- Hangtown 100 caps Placerville Speedway season Friday & Saturday
Placerville, CA…The USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midgets are primed to take on Placerville Speedway this Friday and Saturday for the 5th running of the Hangtown 100. Two night ticket packages and single night tickets are available by visiting https://www.eventsprout.com/event/psr-111524 or by purchasing at the gate on race day. The event puts a wrap on the 2024 season at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds based Placerville Speedway. Last year saw Elk Grove's Kyle Larson claim his second Hangtown 100 championship, while winning the feature each night. Larson also scooped up the inaugural running of the event in 2019. This Friday's opening night main event will hand out $5,000-to-win, with Saturday offering $10,000-to-win the much anticipated 100-lap contest. "The Hangtown 100 has become a marquee event to close out the season at Placerville Speedway," commented track Promoter Scott Russell. "The USAC National Midgets have put on some breathtaking shows here the last several years and we expect more of the same this weekend. Hopefully the fans will come out and support two great nights of racing this Friday and Saturday." The USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midgets are set for a busy West Coast swing that gets underway at Placerville Speedway on Friday. Locust Grove, Oklahoma driver Daison Pursley brings the series point lead into the Golden State as he searches for a USAC championship, before hitting the Kubota High Limit Racing trail next year. Behind Pursley in the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Championship standings are Xtreme Outlaw & POWRi Midget champ Cannon McIntosh, Ryan Timms, 2024 USAC National Sprint Car titlist Logan Seavey and Zach Daum. Seavey has put together a fantastic season across all three USAC National divisions and will be gunning for the Hangtown 100 this weekend in front of his home state fans. Fresh off a tremendous rookie campaign with the World of Outlaws, California native and fan favorite Buddy Kofoid is geared up to return home for the Hangtown 100. Kofoid captured the event in 2022 and hopes to do so again after locking up Rookie of the Year honors last week with the Outlaws. Former winner of the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial, Corey Day of Clovis, will be another California favorite on hand. Day has had a phenomenal season including wins at the Trophy Cup, the Super Dirt Cup and the Gold Cup Race of Champions among others. Placerville Speedway has also hosted a pair of Avanti Windows & Doors USAC Western States Midget events this year, with wins going to Hanford's Michael Faccinto and Bakersfield's Cade Lewis, who went on to wrap up the series title in October. More drivers looking to bring home the Hangtown 100 will include Justin Grant, Tanner Thorson, Spencer Bayston, Emerson Axsom, Chris Windom, Shane Golobic, Tyler Courtney, Tanner Carrick, Kaylee Bryson, Drake Edwards and others. The Wingless BCRA Lightning Sprints will complement the event each night. The division has provided entertaining racing during the Hangtown 100 over the last few years. Langley, BC driver Levi Klatt brought home the big win during the finale last season. ๐ง๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ป๐ณ๐ผ: The front gate will open at 3pm each night with Coors Light/ Coors Banquet Happy Hour taking place until 6pm. - Stockton Dirt Track caps SCCT season on Saturday
Stockton, CA…What started in April will come to a grand conclusion this Saturday when the Sprint Car Challenge Tour tackles the Stockton Dirt Track for the 41st annual "Tribute to Gary Patterson." The November 2nd showdown will be a can't miss affair with both the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour and the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series crowning champions in the unique Stockton victory corral. The Tribute to Gary Patterson has also morphed back into a double header weekend with Winged 360 Sprint Cars, the Hunt Wingless Tour and Dwarf Cars launching things on Friday night. Plenty of camping is available on the fairgrounds for those who want to make a weekend out of it. "We look forward to GP weekend this Friday and Saturday," said Stockton Dirt Track Promoter Tony Noceti. "We continue doing work on this track to try and give teams the best possible surface. Alan Handy has been here massaging it and I feel like we should have two great nights of racing." Andy Forsberg heads into Saturday hoping to wrap up his second Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour title. If he can do so, it would mark championship 28 for the Auburn driver. Forsberg claimed a SCCT victory at the Adobe Cup in Petaluma and looks to finish off the season in that same fashion. El Cajon resident Braden Chiaramonte goes into Stockton gunning to lock up second in the standings, as well as the Garth Moore Insurance Rookie of the Year Award. The 17-year-old has been impressive this year while gaining laps with the Tiner-Hirst Ent. team. - SCCT set for penultimate race of the season Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway
Tulare, CA…Fresh off an exciting race in Hanford last week the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour ventures back down to the Central Valley for the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial this Saturday at Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway. It will be the penultimate show of the SCCT campaign and the first visit to Tulare since 2022. The action-packed evening of racing is the final opportunity for drivers to get laps at Thunderbowl Raceway prior to the 30th Trophy Cup next week. The October 12th event also showcases the NARC 410 Sprint Cars, plus RaceSaver Sprints, and has long been a cornerstone on the Thunderbowl Raceway schedule. Chris Faria was an up and coming driver who was the youngest of five children to Danny Sr. & Arlet Faria. He grew up on their farm in Tipton and was known as the prankster of the family. Chris unfortunately lost his life at the age of 21 during a farming accident and his memory has been kept alive with a memorial race at the Thunderbowl Raceway ever since. Brian was the oldest of the five Faria children and was taken from us in January of 2006 during an accident while driving on a highway. Brian enjoyed helping out with the track preparation at the Thunderbowl, as he drove the water truck and the grader among other things. "We look forward to hosting the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial on Saturday," track GM Josh Miller said. "It's always one of the big events at Thunderbowl Raceway and having three Winged Sprint Car divisions should make for a great night of racing. We hope everyone will come out on October 12th and then stay for the Trophy Cup next week." With two races left in the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour season Auburn's Andy Forsberg continues to maintain a large 114-point advantage at the top of the standings. The 48-year-old veteran brought home a consistent top-10 last week in Hanford and hopes for more of the same this Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway. Leading Garth Moore Insurance Rookie of the Year contender Braden Chiaramonte will get some valuable laps at the Thunderbowl on Saturday in prep for next weeks Trophy Cup. The 17-year-old goes into the Faria Memorial ranking second in the SCCT points and has shown the ability to be aggressive when needed, a perfect recipe for success in Tulare. Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield, Placerville's Shane Hopkins and Roseville's Colby Copeland round out the top-five in points going into the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial. Ranking six through 10 are Livermore's Travis Labat, Hanford's Michael Faccinto, Yuba City's Seth Standley, Aromas' Justin Sanders and Mesa, Arizona's Corbin Rueschenberg. Tickets and Details: Adult Grandstand tickets for the Faria Memorial/ Trophy Cup Tune-Up at Thunderbowl Raceway this Saturday cost $40, while Bleacher tickets are $35. Senior and child pricing is also available. Tickets can be purchased at the gate on race day. The front grandstand gate will open at 4pm with the pit meeting held at 5pm and cars on track at 5:30. Hot laps, Sierra Foothills Wine Services qualifying, and racing will follow. The muffler rule will follow track protocols at Thunderbowl Raceway, which mirrors the NARC 410 Series rule. Flowmaster, SpinTech, Schoenfeld 14272735-78 or Extreme mufflers only. The Stone Chevrolet Buick GMC Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds on the corner of Bardsley and K Streets at 620 South K Street Tulare, California 93274. - Andy Forsberg strikes for SCCT Adobe Cup glory at Petaluma Speedway
Petaluma, CA…Auburn's Andy Forsberg has always been fond of competing at the sticky and hooked up Petaluma Speedway. On Saturday night the SCCT point leader put together a dominating performance in the feature, racking up $5,500 by way of winning the 13th annual Adobe Cup. The now 27-time Sprint Car champion piloted the Pacific Highway Rentals/ Pit Stop USA No. 92 to his 5th career Sprint Car Challenge Tour victory, placing him into a tie with Colby Copeland for fourth all-time. "That track was certainly right up my alley in the main event," Forsberg said on the front stretch. "I know that some of the newer generation of drivers don't particularly enjoy a track like that, but it brought back a lot of memories of the old days. I took an extra lap at the end just to soak it all in. My guys gave me an amazing car there, so I really have to thank them and all the fans for coming out to support the Adobe Cup." Ocean Speedway champion Caleb Debem jumped out front at the waving of the green flag in the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour finale. Debem set the pace up front until Forsberg blasted by for the lead on lap four, which he would never relinquish. Following that Forsberg had his way with things and had to survive an excessive amount of restarts, but each time hit his marks to perfection. The recently crowned Placerville Speedway champ rocketed away to bring home the $5,000 grand prize, along with the $500 Shop Kyle Larson Bonus as a full-time car winning the feature. Dunnigan