- Arenz puts home track knowledge on display in top-five Plymouth IRA run
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) September 6, 2023 - As the 2023 Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series turns down the home stretch, Travis Arenz and the members of the Travis Arenz Motorsports team continue to string together impressive performances in their first full season of 410 Sprint Car competition. After battling through an engine hiccup during the sixth annual Harry Neitzel Tribute race at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, Sept. 1, Arenz bounced back with a strong fourth-place A-main showing at the team's home track - The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. during the annual 2023 Sheboygan County Fair Night event on Saturday, Sept. 2. The Labor Day weekend of IRA doubleheader action kicked off on Friday, Sept. 1 at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway "horsepower half mile" facility. With 23 IRA 410 Sprint cars on hand, Arenz qualified ninth with a lap of 17.002 seconds. After starting on the outside of the front row in the third eight-lap IRA heat race, Arenz pulled into the infield on lap 3 with an ailing motor and was scored seventh in the race. The engine issue prompted the team to turn to its back-up car for the 20-lap Harry Neitzel Tribute A main. After rolling off 22nd, Arenz worked his way up to place 15th in the race, which was won by Scotty Thiel. "We definitely struggled at Dodge a little," Arenz said. "In the heat race, the motor got warm and I lost power. We found water coming out of the head studs and we ended up losing a head gasket. My crew and I decided the best option was to get the back-up car down. We had to start in the back for the feature, but we were able to pass seven cars. Finishing in one piece was the goal, after the rough start." The following night, the team returned to the familiar confines of The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. for the annual Sheboygan County Fair Night IRA Sprint Car event and the fifth 2023 IRA appearance at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds third-mile clay oval track. With 30 cars on hand, Arenz turned in a fast lap of 11.973 seconds to qualify third overall. The 16th year driver then started and finished fourth in the third eight-lap IRA heat race. The 2021 and 2022 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car champion lined up on the pole of the first four-lap IRA dash and led throughout to notch his second IRA dash victory of the 2023 season and nail down the pole for the 30-lap main event. Arenz rode the low groove to lead the first four laps of the 30-lap headliner from the pole. On lap five, outside front row starter Jake Neuman swept past the Sheboygan Falls, Wis. driver into the lead along the cushion. Following a caution on lap 8, Bill Balog relegated Arenz to third. After two more caution periods, Joel Myers Jr. slipped past Arenz in the closing laps to take over third. Arenz went on to secure a fourth place showing for his 12 top-five and 14 top-10 A-main finishes during the 2023 season in a race won by Jake Neuman. "Plymouth was definitely one of our better nights," Arenz said. "We qualified third quick, made the dash, won the dash and started on the pole of the feature. I made a few mistakes driving and didn't always hit my marks in the A main, but had to try something on a few laps to try to make clean passes. I finished fourth, but, overall, I can't complain." The Plymouth event also marked the conclusion of the 2023 Hopf Farms Bullring Showdown with Arenz earning a runner-up finish behind Brenham Crouch in the five-race series. Arenz and 25T Travis Arenz Motorsports team will travel to the Northern and Western portions of the state of Wisconsin for the first time this weekend, starting Friday, Sept. 8 at Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, Wis. for the Northern Nationals. The WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks and Midwest Mods will also be on the card. Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. with racing at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 9, the Travis Arenz Motorsports team is scheduled to make its debut at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis. for the prestigious 23rd annual Jerry Richert Memorial. The all-Sprint Car program will also feature the Midwest Power Series 360 Sprint Cars and Traditional Sprint Cars. Pit gates open at 2 p.m. with spectator gates opening at 5 p.m., hot laps at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m. "I'm excited to go to Superior and Cedar Lake this upcoming weekend, as they are two tracks I have never raced at before," Arenz said. Hartmann rolled off 14th and endured three caution flags to register a 19th place finish in the 30-lap IRA headliner. - Alex Pokorski records two top-five showings, leads laps heading into PDTR, MSA 360 Sprint Car finale
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) September 6, 2023 - With the end of the 2023 in sight, Alex Pokorski and the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing team deposited two more top-five showings, including a runner-up showing, while leading a total of 15 laps in the final Midwest Sprint Car Association-Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car doubleheader weekend of the season Friday, Sept. 1 at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. and Saturday, Sept. 2 The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. In addition, Paul Pokorski competed in both MSA events in Spyder Akright's 53A car, highlighted by a strong top-10 showing at Dodge County. Alex opened the sixth annual Harry Neitzel Tribute MSA event at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway on Sept. 1 by qualifying third overall in the 19-car field with a time of 19.406 seconds on the sprawling "horsepower half mile." After starting third in the second eight-lap MSA heat, Alex finished fourth before rolling off second in the 20-lap main event. The fourth year competitor outpowered polesitter Brandon Berth to lead the first six laps before Kurt Davis got past on lap 7. After a pair of back-to-back caution flags on lap 12, Brandon Berth and Brandon McMullen worked their way past Pokorski. Following two more caution flags in the closing three laps, Pokorski battled through the loss of brakes to post a fourth place finish behind third place finisher Scotty Neitzel in Lance Fassbender's car, McMullen in second and race winner Brandon Berth. "Our night at Dodge County went very well until I got to lap traffic and found out I had no brakes," Alex said. "It made it difficult to run the bottom and navigate traffic. Luckily, we got a restart, which helped space things out, and we were able to finish fourth. I think we could've had a chance to win if I had brakes." One night later during the Sheboygan County Fair, Alex qualified fourth in the 27-car field with a time of 12.963 seconds before starting and finishing third in the third 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race to earn a spot in the A main. After the passing points formula calculation and inversion draw, Alex started on the pole and led the first nine laps before Brandon McMullen used a low move to assume the top spot. Alex held on the rest of the way to earn his sixth podium, 12th top-five and 21st top-10 showing of the 2023 MSA-PDTR season. "Plymouth was a fun night," Alex said. "We got to lead some laps in the feature again and ended up second. Brandon [McMullen] was just really good. If I had moved to the bottom a little sooner, I may have led some more laps, but the 98 car was still going to be tough to beat." Paul qualified 14th in the Harry Neitzel Tribute race at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway on Friday, Sept. 1 in his first start at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in nearly three years with a lap of 19.779 on the half mile. After starting and finishing seventh in the second eight-lap MSA heat race, Paul started the 20-lap Harry Neitzel Tribute race from the 15th position. The 31-year veteran drove a smooth and consistent race, while enduring four caution periods to advance eight spots to rack up a strong seventh place showing in a race won by Brandon Berth. "It's been a while since I did a doubleheader," Paul said. "Friday night went surprisingly well at Dodge County, after having not been there in a while. We made some changes each time we hit the track and it got better as the night went on. I felt pretty comfortable and had a good time in the feature." On Saturday, Sept. 2, the 2014 MSA Masters Series champion qualified 16th among the 27 cars on hand with a time of 13.211 