid strides in the BQ Concrete 358 Modifieds at Big Diamond Speedway. In just his second season with the headline class, the 18-year-old scored his first division victory on Friday evening, turning in a standout performance against a field of seasoned veterans and this coming a week after posting a motivating then personal best fourth. His progression, though, should come as no surprise. When he first began running Modifieds at Big Diamond Speedway it was with the Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman and he showed his worth by winning four times. The next year he advanced into the regular Crate class and made an immediate statement scoring back-to-back wins to start the season. In Friday's memorable run, Yohn started seventh and quickly hustled his way in behind veterans Tim Fitzpatrick, who was leading the way, Mike Lisowski and Rick Laubach. Following a lap-three restart, he slipped past Laubach and then went head-to-head with Lisowski. Yohn finally cleared him on lap nine, and with his momentum still building, he grabbed the lead one lap later. Once out front, Yohn drove a precise race. Lisowski, who moved into second on lap 14, applied heavy pressure, but the young talent never wavered and raced on to a defining victory. Not only did Yohn hold off the assault of Lisowski but that of Duane Howard too who was right within reach. Louden Reimert was fourth and Fitzpatrick rounded out the top five. "I've always wanted to be at this level and tonight my crew gave me a great car, and it all just played to perfection," said Yohn. "It's so awesome to be running against all those guys. I was about four years old when I first started going to the races and watching them and now here we are racing with them at their level, it's pretty cool. The track was amazing and it had multiple lanes." The USAC East Coast Sprint Cars presented by Baer Den Farms saw Christian Bruno of Depford, NJ go on to win in the 25-lap main. Bruno quickly climbed to second behind early leader Kyle Spence by lap two and immediately began plotting his next move and on the conclusion of lap six executed an inside pass off turn four to take the lead. However, that would be negated when the caution waved for a slowed car to close to the race surface. There would be a rash of yellow and red flags on the ensuing restarts and on each of those Bruno was again making valid attempts to unseat Spence. Lastly, when things settled Bruno flashed by Spence at the start of lap eight and finally took control of the lead. Stephen Drevicki did the same to Spence by lap 10 but there he would stay as Bruno clearly had the upper hand and went on to his first Big Diamond Speedway victory. In the USS Achey Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman main, Virginville's Dakota Kohler can finally rest easy as he collected a well-deserved victory. In the past few seasons there was perhaps no driver who has worked harder to get a win than Kohler as he'd often been in a position to do so. He's never been short of speed and clearly he's got the talent, rather it was a matter of luck and on Friday all of those factors came together. Pole sitter McKenzie Smith showed the way at the outset while the fifth starting Kohler was quick to get up to second within three laps. After getting by Aaron Weaver for second, one lap later he did the same to Smith for the lead. Kohler was then building a commanding lead ahead of Smith, who was dueling closely with Ryan Graver. On lap eight a caution would tighten up the field and on that restart Graver was able to get past Smith and tuck in behind Kohler. A few laps later would see Nate Brinker tag in with the front pair. But for both Graver and Brinker all they could do was follow Kohler who had no problems keeping them at bay. Kohler did have a bit of luck too as a caution with four laps to go would end the race due to rain that hit the track and checkered it there. In the Big Creek Concrete Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman Devin Whitmoyer of Hamburg cruised to his career first feature win. From the pole Whitmoyer took immediate control and once he did there was no looking back as he hit all his marks perfectly and went on to a solid win ahead of Josh Metzger. Whitmoyer is the son of veteran Craig Whitmoyer who is the all-time career wins leader and 4-time champion in Open Sportsman Modifieds. 358 Modified finish (25 laps): 1. Jax Yohn, 2. - BRUNO BAGS USAC EAST COAST SPRINT CAR VICTORY AT BIG DIAMOND
Christian Bruno took the lead on lap eight and led the remaining 18 laps to collect his first USAC East Coast Sprint Cars Presented by Baer Den Farms feature victory of the season on Friday night at Pottsville, Pennsylvania’s Big Diamond Speedway.
