- Thunderbowl Raceway hosts penultimate SCCT event this Saturday
Tulare, CA…The Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour is set to make its annual October trip to the Central Valley for this Saturday's "Chris & Brian Faria Memorial" at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare. It marks the penultimate show of the SCCT campaign and is the final opportunity for drivers to get laps at the track prior to Trophy Cup 31 on October 16th-18th. Purse info and more on the lucrative event can be found via www.tularetrophycup.com The Faria Memorial this Saturday October 4th also features the NARC 410 Sprint Cars and has long been a cornerstone on the Stone Chevrolet Buick GMC Thunderbowl Raceway schedule over the years. Chris Faria was an up and coming driver who was the youngest of five children to Danny Sr. & Arlet Faria. He grew up on their farm in Tipton and was known as the prankster of the family. Chris unfortunately lost his life at the age of 21 during a farming accident and his memory has been kept alive with a memorial race at the Thunderbowl Raceway ever since. Brian was the oldest of the five Faria children and was taken from us in January of 2006 during an accident while driving on a highway. Brian enjoyed helping out with the track preparation at the Thunderbowl, as he drove the water truck and the grader among other things. "We look forward to hosting the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial on Saturday," track GM Josh Miller said. "It's always one of the big events at Thunderbowl Raceway and having both SCCT and NARC should make for a great night of racing. We hope everyone will come out on October 4th and then return for the Trophy Cup in a couple weeks." With two events remaining in the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour season, it continues to be Austin Wood sitting atop the standings. The 15-year-old from Sacramento hung tough to record an eight-place finish during the most recent race in Petaluma and looks for another consistent outing at Thunderbowl Raceway this weekend. Wood ran eighth at Tulare during a local event in May. Yuba City's Seth Standley finished right behind Wood in the main event at Petaluma Speedway and goes into Tulare 47-markers back of the lead. Standley will be searching for a strong night at the Thunderbowl to close the gap. Rounding out the top five going into the penultimate round of the campaign are Bozeman, Montana's Cole Schroeder, Redding's Max Mittry and Marysville's Dawson Hammes. Comprising the remainder of the top 10 are Brentwood's Adrianna Demartini, Santa Rosa's Tyler Cato, Elk Grove's Bubba Decaires, Marysville's Carson Hammes and El Cajon's Braden Chiaramonte. The SCCT stop at Thunderbowl Raceway last year was captured by Lincoln's Tanner Carrick over Central Valley racer Caeden Steele and San Jose's Tim Kaeding. Tickets and Details: Adult Grandstand tickets for the Faria Memorial/ Trophy Cup Tune-Up at Thunderbowl Raceway this Saturday October 4 cost $35, while Bleacher tickets are $30. Senior and child pricing is also available. Tickets can be purchased at the gate on race day. The front grandstand gate will open at 4pm with the pit meeting held at 5pm and cars on track at 5:30. Hot laps, Sierra Foothills Wine Services qualifying, and racing will follow. The muffler rule will follow track protocols at Thunderbowl Raceway, which mirrors the NARC 410 Series rule. Flowmaster, SpinTech, Schoenfeld 14272735-78 or Extreme mufflers only. The Stone Chevrolet Buick GMC Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds on the corner of Bardsley and K Streets at 620 South K Street Tulare, California 93274. From the junction of SR 99 and SR 137, go west on SR 137. At South K go south one-half mile to the Fairgrounds. - NARC BEGINS HOME STRETCH WITH CHRIS & BRIAN FARIA MEMORIAL AT TULARE
(9/30/25 - Andrew Kunas) Tulare, CA ... The closing stretch of the 2025 NARC King of the West sprint car season is upon us. The first of four races in five weeks is this Saturday as the NARC teams tackle the famous Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare for the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial. This action-packed racing card will also feature the Sprint Car Challenge Tour 360's. The race is one of the cornerstone events at the popular 1/3-mile clay oval. First contested in 2002, the event honors a pair of brothers from the Faria family, longtime participants in California racing. Chris Faria, who was an up and coming racer, passed away after a farming accident in 1993. His older brother Brian, who was active behind the scenes at Thunderbowl Raceway, tragically passed away in early 2006 in a traffic accident, and Brian's name was soon put alongside his brother's for this race. The 2025 race was originally scheduled for April 26th, but Mother Nature interfered and forced its postponement. NARC and Thunderbowl Raceway officials agreed to reschedule the event for October 4th to start a busy stretch to finish NARC's season. The event, held at one of California's most challenging dirt tracks, has long been looked forward to by NARC competitors and fans, and the list of past winners of the race reads like a who's who of west coast sprint car racing. Jason Meyers, a future World of Outlaws champion, won the inaugural event in 2002. National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Brent Kaeding won it twice in the latter years of his legendary career. A young kid named Kyle Larson, years before the NASCAR world got to know him, was the 2010 winner of the race. NARC champions such as D.J. Netto and Kyle Hirst are also past winners. Last year's event, ironically postponed by weather to a later date also, was won by Cole Macedo aboard the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21. WHO TO WATCH Speaking of NARC champions, former series champ D.J. Netto, who lives just down the road from Thunderbowl Raceway in Hanford, holds a slim 14-point lead over another former champion in Sean Becker of Oroville. Netto has two NARC wins to his credit this season, but hasn't won since May. Netto, however, has seen success in Tulare over the years, including winning the 2015 edition of the Faria. Netto hopes his past success at Thunderbowl Raceway will continue as he seeks his second NARC championship. After winning six NARC races during the summer with Australian ace James McFadden in cockpit, the Tarlton Motorsports team will welcome back Oregon's Tanner Holmes, who piloted the car back in the spring. Holmes was victorious in NARC competition with the Tarlton team in May when he took the first of the Twin 20's at the Morrie Williams Memorial in Tulare. After piloting his family's car during the summer, Holmes will rejoin the Tarlton's and is hoping for a repeat of May this Saturday. Between Holmes and McFadden, the seven NARC wins by the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21 team are tied for the most this season with the Mittry Motorsports No. 2x, all of theirs with Justin Sanders behind the wheel. The second of the Twin 20's in May was won by Caeden Steele, and it was the young Fresno-area driver's first NARC win. Steele is another driver hoping that past history will repeat itself on Saturday. Sean Becker, despite running second in points, is winless this season, but has been competitive all season and is coming off a podium run at the last NARC race at Placerville Speedway on September 6th. Another driver expected this Saturday include Campbell's Bud Kaeding, a winner in August at the Johnny Key Classic at Ocean Speedway. Kaeding enters the night third in the points, just 23 tallies back of Netto with four races remaining. Also expected this