seconds before starting and finishing sixth in the third 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race, to move on to the B main. After starting on the pole, Paul led all 12 laps to record his first race victory of the 2023 season in the PDTR-MSA B main. The three-time Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car Winged Super Modified champion then placed 21st in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA A main, after starting 17th. "Saturday night was a little bit more of a bumpy road at Plymouth," Paul said. "We had a really fast group of cars in our qualifying session, so we ended up about where I expected. It was the same for the heat race. The car felt pretty good in the B, so I was optimistic about the feature. I was disappointed with our lack of performance in the feature. We're still trying to figure out what we missed with regard to set up. It's hard to believe another year is almost done!" After three weekends off, Alex Pokorski and the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team will be in action for the 2023 PDTR-MSA season finale as part of the Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Sept. 30. The Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Cars, Wisconsin wingLESS Sprint Cars and IRA Lightning Sprints will also be on the card for their 2023 season finales. - Austin Hartmann aims for IRA Labor Day weekend doubleheader bounce back
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 30, 2023 - After being involved in one of the most violent-looking accidents of the 2023 Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series season last Friday, Aug. 25 at 34 Raceway, Austin Hartmann and the members of the 87A Hartmann Racing team have worked diligently in recent days to prepare the team's backup car for the traditional IRA Labor Day weekend doubleheader at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, Sept. 1 and The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. during the Sheboygan County Fair on Saturday, Sept. 2. With 32 IRA Sprint Cars signed in for the second IRA program of the 2023 season at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa on Friday, Aug. 25, Hartmann opened the night on a strong note by recording the sixth fastest overall qualifying lap with a time of 13.183 seconds. After starting third in the second eight-lap IRA heat race, Hartmann got out of shape along the cushion and flipped into the turn two wall before his 87A car caught fire. Hartmann was uninjured in the incident. However, the accident resulted in significant damage to the 87A Hartmann Racing team's primary car and ended Hartmann's night early. The Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series was scheduled to compete with support from the Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) 410 Sprint Cars at Federated Auto Parts Speedway in Pevely, Mo. on Saturday, Aug. 26. However, heavy rain forced the event to be cancelled. Hartmann and the 87A Hartmann Racing team have scrambled over the past several days to put together the team's backup car for IRA competition this weekend, while the damaged primary car has been sent to Maxim Racing for a new front clip. "I want to thank the IRA and 34 Raceway safety crew on the scene, as well as the Neuman family for the hospitality, tearing the car apart and delivering the car to Maxim for us," Hartmann said. "I also want to thank Eric Bergschultz for his hard work and devotion to the team." The weekend kicks off with the annual IRA Harry Neitzel Tribute event on Friday, Sept. 1 at the horsepower half-mile Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with warm-ups at 6 p.m. and hot laps and qualifying to follow before opening ceremonies begin at 7:30 p.m. The Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars and A Modifieds will also be on the card. - Arenz shakes off early challenges, secures top-10 IRA 34 Raceway showing
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 23, 2023 - It was the case of same story, different track for Travis Arenz and the Travis Arenz Motorsports team, as the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series made its second appearance of the 2023 season at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa on Friday, Aug. 25. Much as it has for the majority of the 2023 campaign, the program got off to a bit of a sluggish start with Arenz posting the 17th fastest overall qualifying time in the 31-car field with a lap of 13.544 seconds. Arenz then started on the pole of the third eight-lap IRA heat race before dropping back to finish fourth in the eight-lap event. The 2021 and 2022 Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car champion then drew the 16th starting spot in the 30-lap main event. When the green flag dropped on the 30-lap headliner, the Sheboygan Falls, Wis. competitor turned in what he is known best for - an inspired charge to the front of the field. When the checkered flag flew, Arenz had advanced seven spots to secure a ninth place showing for his 11th top-five and 13th top 10 A-main finish of the 2023 campaign in a race won by Aaron Reutzel. "This time around at 34 was far better than last time," Arenz said. "We reviewed the set-up notes from the beginning of the season and made some adjustments to the car and had much better results. "In the heat race, I was a little too loose," he said. "I made a few adjustments and fared better come feature time. I had more confidence this time around with having more seat time and experience. I am getting a good feel for this car, and getting better at knowing what the car likes and how to fine tune it. That is allowing us to move forward each night of racing." The Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series was scheduled to compete with support from the Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) 410 Sprint Cars at Federated Auto Parts Speedway in Pevely, Mo. on Saturday, Aug. 26. However, heavy rain forced the event to be cancelled. The weekend kicks off with the annual IRA Harry Neitzel Tribute event on Friday, Sept. 1 at the horsepower half-mile Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. - Alex Pokorski stands tall on Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car podium
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 29, 2023 - Alex Pokorski put his measured aggressive driving style on full display by successfully executing a decisive final-turn pass to guide his No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team machine to a spot on the podium with an impressive third place finish in the 25-lap Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car A main at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Friday, Aug. 25. The fourth year PDTR-Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car campaigner opened the special Friday night Plymouth Dirt Track Racing program by qualifying seventh in the 21-car field with a lap of 13.002 seconds. Pokorski then used his outside front row starting spot to lead all 10 laps of the second PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race en route to his third heat race triumph of the 2023 season. The West Bend, Wis. competitor rolled off fourth in the 25-lap 360 Sprint event and worked his way past Tristan Koenings to settle into third on the opening lap. On lap 9, Ben Schmidt maneuvered past to push Pokorski back to fourth in the running order. A caution flag flew on lap 24 for the stalled car of Chris Clayton, which set up a two-lap dash to the finish. After trailing Chris Larson for a number of laps, Pokorski set sail along the high line on the final lap to surge past Larson exiting turn four on the way to a strong third place showing in a race won by Brandon McMullen. It was Pokorski's fifth top-three podium, 10th top-five and 19th top-10 A-main finish in 21 MSA 360 Sprint Car Series events. "It was a fun night at Plymouth," Pokorski said. "I was happy to win the heat race, and it felt good to race into the top three in the last corner of the feature." One night later, Pokorski and the members of the Akright Auto Racing Team travelled south to Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. for the second of two 2023 Akright Auto MSA 360 Sprint Car Series appearances at the venerable three-eighths mile semi-banked clay oval facility. With wet and heavy track conditions prompting the cancellation of MSA group qualifying, Pokorski drew the pole starting position in the fourth eight-lap MSA heat race. Pokorski got the jump on outside front row starter John Fahl to lead all eight laps on the way to his fourth heat race triumph of the 2023 season. Pokorski then started the 25-lap MSA main event from the fifth position before