youngster Luke Hayes put together the finest night of his Sprint Car Challenge Tour career, winning the High Sierra Dash and scoring a runner up finish in the main event. Roseville's Sean Becker did a fantastic job in the 35-lapper to carve his way from 16th to third, rounding out the podium. It marked his fourth top-five effort of the year with SCCT. Jodie Robinson looked impressive for the second week in a row and brought home a fourth-place result at the checkered flag. The Roseville driver had battled her way to second at one point on a restart, only to have a slowdown negate the beautiful move. Placerville's Shane Hopkins continued his strong 2024 campaign by earning the Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Award with an exquisite run from 19th to fifth. The 30-year-old set fast time to begin the night, however, a seventh-place finish in his heat race set him farther back to start the main. Completing the top-10 in the Adobe Cup finale were John Clark, Kurt Nelson, Dustin Freitas, Bradley Terrell and Brad Bumgarner. Nelson was another driver who had a solid night, but experienced tough luck in the main event. The past Ocean titlist had raced his way into second on lap 23, only to have a lapped car spin in front of him with three circuits remaining. Nelson had nowhere to go and brought out a caution but was able to salvage a seventh-place effort at the end. The Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour heads next for Hanford's Kings Speedway on Friday October 4th. The event marks the 39th running of the Cotton Classic. - SCCT season resumes with 13th annual Adobe Cup in Petaluma Saturday
Petaluma, CA…For the third consecutive season the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour is primed to sanction the $5,000-to-win "Adobe Cup" at Petaluma Speedway this Saturday September 21st. The evening of family fun at the 13th annual Adobe Cup marks the final season appearance for SCCT at Sonoma County's longest running entertainment venue. Following this Saturday's outing the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour will have just three events remaining in 2024. Adding to the excitement at the event will be the annual Bob McCoy Super Stock Memorial. The familiar Petaluma 3/8-mile oval routinely produces thrilling wheel-to-wheel racing, as lapped traffic can create some of the most frenetic competition of any venue on tour. Please note the facility features an earlier start time, with the Pit Meeting at 4pm and cars on track at 4:30. "We look forward to having the Sprint Car Challenge Tour as part of the 13th annual Adobe Cup this weekend," said Petaluma Promoter Rick Faeth. "Petaluma Speedway doesn't hold as many Winged Sprint Car shows nowadays, but the fans have certainly flocked to the track when we have. The Bob McCoy Memorial has also become a big stock car race, so we think this will be a superb two division program for everyone to attend." This Saturday's Adobe Cup marks the first event for the Sprint Car Challenge Tour since finishing up Speedweek in July. Fresh off wrapping up the Placerville Speedway title last week, Andy Forsberg heads into Petaluma Speedway holding a 74-point lead in the SCCT standings. The Auburn driver is searching to bring home the Russell Motorsports Inc. Double Down Bonus if he can also secure the tour championship. Forsberg, who captured SCCT Speedweek, will be in search of his first Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour victory of the season to try and fend off young Braden Chiaramonte for the title. The El Cajon driver had spent time atop the standings, until encountering issues during SCCT Speedweek. Chiaramonte claimed a SCCT triumph at Antioch in June and will look to grab another at the Adobe Cup. Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield, Roseville's Colby Copeland and Placerville's Shane Hopkins round out the top five in points going into the Adobe Cup. Hopkins has been one of the more consistent drivers throughout California when it comes to Winged 360 racing this year. More drivers looking to take on the famed Petaluma gumbo will include Livermore's Travis Labat, Roseville's Sean Becker and Jodie Robinson, Cotati's Jake Haulot, Sebastopol's Bradley Terrell, Windsor's John Clarke, Chico's Brad Bumgarner, Dunnigan's Luke Hayes and others. Tickets and Details: Adult tickets at Petaluma Speedway this Saturday September 21st cost $25 while seniors, juniors and military with ID are $22. Kids 6-11 will be $10, with five and under being admitted free. Tickets can be purchased via https://www.myracepass.com/tracks/1869/tickets/1416915 or at the gate on Saturday. Seating is general admission. The pit gate will open at noon, with the front grandstand gate opening at 4pm. The pit meeting will be held at 4pm with cars on track at 4:30. Hot laps, Sierra Foothills Wine Services qualifying, and racing will follow. - Andy Forsberg Claims 10th Placerville Speedway Track Championship
Andy Forsberg made a little history on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway as he claimed his 10th Career Track Championship putting him in a tie for most all time with the legendary Brian Crockett.