Saturday are Dominic Scelzi of Fresno, Dominic Gorden of Clovis, Mariah Ede of Fresno, Gauge Garcia of Lemoore, Shane Golobic of Fremont, Billy Aton of Benicia, John Clark of Windsor, Kaleb Montgomery of Templeton, Tanner Carrick of Lincoln, Landon Brooks of Rio Oso, Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield and Cannon McIntosh from Bixby, OK. Arlington. Washington's Jesse Schlotfeldt will be making the journey from the Pacific Northwest also to join NARC for its remaining races. Schlotfeldt won his first career NARC event in June at Cottage Grove Speedway. FAN INFO It will be ALL sprint cars for the fans on Saturday as NARC will be joined by the 360 Sprint Car Challenge Tour. Tickets will be available at the front gate. Grandstand tickets are $35, and $33 for seniors. Bleacher seats are $30 for adults, $28 for seniors and $15 for kids 12 and under. Pit passes are $45. Front gates open at 4:00 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled for 5:45 with qualifying at 6:00 and racing beginning at 7:00 p.m. Thunderbowl Raceway is located along K Street at the Tulare County Fairgrounds. The Northern Auto Racing Club is the premier 410 winged sprint car series in the western United States. - Andy Forsberg surges to another Adobe Cup win at Petaluma Speedway
Petaluma, CA…Andy Forsberg got by Justyn Cox in lapped traffic and went to grab his second consecutive Adobe Cup triumph with the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday at Petaluma Speedway. The Auburn veteran piloted the familiar Pacific Highway Rentals No. 92 Sprinter to his eighth career SCCT victory, which ranks fourth on the all-time win list. "The track was hooked up tonight and that is right up my alley as everybody knows," Forsberg said after his third Sprint Car Challenge Tour win of the season. "I grew up racing on tracks like this, so I think it definitely gives me an advantage. Thank you to the entire PHR 92 team for doing a great job and giving me a rocket ship in the feature." The 35-lap Shop Kyle Larson main event got off to a ragged start when Tyler Cato went upside down on the front stretch. He emerged okay but was done for the night. When the Scott Erwin green flag waved for a second time it was outside front row starter Justyn Cox jumping to the early lead. Cox had a fantastic night going and held command over Sean Becker and Andy Forsberg during the early stages. Once traffic came into play it became a high-speed chess match between the top trio as they kept fans on the edge of their seats. With 10 laps complete Forsberg carved his way past Becker and then set his sights on the leader. Cox was working traffic to perfection up till that point, but got caught behind a car on lap 18 and that's all Forsberg needed to slice his way by to assume the point. At the same time Becker slipped under Cox to claim the runner up spot. Forsberg ultimately withstood a few more slowdowns and went on to accept the checkered flag over Cox, who got back by Becker on lap 25. The Clarksburg native had been one of the hottest drivers at Placerville Speedway to end the season and parlayed that into a strong night at Petaluma, where he qualified second, ran second in his heat race, the dash and the main event. Becker, who began the evening by setting the Sierra Foothills Wine Services Fast Time Award, rounded out the podium, with High Sierra Industries Dash winner Brad Bumgarner and Livermore's Travis Labat rounding out the top five. Completing the top 10 in the feature were Pit Stop USA Hard Charger John Clark, Gilroy's Kurt Nelson, point leader Austin Wood of Sacramento, Yuba City's Seth Standley and Marysville's Carson Hammes. The Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour will head next for Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare on Saturday October 4th. The Chris & Brian Faria Memorial acts as the official Trophy Cup Tune-Up race. - Petaluma Speedway Adobe Cup welcomes SCCT this Saturday
Petaluma, CA…With the season winding down the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour is prepared to sanction the $5,000-to-win "Adobe Cup" at Petaluma Speedway this Saturday September 20th. The evening of family fun at the 14th annual Adobe Cup marks the final appearance of the season for SCCT at Sonoma County's longest running entertainment venue. Following this Saturday's outing the Sprint Car Challenge Tour will have just two events remaining in 2025. Adding to the excitement at the event will be the annual Bob McCoy Super Stock Memorial, along with the BCRA-WMR Midget Super Series. The familiar Petaluma 3/8-mile oval routinely produces thrilling wheel-to-wheel racing, as lapped traffic can create some of the most frenetic competition of any venue on tour. Please note the facility features an earlier start time, with the Pit Meeting at 3:45pm and cars on track around 4. "We look forward to having the Sprint Car Challenge Tour as part of the 14th annual Adobe Cup this weekend," said Petaluma Promoter Rick Faeth. "Petaluma Speedway doesn't hold as many Winged Sprint Car shows nowadays, but the fans have certainly flocked to the track when we have. The Bob McCoy Memorial has also become a big stock car race, and the Midget Super Series has been successful this season, so we think this will be a superb program for everyone to attend." This Saturday's 14th annual Adobe Cup marks the first event for the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour since finishing WST Speedweek in July. Sacramento's Austin Wood goes into Petaluma sitting atop the standings, as he looks to become the youngest SCCT champion in its history. Wood hopes to secure his first win of the season at the Adobe Cup. Yuba City's Seth Standley has moved to second in the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour standings following Speedweek. Standley finds himself 46 points back of Wood and will be gunning for a solid night at the Adobe Cup to help close the gap. Cole Schroeder has also been a common sight this year and has positioned himself third in the points with three shows remaining. The Bozeman, Montana driver stands 50 markers out of the top spot heading into the $5,000-to-win Adobe Cup. Western Sprint Tour Speedweek champion Max Mittry of Redding and Marysville's Dawson Hammes complete the top five in the Sprint Car Challenge Tour standings with three rounds left. The remainder of the top 10 in SCCT points is filled out by Santa Rosa's Tyler Cato, Brentwood's Adrianna Demartini, Elk Grove's Bubba Decaires, Marysville's Carson Hammes and El Cajon's Braden Chiaramonte. Multi-time Adobe Cup winner Andy Forsberg will be one of the favorites in the field on Saturday. The two-time SCCT champ ran second to first time Sprint Car Challenge Tour winner Chance Grasty during the visit in June. - SANDERS WIN NARC THRILLER TO CLAIM PAY DIRT AT PLACERVILLE SPEEDWAY
