- Pierce Makes History in 43rd Sunoco North/South 100 at Florence
WALTON, KENTUCKY (August 9, 2025) - Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Illinois, moved from the 14th starting spot to win the 43rd Annual Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 presented by Lucas Oil on Saturday night at Florence Speedway. Pierce earned $75,000 for the victory. In the process, Pierce became the first driver in the history of the event to win three years in a row, as he also became the first driver to win four North/South 100s in his career. Pierce and Jonathan Davenport had a spirited battle for the lead after a lap 52 caution that saw the two competitors get together several times before Pierce was able to pull away. Devin Moran got to second on lap 65 and had a shot at Pierce after a caution came out with eight laps to go, but Pierce was able to get a good restart and drive off for the win. Moran lost the second spot to Ricky Thornton Jr. on lap 98, and then on the final lap, Davenport was able to secure the last Big River Steel Podium spot as he also got Moran. Moran finished fourth, with Zack Dohm rounding out the top five drivers. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 28th time in his career and for the fourth time this season, he earned a hard-fought win after starting on the outside of the seventh row. "I've been in this position before. I was in a bad mood because I didn't want to start that far back; you know, it's a lot harder that way. We were coming through the field, and I was worried about my tires. I was spinning really bad in some sections, but then in others, I was really hooked up. It was tough, and once I got to second, I was trying to win the race. I got the job done. I can't thank my team enough and everyone who helps me out. And thank you to the fans for coming out and watching." Pierce was asked in Victory Lane about his battle with Davenport after the lap-52 caution that saw the two drivers go back and forth for the lead, which also included contact between the two. "It was about halfway through the race, but you want to get the lead as quickly as you can because if the track transitions, you never know what could happen. Last year, here it went to the bottom, and it was really hard to run the top toward the end of the race. So I didn't want to give anyone that opportunity if I could take it. I was planning to take the lead and just hold on for the rest of the race. Sometimes, it's a lot easier to lead late in the race than to run in second, especially with a restart where you're double-file again. Yes, we raced hard—me and JD—and I know he was mad, but it's just hard racing here." Thornton, who got the runner-up spot, took home $25,000 for second and cut Davenport's point lead to five heading to Batesville, Arkansas, next weekend for the Topless 100. "I definitely felt like I was running as hard as I could there, and it just wasn't enough. Bobby's stuff was really good. I could barely see him in the last couple of laps, so we will go back to the drawing board and try to improve. The track was a little different than it usually is here; typically, the curb isn't that big—it's usually against the wall. But this time, it was about a car length off the wall. I feel like we have good speed, though not quite the great speed we had at the start of the year." Davenport, who was aiming for his third North/South 100 victory, led 60 of the 100 laps but finished in third place. "Obviously, he (Pierce) is always right, so I don't know how to throw sliders, and he does. I won't sit here and talk bad about him, because he's really good. We all know the top is going to be very competitive here at Florence, and I was just running my race and keeping my tires under me. I was planning to try and make a run back at him in the last 10 or 15 laps since I knew he was probably going to pass me and be gone, but that's just how this place races. I have a lot of damage, but I still managed to get back to third." The winner's Bobby Pierce Racing, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by Low Voltage Solutions, Churchill Transport, Collins Brothers Towing, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Carnaghi Towing and Repair, Rio Grande Waste Services, Pontiac RV, Steidinger Construction, Toyota of Danville, Ted Brown's Quality Paint and Body Shop, Fast 1 Speed Shop, Leka Tree Service, Floyd's Waste Services, VP Fuels, DuroMax Oil, and Bert by Budda. Completing the top ten were Jason Jameson, Hudson O'Neal, Brandon Overton, Cory Hedgecock, and Nick Hoffman. - Pierce and Moran Score Friday Night Wins at Florence