- Tony Gomes Wins Placerville Speedway’s Big Trophy Night To Clinch 3rd in Final Track Point Standings
Heading into Saturday night's regular season finale at Placerville Speedway, Tony Gomes entered the night in shouting distance of the track championship, but focused on what he could control and he did just that as he picked up his second feature event of the season.
- Tony Gomes races to Coors Light Big Trophy Night win/ Andy Forsberg claims 10th Placerville title
Placerville, CA…Modesto's Tony Gomes tallied his second Thompson's Winged Sprint Car win of the season on Saturday at Placerville Speedway, while Auburn's Andy Forsberg secured his 10th career track championship. Fellow winners on Coors Light Big Trophy Championship Night included Ray Trimble with the Mountain Democrat Late Models, Nick Baldwin with the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks and Austin Struthers with the Mountain Democrat Mini Trucks. Martinez driver Anthony Slaney locked up the Late Model title, with Baldwin earning his sixth Pure Stock championship. Mike Miller also claimed his third Mini Truck title on Saturday. The 25-lap Sprint Car feature began with Jodie Robinson, Andy Forsberg and Tony Gomes battling up front. Multiple different leaders were seen in the main event, with Forsberg up front until Robinson drove by early on. Several cautions plagued the contest over the first five laps, but in between them the action continued to be hot and heavy. Restarts made things interesting, and Gomes soon found his groove, getting into second on lap nine. He then made the move by Robinson on lap 10 and looked to pull away from the pack. Placerville's Shane Hopkins was also on the charge from his 12th starting spot. Hopkins ran the bottom side to perfection and grabbed second on lap 16. Lapped traffic late in the going made things hectic for Gomes, which allowed Hopkins to close the gap. Gomes hit his marks however and crossed under the Ron Stahl checkered flag for victory over Hopkins, Robinson, Bubba Decaires and Jake Andreotti in the top-five. Forsberg crossed the stripe in sixth and it was good enough to wrap up championship 10 at Placerville. Decaires finished second, just seven markers back, while Gomes missed out on the title by only nine points. Ray Trimble started from the front row in the Mountain Democrat Late Model feature and led every step of the way en route to victory. Dan Brown Jr. came home in second, followed by Matt Micheli, Rod Oliver and Tyler Lightfoot. Anthony Slaney had battled his way towards the front at one point until getting crossed up while making a bid for the lead and ended up eighth. He finished up with five wins this season en route to the title. With the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks, it was Sacramento's Jason Poppert leading the way early on. Poppert has shown immense speed this season and looked to park it in victory lane on Big Trophy Night. Nick Baldwin hounded Poppert though and on lap 10 made a beautiful outside move to grab the point. Baldwin led the remainder for his seventh win of the year to lock up the title. Poppert, Ryan Peter, Tyler Lightfoot and Kevin Jinkerson rounded out the top-five. The final Mountain Democrat Mini Truck race of 2024 was all about Austin Struthers, who picked up his first win of the season. Paige Miller, Luke Costa, Paizlee Miller and Bobby Clark completed the top-five. Mike Miller battled towards the front until encountering issues that left him with a seventh-place result. It was still good enough to win his third track title. - Austin Wood races to initial Sprint Car victory at Placerville Speedway
