Atomic Speedway Dirt Track News
- Danny Dietrich scores second victory of Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires at Limaland Motorsports Park
LIMA, Ohio (June 17, 2022) - For the second time this week, "Double-D" Danny Dietrich is a Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 main event winner, scoring round eight of Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio. Leading every circuit of the 25-lap program, Dietrich was relatively untouchable, utilizing the pole position to jump ahead before sailing off for a $6,000 payday. The Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, native and ace of the Gary Kauffman Racing/Weikert's Livestock/Sweeney Cars/No. 48 sprint car is now a 17-time winner with America's Series, bumping his individual track list to 13. "Hats off to everyone here tonight, especially the fans for hanging tough while the Series figured some things out," Danny Dietrich expressed regarding the dustier than usual track conditions during the preliminary segment of the program. "Regardless, I can't thank my team enough for their hard work this week. We love coming to Ohio Speedweek. The fans out here have done nothing but treat me like one of their own and I'm incredibly thankful for it. We have a big one tomorrow night at Portsmouth, so our plan is to head back home to Pennsylvania with some more hardware." Dietrich's only real distraction during Lima's 25-lapper was a run-in with traffic in the closing circuits, forced to check up while slower cars battled two and three wide. Parker Price-Miller, who pressured Dietrich late while maneuvering through traffic, finished second on the Lima quarter-mile, followed by Brent Marks, Tyler Courtney, and Cap Henry. The All Star Circuit of Champions will conclude the 40th edition of Ohio Sprint Speedweek with Portsmouth Raceway Park's highly sought after Dean Knittel Memorial on Saturday, June 18. Awarding a top prize of $20,554, the Dean Knittel Memorial is not only the highest paying program on the Speedweek schedule, but it's one of the highest paying programs on the entire All Star slate, trumped only by Lernerville's $25,000-to-win Silver Cup, I-70 Speedway's $26,000-to-win Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race, Port Royal Speedway's $29,000-to-win Bob Weikert Memorial, and Port Royal Speedway's $55,000-to-win Tuscarora 50. For those who can not witness the All Star Circuit of Champions live and in person, FloRacing.com, the official media partner and broadcast provider of the All Stars, has you covered. - Tyler Courtney picks up Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires round seven victory at Waynesfield Raceway Park
WAYNESFIELD, Ohio (June 16, 2022) - Defending Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 champion, Tyler Courtney, earned his way back to victory lane on Thursday night, earning top honors in round seven of Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires at Waynesfield Raceway Park. The victory, Sunshine's fourth of the season against the traveling All Stars, also bumping his career total to 12, was accomplished from the front row, utilizing the pole position by way of dash finish to ultimately lead every circuit of the 30-lap Rick Ferkel Classic. Despite being basically untouchable in A-Main action, Courtney, who is currently third in the Ohio Sprint Speedweek championship standings, did face some challenges, most of which in the form of lapped traffic. In fact, the final five circuits were packed to the brim with traffic, ultimately allowing Buch Motorsports' Justin Peck to power himself within a few car lengths of the Clauson Marshall Racing No. 7BC. Peck's last-ditch effort would fail, allowing Courtney to secure his first-ever Speedweek victory. "Definitely some weight lifted off our shoulders here tonight. It's been a trying last few months for this NOS Energy team, but my guys haven't given up and I'm really proud of their efforts," Tyler Courtney said in victory lane. "This win feels a lot more special than some other ones, only because of the situation we've had to overcome to get here. The car was so good from start to finish and I owe that all to my guys." Myerstown, Pennsylvania's Brent Marks finished just behind Peck in third, followed by Hunter Schuerenberg and Bill Balog. Peck remains in control of the Ohio Sprint Speedweek standings, holding down a 40-point margin over Republic, Ohio's Cap Henry. Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires will continue with a $6,000 program at Limaland Motorsports Park on Friday, June 17. The All Star Circuit of Champions will conclude the 40th edition of Ohio Sprint Speedweek with Portsmouth Raceway Park's highly sought after Dean Knittel Memorial on Saturday, June 18. - Justin Peck Speedweek winner at Atomic
Justin Peck picked up his second Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions Ohio Speedweek win Wednesday night at Atomic Speedway.