WALTON, KENTUCKY (August 8, 2025) - Bobby Pierce and Devin Moran each won a feature race during the Friday night session of the 43rd Annual Sunoco North/South 100 presented by Lucas Oil at Florence Speedway, with both drivers earning $6,000 for their victories. Pierce took the lead from Jonathan Davenport in the first 25-lap race on the 15th circuit and maintained it for the win. Davenport finished second, followed by Brandon Overton, Brandon Sheppard, and Ricky Thornton, Jr. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the third time this season and the 27th time in his career, Pierce will attempt to make history Saturday night in the $75,000-to-win crown jewel race, as he tries to become the first driver to win the race, which began in 1984, three years in a row and four times overall - a feat never before achieved in the race's storied history. "It's very tough to lead at this track, especially around these corners. When they come up, you've got so many different lines to run, and JD really likes to run that middle line coming down. It was a great track; it had a bottom, middle, and top. It was tough in lapped traffic, and at one point, they were directly double-file in front of me. I kind of thought JD made the mistake of going low instead of high, but he got underneath those guys, and we almost went 4-wide. That's not a place you want to be, so I had to back out of it. The straightaways are so long, there's a lot of time to decide where they're going. You just have to look ahead and see where they're running - before you get to them, you already have that decision in your mind," said the Oakwood, Illinois native. Davenport, the current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series points leader and two-time North/South 100 winner, finished runner-up to Pierce in the first feature. "Obviously I can't see much out of the right side," as he talked about going four-wide in traffic off of turn four on lap 14. "I was coming down through here in the slime, trying to give everybody enough room outside of me. It was pretty wild there for a minute, but congratulations to Bobby. My guys worked today and last night trying to figure out our problem. We still had it in hot laps, and we went and changed one more thing, and that's what fixed it." Overton rounded out the Big River Steel Podium in third in the first feature. "I'm honestly excited. Obviously, we're going to face a tough heat; there are no slouches here, and we'll probably start in the second row. We've had a good car both nights, you know. I was trying not to go too hard at the start, then Bobby passed us, and Daulton (Wilson) passed me, so I had to work my way back up to him. We're okay. I'm excited and looking forward to it." The winner's Bobby Pierce Racing, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by Low Voltage Solutions, Churchill Transport, Collins Brothers Towing, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Carnaghi Towing, Pontiac RV, Rio Grande Waste Services, Toyota of Danville, VP Fuels, Ted Brown's Quality Paint and Body Shop, Fast 1 Speed Shop, Leka Tree Service, Floyd's Waste Systems, DuroMax Racing Oil, and Bert by Budda. Completing the top ten in the first feature were Zack Dohm, Michael Chilton, Dustin Nobbe, Max Blair, and Josh Rice. In the second 25-lap race to finish the night, Mike Marlar was in control from the start until contact from a car he was trying to lap ended his night on lap 15. Moran then inherited the lead and kept the field paced through several cautions in the final 10 laps to take the victory. Hudson O'Neal finished second, with Justin Rattliff rounding out the Big River Steel Podium in third during the second feature. Garrett Alberson was fourth, and Carson Ferguson completed the top five drivers. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the seventh time this year and the 22nd time in his racing career, Moran will be vying for his first North/South 100 victory on Saturday night. "I definitely thought the checkered flag was ever going to come out. Unfortunately, when the one caution that got us to the lead happened, it was unfortunate for Mikey (Marlar). I really don't think we had anything for him. Racing just happens like that sometimes when you try to squeeze in there by a lapped car, and apparently that car didn't know he was there. I really didn't know where to be on the restarts. I saw the 12 car (Jameson) in second on the top, and you never know where Hudson is going to be because his car has been really good on the bottom, and he's won races here on the top. It was a nail-biter. I felt like it was never going to end, and when you are running the top, it can be very treacherous. I'm glad it's over," said the driver from Dresden, Ohio native. O'Neal, who started sixth, fought off a battle with James Rattliff and teammates Jason Jameson and Justin Rattliff to finish second. "We needed to be careful at the right moments, so we had a couple of spots where the caution came out, and we had to go back to second. That's just part of it, and in these short 25-lap races, you've got to take advantage of every opportunity. I fell back to fifth and thought, man, I don't know if I can catch up in such a short time, but it ended up working out." Rattliff, a former Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Rookie of the Year, rounded out the Big River Steel Podium in third place. "It's really cool to be up here. I'd like to dedicate this to Jeff Gullett, and I'm glad we could get a good run. I could hit the bottom about every other lap, and then they'd just sail on top, and I was just like I needed to hit my marks. I was just down there trying to be as consistent as I could be," said the Campbellsville, Kentucky native who has competed in just a handful of races over the past few seasons. The winner's Double Down Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Big River Steel, Lazydays RV, C&W Trucking, Hazen Services, BOMAG, Millwood Plumbing, Pee Wee's Wrecker Service, CarSourceAuto, Anthony's Pizza, Refuel Wellness, McHugh Chrysler Dodge, Jeep and Ram, Eibach Sprints, VP Fuels, Smoky Mountain Speedway, Haulin' Haskell's, Phillips CPA, and Red Oak Pub. - Alberson and Wilson Earn Thursday Night Prelim Wins at Florence