(9/6/25 - Andrew Kunas) Placerville, CA ... After leaving for a month to pursue other racing opportunities, Justin Sanders made his triumphant return to the NARC King of the West sprint car scene, as he fought his way through traffic and made a late winning pass to score a $5000 Pay Dirt Showdown victory Saturday at Placerville Speedway. Sanders started the 30-lap feature outside the second row and early on passed Dylan Bloomfield to move into the third position, before quickly going after pole sitter Justyn Cox for second. Making that move into the runner-up spot, Sanders then set his sights on race leader Sean Becker. Becker survived an assault by Cox in the opening two laps, withstanding slide job attempts and close quarters between cars on the ¼-mile bullring and then taking off from there with the lead. Becker, however, then was forced to contend with constant traffic on the small oval. That allowed Sanders to close in and challenge during the middle and latter parts of the race. Becker at times made key passes around slower cars to keep Sanders at bay. As the laps winded down, traffic thickened for Becker and left him struggling to find a path around as the race reached five laps to go. That's when Sanders finally pounced, getting a run around the bottom side of Turns 3 and 4 as Becker was held up by a pair of slower cars right in front of him. Sanders scooted by Becker as they exited the fourth turn to lead the 26th lap. Sanders led the final five laps to take his series leading seventh NARC win of the season aboard the Yuba Sutter Aviation-sponsored Mittry Motorsports No. 2x Fisher-powered KPC. Sanders knew Becker was second in NARC points entering the night and was competing for the championship. Because of that, Sanders said he wanted to pass Becker clean and waited for the opportunity to do so as they raced in traffic. "Sean was running a good race. He was switching up his lines and really making me think about what I had to do to get closer. I looked up on the board on Lap 23 and I was like 'I don't know if I'm going to get this' and then we got into traffic and I made it stick on the bottom," said Sanders, who again also praised the Mittry Motorsports team. "Awesome to be back in the 2x. Nice to be back home with these guys. Happy to get another 410 win." Bloomfield made the late pass around Becker in the closing laps to take the runner-up spot and finished there aboard the Gary Silva Ranches-sponsored Vertullo Racing No. 83v Kistler-powered Maxim. Saturday's race was Vertullo Racing's final NARC start before the team relocates to the Midwest after decades as one of the most recognizable cars in California. After leading 25 laps, Becker finished third aboard the D&J Construction Rental-sponsored Bjork Construction No. 7b Shaver-powered Maxim and shaved a few points off D.J. Netto's point lead. After starting on the pole, Cox eventually finished fourth aboard the BERCO Redwood-sponsored Bates Hamilton Racing No. 42x Kistler-powered Maxim. Gauge Garcia ran in the Top 5 throughout and finished fifth in the Monarch Ford-sponsored Keller Motorsports No. 2k Speedway-powered Triple X. Netto finished sixth to maintain his points lead. Chance Grasty, Jesse Schlotfeldt, Kaleb Montgomery and Bud Kaeding rounded out the Top 10. Montgomery earned the Williams Roofing Hard Charger nod, coming from 16th to finish ninth. Cox won the Beacon Wealth Strategies Trophy Dash to claim the pole position for the feature. Heat races earlier in the evening were won by Bloomfield, Netto and Cox. Grasty paced the 23-car field in Automotive Racing Products Qualifying with a time of 10.217 seconds around the ¼-mile bullring clay oval. - Placerville Speedway hosts Kubota High Limit Racing this Saturday
Placerville, CA…The High Rollers of Kubota High Limit Racing make their much-anticipated return to Placerville Speedway this Saturday August 16th, when the annual "49er Gold Rush Classic" invades the El Dorado County Fairgrounds. Grass Valley native and current Placerville resident Brad Sweet brings the point lead into the West Coast Swing. Sweet has a trio wins on the competitive Kubota High Limit Racing trail and sits atop the standings over Indianapolis, Indiana's Tyler Courtney; Clute, Texas' Aaron Reutzel; Knoxville Nationals runner up Rico Abreu and Myerstown, Pennsylvania's Brent Marks. With both Courtney and Reutzel sidelined due to unfortunate injuries, California favorites Giovanni Scelzi and Justin Sanders are set to pilot the NOS Energy Drink No. 7BC and RSR No. 87 respectively. Sanders brought home a runner up result last season with High Limit Racing in Placerville. Clovis driver Corey Day won the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial at Placerville Speedway in 2022 and hopes to add the 49er Gold Rush Classic on Saturday. The two-time Gold Cup champ ran third at the event last year and is fresh off a sixth-place effort at the Knoxville Nationals. - Justyn Cox strikes for first Placerville Speedway win of season on Red Hawk Casino Night
Placerville, CA…Clarksburg's Justyn Cox, Oakley's Nick Baldwin, Auburn's Ray Trimble and Lotus' Shawn Whitney snagged Placerville Speedway victories on Saturday during Red Hawk Resort + Casino Night. Cox ended up leading flag to flag in the Thompson's Family of Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Car finale aboard the Berco Redwood No. 42x mount. It marked his initial triumph of the season, and the 13th of his Placerville Speedway Winged 360 career, giving him sole possession of 14th all-time. Extra money was on the line for the top three finishers in the race in memory of Don London, who we paid tribute to in opening ceremonies. The 25-lap Winged Sprint Car finale took a total of five attempts to complete one lap. When things finally got going, Cox moved out front and scooted away, while the action behind him turned out to be particularly entertaining. Several drivers fought it out including championship contender Tony Gomes, who did exactly what he needed to do in the battle for the title. The Modesto competitor moved into third on lap 13 and then snagged second a few laps from the finish. The runner up result gives Gomes a three-point lead atop the standings heading into the Forni-Humphreys Classic championship finale on September 13th. Placerville's Shane Hopkins motored his way from 12th to third to earn the Hard Charger Award, with Auburn's Andy Forsberg and Sacramento's Austin Wood rounding out the top five. It was a marvelous rebound for Wood, who went to the rear at one point after being in a turn four collision. His charge back forward keeps him just three markers behind Gomes going into the finale. Completing the top 10 in the feature were Cole Schroeder, Dylan Bloomfield, Chance Grasty, Kenny Wanderstadt and Steel Powell. The Red Hawk Resort + Casino Pure Stock feature saw Placerville's Tyler Lightfoot jump out front and set a quick pace over the early stages. Point leader Nick Baldwin carved his way into second after not too long and began to hound the leader. Lightfoot had captured the Carnett Clash during the previous week and looked to fend off Baldwin to make it back-to-back wins in the division. With just a handful of laps remaining however, Lightfoot slowed with issues down the back stretch. Baldwin had nowhere to go and contacted the rear of the No. 23j machine but was able to continue. Following that the six-time Placerville Speedway champion cruised away to collect his 38th career Pure Stock win, putting him one shy of tying Dan Jinkerson. Kevin Jinkerson, Ryan Peter, Michael Murphy and Colton Arbogast finished second through fifth respectively. The Nor-Cal Dwarf Car Association put on a tremendous show in the main event, during what could be described as an instant classic. Multiple different leaders and side-by-side racing was prevalent during the 20-lapper. Shawn Whitney moved out front at the waving of the Ed Entz green flag, with the action behind him as hot as the blistering summer weather during the day. Several movers and shakers were seen as positions changed regularly. Lincoln's Dylan Shrum then marched to the front with he and Whitney putting on a show for the fans on hand. The pair split a lapped car with eight laps remaining, but Whitney got sideways and stalled to draw a caution. After restarting at the tail Whitney proceeded to blast all the way back to the front and challenge Shrum over the final circuits. The thrilling finish saw Whitney beat out Shrum by 0.002 seconds at the scoring loop. Ben Wiesz, Brenden Shrum and Brandon Aylesworth completed the top five. The Dwarf Cars also went home with extra money in memory of Don London. The Kings Meats Ltd. Late Model main event was all about Ray Trimble, who snagged the win over Tyler Lightfoot, Chris Mcginnis and Rod Oliver. Placerville Speedway returns to action this coming Saturday with the 49er Gold Rush Classic featuring Kubota High Limit Racing and BCRA Lightning Sprints. - HOT POINT BATTLE TAKES SHAPE AT PLACERVILLE SPEEDWAY
