- Logan Seavey Charges To Hard Rock Qualifying Night Victory
Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (January 17, 2025) Making the late race pass for the lead, then having to fend off the ferocious pursuit of Gavin Miller through the closing laps, Logan Seavey delivered for his fourth career Chili Bowl Nationals powered by NOS Energy Drink preliminary night victory during Hard Rock Hotel Casino Tulsa Qualifying Night. "I could still keep up with guys; I just lost a little balance really to be able to maneuver as good as I needed to in traffic, but when I could get against the cushion by myself, I could make a ton of speed, but in the feature, I could finally crawl the bottom, so we're going in the right direction. I still feel like I made a lot of ugly laps there, but fortunately, I happen to make them at the right times and made good laps when I needed them," explained Seavey of the race. Rolling from seventh at the start, Seavey was on the podium in eight laps. Chasing Ryan Timms and Gavin Miller, the fight for the lead got hot on Lap 18 as Gavin Miller tried to shoot under Timms into the third turn. Across the nose of the No. 97, Miller would make contact with Timms. Who spun to a stop. On the contact, Miller said, "Trying to cross back on Logan, Ryan went to the bottom, and I didn't think he was going slow up that much. I locked up the brakes, but was already too far, and hooked his bumper, and I apologized to him." Getting momentum, Seavey leaned into the cushion and began closing on Miller. Around to Lap 26, a misstep on the cushion by Miller put Seavey in the hunt, with a move for the lead coming the next time around. Glued to the back bumper of the No. 39 through the final four laps, Seavey slid himself through both ends of the Tulsa Expo Raceway to fend Miller by 0.221-seconds. Seavey into his seventh Chili Bowl A-Feature, Miller's runner-up finish locks him into his first. Tyler Courtney ran 12th to third, with Daryn Pittman and Daryn Pittman completing the top five. Five preliminary nights yielded 392 entries officially received after cancelations, with 377 drawing in for competition. Each night saw a different car owner in victory lane. The last time was 2023, during Logan's first Chili Bowl victory, with the first two nights seeing new car owners in victory lane, followed by KKM, Thorson, and Swindell. That same pattern has played out in 2025, with Silva and Wood each earning their first wins as car owners on Monday and Tuesday. Saturday, January 18, opens at 8:00 A.M. with cars on track at 9:00 A.M. (CT). The features are slated to start with the double P-Mains. The 39th annual Chili Bowl Nationals powered by NOS Energy Drink takes place January 13-18, 2025, under the giant roof of the SageNet Center in Tulsa, Okla. Fans unable to attend the Chili Bowl Nationals can watch every lap live at http://www.floracing.com. General Admission tickets are sold at the event and include access to the Pits. - Tanner Thorson Cooks Up A Thriller On Hasty Bake Qualifying Night
Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (January 16, 2025) Another fight to the finish during the 39th annual Chili Bowl Nationals powered by NOS Energy Drink, Thursday's Hasty Bake Qualifying Night A-Feature came down to the final lap with Tanner Thorson holding off Ryan Bernal and Christopher Bell for the win. On the final restart, Thorson said, "That yellow came out, and I'm like [Christopher] Bell is the last person I want behind me on a restart, so I'm looking for my guys to tell me kind of where to go, and I didn't know, and I about gave it away when I thought Bell as to my inside, and it's [Ryan] Bernal, and I'm like holy crap, we're about to get our doors blown off, so it was tricky." Thorson's third career preliminary night victory in 12 starts since 2014, the fight for the win began with Karter Sarff, who drove around Thorson to lead the third and fourth laps. Tight into the cushion on a Lap 5 restart, that allowed Thorson to retake the point. Battling next with Christopher Bell, the pair set sights on the leader, with Bell able to roll to the point on Lap 10. Caution with nine to go, Bell and Thorson began trading top and bottom at opposite ends of the Tulsa Expo Raceway, with Thorson settling in the cushion to rocket back to the lead on Lap 25 before the caution waved. Caution at the white flag, the stage was set for a green, white, checkered showdown with the battle going three deep as Ryan Bernal, who was nearly collected in the crash that caused the final restart, sticking the bottom to take the race three wide through the final lap. Burying the right rear into the cushion, Thorson held off the challenge, with Bernal nipping the final transfer into Saturday's A-Feature at the line by 0.068-seconds. Matt Westfall moved eight to fourth with Jacob Denney rolling 11th to fifth. Thursday's Hasty Bake Qualifying Night had 79 drivers on hand, bringing the running competing entry total to 292 with another 86 slated for Friday night. The Flip Count worked its way to 39 with all drivers okay. Racing resumes Friday, January 17, 2025, with Hard Rock Hotel Casino of Tulsa Qualifying Night getting underway with Hot Laps at 4:00 P.M. followed by racing at 5:00 P.M. (CT). - Emerson Axsom Strikes During Wednesday's York Plumbing Qualifying Night
Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (January 15, 2025) The second first-time winner in as many nights at the 39th annual Chili Bowl Nationals powered by NOS Energy Drink, Indiana's Emerson Axsom grabbed the lead on Lap 4 and never gave it back en-route to victory during Wednesday's York Plumbing Qualifying Night. The 55th driver to win a Chili Bowl preliminary A-Feature, Axsom, in his fifth preliminary A-Feature start, was asked how it felt to win, "I've been trying a long time and took myself out of a lot of races here, but I knew our stuff was good enough if I just did my job." Landing car owner Keith Kunz his 37th career victory inside the SageNet Center during Chili Bowl competition, two attempts at the start saw Axsom chasing from the right of the front row as polesitter Daison Pursley paced the field. The CB Industries No. 86 around the bottom, the KKM/Curb-Agajanian No. 68k around the top, Axsom shot off the cushion, exiting the second turn to take the lead. "Thankfully, it was a double-file restart because I fell back," quipped Axsom of the initial start. "It worked out that we were able to run the top in for a couple of laps and then get the restart where I could get a shot because I knew Daison [Pursley] was going to be good on the bottom. Their stuff has a lot of grip anywhere he goes so I worked on momentum to where when he did jump up, I could counter his move and throw a slider." Keeping pace through restarts with varying lines to fend off Pursley, the closing laps saw Daison mount a change, but not enough to get there as Axsom crossed with 0.343-seconds to spare. Daison Pursley in second was followed by eighth starting Corey Day. Fourth was Tim Buckwalter with Kale Drake moving ninth to fifth. Wednesday's York Plumbing Qualifying Night saw a field of 73 drivers on hand, bringing the running competing entry total to 213. The Flip Count worked its way to 32 with all drivers okay. Racing resumes Thursday, January 16, 2025, with Hasty-Bake Qualifying Night getting underway with Hot Laps at 4:00 P.M. followed by racing at 5:00 P.M. (CT). The 39th annual Chili Bowl Nationals powered by NOS Energy Drink takes place January 13-18, 2025, under the giant roof of the SageNet Center in Tulsa, Okla.