- Ryan Graver bags $2000 win in Crate Classic at Big Diamond Speedway…Kevin Beach Jr. grabs 358 Modified victory…Jarod Bassinisky tops in Roadrunners
(Minersville, PA 5-15-26) If you're going to get a first win may as well make it a good one and for Lehighton's Ryan Graver that's just what he did in nailing down his first Big Diamond Speedway victory in the Crate Classic on Red White and Blue Autos Inc. Night. Graver rocketed to a $2000 win in the 30-lap main for the USS Achey Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman division which took center stage Friday evening. With a season high of 41 cars signed in none demonstrated better speed than Graver who turned the fasted laps throughout the night. That quickness helped him win his heat and he then carried that momentum into a big feature win. "I just can't thank Monte (Pool/car owner) enough for letting me run this car and it's just been on rails, and it seems that we haven't had that little bit at the end and tonight we did," said Graver. A "Revenge Draw" saw Christopher Buffalino and Shawn Light share the front row while Graver began from eighth. Buffalino would take control once the action commenced with Light following in second. Graver wasted little time in his advancement, moving to third by lap six. The race's first 16 laps went without a hitch as Buffalino set a steady pace in leading the way. A trio of cautions, however, on that circuit set-up for Graver's good fortune most notably the third yellow when Light had stopped and handed over the runner-up spot to Graver. It would be on that restart that Graver's race winning move would take place when he out-hustled his No. 21P past Buffalino and grabbed the reign as the new leader. At the same time Joe Toth motored into second. From that point on, Toth did everything he could to stay with Graver, especially on several restarts when the two ran side by side. But there was no denying the fast-handed Graver who was able to shake free of the Toth after only a few laps. "Early on we had such a good run off the initial start and were up to fourth in just a couple of laps. From there I was just trying to watch everyone in front of me and figure out where to go then that caution helped me out and got me to third," relayed Graver. "Joe (Toth) then got to my inside door, but he raced me so clean and racing tight like that with someone you on so well, it's so much fun." For a while Mike Toth was running close with the leaders but dropped out with five laps to go. Steady running Steven Kemery would then secure third spot after some very close racing with Kevin Smith. Bryce Bashore rounded out the top five, coming from 22nd. For Graver, he had a car in contention all season, and on this night everything came together for his long-awaited victory. "As the track progressed it felt really good and as the race went on to me it felt like it was better on the top although all the way around it was a very good race track, you could move were you had to and work every lane and that's just what you want in a track," added Graver "My first few years running Crates here we were so close so many times and to come back here this year and right off the bat we came out swinging at every single race then to come off the last race when we broke our power steering and we felt we could have won that race, then to come here tonight and win makes up for everything." In the BQ Concrete 358 Modifieds Kevin Beach Jr., of Minersville made a big turnround to some early season woes in capturing the win in the 25-lapper. Beach's results to date were not indicative of what he knew he and his team was capable of, with only a pair of sixth place runs as his best showing. And even before the feature there was some uncertainty as the car was not firing right following his heat, but he and the crew kept working, and from his outside front-row starting spot he turned that opportunity into a hard-fought victory. "In the heat race it missed terribly, and we changed the carburetor after that. We struggled a lot this year and I have a lot of good guys who help me out and it's been a valiant effort to get this car to turn and handle and not bounce around and it worked great tonight," said Beach. The record will show that Beach led every lap but make no mistake he was immersed in constant pressure throughout the race. At first an impressive Jax Yohn kept Beach on his toes. Yohn stayed on the leader through the first 10 laps before Tim Buckwalter along with Louden Reimert moved in behind Beach. Buckwalter stayed glued to Beach's rear bumper, repeatedly searching for a way past, but Beach answered every challenge and never gave up the lead. The determined Buckwalter made it very thrilling on the final lap when he tried to get underneath Beach as they sprinted to the finish line but came up just short with Reimert tailing closely in their tire tracks. "I almost gave it away a couple times on the cushion, but I wasn't getting off of there, you were going to have to go underneath me and try the slick, I wasn't about to move down," said Beach. "Tim (Buckwalter) has been really fast here, and Louden (Reimert) is fast everywhere he goes and I couldn't imagine there was a much better line, and Tim is very good on the bottom so I just kept running it in as hard as I could and bouncing around and just let it ease." Yohn held on for a career best fourth with the Modified while the previous week's winner Duane Howard rounded out the top five. In the Red White and Blue Autos Inc. Roadrunners Jarod Bassininsky of Schuylkill Haven snagged the lead from CJ Ferguson with seven laps to go and then held off Joey Brennan in scoring his first win of the season. Brian Johnson held down the front spot from the outset before Ferguson took command on a lap six restart. Bassininsky had worked his tail off under some very tight racing in getting to second by mid-race and once there he then set his sights on Ferguson. After taking the lead, he still had to hold off Brennan, and he did just that to earn a well-deserved victory. 358 Modified finish (25 laps): 1. Kevin Beach Jr., 2. Tim Buckwalter, 3. Louden Reimert, 4. Jax Yohn, 5. Duane Howard, 6. Kevin Olenick, 7. Jared Umbenhauer, 8. Logan Watt, 9. Mike Lisowski, 10. Cody Manmiller, 11. Tim Fitzpatrick, 12. Aleia Geisler, 13. Wayne Witmer, 14. (Minersville, PA 5-11-26) Big Diamond Speedway will be looking to make it six straight starts to get the season rolling this coming Friday evening, May 15, for Red White and Blue Autos Inc., Night. In action will be the BQ Concrete 358 Modifieds, the USS Achey Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman and the Red White and Blue Autos Inc. Roadrunners. This year marks the third running of the Crate Classic, an event that consistently attracts strong fields for good reason. As they do throughout the season, track owners Jake and Jasmine Smulley have posted an impressive purse for the show. The Crate Classic was first held in 2024 with Xavier Sprague garnering the victory while last year saw Adrianna Deliponti collect the big win. This season thus far has seen four different winners in as many races with Colin Cox, Zach Steffey, Nate Brinker and Kevin Smith picking up wins with the 602 Crate Sportsman. There will be a draw for heat starting spots, and a revenge redraw held in Victory Lane for the feature. Show-up points will be awarded provided drivers make a valid qualifying attempt. Over the past few weeks, the 358 Modifieds have had some very close racing which has also led to a tight point battle as well. Coming off his fourth straight top five Tim Buckwalter has taken the point lead ahead of Mike Lisowski. There has also been four different winners in the first five races including this past Friday when Duane Howard picked up his 94th career Big Diamond Speedway victory. Lisowski and Alex Yankowski each have notched wins while Rick Laubach scored back-to-back verdicts. The Roadrunners will round out the thrilling program. It seems more and more that the features for this exciting full-fender class just keeps ramping up better each week. This division does not disappoint. The evening sponsor, Red White and Blue Autos Inc., is located at 500 S. Hoffman Boulevard, Ashland. Many of their clients take advantage of online shopping to find a quality, used car, truck or SUV. Pit gates will open on Friday at 5:00 pm with grandstands at 5:30 pm. Hot laps get underway beginning at 7:00 pm followed by racing. Pit admission is $35 for Big Diamond Speedway members and $45 for non-members. Adult general admission is $25, students 10-15 are $10 and kids 9 and under are free. Big Diamond Speedway is located at 392 Forest Lane, Pottsville. - Duane Howard grabs 94th Big Diamond Speedway Modified victory in nonstop feature action
(Minersville, PA 5-8-26) There was certainly a question about racing Friday night at Big Diamond Speedway on JRL Emergency Services Night as rain clouds had crossed the area just as cars began to conduct the pre-race track packing. But track owner/promoter Jake Smulley wasn't so quick to throw in the towel. With just a minimal delay he stayed the course and the entire show went on without a hitch and it would turn out to be another action-filled night for all four divisions on hand. In the BQ Concrete 358 Modifieds, veteran driver Duane Howard of Oley earned his first victory of the season in a nonstop 25-lap feature. Howard started fourth and within three laps was showing the way after taking the lead from Alan Rudalavage and from there on the race was flat out. Setting a blistering pace, Howard not only put himself well enough ahead of the pack he was also unfazed by lapped traffic and maintained an unmatchable run from start to finish. "Thanks to the Butch Getz Race Team. We had struggled a little bit here in the first few races and tonight we brought a different car, and we never changed a thing on it all night," said Howard. "The rain earlier made the track a little bit tackier than we are used to, but you could move around the and get by lappers and it was just a darn good race car and thanks to Nick Gatto for tuning it a little better tonight. We