Placerville, CA…The championship fight is heating up and nearing its conclusion at Placerville Speedway, with the penultimate point race of the season taking place during Red Hawk Resort + Casino Night this Saturday August 9th. Following Saturday's event, the final point race of the campaign will occur during the 20th annual Mark Forni/ CJ Humphreys Classic. The much-anticipated show on September 13th will hand out a solid $8,500-to-win for the Thompson's Winged 360 Sprint Cars. Sandwiched between the final point races are a pair of special events featuring Kubota High Limit Racing next week and the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series on September 6th. Reserved tickets can be purchased for the High Limit 49er Gold Rush Classic via https://www.eventsprout.com/event/psr081625 "We are getting down to the wire on the season but still have some pretty large events remaining at Placerville Speedway," said Promoter Scott Russell. "Our entire staff looks forward to Red Hawk Casino Night on Saturday and then the High Limit Racing show on August 16th. We hope everybody can make it out and help us finish the season in style." Just eight slim points separate the top four drivers in the Thompson's Family of Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Car standings going into Saturday. Modesto's Tony Gomes has put together a consistent campaign and possesses a one-point lead over last season's Rookie of the Year Austin Wood. Gomes has piloted the C&M Motorsports No. 7c to a pair of wins, while Wood is searching for his initial triumph of the year at Red Hawk Casino Night. The driver of the CR Wood Motorsports No. 2a has racked up several qualifying points in recent weeks with multiple ADCO Driveline Fast Time Awards. Previous point leader Andy Forsberg hopes to rebound after issues sidelined him while sitting out front last week. The Auburn driver has guided the Pacific Highway Rentals No. 92 to a trio of point race wins and is tied with Gomes for the most top five efforts, having accumulated seven in the 10 events. Suisun City's Chance Grasty also has the Friends & Family Racing X1 within striking distance of another track title. The 18-year-old goes into Red Hawk Casino Night sitting eight markers back in fourth. Grasty earned his initial Placerville Speedway win during SCCT Speedweek recently. Yuba City's Rod Oliver has extended his Kings Meats Ltd. Late Model point lead to 27 digits heading into the penultimate race. Oliver is in search of his first track championship at Placerville Speedway. Oakley's Nick Baldwin is looking for a sixth straight Red Hawk Casino Pure Stock track title and number seven overall. He leads Kevin Jinkerson by 35 points going into Saturday. The Nor-Cal Dwarf Cars will round out the card, as they also make their next to last appearance of the season. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Set to Return to Action at Perris, Calistoga, and Placerville
Chino Hills, CA — August 4, 2025 — After a brief summer break, Eddie Tafoya Jr. is ready to get back behind the wheel when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series returns to Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday, August 16th. The race marks the beginning of a busy late-summer schedule for the driver of the Specialty Fasteners #51T. Following the Perris event, Tafoya and the team will head north for one of the most anticipated weekends in recent sprint car history — the grand re-opening of the legendary Calistoga Speedway on August 30th and 31st. The doubleheader promises to be a major highlight on the USAC/CRA calendar. Then, on September 1st, Tafoya will cap off the Labor Day holiday weekend by competing with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series at Placerville Speedway. Prior to the break, Tafoya raced at his home track, Perris Auto Speedway, on July 19th — just 10 days after celebrating his 28th birthday. Though the final result wasn't what he'd hoped for, the Southern California veteran showed speed and poise throughout the night. He qualified a strong seventh fastest out of 21 cars with a lap of 16.875. In his heat race, the 2018 PAS Young Gun Champion and 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year started and finished fourth in a stacked field. That set him up in the seventh position for the 30-lap main event. In front of the second-largest crowd of the season, Tafoya jumped into a fierce battle for fifth place early in the main. Showing the speed to challenge for a top-four spot, his momentum was unfortunately stalled by lapped traffic. After clearing a slower car, Tafoya's night took an unfortunate turn when he came to a stop in turn one, ending his charge. Despite the setback, Tafoya's performance showed his car and confidence are in the right place heading into the late-season stretch. "I just have to eliminate the mistakes and figure how to get around traffic when it gets slick like that," Tafoya said. "I was dealing with traffic and switching lines every lap. The lapper would go to where I switched to. I was just kind of going back and forth. I finally got a good run down the front straight. I just held it on a little longer than I should have just to get around the lapper. Then I got in the slick and locked up the brakes and slid to a stop." Forced to restart at the back of the field with only limited laps remaining, the odds were stacked against him. But Tafoya wasn't done. He mounted a determined comeback, charging through the field and clawing his way back to a 10th-place finish at the checkered flag — a clear indicator of the team's pace and persistence. "I thought for a second there we were going to start on the front row again (after qualifying), but we missed it by .01," Tafoya commented about the night of racing. "That definitely could have changed the way that main event went for us." "I am happy with the speed, and I think I have been driving good," he continued. "I just have to focus and put it all together on the same night. I have been trying to put myself in a good position and we have been doing that lately. Part of it is mental and part is car set up and stuff like that. Knowing that you have enough to be up there, we have definitely been showing that lately." Fans can follow Tafoya on Instagram eddietafoya51. Tafoya and the #51T team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for supporting their 2025 racing endeavors. Known as the "Dancing Phantom from Stockton," the "Preacher," the "Hostile Hippie" or just simply "GP," Gary Patterson was one of the most colorful characters of his time and captured several major wins in his career, including the Gold Cup Race of Champions, the Super Dirt Cup in Washington and the Turkey Night Grand Prix at Ascot Park among others. Patterson lost his life in a Sprint Car crash at Calistoga Speedway on Memorial Day weekend 1983 and an event in his memory has been held every year since. "GP" moved to Stockton, California in 1957 and began his career at the Stockton 99 Speedway. This year marks the 13th season in a row that we've paid honor to Patterson in Stockton. - NARC RETURNS TO OCEAN SPEEDWAY FOR 65TH ANNUAL JOHNNY KEY CLASSIC