WALTON, KENTUCKY (August 7, 2025) - Garrett Alberson and Daulton Wilson both started from the third position and went on to win their 25-lap main events on Thursday night at Florence Speedway, kicking off the Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 presented by Lucas Oil weekend. In the $6,000-to-win opener, Alberson passed race leader Devin Moran on the 21st lap after Moran had led the first 20 laps of the race. Mike Marlar, who finished third and rounded out the Big River Steel Podium, ran in second until Alberson got by him on lap 14. Cory Hedgecock finished fourth, with Hudson O'Neal rounding out the top five drivers. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the second time in 2025 and for the third time in his career, the Las Cruces, New Mexico native won a hard-fought battle with Moran and Marlar for the win. "I was a little scared after the early incident in turn one. I didn't know if the whole left front was knocked out or not. I wonder if that kind of got me all riled up, and I just thought, I'm going to go for it. Devin was building a lot of speed up high, but he started kind of falling into the exit a little, and I could just run right through the crumbs and make up a lot of time." Moran, who was looking for his 7th series win of the season, came home in second after leading the first 20 laps of the race. Moran was coming off a $20,000 victory at Florence in June. "Our car was really good, and then Garrett got by me. We had a great race among the top three. The track was really good tonight; you could run anywhere on it. We'll just work on it some more for tomorrow night and see if we can close the deal and take one spot better." Moran finished 1.200 seconds behind Alberson at the finish. Marlar was in the thick of things the whole race, finishing a close third. "We had a good car all night. I could run with Devin through the middle and bottom, and then Garrett got in there. We had a really good race for the lead. It's a great start to the weekend for us."" The winner's Roberts Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Low Voltage Solutions, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Sunoco Race Fuels, Bilstein Shocks, Titan Racing Products, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Bill's Sport Shop, Done Right TV, Dickie's Doghouse, Cheap Cars, Fertilizer Equipment Specialist, Roemer Machine, Denago Powersports, and Mitchell Ranch. Completing the top ten were Jimmy Owens, Max Blair, Donald McIntosh, Carson Ferguson, and Tripp Gerrald. In the nightcap, Wilson had to outrun the top three-ranked drivers in the nation to earn his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win of the season. He led the final 23 laps after getting by Jonathan Davenport early in a lead-swapping battle. Brandon Overton made a late-race charge after a caution flag with two laps to go to take the runner-up spot, with three-time and defending North/South 100 winner Bobby Pierce rounding out the Big River Steel Podium in third. Brandon Sheppard finished fourth, and Ricky Thornton Jr. completed the top drivers. Wilson is in Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the first time since winning the final East Bay Winternationals race in February of 2024. "Man, you know we haven't been bad, nothing's gone our way. My awesome car owner said, man, it's time to come home and take a break, go see your family, just re-group, and that's what we did. We all went home, took a minute to clear our heads, then we came back, focused, and went to work. We had a really good car last week and a really good car tonight. I thought I had given it away down there on that cushion, but then I thought I was either going to win or wreck." Overton, who came out of nowhere before the only caution of the race with 23 laps scored, dived to the inside of the track in the final two laps, coming up just 0.212 seconds short at the finish line. "When we fired off, I didn't feel great, but I just calmed down and did what I always do—slow down and drive this thing. I just sat there, ran around, and got into a good rhythm where I could hit the bottom and then squirt up through there. When the caution came out, I didn't think I was that close; I thought JD was leading and was gone. I didn't know Daulton was leading, but congratulations to Daulton. It's a good start to the weekend for us." Pierce, who is attempting to become the first driver in the 43-year history of the race to win three consecutive North/South 100s on Saturday night, ran as high as second, briefly took the lead from Wilson, but officially never led a lap as he finished in third. "I don't know; I didn't need the caution because we probably would have finished second. Congrats to Daulton on the win, so we were third tonight. We'll try to get a better race car tomorrow night. I need to get the thing in the ground a little bit; I am just kind of wheel-spinning." The winner's JRR Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing and sponsored by Grant Lee Farms, MGL Auto Sales, The Auto Outlet, Innovative Community Solutions, Keltner Contracting, JRR Motor Sales, B&L Construction, Cheap Chevrolet, VP Fuels, and New Point Lighting and Design. Completing the top ten were Zack Dohm, Justin Rattliff, Chris Ferguson, Josh Rice, and Dustin Nobbe.