Placerville, CA…Fourteen-year-old Micro graduate Austin Wood has been nothing short of impressive during his rookie campaign at Placerville Speedway. After showing consistency all season, the Sacramento driver was able to park it in victory lane for the first time in his young Sprint Car career on Saturday night. Sharing victory lane on Anrak Night at the Races were Cade Lewis with the USAC/BCRA Midgets, Jake Morgan with the BCRA Lightning Sprints and Nick Baldwin with the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks. The 25-lap Thompson's Family of Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Car main event started off a little ragged, but once things got going, it was Austin Wood setting the pace over Ashton Torgerson. A multi-car incident on lap six then saw Torgerson get caught up in it, forcing him to the rear of the field. Numerous slowdowns were seen in the feature, but Wood hit his marks on each restart. Suisun City youngster Chance Grasty gave chase after the leader and looked very strong all night long. Grasty had to fend off several challenges from Lincoln's Tanner Carrick as the race wound down as well. With a couple circuits remaining Grasty closed fast on Wood and made it a battle for the lead. The final lap saw the duo race nose to tail down to the checkered flag, which saw Wood edge out Grasty to claim the big win. Carrick crossed the stripe in third, followed by point leader Andy Forsberg and 17th starter Tony Gomes, who was the Hard Charger after winning the B-main. Rounding out the top-10 were Bubba Decaires, Dustin Freitas, Camden Robustelli, Izaak Sharp and Jake Haulot. The USAC Western States/ BCRA Midget 30-lap main event began with TJ Smith jumping out to the early lead. Tanner Carrick was doing double duty in both the Midget and Sprint Car on Saturday, and quickly found the high side to his liking. Current USAC point leader Cade Lewis slow rolled the bottom to perfection however, as he sliced his way into the top-spot on lap eight. After that it was all Lewis up front who cruised to the Ron Stahl checkered flag ahead of Carrick, Smith, Brandon Wiley and Drake Edwards. Fair Oaks racer Jake Morgan made a start with the BCRA Lightning Sprints on Saturday and drove to victory during their annual Tracy Taylor Memorial. Hunter Kinney stalked him every step of the way but couldn't make the pass and settled for a runner up finish. Tyler Gerdes, Matt Land and Bradley Schmidt completed the top-five. The Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks continued their trend of providing exciting racing in the main event. Jason Poppert has shown speed at times this year and led the opening stages of the feature. Current runner up in the standings Kevin Jinkerson then carved his way by for the top-spot on lap seven. Poppert stayed close however, as the action was hot and heavy throughout the pack. The complexion of the race changed when contact ensued between Jinkerson and Poppert while battling for the point on lap 17. Jinkerson ultimately came to a stop, while Poppert was put to the rear in a rough driving call. Five-time track champ and point leader Nick Baldwin now found himself out front and he would lead the remainder for win number six on the season. Tyler Lightfoot, Wayne Trimble, Tommy Sturgeon and David Silva rounded out the top-five. - Jock Goodyer surges to Nor*Cal Posse Shootout triumph
Placerville, CA…After driving back from Washington on Friday in time for this weekends Nor*Cal Posse Shootout, Australian 360 Sprint Car champion Jock Goodyer put on a clinic Sunday night, scoring his initial Placerville Speedway victory. The Launceston, TAS, Australia wheelman piloted the Kevin Kozlowski owned Works Limited No. 57w, wrenched by Paul Silva, to an $8,000 score during the 7th running of the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout presented by Berco Redwood. Sharing victory lane on Sunday night was Roseville driver Brent Steck, who earned a $5,000 win in the High Sierra West Coast Wingless Shootout portion of the evening. The 35-lap Winged 360 Sprint Car feature started out with Fresno's Caeden Steele leading the opening circuit, until Goodyer made the move under him to grab the point. At that same time Steele's car broke loose and he looped it to a stop, bringing out a caution with one lap down. Once out front Goodyer had his way with things and withstood multiple restarts, keeping the rest of the field at bay. He went on to accept the Ron Stahl checkered flag for his first career victory in the United States. Placerville's own Shane Hopkins continued his fantastic season with another strong run after starting from position number 11. The driver of the High Sierra Industries No. 21 made several precision-based moves to charge forward and grab second from Monrovia, Indiana's Justin Peck with three laps remaining. Hopkins closed the gap slightly but couldn't do