- Christopher Bell wires field in night five of Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires at Sharon Speedway
HARTFORD, Ohio (June 14, 2022) - Norman, Oklahoma's Christopher Bell was the man to beat in Tuesday night's Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires visit to Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, eventually leading all 30 circuits of round five to pick up his first Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 main event victory of the season, nailing down a $6,000 payday in the process. Certainly no stranger to victory lane at Sharon Speedway, the win bumps his career All Star total to three at the northeast Ohio speed plant, simultaneously raising his career total to seven since attaining his first at Kokomo Speedway in 2016. Although ultimately unbeatable from the pole position, Bell's path to All Star victory lane did not come without distractions, forced to withstand multiple waves of traffic, as well as late race pressure from Buch Motorsports' Justin Peck, who did his best to dive beneath the Swindell Speedlab/CircleBDiecast.com/No. 39 sprint car in the final corner. Despite his last-ditch effort, Peck would cross under the final checkers in the runner-up spot, followed by local hotshot and third-generation ace, Sye Lynch, Fremont speedway winner, Zeb Wise, and Buddy Kofoid. "Kevin (Swindell) had this dialed in," stated Bell after his Sharon win. "I knew we had been getting better and better each race. I felt really good yesterday and equally as good today. I can't thank Kevin and Jordan enough for the opportunity to drive their race car. They work really hard at this. Tonight the track was completely different than the last two wins (here)- it was treacherous. The cushion got really tall along the fence in (turns) one and two and (turns) three and four. I tried to be smart, run my race, and run consistent laps." The recently invaded Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, topped by Lockbourne's Cole Duncan, will host a $6,000-to-win Ohio Sprint Speedweek stop on Wednesday, June 15, followed by $6,000 programs at Waynesfield Raceway Park on Thursday, June 16, and Limaland Motorsports Park on Friday, June 17. The All Star Circuit of Champions will conclude the 40th edition of Ohio Sprint Speedweek with Portsmouth Raceway Park's highly sought after Dean Knittel Memorial on Saturday, June 18. - Justin Peck takes Duffy Smith Memorial at Wayne County Speedway in night four of Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires
ORRVILLE, Ohio (June 13, 2022) - Persistence and patience certainly paid off for Monrovia, Indiana's Justin Peck on Monday night at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, ultimately cashing in for a $6,000 payday in night four of Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires. Peck, now a three-time winner with the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 in 2022, took command of the 25-lap Duffy Smith Memorial program on lap 15, utilizing a slider through turns one and two to put race-long leader, Cory Eliason, in his rearview mirror. It took not only one, but three tries for Peck to take control over the Rudeen Racing No. 26 entry, first attempting a slider on lap 13, then again on lap 14. Needless to say, Peck's persistence eventually worked in his favor. "I feel like we've always been fast at Wayne County, just could never get the job done," an elated Justin Peck said after his Wayne County victory. "I think I've finished in every position but first, so this is pretty cool. I was praying that the motor would hold because it was starting to get pretty warm. Luckily, it all worked out. I can't say enough about these Buch Motorsports guys. They bust their tails and it's paying off." Once in control, it was smooth sailing for the ace of the Buch Motorsports/Coastal Race Parts No. 13 entry, even withstanding a last-ditch effort by Cale Thomas, who showed Peck his nose after a lap 21 restart. "I knew the top was the way to go down in one and two. I saw Cale's (Thomas) nose there below me, but I knew if I could keep my momentum on the top that he wasn't going to drive by, or if he did slide me, I would be able to turn back underneath," Peck added. "I figured my safe bet from that point forward was to just rip the top and keep my wing speed. Cale usually gets around this place pretty good." Thomas held on to finish second, followed by current All Star points leader, Tyler Courtney, round three winner, Zeb Wise, and Rudeen Racing's Cory Eliason. Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires will move further east and invade Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, on Tuesday, June 14. - Zeb Wise leads all 30 at Fremont to win round three of Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires
FREMONT, Ohio (June 12, 2022) - For the second time in just five Series starts, Angola, Indiana's Zeb Wise is a Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 main event winner, doing so during night three of Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires at Fremont Speedway. Wise, earning $6,000 for his Chuck and Shirley Kear Classic triumph, started from the outside-pole position and never looked back, eventually leading all 30 circuits around "The Track That Action Built" while outrunning current Speedweek points leader, Cap Henry. "Since joining the All Stars, this is a track that's always treated me really well. It feels good to be up here standing in front of all of these great fans...there are so many people here," Zeb Wise explained, driver of the Wise-Priddy Racing/Sundollar Restoration/QuikPits/No. 10 sprint car. "My car was so good tonight. Hats off to everyone back there in the pit area...Wayne, Derrick, Connor, Dad...they worked their butts off." The main event's lone caution on lap seven, a red flag situation for Kyle Reinhardt who was third at the time of his easy tip over, resulted in Zeb's only momentum break, which, inevitably, led to a long stretch of traffic that lasted the entire back half of the 30-lap contest. Despite his run in with slower cars, Zeb's preferred line around the top of the speedway kept his nose clean, sealing the deal in the final five circuits by keeping a pair of lappers between himself and Henry. Including Fremont, Wise is now a four-time All Star winner over the course of his young career, two of which accomplished right down the road at Attica Raceway Park. "I'm not sure how close Henry was there at the end. Traffic got pretty wild and I couldn't go where I wanted," Wise continued. "Lucky for me, my car was good enough that I could go wherever I wanted. I wasn't sure I had the car to win, and I was a little worried there after the dash. I thought the '4' car was the car to beat, but we were able to come out on top." In traditional back-to-back fashion, Ohio Sprint Speedweek will move east and invade Wayne County Speedway and Sharon Speedway on Monday and Tuesday, June 13-14, respectively. The northeast Ohio venues, each awarding $6,000 during Speedweek action, hosted All Star competition on one occasion already in 2022. "Hunter Percent" Hunter Schuerenberg was the victor at Wayne County with Lane Racing's Cap Henry stealing the show at Sharon, utilizing a last corner pass to secure the Buckeye Cup title over Myerstown, Pennsylvania's Brent Marks. - Parker Price-Miller collects $10,000 in Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires visit to Fremont Speedway
FREMONT, Ohio (July 11, 2022) - Forced to outduel three-time Fremont Speedway track champion and local standout, Craig Mintz, in a green-white-checkered conclusion, Kokomo, Indiana's Parker Price-Miller finally re-etched his name in the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 history books, securing a $10,000 payday in the process by winning night two of Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires at Fremont Speedway. Ultimately bumping his career All Star victory total to two, his first occurring at Wayne County Speedway in 2015, Price-Miller commenced his winning march from the inside of row two, battling early with Clauson Marshall Racing's Tyler Courtney before working by Jay Kiser Racing's Chris Andrews for second on lap 22. Mintz, who started from the outside-pole, took command from Andrews just one lap prior, powering around the Sandusky native with a slingshot move through turns three and four. By lap 26, Price-Miller was all over Mintz for the race lead, pressuring the familiar No. 09 until he was able to make a move the following circuit. Utilizing the bottom of turns one and two, Price-Miller showed Mintz his nose at the entrance of turn one, eventually powering right by the Gibsonburg, Ohio, native to take command down the backstretch. The only challenge Price-Miller faced from that point forward was a caution on the final circuit, which set up the aforementioned green-white-checkered finish; he prevailed. Craig Mintz held on to finish second, followed by Tyler Courtney, Cap Henry, who is now in charge of the Ohio Sprint Speedweek standings, and All Star rookie contender, Chris Windom. "Seven years is too long, I can tell you that," Price-Miller said in Fremont Speedway victory lane, driver of the Sam McGhee Motorsports/Mike McGhee and Associates/No. 11 sprint car. "My first-ever 410 win was here in 2015 with Rick Ferkel, and we were able to get my very first All Star win at Wayne County the next week. I'm just so glad to be back here. "I was pretty nervous during that last restart," Price-Miller added. "I just felt like I was on ice. I pulled the wing back and tried to make as much wing speed as I could. I'm really proud of this win...I stayed patient and kept committed to the bottom. I didn't let anything bother me and kept trucking." Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires will continue with another round at Fremont Speedway on Sunday, June 12. The Chuck and Shirley Kear Classic will headline action at "The Track That Action Built" awarding a $6,000 top prize. - Danny Dietrich claims one for PA Posse in Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires opener at Attica Raceway Park