(7/28/25 - Andrew Kunas) Watsonville, CA ... The NARC 410 Sprint Car Series will make its final visit of the season to Ocean Speedway on Saturday, August 2nd, when the series takes part in the 65th running of the Johnny Key Classic. The event honors a legendary driver who dominated California racing during the late 1940's and 1950's. It was 1952 where Key reportedly won an astounding 54 races in different classes of cars, and that included a 500-lap race at San Jose Speedway where he won by 18 laps. Key won numerous other races in sprint cars and midgets during his career and won several championships. Key lost his life at just 30 years of age in a midget crash in 1954 in Ohio. The Johnny Key Classic was first run in 1954, shortly after his passing, and was won by Danny Graves. It ran for decades under different lengths and formats, but it was run in San Jose until 1999. After a hiatus, the event was brought back in 2007 at Ocean Speedway as a 360 sprint car event. In 2025, the event became a 410 sprint car event under NARC sanctioning. Saturday's race will be the fourth for NARC at Ocean Speedway and will pay $5,000 to the winner of the 30-lap main event. Nick Rescino leads everyone with six Johnny Key Classic victories over the years. Howard Kaeding was a four-time winner while his legendary son Brent won it twice. Other past winners of the race in its various forms include Al Pombo, Clyde Palmer, Marshall Sargent and Mike Sargent, Burt Foland, Chuck Miller, Ronnie Day, Tommy Tarlton, and more recently the likes of Rico Abreu, Justin Sanders, Buddy Kofoid, Tanner Thorson, Shane Golobic and Dominic Scelzi. WHO TO WATCH Former NARC champion Bud Kaeding of Campbell will be one driver fans will be keeping an eye on. While he didn't win on either night at the Howard Kaeding Classic, Bud did lead laps in the main event on the first night before a treacherous cushion bit him and sent him off the track. Kaeding knows Ocean Speedway well and will look at it as an opportunity to get back in the win column in NARC competition aboard the BK Motorsports No. 29. After mechanical issues in his heat race last Saturday at Santa Maria Speedway, Kaeding earned the Williams Roofing Hard Charger Award in the main event, moving up ten positions. Gauge Garcia of Lemoore won last year's Johnny Key Classic, its last as a 360 event. Garcia is still hunting his first 410 victory with NARC, and it would be ironic if that first win came in the event he previously won in something different. He and the Keller Motorsports No. 2k have dealt with motor issues throughout the season but have still shown speed throughout. D.J. Netto, another former NARC champion, has two wins on the season and took over the points lead Saturday at Santa Maria. The Hanford driver and the Netto Ag No. 88n turned in a fourth place run in Watsonville the other weekend but suffered a mechanical problem and dropped out of the feature in Santa Maria. Despite having the points lead, Netto is wanting to get back in the win column this weekend. Also expected to compete is Harrisburg, Oregon's Tyler Thompson, who leads the NARC Rookie of the Year chase and had a podium finish at Ocean Speedway in May. Fresno drivers Caeden Steele and Mariah Ede are expected to join, along with Oroville's Sean Becker, Dominic Gordon of Clovis, Templeton's Kaleb Montgomery and John Clark from Windsor. Former track champion Kurt Nelson is a frequent participant when NARC visits his home track as well. FAN INFO Ocean Speedway is located on the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds in Watsonville, at 2601 E Lake Ave. Front gates open at 3:30 p.m. with racing scheduled 6:00 p.m. Also joining NARC to race on Saturday will be IMCA modifieds, IMCA sport mods and BCRA lightning sprints. Saturday's event concludes the "Cooler Weather Tour," the recent stretch of races for NARC all scheduled along the California coast and featuring comfortable temperatures for teams and fans. After a break allowing NARC teams to go to the Knoxville Nationals in Iowa and High Limit events happening after that in California, NARC returns to action when it visits the reopening Calistoga Speedway for the Louie Vermeil Classic on Saturday and Sunday, August 30th and 31st. The Northern Auto Racing Club is the premier 410 winged sprint car series in the western United States. Since 1960, the traveling organization has thrilled fans at dirt tracks up and down the West Coast and crowned a "King of the West" champion. - THE NARC SPRINT CARS ARE HEADED TO THE "SHOWDOWN AT SANTA MARIA" ON SATURDAY
(7/21/25 - Andrew Kunas) Santa Maria, CA ... -The "Cooler Weather Tour" continues for the NARC King of the West 410 sprint car series this Saturday, July 26th, when the series makes its annual visit to Santa Maria Speedway for the "Showdown at Santa Maria." Santa Maria Speedway, for most of its history that goes back to 1964, has been a regular stop for sprint cars, winged and non-wing. The track had faced closure a couple of times over the years, but recently got back up and running again and in 2024 it returned to the NARC schedule after a three-year absence. Last year's NARC event saw a wild finish in which Justyn Cox tangled with a slower car and flipped upside down on the final lap, costing him a victory. Chase Johnson took advantage and picked up his fourth career NARC win. He was joined on the podium by Kaleb Montgomery and Gauge Garcia, a pair of drivers worth keeping an eye on this Saturday. Montgomery is still hunting for his first NARC victory but has shown flashes at times. Montgomery, who lives just up the road from Santa Maria Speedway in Templeton, has turned in strong runs this season, including finishing fifth and sixth respectively during last weekend's Howard Kaeding Classic at Ocean Speedway. Finishing runner-up at Santa Maria last year and having won the USAC/CRA non-wing race at the same track in May, Montgomery could see this Saturday's race as the one where he gets his first NARC win. Garcia, from Lemoore, is also still searching for a NARC win. He and the Paso Robles-based Keller Motorsports No. 2k team have fought motor problems throughout the season, but have performed well in several main events, often passing many cars and on four occasions this season Garcia earned the Williams Roofing Hard Charger award. Before last year's return to Santa Maria, the last NARC race at Santa Maria Speedway was in 2021, and it was Benicia's Billy Aton who scored his first NARC victory that night. Saturday's event is part of NARC's "Cooler Weather Tour," as some have called it, the current stretch of events for the series happening at tracks along the California coast, where race teams and fans can expect more comfortable temperatures while it is typically very hot in the California interior. WHO ELSE TO WATCH Harrisburg, Oregon's Tyler Thompson has quietly put together a very solid and consistent season as he chases the NARC Rookie of the Year award aboard the Main Motorsports No. 35km. In 15 regular NARC events (not counting the special format seeing inverted main event fields at Skagit Speedway's Super Dirt Cup in June), Thompson recorded ten Top 10 finishes in those races, many of which had been at tracks he hadn't seen before. His best run was a third place finish on May 16th at Ocean Speedway, and in that race Thompson briefly challenged eventual race winner Justin Sanders for the lead. Thompson sits third overall in the points and has twice posted quick time in Automotive Racing Products Qualifying, twice won a heat race and twice earned the hard charger nod. Many have recently begun looking at Thompson as another driver due to make a big breakthrough in 410 sprint car competition. Former NARC champion D.J. Netto of Hanford, twice a winner this season and second in the points entering the weekend, along with 2005 NARC champion Sean Becker from Oroville, and 2019 series king Bud Kaeding from Campbell will fill out a stellar line-up of competitors. Others expected to compete include Fresno drivers Caeden Steele and Mariah Ede, Dominic Gorden from Clovis, Kansas driver Jace Park, Hollister's Ryan Bernal, and many others. FAN INFO Santa Maria Speedway is located at 1900 Hutton Road, right off of Hwy 101, in Nipomo, just north of Santa Maria itself. Tickets are $30 for adults, $28 for seniors 65+, military and students ages 11 to 17. Kids 10 and under are free. Front gates open at 4:00 p.m. with racing scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. Also scheduled to race are IMCA Racesaver sprints, BCRA lightning sprints and dwarf cars. - Strong Weekend For Forsberg Highlighted By Friday Night Win