are starting to get on a roll with some good finishes, and we just need to keep at it." Louden Reimert had charged into second on lap 11, but although he was turning laps nearly as fast as Howard, the leader had already built a comfortable advantage by then and would remain in the runner-up spot to the checkers. Kevin Olenick put in a strong run and was third for his best run to date. Tim Buckwalter scored his fourth straight top five in the first five races and in doing so has taken command of the points lead. Dom Buffalino rounded out the top-5. "Tonight, with the rain the track was maybe a little heavier than what most drivers like to see but the last couple weeks you can't ask for better racing. With the rain tonight we had two grooves of racing and hats off to Jake (Smulley) for what he's doing," said Howard. The win marked the 94th for the nine-time track champion who is second all-time in victories at Big Diamond Speedway. "I have a lot of laps around Big Diamond and I cherish everyone," shared Howard. "I've been so fortunate to have so many good car owners and so many good rides and so many pit crew members that stuck with me and a lot of my guys have been here since day one. We've been fortunate to be able to adapt to all those good rides that came along." The Limited Late Models made a return to the track for the first time in four seasons and their 20-lap race was a thriller as George Dixon Jr., of Shirleysburg held off one very hard-charger in Andrew Yoder. Dixon took the lead from Travis Horan on a lap-four restart and, despite a string of cautions, never faltered from the top spot. He did, however, have to contend with Yoder who marched his way to second by mid-race and kept persistently pressuring Dixon. Despite Yoder's the ongoing efforts Dixon was able to hold him off and go on to victory. In an amazing display of swiftness, 15 cars went under the track record and the quickest of them all was new record holder Lane Snook who set the new mark at15.337-seconds. The Red White and Blue Autos Inc. Roadrunner feature was a wild affair to say the least as each of the 20 laps was white-knuckle racing and when all was said and done Jesse Krasnisky of Minersville would end a 10-year dry spell. The race opened with Tod Roth Jr. in front, but his lead lasted only until lap five, when points leader Alex Schoffstall took over and at the same time Joey Brennan moved to second. That began a very close battle amongst the front pair, but it would be limited to just the halfway mark. On a lap-10 restart Schoffstall and Brennan got together, and the result was both cars were eliminated in the aftermath. Jim Kost was now in control but was under immense pressure from TJ Fitzpatrick, CJ Ferguson, Jonathan Trumbo and Mike Reichert. Then following a late race caution the outcome came down to a final lap shootout with Kost having to deal with teammates Fitzpatrick and Krasnitsky. As the trio sped down the back straight and all under a blanket close race conditions would send Kost spinning as they all worked through the final two corners. It was then a drag race to the checkers between the teammates with Fitzpatrick first by a few inches. However, in Victory Lane, Fitzpatrick said Krasnitsky had the better car and deserved the win, so he handed over the victory to his teammate. The Xcel 600 Modifieds had their lone appearance of the season and Tyler Bartik of Schnecksville parlayed his pole starting spot into a win. Bartik had little if any trouble in leading every lap en route to his winning verdict. Dylan Cordier was second and in his heat also set a new track record for the Xcel cars at 16.925-seconds. 358 Modified finish (25 laps): 1. Duane Howard, 2. Louden Reimert, 3. Kevin Olenick, 4. - Rick Laubach goes back-to-back in thrilling 358 Modified action at Big Diamond Speedway
(Minersville, PA 4-24-26) Any concerns regarding track conditions at Big Diamond Speedway and the limited opportunities for passing during the initial two weeks were completely alleviated in the most recent events. The last two shows, particularly Friday's Tony's Meat Market Night, showcased all four feature races delivering exciting, high-quality action with finishes that kept fans on the edge of their seats, right down to the wire. Of those thrilling outcomes, "The Quaker Shaker" Rick Laubach of Quakertown, authored a magnificent performance in capturing his second straight win in the headline BQ Concrete 358 Modifieds. 