he was involved in a three-car incident along the front stretch on lap 3, which also involved Chris Larson and Lance Fassbender. The red-flag incident produced significant front-end damage on Pokorski's No. 4 car, which prompted pit crew members from the MSA teams of Brandon Berth, Brandon McMullen and J.J. Pagel to leap into action to assist the Akright Auto Racing Team pit crew in getting Pokorski's machine back on the track. Pokorski returned to restart 19th. Over the final 22 laps, Pokorski moved up five positions to record a 14th place finish in a race won by Ben Schmidt. "Our night at Wilmot started well, as we picked up another heat race win," Pokorski said. "In the feature, two cars got tangled up in front of me and I jumped a right rear tire trying to avoid them. My crew, along with some others, did some nice work to get me back on the track in time. I raced the remainder of the feature with a bent front axle and ended up 14th. I was hoping to get another two spots or so, but I was glad we got a few spots back after the incident." Paul Pokorski was also behind the wheel of Spyder Akright's 53A car for the eighth time during the 2023 at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Friday, Aug. 25. After qualifying eighth overall with a lap of 13.004 seconds. Paul started first and finished fourth in the first 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race. Paul then rolled off 14th in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA headliner before he was involved in an opening-lap incident when Katelyn Krebsbach spun in turn two. After going to the work area following minor contact, Paul returned to restart 21st. The 2014 MSA Masters Series champion battled back to build up some nice momentum during an extended run of green-flag laps on the way to a solid 13th-place showing. "My qualifying effort was about what I expected," Paul said. "I was disappointed with the heat race finish. We were dealing with some minor handling issues that I think we have figured out, so we don't repeat them. We made several changes for the feature, which made the car pretty decent. I was disappointed with the trip to the work area, but I wanted to make sure the car was okay after some light contact with a spinning car. I was happy that I was able to drive past several cars and work my way back up to one spot better than I originally started. All things considered, it wasn't a terrible night. I'll be back in the car on Friday at Dodge County." Both Paul and Alex Pokorski are expected to be in action with the Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing - Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars, which will join the with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series and A Modifieds for the annual Harry Neitzel Tribute event at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, Sept. 1. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with warm ups at 6 p.m. followed by hot laps and qualifying with opening ceremonies at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 2, Alex Pokorski and the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team will take part in the annual all-Sprint Car event held during the 2023 Sheboygan County Fair along with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series on Saturday, Sept. 2. On-track action is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with hot laps, qualifying and racing to follow. - Arenz earns runner-up Angell Park tally, Wilmot hard charger honors in IRA twinbill
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 23, 2023 - On the heels of a two-week break from racing action, Travis Arenz and the members of the Travis Arenz Motorsports got back into the swing of the 2023 Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association schedule with a doubleheader weekend featuring events at the Kenosha County Fair at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 19, which yielded a hard charger award A-main effort, and Corn Fest at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis., which saw Arenz stand on the podium with a second place A-main finish on Sunday, Aug. 20. The Sheboygan Falls, Wis. driver opened the Kenosha County Fair IRA program at Wilmot Raceway on Aug. 19 by qualifying 13th in Group A and 20th overall in the large 41-car Roger Iles Tribute IRA field with a lap of 13.602 seconds on the three-eighths mile semi-banked clay oval. The 2021 and 2022 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car champion then started and finished seventh in the first eight-lap IRA heat race to miss an A-main transfer spot by two positions. After lining up fifth in the 12-lap B Main, Arenz worked his way steadily to the front of the field en route to a second place finish to earn a berth in the 30-lap Roger Iles Tribute A-main event. Arenz rolled off from the 22nd starting spot in the IRA main event before mounting a spirited run up through the field to pass 11 cars en route to an 11th place showing to garner IRA Hard Charger Award accolades in a race won by Bill Balog. "Wilmot was definitely a struggle in the beginning," Arenz said. "There were 41 cars in attendance and I qualified mid-pack. This started us deep in the heat race and I was unable to transfer to the feature. In the B main, I was able to move up and put the car in the feature. I started 22nd in the A main and was making good ground. Unfortunately, a caution came and my car had shut off, which sent us to the back yet again. I had a good car and ended up finishing 11th." On Sunday, Aug. 20, Arenz and the members of the Travis Arenz Motorsports team traveled to Angell Park Speedway where Arenz timed in sixth in Group B and 15th overall among the 34-car field with a lap of 13.393 seconds around the historic third-mile semi-banked clay oval. After starting on the outside front row of the fourth eight-lap IRA heat race, Arenz got the jump on polesitter Jeremy Schultz to take the lead on the opening lap. The 2023 IRA Rookie of the Year candidate held strong at the front of the field on the way to his third heat race victory of the 2023 campaign, which earned him his fifth 2023 appearance in an IRA dash. After starting and finishing third in the second IRA four-lap dash, Arenz earned the sixth starting spot in the 30-lap Corn Fest A main before advancing to fifth with a pass on Austin Hartmann on lap 2. After a caution period on lap 8 for the slowing car of Scotty Neitzel, Arenz ripped off a slide job to seize fourth from Jake Neuman. Following a red flag on lap 13 when Scotty Thiel's car flipped on its side along the back stretch, Arenz restarted third before getting around Kyle Schuett to assume second place in the runner order. Another spin on lap 16 involving Thiel bunched the field for one last restart. However, Balog was just too tough as he pulled away from Arenz and the rest of the field en route to the victory, while Arenz followed close behind to assume a podium runner-up showing. The second place A-main result marked Arenz's 10th top-five A-main finish and 12th top-10 main event showing of the 2023 season. "At Angell Park, we made do with what we had," Arenz said. "We did not have our usual push vehicle, so we had to carry everything to the infield for qualifying. We forgot many things I would have liked to have, but we made it work and I was eighth quick in my group. We won our heat race, which put us in the dash and we rolled out sixth for the feature. The car again was good and finished second." "Unfortunately, the accusations of cheating are resurfacing," he said. "While we were in tech at Angell Park on the scales, we were given a verbal warning for the 'abnormal noise' produced by my foot." The Travis Arenz Motorsports team is set to compete in an out-of-state IRA doubleheader weekend, firing up on Friday, Aug. 25 at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa. The Mini Hauler and Vintage Modified divisions are also on the card. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. with spectator gates opening at 5 p.m., followed by hot laps at 6:15 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 26, the Travis Arenz Motorsports team will make its first appearance at Federated Auto Parts I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Mo. as part of a Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association (IRA) - Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) co-sanctioned 410 Sprint Car event. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. with spectator gates opening at 5 p.m., hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. "I am looking forward to going back to 34 Raceway," Arenz said. "I'm hoping to have a better outcome than last time. I am always excited to be able to compete at tracks I have never raced at before, like I-55 this weekend. I'm hoping we have good results, as well." All 2023 Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series events will be streamed live on FloRacing. - Hartmann showcases speed, nabs Angell Park top-15 in Wisconsin staple track IRA doubleheader