anything with Goodyer as the race wrapped up. Lincoln's Tanner Carrick put together a solid run and was able to nip Peck at the line to round out the podium. After competing with Kubota High Limit Racing on Saturday at Skagit Speedway, Peck made the 13-hour drive south to compete for owner Clayton Snow. He was rewarded with a fourth-place finish, while 14th starter Chance Grasty rounded out the podium. Completing the top 10 were Dylan Bloomfield, Cody Key, 18th starter Colby Copeland, Sean Becker and Tony Gomes. Copeland's run from 18th to eighth netted him the $425 Hard Charger Award in memory of Davy Thomas. A total of 31 Winged Sprint Cars returned to cap the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout presented by Berco Redwood. Caeden Steele began the evening by earning fast time with a lap of 10.714. The High Sierra West Coast Wingless Shootout main event saw a very popular winner in the form of Brent Steck, who battled to the lead on lap six and withstood a late challenge by Shawn Jones. Dylan Newberry jumped out front early and paced the opening laps until Steck was able to slice his way past. The bottom side was the preferred groove for the wingless warriors however, Shawn Jones gave it a try upstairs. Picking off cars one by one the San Jose driver carved his way into second with six laps remaining and then took his shot on a restart. Jones blasted to the high side to grab the top-spot and lead lap 22. Jones then caught the cushion just hard enough though to turn the car sideways and send him over the banking for a yellow. Steck then led the final few circuits to grab the triumph over Newberry, Saturday winner Shane Hopkins, Anthony Bruno and Heath Holdsclaw. Twenty-one Wingless Sprints returned on Sunday with Newberry setting fast time to begin the program. Placerville Speedway now gears up for the penultimate championship point race of the season this Saturday September 7th. Anrak Night at the Races will feature the Thompson's Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Cars, the USAC Western States Midgets, BCRA Lightning Sprints and the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks. - Jock Goodyer Win the Nor-Cal Posse Shootout
Jock Goodyer from Launceston, Tasmania picked up his first feature win in the United States Sunday night during the Nor-Cal Posse Shootout at Placerville Speedway.
- Willie Croft strikes for victory on night one of the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout
Placerville, CA…Making the final Placerville Speedway starts of his career this weekend, Colfax driver Willie Croft proceeded to make it count by racing to victory on opening night of the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout presented by Berco Redwood. Sharing victory lane on Saturday during the High Sierra West Coast Wingless Shootout portion of the night was Placerville's own Shane Hopkins. The 30-lap Winged 360 Sprint Car finale began with Roseville's Colby Copeland putting the Van Lare Steering Repair No. 5v out front. Dash winner Croft stalked his every move however, as close battles were seen all throughout the field. The complexion of the race then changed on lap 11 though, as the yellow flag waved for a car slowing down the back stretch. Unfortunately for Copeland, heartbreak city occurred when he got upside down in turn three along with Ryan Rocha while avoiding the slowing car. Both drivers were okay but done for the night. Croft now found himself out front with Modesto's Tony Gomes moving into the runner up spot. Several movers and shakers were seen in the main event, including Shane Hopkins, who charged from 16th to third by lap 12. Gomes kept leader Croft withing his sights and at one point, made the move to slide in front of him entering turn three. The veteran driver stayed poised though and sliced back to his inside, maintaining the point. A final caution then occurred with three circuits remaining. On the restart Croft blasted away from the pack to accept the Ron Stahl checkered flag aboard his Grinders Automotive/ Rudeen Racing No. 29. It marked his fifth career Winged 360 Sprint Car triumph at Placerville Speedway, ironically tying him with Gomes and fellow veteran Jimmy Trulli, who also wraps up his driving career this season. Gomes