12th starting Laubach came on like gangbusters over the final few laps and was engaged in a sizzling battle with front runners Duane Howard and Logan Watt. With four laps to go Watt had taken the lead from Howard and at the same time Laubach advanced to second. He then zeroed in on Watt and the next time by, hurdled to the front and held on for the exhilarating victory. "Jake (Smulley) once again gave us a great track and you could run multiple lines tonight," said Laubach. "I started 12th and I got knocked back to like 16th or 17th but I just ran calm and then once I got towards the front and everyone singled out and they moved somewhere I moved to the other place and that's all you could ask for in racing." Outside front-row starter Howard took quick command of the feature while Cody Manmiller and Watt battled for second. By lap three Watt had advanced past Manmiller and then stayed in close behind Howard. Even though Watt was persistent in trying to get to the front, Howard remained strong in holding down his post. Coming into the wanning laps though, things began to intensify. Watt had upped the pressure and began swooping down on Howard while the fast-approaching Laubach suddenly came into the picture by way of his zipping quite rapidly around others. Despite Watt's relentless efforts to advance, Howard continued to defend his position at the front, showing remarkable resilience. As the race entered its final laps, the intensity increased dramatically. Watt ramped up his challenge, closing in on Howard and applying greater pressure. Meanwhile, Laubach, who had been steadily advancing through the field, suddenly emerged as a major contender, swiftly overtaking competitors and joining the fray for the lead. Watt's insistency finally paid off when he was able to thrust by Howard at the start of lap 22. However, his stay at the front was short-lived as Laubach continued with his burst of forward drive, slipping by Howard and then charging right past Watt for the lead which he clung to the finish. Fourth place finisher Louden Reimert was also a swift-moving car, having come from the back following a lap-two caution but blasted his way to solid finish. Tim Buckwalter rounded out the top five. It was the 30th career win for Laubach at Big Diamond and the fourth time he had notched back-to-back verdicts. "What more can you ask for, Big Diamond is back," and elated Laubach said in Victory Lane. "We didn't do a damn thing to this car from last week, didn't even scale it. You don't have to work on your car much when there's a track to race at, you just have to drive it if you're comfortable with it." In the USS Achey Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman main, Kevin Smith of Lehighton used a lap-15 restart to get by race-long leader Ryan Conrad and score his first win of the season. From the early going Conrad was working feverously to maintain his lead as he was having to withstand the onslaught of teammates Smith and Nate Brinker. And despite the duel who were coming at him from both sides, Conrad never wavered. His fate, though, would be sealed when point leader Ryan Graver spun and brought out a caution with five tours remaining. Smith was lined up to Conrad's outside and as the action resumed he simply outgunned past and took over the lead. Although Conrad tried his best to recapture what was his, Smith prevailed while Brinker finished a close third. The Red White and Blue Autos Inc. Roadrunner feature was flat out close racing from start to finish. And the record will show that Minersville's Joey Brennan would take the lead on lap seven and hold it to the finish but there was plenty more to this story. As the race unfolded Brennan was submersed under the most intense pressure from the likes of Jarad Bassinisky, Alex Schoffstall and Mike Reichert as all four cars continually ran under a blanket. And while Brennan held the lead the other trio traded spots back and forth and appeared at any given time could snag the top spot. But Brennan refused to back down as he remained firmly footed in his quest to reach the checkers first. The final lap would be the most adrenaline-charged of them all. With Schoffstall now second he was able to pull even with Brennan, and they would then run neck-and-neck to the finish. By the narrowest of margins, .021-seconds, Brennan eked out the victory. It would also mark the end of an eight year dry spell, having last won a feature in 2018. The Infinite Solutions Group Keystone Sport Compact Series made their first appearance of the season and did not disappoint either with a solid 20 car field and an action-pack feature race that would see Jeff Foster of Aspers battle against Larry Eck en route to scoring the popular win. Eck was leading the event from lap eight and with six laps to go would have Foster breathing down his back. Foster kept glued to the tail of Eck and then using lapped traffic to his advantage he was able to set up and slip by for the top spot with just two laps remaining and score the victory. 358 Modified finish (25 laps): 1. Rick Laubach, 2. Logan Watt, 3. Duane Howard, 4. Louden Reimert, 5. Tim Buckwalter, 6. Cody Manmiller, 7. Jax Yohn, 8. Mike Lisowski, 9. Mike Burrows, 10. Brandon Edgar, 11. Wayne Witmer, 12. - Racy track helps Rick Laubach drive to Modified victory at Big Diamond Speedway