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 23, 2023 - Following a two-week hiatus from racing competition, Austin Hartmann and the members of the 87A Hartmann Racing team fired up the home stretch of the 2023 Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series season with a pair of events at two of the circuit's mainstay facilities - Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 19 and Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, Aug. 20. Hartmann opened up the IRA weekend double dip with the annual Roger Iles Tribute event during the Kenosha County Fair at Wilmot Raceway by qualifying 16th in Group B and 32nd overall in the stout 41-car field with a lap of 13.910 seconds. The 2020 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Rookie of the Year Award recipient then started eighth and placed seventh in the second eight-lap IRA heat race before starting and finishing 10th in the 12-lap B main to fall six spots short of an A-main transfer spot. The disappointment of missing the Wilmot A-main field didn't linger long, as the 87A Hartmann Racing team got right back to it 24 hours later at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. for the annual Corn Fest event on Sunday, Aug. 20. Hartmann got back on track with a characteristically strong qualifying effort by registering second fastest Group B time and the 10th fastest overall qualifying lap in the 34-car field with a lap of 13.139 seconds. The Plymouth, Wis. competitor lined up fourth in the fourth eight-lap IRA heat race and exchanged the third place position with Mike Reinke during the race before earning an A-main transfer position, as well as a spot in the dash for the sixth time in 2023 with a fourth place finish. After drawing the pole in the first four-lap IRA dash, Hartmann placed second behind Scotty Thiel to claim the fourth starting spot in the 30-lap IRA Corn Fest main event. The fourth-year Sprint Car driver utilized the bottom part of the track for the majority of the race en route to a 14th place finish in a race won by Bill Balog. The 14th place effort marked Hartmann's 10th top-15 A-main showing of the 2023 IRA season. - Alex, Paul Pokorski steer Akright Auto 360 Sprint Cars to top-10 showings at Plymouth
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 22, 2023 - One week after turning in a pair of top-five A-main finishes, the father-son driving tandem of Paul and Alex Pokorski each recorded top-10 main event tallies in Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing - Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 19. With 20 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars on hand, Alex opened the night strong by earning his second fast qualifier award of the 2023 season with a fast lap of 12.534 seconds around the third-mile semi-banked clay oval. In the second 10-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race, Alex started fourth and fell back to fifth when Kevin Karnitz snuck past in the early going. The fourth-year 360 Sprint Car racer held down the fifth position throughout the race on the fast and challenging track surface. Following the calculation of the passing points formula and inversion draw, Alex lined up 16th in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car headliner. The West Bend, Wis. driver put together a solid run through the field, advancing to 12th on lap 3 after sweeping past Tristan Koenings and Katelyn Krebsbach. The lone caution of the event flew on lap 16 when Koenings stalled along the front stretch. Following the restart, Alex advanced to 10th on lap 19 and maintained the spot over the final six laps to earn his 18th top-10 A-main finish in 19 2023 MSA events in a race won by Brandon McMullen. "I was happy to get our second quick time award of the year," Alex said. "It was a bit frustrating to end up fifth in the heat race after starting fourth, but these things happen. I knew it was going to be tough to pass due to the narrow, fast track in the feature. I wanted to make the top 10, and we did end up doing that. We had a nice run in the feature and I feel like we had a car that could've finished in the top five, if we started two rows further up." Paul Pokorski qualified Spyder Akright's 53A car seventh overall in the 20-car field with a lap of 12.782 seconds before lining up on the pole of the second 10-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race. Outside front row starter Tyler Davis got the jump on Paul on the drop of the green flag which resulted in a second place finish for the 31-year open-wheel racing veteran. For the second week in a row, the 2014 MSA Masters Series champion started on the pole of the 25-lap PDTR-MSA main event before falling to third on the opening lap as Lance Fassbender and Brandon McMullen snuck past in turn two. Paul held down the third spot until Ben Schmidt moved by following the lone caution of the race on lap 16. With five laps remaining, Paul got sideways coming off of turn two, which caused him to lose several spots. The three-time Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car Winged Super Modified champion settled in the ninth position, which is where he finished the race to tally his third top-10 A-main finish of the PDTR-MSA 2023 campaign. "I was happy with the qualifying effort, as it put us in a good spot for the heat race," Paul said. "I was a little disappointed that we couldn't come away with the win in the heat race because I thought the car was pretty good. It was nice to be able to start on the pole of the A main for the second week in a row. Unfortunately, the result wasn't quite as good. The track had a little bit of character and I missed the set up just a little bit. Then I made a few too many mistakes, which obviously cost us a lot of spots. That was disappointing but we're in one piece and we will go at it again on Friday at Plymouth." Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will compete in an Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association doubleheader weekend of action starting Friday, Aug. 25 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis., which will also feature the WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour, PDTR Grand Nationals and B Mods. Paul Pokorski is also scheduled to be in the seat of Spyder Akright's 53A 360 Sprint Car at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Friday, Aug. 25. Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m. with qualifying set at 6 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 26, Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will head to Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. for the second MSA 360 Sprint Car event of the 2023 campaign at the three-eighths mile semi-banked clay oval. - Paul and Alex Pokorski hit father-son top-five mark at head of Plymouth MSA A-main field
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 15, 2023 - Paul and Alex Pokorski enjoyed the type of night that will live long in the memories of family, friends team members, supporters and fans, as the father-son racing duo steered their Spyder Akright-owned 360 Sprint Cars to top-five showings in Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing - Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A-main competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 12. With 24 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing - Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars on hand, Alex Pokorski reeled off the fourth fastest qualifying time with a lap of 12.808 seconds around the third-mile semi-banked clay oval. After lining up third in the second 10-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race, Alex dove low to pass front row starters Tony Wondra and Logan Julien and seize the early lead in turn two of the opening lap. On lap 2, Ben Schmidt used the high groove to relegate Alex to second, which is where he finished the race to gain an A-main starting berth. Alex rolled off third in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car A main and moved past outside front row starter T.J. Smith to assume second in turn one on the opening lap to trail his father, Paul, who led the first five laps of the race from the pole. On lap 4, Brandon McMullen powered around Alex to push the No. 4 Akright Auto car back to third in the running order. On lap 10, Ben Schmidt