ATTICA, Ohio (June 10, 2022) - Danny Dietrich's decision to join the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 for another edition of Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires turned out to be the right move, eventually opening Speedweek competition with a $6,000 victory in Attica Raceway Park's Bert and Brigitte Emick Classic on Friday, June 10. The triumph, Dietrich's first All Star win of the season and the 16th of his career, occurred in fantastic fashion, opening the evening with heat race and dash victories, moving on to lead all 35 circuits of the All Star A-Main. Dietrich's only real challenge transpired on lap 16 when the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, native slipped off the backstretch in traffic forcing the 2021 Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek champion to take evasive action. Despite the hiccup, which allowed second place running Bill Balog to close in on the leader, Dietrich pulled through. Even a few early race slide job attempts by Cory Eliason proved no match for Dietrich, powering ahead of the slide by the exit of turn two. "I had to pitch it sideways to get back on the track," an elated Danny Dietrich said about his hiccup on lap 16. "I was just glad to save it. I really didn't have to move off the top tonight. I felt OK on the bottom of one and two, but I didn't feel as well as I did on the top, especially in clean air. But hats off to this entire team. Everyone has been busting their butts. We have a wild month ahead of us. We could be racing for points back home, but we wanted to come out here and race Speedweek with you guys." Cautions on laps six, nine, 23, and 32 helped rid the speedway of any chaos, basically clearing the potential for any pressure from those behind him. Dietrich's final restart on lap 32, which was executed perfectly by the ace of the Gary Kauffman Racing, Weikert's Livestock, Sandoe's Fruit Market, Pace Performance, Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts, Drop Of Ink Tattoo, Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, No. 48 sprint car, sealed his $6,000 deal. "I'm glad the cautions fell when they did," Dietrich continued. "It was getting pretty tough. All we can do now is regroup and try to do this tomorrow at Fremont." Adding to the stat chart, the All Star Attica triumph bumps Dietrich's overall season win total to seven, five of which accomplished at the "Fabulous" Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pennsylvania. Bill Balog held on to finish second at Attica Raceway Park to open his Speedweek campaign, followed by Buch Motorsports' Justin Peck, Lane Racing's Cap Henry, and a hard-charging Zeb Wise, who advanced 18 positions from 23rd, securing his spot through the evening's B-Main. Ohio Sprint Speedweek will continue with a doubleheader at the "Track That Action Built," Fremont Speedway on Saturday and Sunday, June 11-12. Awarding a combined $16,000, Saturday's visit will award a $10,000 share, with Sunday's Chuck and Shirley Kear Classic awarding $6,000. Including the Speedweek double, the traveling All Stars will visit Fremont on four occasions in 2022 with the second pair concluding the 2022 schedule on October 7-8. - Cole Duncan utilizes last lap pass to score George Fisher Memorial at Atomic for $15,000
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (June 4, 2022) - The last lap pays the most, and Lockbourne, Ohio's Cole Duncan took that methodology to heart on Saturday evening at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, utilizing a last lap pass to score the George Fisher Memorial Freedom 40 title worth $15,000. For Duncan, the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 score was his first of the season and seventh overall, now with three total Series victories at the Atomic highbanks. "George built my motors when I started racing, and to win a race in his honor is pretty special," an elated Cole Duncan explained, ace of the Helms Construction/Ohio Heating No. 22 sprint car. "He was such a great guy and he is missed so much. One heck of a mechanic, and an even better guy." In fact, the last lap was the only lap that Duncan led during the entire 40-lap distance, commencing his march to the front from the inside of row three. Kokomo, Indiana's Parker Price-Miller and Waterville, Ohio's Travis Philo were the pace setters for the first 39 circuits with Price-MIller leading the first 22 before Philo took over on lap 23. Price-Miller's hiccup occurred with a slip in turn two, leaving the abrasive groove open for Philo at the exit of the corner. Incidentally, Philo's loss of the lead on 33 was due to the same mistake, ultimately leaving the bottom, abrasive groove open for Price-Miller to slip by. The duo would exchange positions yet again on lap 36 with Philo retaking command, this time due to Price-Miller's near contact with a lapped car at the entrance of turn three. Philo seemed to have the cat in the bag, but a series of cautions due to flat tires on lap 38 kept the race at a standstill. Green lights would eventually return, but only for a circuit, as a stoppage due to tire failure would bring out the yellow yet again. By this time, Duncan had quietly powered his way to second, getting by Hunter Schuerenberg on the fifth lap 38 restart attempt. With an abrasive surface the obvious issue, rather than finish with a traditional green-white-checkered format, the call was made to finish green-checkered. Despite the extra lap out of the question, Duncan persevered, using a slingshot move down the backstretch to power by Philo at the exit of turn four. "I was actually kinda hoping for those cautions," Duncan continued. "I just felt like I had more tire. I really went into conserve mode there about halfway. It was getting hard to get by lapped cars, so I just let the front two or three race. Travis didn't do what I thought he was going to do on the last lap. My only option was to try and keep my left rear in the rubber and drive out around him. It worked out for us tonight." - Zeb Wise scores first Tezos All Star victory of 2022 in exciting fashion at Attica Raceway Park