(Minersville, PA 4-17-26) Friday night's racing action at Big Diamond Speedway, which was sponsored by Frank DiMarco Autobody and Auto Repair of New Philadelphia, saw all six features that where run produce plenty of side-by-side racing and passing thanks to a well-prepared track surface. In the BQ Concrete 358 Modifieds Rick Laubach of Quakertown scored his 28th career win. The USS Achey Inc., 602 Crate Sportsman ran a pair of features that included the holdover from April 10 and coming home victorious was Zach Steffey of Sinking Springs and Nate Brinker from Macungie. Alex Schoffstall of Llewelyn drove to his second win in three races with the Red White and Blue Autos Inc., Roadrunners and Kevin Fitzpatrick from Branch Dale swept the twin Big Creek Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman mains. Friday night highlighted Laubach's resilience as a veteran driver, particularly after two challenging initial events that did not yield positive results, typical of what has come to be expected of the high-standard performance that has defined his career. "It hasn't been the best for us the first couple races and finally tonight Jake (Smulley) gave us a good track, you could run high and that's all you want to ask for," said Laubach. "This is one of the best facilities around and tonight there was two grooves, and you could run high and you could run low and that was good racing as far as I'm concerned." The initial outset start of the race was jumbled as the field was preparing to complete the first lap and in the process defending champion Louden Reimert was taken out after hitting the wall. When things did get going pole sitter Cody Manmiller dashed out ahead of Mike Burrows, Alan Rudalavage, Laubach and Kevin Olenick. Laubach wasn't wasting time as he blasted to second by lap three. Also on the move was Tim Buckwalter who tagged along with Laubach for third. From there Manmiller was keeping his guard up as best he could against Laubach who was keeping him close in his sights. His hard-fought effort would last until the start of lap seven as Laubach went to his outside and took control from there. Following a lap 10 caution, Buckwalter was able to move up to second. Although Buckwalter was fast just as he has been each race thus far, Laubach maintained his lead, smoothly passing slower traffic without any setbacks and went on to score his first victory of 2026. "I knew he (Buckwalter) has a good motor and when I saw him get into second I just had to beat him into the corners and just try to race and that's real racing right there and you have to have a track to do it and he (Smulley) gave it to us," said Laubach. "I'll be honest I didn't do a lot to this car, and I really didn't even scale it. I put it on the ground this afternoon and said it looks good and I told my wife I'm going to mow the grass." Not to be overshadowed by the two front runners, third place finisher Logan Watt also turned in a remarkable drive. Watt pitted following the lap one incident for a flat tire but once returning he continued to pass cars at will en route to his best run to date. Likewise, Brandon Edgar put his car through the paces in taking a solid fourth while Mike Lisowski rounded out the top five. In the make-up 602 Crate Sportsman feature Steve Hughes took the reins at the front and was having a time dueling with Jimmy Leiby. Several restarts over the first seven laps had been called back due to the front pair jumping too soon and officials felt it was then necessary to set both drivers back one row. That would put Steffey into the lead and it was clear he was not about to give it up. His car was very quick and although Nate Brinker had hustled up to second and was within reach, Steffey never wavered and held on for his first career win at Big Diamond. The nightcap saw Ryan Conrad jump to the early lead with Leiby once again the runner-up pursuer. Leiby would then make good on a lap sox restart to take over the top spot. Brinker slipped into second and when he did he began to put plenty of pressure on the leader. Brinker's persistence paid off following a lap 11 restart in which he used the outside lane to get by Leiby and move to the lead and there would be no looking back from there. As a result of his second place tallies in both features Brinker was the recipient of a free American Racer tire for having the best overall finish. Second place finisher Matt Martino had a very good run and pushed hard to try and catch Brinker and then there was that of Ryan Graver who's third place score came while blasting the outside line and had time run out before he could go any further. Alex Schoffstall overtook Mike Reichert after halfway through and easily secured his second win of the season and 39th overall in the Roadrunners feature. Reichert as well as early leader Jim Kost stayed second and third to the finish respectively. The ruling in the Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman division is win three times and you must move up to the regular Crate class and for Kevin Fitzpatrick it was easy as 1-2-3, three straight races and three straight wins. The first feature was the make-up from the previous week, and Fitzpatrick made a daring last lap pass over race-long leader Mason Harakel. The in the regularly scheduled main he needed only three laps to grab the lead from Josh Metzger and from there on it was smooth sailing. 358 Modified finish (25 laps): 1. Rick Laubach, 2. - Alex Yankoswki pockets $10,000 after winning the Fritz Roehrig Memorial Money in the Mountains at Big Diamond Speedway