bolted past Alex to drop the West Bend driver back to fourth. The first of two caution flags appeared on lap 15 when Justin Erickson spun in turn four. After the restart, T.J. Smith pulled off a slide job to briefly seize fourth from Alex. However, the fourth-year Sprint Car racer battled back to return the slide job favor and regain fourth in turn four on lap 16. Alex held on through a lap 21 caution and heavy lapped traffic in the closing stages of the race to record a fourth place finish, which marked his ninth top-five and 17th top-10 finish in 18 2023 MSA A-main events. "Qualifying and the heat race both went well," Alex said. "When you start a race up front, the initial thought is always to keep yourself in contention for the win. I thought the race went well, but I didn't quite have the edge to beat the guys in front of me, one of them being my dad [Paul Pokorski]. It was fun to race with him and to have both of us finish in the top five. That's not something everyone gets to do. I enjoyed the night, even though he ended up beating me. I'm looking forward to finishing out the season strong with the team." In his sixth appearance of the 2023 season Spyder Akright's 53A car, Paul Pokorski began the night by qualifying 13th overall with a lap of 13.109 seconds. After starting fifth in the second 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race, Paul used a low move on lap 3 to work past Tony Wondra to take fourth. Two laps later, Paul maneuvered around Logan Julien to take third, which is where he finished. Following the calculation of the heat race passing point formula and subsequent A-main inversion draw, Paul lined up on the pole of the 25-lap main event. The 31-year 360 Sprint Car and Winged Super Modified racing veteran bolted into the lead on the drop of the green flag and paced the first five laps before Brandon McMullen shot past along the outside groove to take over the lead in turn one on lap 6. Paul maintained the runner-up spot until lap 12 when Ben Schmidt worked his way past to move Pokorski back to third. Paul worked the preferred outside groove to hold strong through a pair of caution flags and thick lapped traffic during the second half of the race on the way to a strong third place podium finish in a race won by Brandon McMullen. It was Paul's first top-five A-main finish and second top-10 main event showing in six 2023 appearances in Spyder Akright's 53A machine. "I was a little disappointed in my qualifying effort," Paul said. "I thought the car was just a tick better than that. I was following another car in qualifying and got held up just a little bit on the entry to a corner or two and I think that probably cost us a little. In the end, it worked out as we passed a few cars in the heat race. The car felt pretty good. I think I'm finally starting to get comfortable with this car. "When the invert put me on the pole for the A main, I got a little nervous," he said. "I haven't been nervous in a while. We made a fair amount of changes and I wasn't sure it would be comfortable in the feature, so I was a little tentative at the start. Once we got a couple of laps in and the car felt good, the nerves certainly went away, and I had a good time. Even though I thought I was holding my own, I was pretty certain that Alex [Pokorski] would go past at some point. I knew from the scoreboard he was right behind me. You always want your kid to do good, but every once in a while, it's nice to beat them too, so we'll take it as a victory for the old guys. We're both happy we could give Spyder [Akright] and the Akright Auto team a nice solid night for both of us. Needless to say, there were lots of smiles around the pit area after the race. When you had a good week and you're looking forward to next week, it makes the work week go faster too." The next race for Alex Pokorski at the Akright Auto Racing Team is this Saturday, Aug. 19 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis., which will also feature the PDTR Grand Nationals and B Mods, along with an appearance from the Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series. Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying set at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m. Sponsors and supporters for Alex Pokorski and the 2023 Akright Auto Racing Team include Akright Auto, Petersen Septic Systems, Goeden Auto Body, Novak's Service Center, Mulch Express of Wisconsin, Countryside Designs, Wisconsin Bank and Trust, Homestead Auto, Cedar Valley Hunt Club, Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts, RC Custom Design and Pedal Down Promotions. - Michigan detour leads Hartmann on fast path at Butler Motor Speedway, big IRA double dip awaits
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 26, 2023 - After rain washed out the scheduled Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour, Wis. on Friday, July 21, Austin Hartmann and the 87A Hartmann Racing team made a late decision to head east for a weekly 410 Sprint Car event Butler Motor Speedway in Quincy, Mich. on Saturday, July 22, which paid off with an impressive top-10 A-main result for the Plymouth, Wis.-based team. In his first career appearance at the three-eighths mile high-banked Butler Speedway clay oval, Hartmann ripped off the third fastest qualifying lap in the 24-car field in 13.424 seconds. The fourth-year Sprint Car driver then lined up fourth in the third eight-lap heat race before advancing two spots to place second. The 2020 Midwest Sprint Car Association and Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car Rookie of the Year Award winner rolled off fourth in the 31-lap Chuck Wilson Memorial Legends of the Past 410 Sprint Car main event and drove a smooth and smart race to finish sixth in a race won by Darin Naida. The sixth place showing was Hartmann's sixth top-10 A-main finish of the 2023 campaign. "Butler is a badass little joint, which fit my driving style perfectly," Hartmann said. "Overall, we had a good showing. We found some speed late in the A main, which is where we've slacked so far this season. I want to thank Scotty Thiel and Eric Bergschultz for making the trip to Michigan with us." - Hartmann's River Cities Speedway top 10 highlights IRA western road trip
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 19, 2023 - Three straight nights of racing on two different tracks against a tough band of local 410 Sprint Car competitors 621 miles away from home is the test Austin Hartmann and the 87A Hartmann Racing Team took on gladly, during a tripleheader weekend of Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association (IRA) 410 Sprint Car Series versus Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA) action at 1-94 emr Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minn. Thursday, July 13 and River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D. Friday, July 14 and Saturday, July 15. The three-race weekend fired up Thursday, July 13 with the IRA's first visit to the high-banked three-eighth mile I-94 emr Speedway facility. The Plymouth, Wis. competitor opened the night strong by qualifying fourth overall in the stout 38-car field with a lap of 14.029 seconds. The 2020 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Rookie of the Year Award winner started third in the second eight-lap IRA heat race before dropping back to fifth. Hartmann recovered to pass Gage Pulkrabeck on lap 7 to secure a fourth place finish and earn a spot in the 30-lap main event. After starting 13th in the IRA-NOSA headliner, Hartmann fell back to 18th on lap 18 before three caution and red flag periods helped him move up to 14th on lap 27. However, Hartmann dropped out of the event in the closing laps and was scored 19th in a race won by Mark Dobmeier. The action moved further Northwest to the high-banked quarter-mile River Cities Speedway clay oval in Grand Forks, N.D. for the first half of the two-night IRA versus NOSA Buffalo Wild Wings King of the Wings event. With a 36-car field on hand, Hartmann qualified 11th overall with a lap of 10.943 seconds before starting on the pole of the second IRA-NOSA heat race and leading all eight laps to notch his second heat race victory of the 2023 season. The heat race victory earned Hartmann his fourth IRA dash appearance of the 2023 campaign. After lining up third in the first four-lap IRA-NOSA dash, Hartmann finished fourth to earn the seventh starting spot in the 30-lap A main. Hartmann moved up from his seventh starting spot to assume sixth on lap 12. The second-year 410 Sprint Car competitor hovered around the seventh and eighth positions over the last half of the event before coming home with a 10th place finish to secure his fifth top-10 A-main finish of the 2023 campaign in a race won by Mark Dobmeier. The three-race western swing concluded with the second half of the Buffalo Wild Wings IRA-NOSA King of the Wings event at River Cities Speedway on Saturday, July 15. With 37 cars registered for the event, Hartmann qualified seventh with a lap of 10.822 seconds before starting on the pole and finishing third in the first 10-lap IRA-NOSA heat race. Hartmann rolled off 13th in the 30-lap main event and went on to cap off the weekend with a 20th place finish in a race won by Austin Pierce. "It was a great weekend overall for the team and myself," Hartmann said. "We built a lot of confidence on the slick tracks." Hartmann and the members of the 87A Hartmann Racing Team will return to racing closer to home as it visits Outagamie Speedway in Seymour, Wis. for a Bumper to Bumper IRA 410 Sprint Car Series event during the Outagamie County Fair on Friday, July 21. - Arenz hangs tough in first tripleheader road trip of rookie IRA 410 Sprint Car campaign