ATTICA, Ohio (June 3, 2022) - It may have taken Zeb Wise until June to score his first Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 victory of the 2022 season, but to those in attendance at Attica Raceway Park, the victory was well worth the wait, as the youngster out of Angola, Indiana, put fans on their feet Friday night at the home of "Ohio's Finest Racing," outdueling Rudeen Racing's Cory Eliason in all-out slider fest for a $6,000 payday. The victory, the third of Zeb's All Star career and his second at the Attica venue, was accomplished from the pole position, leading the first 17 laps before surrendering the top spot to Eliason. Elbows deep in traffic, the pair commenced their slidejob exchanges on lap 20 beginning with Wise sliding Eliason for the lead at the exit of turn four. Wasting little time, Eliason returned the favor immediately, getting by Wise in the exact same manner on lap 21. Not willing to give up, Wise maintained his momentum and quickly set the stage for another slider, again using the bottom to turn three and four to drive up and in front of Eliason on lap 22. A few circuits later on lap 26, Eliason tried another slider on Wise, but the young Hoosier held tight and kept the No. 26 behind him. From that point forward, it was smooth sailing for the third-year All Star, utilizing a late race red on lap 32 to rid the surface of slower cars and dirty air. Cory Eiason would hold on to finish second, followed by Hunter Schuerenberg, Justin Peck, and Tyler Courtney. "How about that race...that was awesome," Zeb Wise explained. "Man what a race. There in lapped traffic it was so hard to tell where to be. I felt like I was going to slow on the bottom. I tried the top one time and I saw Cory on the bottom. The way the lapped cars were running it was so hard for me to stay behind them but that was the best thing I could have done. Man I can't say enough about these guys. We've kind of had a rough year and struggled a little bit. Wayne, my dad, Conner, Derek...everyone that puts their hearts and souls in this team has got us back where we belong at Attica. Hopefully we can carry this into speedweek...we've got a really good package right now," ON DECK: Celebrating the life and achievements of George Fisher, associated most for his accomplishments as crew chief for Dale Blaney including four All Star Circuit of Champions titles, Atomic Speedway will host the George Fisher Memorial Freedom 40 on Saturday night awarding $15,000-to-win. Like Attica Raceway Park, Atomic Speedway will host the traveling All Stars again during Ohio Sprint Speedweek, holding down the Wednesday, June 15, slot and awarding $6,000. - All Stars ready for Ohio double at Attica and Atomic June 3-4
A mini test session for the upcoming edition of Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires, the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will activate the month of June with an Ohio doubleheader, set to invade Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, on Friday, June 3, followed by an all-out brawl on the highbanks of Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, on Saturday, June 4.
- Anthony Macri sweeps Bob Weikert Memorial weekend with $29,000 finale victory
PORT ROYAL, Pa. (May 29, 2022) - Dillsburg, Pennsylvania's Anthony Macri has been unstoppable at the Port Royal Speedway "Speed Palace" this weekend, continuing his winning ways with a $29,000 payday in the Sunday night Bob Weikert Memorial finale featuring the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1. Officially sweeping the blockbuster doubleheader, Macri started fourth on the 30-lap grid and charged his way to the front by lap 10, powering around All Star Rookie of the Year contender, Chris Windom, with a drive-by move through turns three and four. From that point forward, Macri was basically untouchable, surviving periods of heavy traffic, as well as a caution break on lap 24, and again on lap 26, to secure the monster five-digit payday. Sixth starting Brent Marks, who did his best to apply pressure during each of the caution restarts, drove on to finish second. Marks was followed by local standout, Jeff Halligan, Clauson Marshall Racing's "Sunshine" Tyler Courtney, and Buch Motorsports' Justin Peck. Including his Bob Weikert Memorial weekend sweep, Macri is now a four-time All Star winner in 2022, ultimately bumping his career total to seven with four occurring at the Port Royal "Speed Palace." "This is unreal...I'm speechless," Anthony Macri stated in victory lane, driver of the J&S Classics/C&D Rigging/Valley Supply/No. 39M sprint car. "Brent's not dumb. I knew he was going to catch on to what we were doing on restarts, so I just did my best to change things up a bit and keep him guessing. I'm just...I don't know...this is going to take a little bit to sink in. "I just can't thank this team enough. Everyone works so hard back at the shop. We wouldn't be here without all of our partners. Sandy from J&S Classics is back at home watching and hopefully we made her weekend." The Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will continue their 2022 campaign with an Ohio doubleheader at Attica Raceway Park and Atomic Speedway on Friday and Saturday, June 3-4. The weekend will headline with the George Fisher Memorial Freedom 40 at Atomic worth $15,000-to-win; the visit to Attica on Friday will award $6,000.