crossed the stripe in second, with Hopkins finishing off a stellar run from row eight to round out the podium. Hanford's Michael Faccinto arguably had the run of the night though. After winning the B-main, the driver of the F&F Racing x1 rocketed through the field in aggressive fashion to finish in fourth place after starting from 21st. Redding's Max Mittry also capped a solid night by rounding out the top-five. Completing the top-10 on opening night of the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout presented by Berco Redwood were Lincoln's Tanner Carrick, Australian Jock Goodyear, Suisun City's Chance Grasty, Dunnigan's Luke Hayes and El Cajon's Braden Chiaramonte. A total of 37 Winged Sprint Cars competed on Saturday. Yuba City's Seth Standley earned his first career Placerville fast time award to open the night with a lap of 10.650. The 25-lap main event for the High Sierra West Coast Wingless Shootout started out with Roseville's Josh Young climbing into the lead. Young had earlier set fast time and captured his heat as he worked on a clean sweep of the evening. Several stoppages were seen in the feature, which never allowed drivers to get into a constant flow. Shane Hopkins though had found something through the middle of the speedway and began to march his way forward. The 30-year-old took over second on lap eight and then came after the leader. After hounding Young for the top-spot Hopkins took command on lap 12 and never looked back. The driver of the Cliften & Warren Feed/ MP Operations No. 21 pulled away for his fourth career Wingless Sprint Car win at Placerville Speedway. Young, DJ Johnson, Brent Steck, Dylan Newberry, Eathon Lanfri, Peter Paulson, Tyler Cato, Shannon Newton and Josh Gillis rounded out the top-10. The Nor*Cal Posse Shootout presented by Berco Redwood finishes tonight at Placerville Speedway. - Placerville Speedway hosts two nights of Sprint Car racing Labor Day Weekend
Placerville, CA…One of the biggest double headers of the Placerville Speedway season converges this Saturday and Sunday, when Russell Motorsports Inc. showcases the $8,000-to-win Nor*Cal Posse Shootout/ Legends Weekend presented by Berco Redwood. The Labor Day weekend event is the only two-night Winged 360 Sprint Car show of the season at Placerville Speedway and has provided no shortage of thrills over the last handful of years. The Winged 360 Sprint Car portion of the event this Saturday August 31st will hand out $5,000-to-win, while Sunday's finale on September 1st dishes out a solid $8,000-to-win. Sharing the stage each night with the Winged 360s will be the High Sierra West Coast Wingless Shootout for Spec Sprints. Opening night will offer $2,000-to-win/ $200-to-start, while the finale pays out a stout $5,000-to-win/ $300-to-start. The Nor*Cal Posse Shootout presented by Berco Redwood is entering its seventh edition at the high-banked quarter mile. Previous winners include Cory Eliason, Sean Becker, Rico Abreu, Shane Golobic, Tanner Carrick and Michael Faccinto, who snagged last year's opening night before the finale fell victim to rain. Special trophies are being produced and the winner on Sunday will also go home with a commemorative belt buckle that has become a staple at the event. "The Nor*Cal Posse Shootout presented by Berco Redwood is an event that we continue to try and build each season," commented Placerville Speedway Promoter Scott Russell. "I know that we'd like to see it become one of the marquee shows in Northern California. We've had some great racing all year and should be in for a can't miss weekend at the shootout." The double header will also showcase the rich history of Placerville Speedway like everyone has come to love during Legends Night. The event had become so popular however, that it's now coined as Legends Night(s) "The Epic Double." Several names from the days gone by will be in attendance with numerous vintage cars on display. The restored machines will also take some laps on the red clay for old times' sake. "As always we want to send a huge thank you to Rick Hirst for everything he does in restoring these old race cars and gathering the legendary names for the event," Russell said. "It's always a special night and now it's going to be a memorable weekend."