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 19, 2023 - In their 16th year of competition, Travis Arenz and the members of the Travis Arenz Motorsports team experienced something new, as they embarked on the first multi-state tripleheader racing weekend road trip of their rookie season with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series Thursday, July 13 at I-94 emr Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minn. and Friday, July 14 and Saturday, July 15 at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D. The three-race stand of IRA versus Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA) events rolled off with the IRA's initial visit to I-94 emr Speedway, a three-eighth mile high-banked facility in Fergus Falls, Minn., with a strong field of 38 competitors on hand on Thursday, July 13. In his first competitive laps at I-94 emr Speedway, Arenz started the night by qualifying 20th overall with a lap of 15.118 seconds. The 2021 and 2022 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car champion started on the pole of the fourth eight-lap IRA-NOSA heat race before outside front row starter Mark Dobmeier moved Arenz back to second in turn two of the opening lap. The Sheboygan Falls, Wis. driver then held off Jade Hastings to earn an A-main transfer spot with a second place showing. After starting 14th in the 30-lap IRA-NOSA main event, Arenz was running in the 13th position when he slowed to bring out a caution flag on lap 13. After retiring from the race with a broken throttle linkage, Arenz was scored 23rd in the final running order in a race won by Mark Dobmeier. "Once again, drawing for qualifying was not in our favor for any of the nights at I-94 or River Cities," Arenz said. "I thought I-94 was a neat track. It was the first time I had been there, but I just took it as any normal night of racing. "I tried to do my best to read the track with the hopes to set up a competitive car," he said. "The car felt decent for the most part, but I did break a throttle linkage in the feature, which ended our night." On Friday, July 14, the Travis Arenz headed northwest to the vaunted quarter-mile River Cities Speedway bullring in Grand Forks, N.D. where a field of 36 competitors signed in for the first half of the two-night Buffalo Wild Wings King of the Wings event. Arenz opened the program by registering a qualifying lap of 11.361 seconds, which was good for 22nd overall. After starting the pole in the third eight-lap IRA-NOSA heat race, Arenz wound up second behind hometown Grand Forks, N.D. racer Brendan Mullen. After starting 14th in the 30-lap IRA-NOSA A-main, Arenz endured a lengthy stop-and-start main event, which featured five caution and red flag periods, to record a 12th place showing in a race won by Mark Dobmeier. The second half of the IRA versus NOSA Buffalo Wild Wings King of the Wings event saw Arenz begin the program by qualifying eighth in the 37-car field with a lap of 11.002 seconds. Arenz again started on the pole of his heat race for the third straight event, as he rolled off first in the second eight-lap IRA-NOSA heat race and wound up second behind IRA points leader and leading IRA Rookie of the Year Award contender Brenham Crouch. The 30-lap IRA vs. NOSA tripleheader finale A main saw Arenz start and finish 11th in a race won by Austin Pierce. Once again drawing was not in our favor for any of the nights at I-94 or River Cities. I thought I-94 was a neat track. It was the first time I had been there but I just took it as any normal night of racing. Do my best to read the track with the hopes to set up a competitive car. The car felt decent for the most part but I did break a throttle linkage in the feature ending our night early. "I thought River Cities Speedway was an awesome facility," Arenz said. "The nights got late because we were fighting with rain and track conditions, but they got everything handled well. We did improve in qualifying and were able to transfer to the feature from the heat. I would have liked to be in a dash, but we will get there. "This was the farthest I have traveled to race and it was a long haul, but we learned a lot and got to race at new tracks with a different type of racing surface," he said. - Pokorski completes solid MSA doubleheader weekend with pair of top-10 showings
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 18, 2023 - Despite facing a few bumps in the road, Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team continued their focused, even-keel approach to the 2023 season by tallying two more top-10 A-main showings, during an Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Series doubleheader weekend of competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 15 and Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, July 16. On Saturday, July 15, a stout field of 27 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-MSA 360 Sprint Cars signed in for Plymouth Racing Wall of Fame Night at The Plymouth Dirt Track. Pokorski opened the proceedings by clicking off the second-fastest group qualifying lap of 12.818 seconds, to end up just .001 of a second behind fast qualifier Kurt Davis. The fourth-year 360 Sprint Car competitor then lined up third in the first 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race and fell back to fourth when Kurt Davis moved by on the opening circuit. Pokorski held on the rest of the way to collect a fourth place showing. After the passing points and inversion draw was completed, Pokorski began the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car A main from the 14th starting position. The West Bend, Wis. driver attempted to utilize the high and wide cushion in the early going, which saw him get crossed up in turn three on lap 2 to briefly fall back to 17th in the running order. Pokorski had passed Doug Wondra and J.J. Pagel to move up to 15th when he lost control of his No. 4 machine in turn two, resulting in the car flipping on its side to bring out a red flag on lap 12. Following a trip to the work area, Pokorski returned at the rear of the field to roll off 21st on the following restart. Pokorski passed Bill Taylor and Katelyn Krebsbach to move up to 19th before a string of four consecutive caution flags ground the race to a screeching halt on lap 19. The lengthy race was then ruled complete due to the 25-lap minute time limit when the fourth attempt to restart the race ended with a six-car incident in turn two. When the scoring was sorting out from the four late-race mishaps, Pokorski was credited with a 10th place showing in a race won by Kevin Karnitz. "Plymouth was a bit of a wild night," Pokorski said. "Luckily, tipping the car didn't do too much damage, and we could keep racing. We managed to salvage a 10th place finish out of a bad night." The Alex Pokorski Akright Auto Racing Team then turned their attention to an MSA event during Bryan Gapinski Tribute Night at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, July 16 where a total of 21 MSA 360 Sprint Cars were on hand. The heat race draw format saw Pokorski start seventh in the first 10-lap MSA heat race. He managed to move up one spot by passing Eric Wilke on lap 2 to gain a sixth place finish. Pokorski rolled off 14th in the 20-lap MSA main event and found himself up to ninth, following a pair of cautions on lap 2 for rookie T.J Haddy's turn four spin and lap 7 when Clayton Rossmann spun in turn two in Nick Daywalt's No. 66 car. On the restart, Pokorski moved past Ben Schmidt on lap 8 to advance to eighth before Tommy Colburn hit the turn two wall to bring out a caution flag. After restarting seventh, Pokorski drove around Kurt Davis with a high move on lap 9 to gain sixth before Bill Taylor flipped on the front stretch to bring out the fourth stoppage period of the race on lap 10. Pokorski fell back to seventh on the next restart and held the spot until lap 17 when rookie Logan Julien flipped in turn two. The final three laps saw Pokorski engage in a tight duel with rookie T.J. Smith for sixth with Pokorski edging out Smith by a half car length at the finish line to secure a sixth place finish in a race won by Brandon Berth. The sixth place showing marked Pokorski's 13th top-10 A-main finish in 14 MSA races during the 2023 season. "On Sunday, we ran really well and made nice adjustments for the A main," Pokorski said. "Our car was much better than last time at Angel Park. I think it was the best track we have had all year. It was a little rough, but it had multiple fast lanes, which made for good racing. I hope we can have more racing surfaces like that." Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will return to PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car action this Saturday, July 22 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. with the Super Six Late Model Series, Grand Nationals and B Mods also on the card. - Hartmann duels with The Outlaws, eyes **Minnesota-North Dakota IRA swing