(Minersville, PA 4-10-26) Whenever the opportunity presents itself, Alex Yankowski of Covington Township always tries to come back to Big Diamond Speedway, a track that played a big part as the springboard to his career where he is now a top touring driver with dirt Modifieds across the Northeast. Yankowski did return to the 3/8-mile oval for last week's season opener Thaw Brawl where he showed respectable speed in charging his way up to a top-5 finish from a mid-pack start. However, on Friday night even bigger rewards came his way as he collected a cool $10,000 in taking the annual Fritz Roehrig Memorial Money in the Mountains on DBR Industrial Services Night. And, although the race ended early, with the checkered flag waving 13 laps before the scheduled 50-lap finish because a rainstorm moved through the region, it was clear that Yankowski was the driver to beat. Despite the shortened distance, his performance left little doubt that he had the fastest car on the track and was in control throughout the event. "This place has always been special to me and I kind of learned to race here in the beginning of my Sportsman Modified days and it was special too because my grandfather would come here then," said Yankowski. "I feel like here and Five Mile Point is where I cut my teeth, but also got my butt kicked a lot and tonight leaving here with this win feels very good." By luck of the draw Yankowski pulled the pole position and then quickly went to work from there in setting the early pace ahead of Anthony Perrego. Kevin Beach Jr., Brett Kressley and Tim Buckwalter ran close behind that pair. As the race went on Yankowski continued to keep a well enough distance over Perrego and was also negotiating his way around lapped traffic with ease. Perrego's night would come to an unanticipated end on lap 34 when he came to a halt after suffering a left rear flat which also prompted a caution. When the field reset for the restart Kressley was second to Yankowski with Buckwalter and Louden Reimert next in line. As the green waved to resume the action Buckwalter then shot by Kressley for the runner-up spot. However, Yankoski was still able to maintain a few car lengths distance and unfortunately it will not be known if Buckwalter would have had anything for the leader as the rain came three laps later and prematurely ended the night. "The track was really tricky at times and then the cautions just fell the right way for me that I was able to run my race," reflected Yankowski. It was the first time winning at Big Diamond since scoring the Coalcracker victory in 2021. "Rick Stankowicz gave us a really good car tonight and he got a really big check to take back to Reading. It's always good to come down here a couple of times a year, see all these fans and grab some of these big money shows," said Yankowski. "The right Panhard bar is such a different deal than what I'm used to. We run about 86 times a year and maybe five of those are with the right side Panhard bar which is a little bit different package, but Kevin Bates does such a great job of just adapting to no matter what racecar we're running, and our SY/Murray Performance Engine was really stout tonight too and I'm really proud of our engine shop," he continued. "It's been different for us to try and catch up, and you have guys here like Duane Howard and Louden Reimert, the Watt's and Timmy Buckwalter and others who are really good here and when you get a package that they run all year long and we only come down a few times, we have to think a little bit more but it's fun and I enjoy it and it's something different and not just a cookie-cutter deal." In the Roadrunner feature Mike Reichert of New Ringold put his years of experience to the test after a constant race-long battle against the Bassininsky brothers Jared and Joe who made the veteran earn every bit of his win. At the outset Jared Bassinisky took to the lead but would have Joe Bassinisky closely in his shadow while Reichert hovered in third. By lap seven both would set sail past Jared Bassinisky. Reichert successfully utilized the inside lane to maintain pace with Joe Bassinisky, subsequently taking the lead with eight laps remaining. Getting the lead was one thing but staying there was no easy task as he would be forced the rest of the way to fend off the Bassininsky boys. Joe lost his shot when he spun in turn four with two laps remaining attempting to get underneath Reichert. Jared then hounded him to the checkers from there. For Reichert it would be his 19th class win in a career that spans over three decades. The postponed 602 Crate Sportsman and Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman features will be added on to the upcoming April 17 program. 358 Modified finish (50 laps): 1. Alex Yankowski, 2. Tim Buckwalter, 3. - Mike Lisowski claims Big Diamond Speedway season opening "Thaw Brawl"