Taking part in the opening two rounds of SCCT Speedweek, Andy Forsberg raced to a win on Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway and backed it up with a third place run at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
- Chance Grasty flashes to victory at SCCT Speedweek stop in Placerville
Placerville, CA…Chance Grasty withstood the challenges of Austin Wood and Andy Forsberg over the closing stages to claim his first career Placerville Speedway win, during an entertaining main event on night two of SCCT Speedweek. Grasty piloted the Friends & Family Racing/ Bushey Financial Services X1 to a $5,000 triumph at the Gold Pan Rampage. It marked his second ever Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour triumph, after claiming his initial victory at Petaluma Speedway last month. "That was so much fun tonight in the main event racing with Austin Wood and Andy Forsberg," Grasty said after the race. "I kind of messed up in the Dash but definitely made up for it in the feature. I really have to thank the entire F&F Racing team, Bushey Financial Services and all the partners on this car." Cotati's Jake Haulot captured the High Sierra Industries Dash to earn the pole for the 35-lap finale. When the green flag waved, he immediately shot out front and looked strong in the early laps. Austin Wood moved into the runner up spot on lap four, while eighth starting Grasty carved his way into third on lap number seven. Around lap 10 the duo began to go at it and with 11 circuits complete, Grasty slipped to his inside to assume second. With lapped traffic in play Grasty closed in on Haulot and quickly made it a race for the top spot. On lap 14 Haulot and Grasty proceeded to split a lapped car in thrilling fashion, which saw Grasty lead the 15th circuit. Wood then charged to the inside of Haulot to take over second on lap 20, prior to a caution shortly after. On the restart Auburn's Andy Forsberg moved his way into third and it set up an exhilarating 15-lap shootout to the end. Grasty, Wood and Forsberg fought tooth and nail up front with fans on the edge of their seats. A multi-groove surface allowed for some exceptional racing and in the end, Grasty was able to withstand the challenges to accept the Darin Stahl checkered flag. Wood finished the race in a close second with Forsberg rounding out the podium. Haulot and El Cajon's Braden Chiaramonte completed the top five in the Shop Kyle Larson main event. Finishing sixth through 10th were Jake Morgan, Shane Hopkins, Kelly Miller, Max Mittry and Kinzer Cox. Hopkins must be commended on his fantastic drive after starting dead last following a trip to the work area during the warmup laps due to a flat tire. Steel Powell officially earned the Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Award going from 23rd to 15th in the feature. A total of 28 cars competed on night two of SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek. Austin Wood earned the Sierra Foothills Wine Services Fast Time Award for the second straight night with a lap of 10.702. SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek continues Monday night at The Douglas County Dirt Track in Roseburg, Oregon. - Chance Grasty flashes to victory at SCCT Speedweek stop in Placerville
Chance Grasty withstood the challenges of Austin Wood and Andy Forsberg over the closing stages to claim his first career Placerville Speedway win, during an entertaining main event on night two of SCCT Speedweek.
- Andy Forsberg becomes first 3-time winner of the Tyler Wolf Memorial to open Speedweek
Chico, CA…Reigning SCCT Speedweek champion Andy Forsberg endured a wild 35-lap feature in front of a large and vocal crowd on Friday night, becoming the first three-time winner of the Tyler Wolf Memorial at Silver Dollar Speedway. The victory marked Forsberg's seventh career Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour triumph and came aboard his familiar Pacific Highway Rentals/ Oroville Tax No. 92 mount. It was also the Auburn veteran's first win at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico since 2021. "Racing on these types of tracks isn't exactly my cup of a tea, but I just focused on being smooth, hitting my marks and hoped the guys in front of me wore out their tires," Forsberg said afterwards. "I can't say enough for about my team for working their tails off and giving me a great car. Thank you to all the fans for packing this place tonight and we hope to see you back at the Gold Cup next month." Sacramento youngster Austin Wood was the story for much of the night after setting the Sierra Foothills Wine Services Fast Time, before claiming the Tiner-Hirst Ent. Heat Race and the High Sierra Industries Dash. Wood jumped out front at the waving of the green flag and distanced himself from the rest of the field. After about 15-laps however, track conditions began to change as rubber came down, and made tire wear a prevalent factor in the outcome. Drivers continued to race hard throughout the field however and kept fans on the edge of their seats. Modesto's Tony Gomes moved into the second spot and began to reel in the leader after several circuts. Following a caution with nine laps to go the ensuing restart brough drama as Gomes grabbed the lead by slicing the inside of Wood, who slowed that same lap as his right rear tire went down. Wood's bid at a clean sweep ended in heartbreak with him driving back to the pit area. With Gomes up front now it brought Auburn's Andy Forsberg into the second spot and Northwest drver Kinzer Cox in third. As more tire issues continued for several cars the final caution of the feature waved with six circuits remaining. During the last restart Forsberg stayed tucked to Gomes' tail tank and then shot to his inside, making it a side-by-side battle for the top spot. Coming to the line to click off lap 32 it was Forsberg now up front. Seconds after that Gomes slowed with a flat right rear tire, as did a few other drivers. With Forsberg up front he had Cox right there with him down to the wire. As the leaders rounded turn four the final time, another car lost the right rear tire just ahead of their path. Both the front runners did a great job to take evasive action, moving down and crossing the stripe with Forsberg claiming the win just ahead of Cox. Cox, hailing from Cottage Grove, Oregon was making just his fourth career Silver Dollar Speedway start and did an exceptional job to record a stellar runner up finish. He will be a certain favorite over the remainder of Speedweek. Sacramento's DJ Freitas also did an impressive job saving his tires and weaving through traffic to claim his first career Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour podium in third. Freitas won the B-main and carved his way from 20th to take home the Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Award. Yuba City's Steele Powell must also be commended for an excellent drive, as he moved forward late to tally his best ever finish with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour in fourth. Braden Chiaramonte rebounded beautifully after suffering a flat tire with six laps left. The El Cajon driver went to the work area and charged all the way back to round out the top five. Completing the top 10 at the Tyler Wolf Memorial were Jennifer Osborne, Aydan Saunders, Max Mittry, Levi Klatt and Adrianna Demartini. A total of 34 cars competed on night one of Speedweek. SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek continues tonight at Placerville Speedway for the $5,000-to-win Gold Pan Rampage. - SCCT ready to tackle Western Sprint Tour Speedweek on July 18th-27th