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 12, 2023 - In his final scheduled 2023 appearance with the NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaws Series, Austin Hartmann guided his 87A Hartmann Racing 410 Sprint Car to his third A-main start of the season with "The Greatest Show on Dirt" in the Badger 40/Larry Hillerud Memorial at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. on Saturday, July 8. With 32 410 Sprint Cars signed in for the night, Hartmann opened the program by ripping off the 18th fastest qualifying lap with a time of 12.554 seconds around the three-eighths mile semi-banked clay oval. After lining up fifth in the second 10-lap World of Outlaws heat race, Hartmann fell to sixth in the early going. After a caution on lap 5, Hartmann used a low move following the restart to move past Matt Vandevere into fifth in turn three on lap 6. He held on to punch his ticket to his third World of Outlaws A-main start of the 2023 season by placing fifth. Hartmann's fifth-place A-main transfer position heat race showing, netted him his first DIRTVision on-track interview with World of Outlaws Pit Reporter Chase Raudman. "We just had a bad start there, but we were able to capitalize," Hartmann said with the DIRTVision camera spotlight shining into the cockpit of his 87A machine. "I can't thank my guys enough. They're all giving it their all, so I have to give it my all." The Plymouth, Wis. driver rolled off 18th in the 24-car Badger 40/Larry Hillerud Memorial field. After running as high as 16th in the early going, Hartmann dropped out in the latter stages of the race. He was scored as finishing 19th in a race won by Carson Macedo. "I felt like it was a good overall night with the Outlaws," Hartmann said. "Qualifying was good, which put us in a good position for the heat race. "I had a terrible start in the heat, but thankfully a caution came out and I was able to pass back for the A-main transfer spot," he said. "I also got some cool screen time with Chase [Raudman] down in the infield. The feature started off great, just fell off slightly and pulled off with an assembled car and took it for what what it was." The 87A Hartmann Racing team is set to embark on a road trip west for a triple-header weekend of Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association vs. Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA) 410 Sprint Car competition starting Thursday, July 13 at I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minn. and continuing Friday, July 14 and Saturday, July 15 at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D. - Pokorski qualifies quickest, adds to 360 Sprint Car top-10 tally at Plymouth Dirt Track
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 11, 2023 - After coming up just short on several occasions, Alex Pokorski finally reached the top rung of the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing - Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car qualifying ladder, while collecting his 11th top-10 A-main showing in 12 attempts behind the wheel of the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team car, during Pedal Down Promotions Night at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 8. With 19 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars on hand, the fourth-year racer opened the night by earning his first-career fast qualifier award with a top lap of 12.368 seconds around the lightning fast third-mile clay oval. After lining up fourth in the second 10-lap 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski used a strong start to pass T.J. Smith in turn two and Katelyn Krebsbach in turn three to work his way into second on the opening circuit. The West Bend, Wis. driver gradually reeled in the lead car of rookie T.J. Haddy in the closing laps before settling for second. Following the heat race passing points calculation and an unfavorable inversion draw, Pokorski started ninth in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car main event. Pokorski worked his way up to eighth on lap 4 on the fast, narrow and tricky track surface before moving around Katelyn Krebsbach to claim seventh on lap 6. In the latter stages of the race, Pokorski found himself hung up along the low line on a few occasions, which slowed his progress in negotiating the razor thin racing groove. Brandon Berth used the high line to slip past Pokorski in the closing circuits, which resulted in an eighth place finish in the caution-free race, which was won by Ben Schmidt. "It felt good to finally get quick time, after being close a bunch of times," Pokorski said. "The heat race was largely decided in the first lap, which went well for us. I might've had a chance to win it, but the 21 [T.J. Haddy] did a nice job, and I didn't have an opening to get past. "We had a fast car for the A main, but the track was narrow and difficult to pass on," he said. "We got buried by the invert draw to start ninth and ended up eighth. I think it was a night where the starting position really mattered. If we started closer to the front, we could've been on the podium." Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team are set for an MSA doubleheader weekend beginning with a PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car event this Saturday, July 15 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. with the Super Six Late Model Series, Grand Nationals, B Mods and Vintage Modifieds also on the card. The program will also include the induction of the Plymouth Racing Wall of Fame Class of 2023 during intermission, along with Autograph Night. Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m. On Sunday, July 16, Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will travel to Sun Prairie, Wis. for the second and final appearance of the 2023 season for the MSA 360 Sprint Cars at the venerable third-mile track. The Salute to Bryan Gapinski event will also include the Badger Midgets and Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series. With 28 IRA 410 Sprint Cars on hand, Hartmann turned in the 14th fastest qualifying time with a lap of 11.968 seconds. The Plymouth, Wis. driver then rolled off fifth in the second eight-lap IRA heat race before an opening lap caution with a spin involving Ryan Ruhl prompted a complete restart. The fourth-year Sprint Car driver fell back to fifth on the opening lap and maintained the spot en route to a fifth place showing and a berth in the 30-lap Scott Semmelmann Memorial main event. The 2020 Midwest Sprint Car Association and Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car Rookie of the Year Award winner started 14th and hovered around the top-15 throughout the event, enduring five caution periods along the way. - There's no place like Plymouth Dirt Track home for Arenz's first IRA 410 Sprint Car victory