(Minersville, Pa. 4-3-26) Big Diamond Speedway opened up its 54th season of "Racing in God's Country" as the action officially got underway Friday evening with the "Thaw Brawl" which saw a nicely filled pit area and a packed grandstand of race hungry fans in attendance. And, for those ardent fans of the popular Schuylkill County dirt oval the anticipation was worth the off-season wait as all classes displayed some intense and blazing competition. Heading up the list of winners was local favorite Mike Lisowski of Minersville who took home the $4054 winner's check in the 25-lap BQ Concrete 358 Modified feature. For the second straight year Colin Cox of Perkasie scored the victory in the USS Achey Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman. In the Red White and Blue Autos Inc. Roadrunners defending champion Alex Schoffstall of Llewelyn snagged a close verdict and scoring a career first win in the Big Creek Concrete Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman was Branch Dale's Kevin Fitzpatrick. By luck of the draw the starting grid for the Modified feature placed Ryan Watt and Lisowski on the front row and at the drop of Shawn Maulhall's race commencing green it would be Watt blasting into the early lead with Lisowski in tow. It didn't take long to get into a quick rhythm either as the first 13 laps were reeled off caution free and during that span Watt was setting a torrid pace but all the while he was having to fend off a hard charging Lisowski who repeatedly tried to find an opening to get by. Watt, though, stayed vigilant in keeping his lead despite the ongoing effort of Lisowski. For Lisowski, the moment of opportunity finally arrived in the form of a caution. With 13 laps in the books the yellow waved for Dom Buffalino who stopped in Turn 2 with a right rear flat. On the ensuing restart Lisowski was able to out-maneuver Watt and thrust his way to the top spot. And once in front there would be no looking back as he continued to keep steady and would have no worries either as he kept a safe enough distance from the pack en route to the very popular win. "Without a restart I wasn't sure I could have gotten around him (Watt). The track was so fast, and Ryan was so savvy and so good and he's always hard to get around in clean air like that," said Lisowski. "Drawing good certainly helped and we weren't very good after the heat race and we went to work on the car, and it made a big difference. We put a new shock package on this car, and it was really good tonight." As Lisowski was preserving the lead, behind him was plenty of moving and shaking. Not long after Watt surrendered the lead he was soon facing off against the likes of Jared Umbenauer and reigning division champ Louden Reimert. That trio battled close for several laps before Umbenhauer and Reimert both got by Watt. Umbenhauer took control of second and although he was within reach of Lisowski, he could not get close enough to challenge and settled for a solid runner-up. For Reimert it was much of the same while tagging closely behind Umbenhauer. Watt took fourth while Alex Yankoski rounded out the top five. In the 602 Crate Sportsman feature Christopher Buffalino drew the pole position and with that wasted little time in taking charge of the field once the action got underway. Buffalino continued to look solid too, until a caution with seven laps to go would see Cox line up alongside him and on the restart he vaulted past him and into the lead where he would stay for the remainder of the race. The win netted him $1054. Ryan Graver did a great job of steering through traffic and after an intense battle with Brennan Chapman he slotted his way into second place over the waning laps but would not be able to advance from there as Cox had him and everyone else covered. By taking the win in the Roadrunner feature, Alex Schoffstall continues to define his career as one of the premier chauffeurs of Big Diamond Speedway and not only with the popular full-fender division but overall, among all drivers. His victory upped his all-time class leading wins to 38. Taking the lead on lap two of the 20-lap contest Schoffstall was up on the wheel lap after lap as he had relentless opposition bearing down on him from Mike Reichert, Terry Kramer and Joe Bassinisky. Regardless of the onslaught Schoffstall never wavered. Then in a thrilling last lap fight to the finish Bassininsky stepped up and made a valiant effort to squeeze inside of Schoffstall but his hard fought effort came up a half car length short. In the Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman main there's no doubt that April 3, 2026, will forever be etched in the mind of Kevin Fitzpatririck as he not only earned his career first win but added also to the family legacy of winners at the speedway. Fitzpatrick zipped by early leader Payton Renninger at the completion of lap two and remained steadfast the remaining distance. Keeping close tabs was second place finisher Devin Whitmoyer, who, like Fitzpatrick, is part of a strong racing heritage and displayed outstanding skills for his first time out. 358 Modified finish (25 laps): 1.