Chico, CA…For the second consecutive season the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour is primed for Western Sprint Tour Speedweek, which showcases eight nights of racing at seven different venues from California to Washington. Everything kicks off in a big way at Chico's Silver Dollar Speedway this Friday July 18th with the 12th annual "Tyler Wolf Memorial" race. It will be a definite highlight of Speedweek, as we honor the late racer. It also doubles as Fan Appreciation Night, with grandstand tickets costing just $5. Kids 12 and under will be free. When 20-year-old Tyler Wolf lost his life at Calistoga Speedway in 2012, it was one of the darkest days in recent memory for the California racing scene. The Redding native had captured the Silver Dollar Speedway track title one year prior and was well liked throughout the pit area. The event in his memory continues to be one of the special shows each season at Silver Dollar Speedway and is the only SCCT visit of 2025. One night later Speedweek rolls on with the $5,000-to-win/ $500-to-start "Gold Pan Rampage" at Placerville Speedway on Saturday July 19th. It marks the final Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour appearance of the season at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds quarter mile. Monday July 21st begins a trio of races in Oregon all starting at the Douglas County Dirt Track in Roseburg. Tuesday July 22nd then brings the Sprint Car Challenge Tour to Coos Bay Speedway, followed by Cottage Grove Speedway on Wednesday July 23rd. A travel day with a Fan Fest/ Kick-Off Party on Thursday sets up the SCCT debut at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Washington for the two-night "Fred Brownfield 360 Nationals" presented by Bob's Burgers & Brew, highlighted by a $26,000-to-win/ $1,000-to-start main event on Saturday July 26th. With a unique format on tap at Skagit Speedway, both nights will feature show up points only in the season-long championship race. SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek all comes to a climax on Sunday July 27th at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington. The "Hall of Fame 360 Battle Royale" marks the first series appearance at the track. The overall SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek champion will take home $4,000 as part of an $8,000 total point fund. The runner up nets $2,500 while third place will claim $1,500. Each Shop Kyle Larson main event during Speedweek will hand out a minimum of $3,000-to-win/ $400-to-start the 24-car field. After winning the most recent event, 18-year-old Chance Grasty sits atop the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour standings heading into Speedweek. Sacramento's Austin Wood, Montana driver Cole Schroeder, Yuba City's Seth Standley and Marysville's Dawson Hammes complete the top five. Additional competitors looking to be a common sight during Speedweek will include reigning Garth Moore Insurance Rookie of the Year Braden Chiaramonte from El Cajon, two-time Skagit 360 Nationals winner Seth Bergman of Snohomish, Washington, Marysville's Carson Hammes, Elk Grove's Bubba Decaires, Modesto's Tony Gomes, Arlington, Washington's Jesse Schlotfeldt, Redding's Max Mittry, Cotati's Jake Haulot, Brentwood's Adriana Demartini, Visalia's Jett Barnes, Santa Rosa's Tyler Cato and others. - $80,000+ IN PRIZE MONEY ON THE LINE FOR NARC SPRINT CARS AT HOWARD KAEDING CLASSIC THIS WEEKEND
(7/14/25 - Andrew Kunas) Watsonville, CA ... One of the most special events of the season for the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series is next when it visits Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, this Friday and Saturday (July 18-19), for the 15th Annual Howard Kaeding Classic. The event honors the patriarch of the famed Kaeding family that includes his Hall of Fame son Brent, and grandsons Bud and Tim. HK, as he was known to his friends, was a champion racer in his own right, most especially at the old San Jose Speedway where he won several championships and at one point famously won 17 consecutive races. The race saluting the "Campbell Comet" was already a staple in the California 410 sprint car schedule, but this year's event has taken on special meaning with Howard passing away in February at the age of 92. Before Howard's passing, it was already announced that this year's event would be a two-night show. Now in just the last couple of weeks it was announced that Saturday's purse will see an increase, with the main event paying $10,000 to win ($1,500 to start A), while Friday's show pays a neat $5,000 ($750 to start A.) This was made possible by many generous sponsorships from companies with ties to the Kaeding family and the racing community. WHO TO WATCH With the added special meaning to the event, not to mention the now five-figure payday on the final night, many of the top drivers on the West Coast will be competing hard for victories. Reigning "King of the West" Justin Sanders of Aromas won his second Howard Kaeding Classic last year, one of his seven victories on his way to the 2024 NARC title. Sanders has four NARC wins to his credit this season, including a win at Ocean Speedway in May, but is locked in a tight points race atop the standings with former series champion D.J. Netto of Hanford, who is just one point ahead of Sanders. Netto, meanwhile, has never won a Kaeding Classic and would love to add one to his resume. Of course, no racer out there would love to win this weekend more than brothers Tim and Bud Kaeding, who will be racing with heavy hearts at the race honoring their grandfather. Bud has twice won the HK, picking up wins in 2014 and 2019. Tim picked up his 75th career NARC victory on Saturday at Petaluma Speedway and like his father and grandfather is one of the most accomplished sprint car racers ever from California. He has never won a Howard Kaeding Classic and Tim no doubt wants to get that first one this Saturday. Fremont's Shane Golobic, the 2023 Howard Kaeding Classic winner, is expected to compete, along with 2021 winner Sean Becker or Oroville. Tyler Thompson of Harrisburg, Oregon continues his search for his first NARC win but still sits third in points and leads the NARC Rookie of the Year chase. Fresno's Caeden Steele, a first-time NARC winner in May, had an impressive run at last Saturday's Petaluma event and will look to build off of that this weekend. Other drivers expected to race this weekend include two-time series champ Dominic Scelzi of Fresno, Lemoore's Gauge Garcia, Billy Aton of Benicia, Fresno's Mariah Ede, Dominic Gorden of Clovis, and Tucson's Nick Parker. The Howard Kaeding Classic was first held in 2011 with Evan Suggs picking up the win. NARC great Jonathan Allard won the next two. Kyle Hirst leads all drivers with three wins in the prestigious event. Colby Copeland and current World of Outlaws standout