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 5, 2023 - After finding success in every racing division he has competed in during his stellar 16-year career, especially at the track located closest to home, Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series rookie Travis Arenz of Sheboygan Falls, Wis. took full advantage of the familiar home track surroundings of The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. to collect his first career IRA Series and 410 Sprint Car division A-main victory in the Scott Semmelmann Memorial Saturday, July 1. With 28 IRA 410 Sprint Car competitors signed in, Arenz recorded the eighth fastest qualifying lap in 11.839 seconds. After starting second in the second eight-lap IRA heat race, Arenz finished second to earn a spot in the 30-lap Scott Semmelmann Memorial main event, as well as a berth in the IRA dash field. Arenz drew the fifth starting spot in the second IRA four-lap dash and used a low move in turn one on the opening lap to work underneath Mike Reinke into fourth. One lap later, the 2021 and 2022 Midwest Sprint Car Association and Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car champion passed Todd Daun along the low line to assume third place in turn four, which is where he finished. Arenz started sixth in the 30-lap Scott Semmelmann Memorial IRA headliner before J.J. Hickle spun in turn four on the initial start, which moved the 2013 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Outlaw Compact 4-Cylinder champion up to fourth on the complete restart. When the green flag fell, Arenz settled into third behind polesitter Caden Englehart in second and second starter Danny Schlafer of Sussex, who grabbed the initial lead. On lap 3, Arenz and Mike Reinke engaged in a spirited back and forth duel for third in the running order before Arenz stayed glued to the low and middle portions of the venerable third-mile clay oval to finally secure the spot on lap 5. After two caution flags on lap 12 for a spin involving Blake Nimee and another caution when Englehart hit the turn four wall on lap 16, Arenz advanced to the runner-up spot on the ensuing restart. After the restart, Arenz hounded the high-riding Schlafer relentlessly along the inside and middle grooves. After setting up a pass for several laps, Arenz ducked under Schlafer to seize the top spot in turn one on lap 19. Once out front, Arenz endured two more caution periods before securing his first career IRA 410 Sprint Car Series A-main victory and 37th overall career A-main victory at The Plymouth Dirt Track in four different divisions - Outlaw Compact 4-Cylinder, B Mod (Sport Mod), 360 Sprint Car and 410 Sprint Car. "I always look forward to racing at Plymouth because I have so many laps on the track and, for the most part, I know what to expect," Arenz said. "Because of that, I am able to work more on my driving and being more consistent. "Throughout the feature, I knew I needed to be patient, consistent and hit my marks," he said. "After I found a line through the middle in turns one and two that worked for me, I quickly realized I could win this." The victory turned the tide for Arenz in recent competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track as his previous best A-main finish in a total of four 2023 410 and 360 Sprint Car events at Plymouth had been a 20th place showing in the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions-IRA Rayce Rudeen main event on Saturday, June 3. "This win feels pretty special and it is one myself and the whole crew will always remember," Arenz said. "From 4-Cylinders to Sport Mods to 360s to now 410s, we've been able to find success and get to victory lane at Plymouth. When I was growing up, all I ever wanted to do was race at Plymouth. It feels great to get one here in a 410 Sprint Car. Considering how things have gone at Plymouth so far this year, this victory was also much needed to get us back on track." The victory marked Arenz' seventh top-five showing and ninth top-10 finish in 410 Sprint Car A-main action during the 2023 season, including six top-five and eight top-10 finishes in 10 IRA main events in 2023. At the half-way mark of the 2023 IRA 410 Sprint Car Series campaign, Arenz sits fourth in the points standings, 153 points behind fellow rookie and current IRA points leader Brenham Crouch with 16 events remaining in the season. With a break in the IRA schedule this weekend, next up for the Travis Arenz Motorsports team is a road trip west for a tripleheader weekend of IRA vs. Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA) competition starting Thursday, July 13 at I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minn. and continuing Friday, July 14 and Saturday, July 15 at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., followed by spectator gates at 5:30 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m. at I-94 Speedway on Thursday, July 13. - Alex Pokorski posts 10th top-10 showing of 2023 MSA campaign
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 4, 2023 - While negotiating the challenges of an uncharacteristically fast and uneven track surface, Alex Pokorski steered the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team car to a solid sixth place showing in the 25-lap Scott Semmelmann Memorial Plymouth Dirt Track Racing - Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A main at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 1. Pokorski opened the night with another strong qualifying effort as he turned in the second fastest overall lap in the 25-car field, which clocked in at 12.412 seconds around the third-mile semi-banked clay oval. The fourth-year 360 Sprint Car competitor then lined up fourth in the third 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race and worked his way past Tristan Koenings with a low move in turn four on lap 8 to secure a third place finish. The West Bend, Wis. driver started third in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA headliner and fell back to fifth on the opening lap as Logan Julien and Brandon McMullen snuck past. After a caution flag appeared on lap 2 for an incident involving Ryan Sawusch, Pokorski dropped to sixth when Robbie Pribnow moved by on lap 5. After another caution flag was displayed on lap 11 when Tommy Colburn stopped on the backstretch. Pokorski advanced to fifth by passing T.J. Haddy on lap 12. The restart saw Pokorski drop back to seventh when Shane Wenninger and Kurt Davis moved past. However, Pokorski rebounded to work underneath Davis to regain sixth on lap 23. The recent MSA Dodge County Fairgrounds A-main winner held on to claim a sixth place finish and secure his 10th top-10 main event showing in 11 2023 MSA events in a race won by Ben Schmidt. "It was a bit frustrating to be second quick again in qualifying," Pokorski said. "Maybe we can get that $75 one of these weeks. The car was good in the open track, but needs to be more maneuverable when racing near others. We will have to make some changes to our heavy track set up to find something that works for us. "I think we can be in the top five every week, so I'm aiming to be back there next week," he said. Paul Pokorski also entered his fourth PDTR-MSA event of the 2023 season in the seat of Spyder Akright's 53A car. The 31-year veteran opened the night by qualifying sixth overall with a lap of 12.455 seconds. The 2014 MSA Masters Series champion started second in the first 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race and fell back to fourth as Robbie Pribnow and Ben Schmidt advanced past. On the final lap of the race, the rear end assembly of the West Bend, Wis. driver's car failed, resulting in a sixth place finish before his car rolled to a stop on the back stretch following the checkered flag. The Akright Auto Racing Team pit crew worked to replace the rear end in time for the 25-lap PDTR-MSA A main, but they were unable to complete the needed repairs in time for Pokorski to join the main event field. "I was reasonably happy with the car and qualifying," Paul Pokorski said. "We had made some significant set-up changes and tweaked some driver comfort things over the past week, and it all seemed to be going in the right direction. The heat race was going okay, until the rear end broke when something in the ring pinion broke loose. It broke suddenly, and I had no idea that it was coming. That ended our run. "The crew made an attempt to get a change, but we had a couple of snags with the swap and we were about five minutes short of making it," he said. "I appreciate all their hard work and effort in the heat to try and get me back out, but it wasn't meant to be. We'll be back at it next week." Both Alex and Paul Pokorski will again be in action with the PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars this Saturday, July 8 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. with the Grand Nationals, B Mods and Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series also on the card. Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m. Sponsors and supporters for Alex Pokorski and the 2023 Akright Auto Racing Team include Akright Auto, Petersen Septic Systems, Goeden Auto Body, Novak's Service Center, Mulch Express of Wisconsin, Countryside Designs, Wisconsin Bank and Trust, Homestead Auto, Cedar Valley Hunt Club, RC Custom Design and Pedal Down Promotions.