Buddy Kofoid each have single HK victories as well. FAN INFO Ocean Speedway is on the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, located at 2601 E Lake Ave. Friday's show will have sport mods and hobby stocks in action also. On Saturday, NARC will be joined by the BCRA/WMR midgets, hobby stocks and modifieds. Qualifying will get underway at 5:30 p.m. with opening ceremonies at approximately 6:00 p.m. The pit gate opens at 2:00 p.m. After the races on Friday there will be an "After Party" on the track grounds. There will also be the Howard Kaeding Luncheon on Saturday that will see proceeds benefiting the NARC Benevolent Fund. This is all part of the Howard Kaeding Classic weekend at Ocean Speedway. This weekend's races are of the "Cooler Weather Tour," a stretch of races for NARC all taking place at tracks along the California coast and all expecting to have more comfortable coastal temperatures while the California interior bakes in summer heat. July 26th will see NARC make its annual visit to Santa Maria Speedway, before the series returns to Ocean Speedway on August 2nd for the Johnny Key Classic. Placerville, CA…Jake Andreotti, Justyn Cox and Andy Forsberg electrified the Placerville Speedway crowd on Saturday during the annual John Padjen Kids Bike Night event. When all was said and done it was Andreotti standing tall in victory lane to earn his first career Winged 360 win at the track. Fellow victors on John Padjen Kids Bike Night presented by the Pizza Factory were Anthony Slaney with the Kings Meats Ltd. Late Models, Nick Baldwin with the Red Hawk Resort + Casino Pure Stocks and Shawn Whitney with the Nor-Cal Dwarf Car Association. The 25-lap Thompson's Dealerships Winged Sprint Car finale began with Andreotti climbing out front aboard his Buchanon Auto Electric/ Lucas Oil No. 7p mount. The track surface had a little character mixed in on this night and made for some fantastic racing all evening. Point leader Andy Forsberg hounded the leader as he looked to find a way by the Castro Valley wheelman. Clarksburg's Justyn Cox started from ninth and picked his way forward in impressive fashion, moving into third on lap nine. With the contest winding down it became an exhilarating three-car battle up front for the win. The three competitors skillfully navigated every part of the quarter mile during what was regarded as the race of the season on the red clay. Forsberg was able to slice his way to the lead on lap 19, only to have Andreotti come back the following circuit. As the three drivers completed lap 21, Cox slipped to the inside of Forsberg for second and then went to work on the leader. Cox gave him everything he could handle, but Andreotti hung tough to accept the Darin Stahl checkered flag. Cox, Forsberg, Placerville's Shane Hopkins and Tony Gomes rounded out the top five. Finishing sixth through 10th were Chance Grasty, Cole Schroeder, 16th starter and Pizza Factory Hard Charger Austin Wood, Jett Barnes and Kenny Wanderstadt. In the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stock finale, it was Placerville's own Tyler Lightfoot who jumped out front at the waving of the green flag. Six-time track champion Nick Baldwin showed his muscle early on though and rocketed to the point on lap four. Baldwin would ultimately lead the remaining distance for his 37th career win at the track. By doing so, he takes over sole possession of third all-time in division history. Woodland's Scott Grunert made his return to the track and had an excellent race with Lightfoot over the waning stages. Grunert crossed the stripe in second ahead of Lightfoot, Michael Murphy and Ryan Peter. Fourth of July winner Rod Oliver blasted to the lead at the start of the Kings Meats Ltd. Late Model main event. He soon had company in the form of reigning track champion Anthony Slaney, who made his return to the track after becoming a father recently. Slaney charged to the point on lap six and never looked back to dominate the race for his sixth career Placerville Speedway win. Oliver, Matt Micheli, Ray Trimble and Matt Davis followed hm across the line. The Nor-Cal Dwarf Car Association main event was all about Lotus driver Shawn Whitney, who claimed another victory at his home track. Around the midway point he had to withstand a challenge from legendary driver Mike "Spanky" Grenert who led lap eight. Whitney got back by the following circuit, however, and pulled away from the field to score the gold. Lincoln's Dylan Shrum had an exciting feature after spinning out while running third on lap eight. He would proceed to carve his way back forward and score a solid runner up finish. Brandon Aylesworth, Corey Eaton and Dan Geil completed the top five. Placerville Speedway returns to action this coming Saturday July 19th with round two of SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek. Joining the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour at the "Gold Pan Rampage" are the Mountain Democrat Mini Trucks. - John Padjen Kids Bike Night next up for Placerville Speedway Saturday
Placerville, CA…The El Dorado County Fairgrounds based Placerville Speedway is excited to host John Padjen "Kids Bike Night" presented by the Pizza Factory this Saturday July 12th. All kids 11 and under receive free admission in the stands on Saturday. As is tradition, children in attendance are invited to race their bikes on the track following heat race competition. Those competing in the races must wear a helmet. MTFX Graphics will also be hosting hot wheels races for the kids from 4-6pm behind the turn four bleachers. If you're looking for a delicious pre-race meal, make sure to stop by the Pizza Factory of Placerville, Pleasant Valley, Pollock Pines, Cameron Park, Auburn, Colfax, Rocklin or Ione to support this Saturday's presenting sponsor. Outstanding and piping hot pizza, lasagna, freshly made salads and much more are offered at the Pizza Factory. "This is always a tremendous show for the families to come out and enjoy a night of racing at," commented track Promoter Scott Russell. "Kids Bike Night has been one of the long-standing events here and we're happy to allow those 11 and under into the races for free on Saturday. When it comes to the future of our sport the younger generation is extremely important, so we hope everyone can bring their kids and maybe even some of their friends this weekend." This Saturday is also our way to remember former track Promoter John Padjen, who passed away in December of 2021. It was Padjen's idea that brought about Kids Bike Night, which continues to be a mainstay at Placerville Speedway. "John always had Kids Bike Night at West Capital Raceway, so he decided to bring that over to Placerville and Chico when he started running both venues," said past Placerville Speedway Promoter Alan Padjen. "The bike nights have always been a hit with the families. It's great that Placerville Speedway continues that tradition and it's a perfect event to remember my dad at." In the early 1980's, John Padjen came aboard Placerville Speedway to help rescue the community icon that was beginning to struggle in the way of management efforts. Already a successful motorsports promoter in Sacramento, Dixon and Chico, Padjen moved in and helped mold the foothill race facility into the successful, competitive track it is today. Padjen established a consistent Saturday night program to improve safety and visibility for both drivers and fans. Tackling the high banked quarter mile this Saturday will be the Thompson's Family of Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Cars, the Kings Meats Ltd. Late Models, the Red Hawk Resort + Casino Pure Stocks and the Nor-Cal Dwarf Car Association.
