- Eddie Tafoya Jr. Ready for Perris' Biggest Sprint Car Night of 2025
Chino Hills, CA — September 7, 2025 — After a weekend off following three straight nights of racing in Northern California, Eddie Tafoya Jr. returns to action this Saturday, September 13th, when Perris Auto Speedway hosts its biggest sprint car program of the season. Tafoya will pilot his familiar #51T in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series that sharing the spotlight with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars in a rare and exciting open-wheel doubleheader. The 27-year-old Chino Hills, California racer comes into the event with momentum, fresh off his best finish of 2025 — a fourth-place run in the Ultimate Sprint Car Series at Petaluma Speedway on Labor Day. In just his second career start with the USCS, and his first appearance at Petaluma since 2019, Tafoya charged forward from seventh on the grid to secure the top-five result on the tight 3/8-mile oval. Earlier that evening, Tafoya was third-fastest in his qualifying group, seventh overall of the 20 cars on hand and recorded a third-place finish in his 10-lap heat race. "The night went well," Tafoya said of Petaluma. "The track changes a lot. You kind of start tightening up the car and then go back to where you started for the main event. Just had to make sure the car was drivable after the two previous nights." The strong Petaluma outing came on the heels of Tafoya's participation in the historic reopening of Calistoga Speedway over Labor Day weekend. Racing returned to the iconic half-mile for the first time in six years in front of sellout crowds. On night one, Tafoya timed in eighth-fastest among 34 cars, finished fifth in his heat, and transferred through the B-main before ending the A-main in 16th. Night two saw him post the 18th-quickest qualifying lap, grab a second in his heat, and lock into the feature, where he placed 18th. "I was pretty excited to go back there," Tafoya said of his return to the big half mile. " I am always happy to go to big fast racetracks. Unfortunately, the results didn't necessarily pan out how we wanted but we still had fun up there. The first night I had a good starting spot in eighth. I just think I was way to tight. I was trying to compensate on how slick the dirt was getting but then it ended up getting rough so I was kind of caught in a sticky situation. I was just stuck." "The second night, it felt a lot better in the heat race and I almost won it," Tafoya continued. " In the main, we had a right rear shock let go. So I was all over the place and on the verge of being out of control, so I brought it in early." Tafoya, the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year, will now look to build on that experience as he tackles one of the biggest stages of the season at Perris Auto Speedway. "I really do not think about it once I am inside the racecar," Tafoya said when asked about racing in front of big crowds. "It is definitely cool to see afterwards when the people come down and appreciate the things we do. We are definitely small compared to a lot of other motorsports so its nice to have some recognition." - Grant scores record-breaking win in USAC Sprint Rod End Supply Dirt Duel at Lucas Oil Speedway
WHEATLAND, MO. (Sept. 6, 2025) - Justin Grant made USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship history on Saturday night by winning the Rod End Supply Diamond Dirt Duel at Lucas Oil Speedway. Grant, a native of Ione, Calif., took the lead on lap eight and never surrendered it, outlasting Jake Swanson for the 63rd series win of his career. It sent him past Dave Darland for the most wins in tour history and was his 100th career feature win across all USAC divisions, just the eighth driver to reach the century mark. "I don't really know what to say," Grant said in victory lane. "I'm really excited and I can't thank everybody enough. I absolutely love driving sprint cars, particularly non-wing sprint cars. And I love USAC and I love everything about what we do. To be the all-time winner is just absolutely incredible. I've poured my life into this sport and into this discipline and am trying to get better and better at it. "It almost felt more special to tie Dave Darling than to pass him. He's an absolute legend and a hero. I shared something on Facebook (Saturday) about him going into the Indiana Sports Hall of Fame and wanted to make note that we're all now reaping the benefits of the things that Dave Darling did for our sport." The 30-lap feature saw the fourth-starting Grant close in on Wesley Smith, who started on the pole and led early, when caution flew on lap four after Clinton Boyles spun on the backstretch. Smith had a good restart and opened an eight-car-length lead, but by lap six Grant once again was knocking on the door with Swanson joining the battle in third. Grant was able to take the lead sliding past Smith on the inside out of turn four to complete lap eight. Grant was off the running from there, leading by more than a second as he caught lapped traffic by lap 12. As Smith and Swanson dueled, Grant was driving away up front. But a lap-16 caution for a pair of cars off the pace bunched the leaders for another restart. Wyatt Burks worked his way into third on the restart with Swanson applying pressure to Grant. Swanson kept chipping away running a lower groove as the laps clicked by and the two dealt with slower cars. Grant was able to hang on and capture his milestone victory - then climb gingerly from the car to celebrate. He suffered a broken left foot in a racing accident on July 27 at Lawrenceburg Speedway and drives with a specially-fitted boot on the surgically repaired foot. "I can't thank all the people behind me enough. My wife Ashley, my parents, my grandma," Grant said. "Everybody that supports me. It hasn't been an easy weekend. We've been changing everything and working my guys to death and they're about sick of me, but it pays off when you win for them." Grant paid special tribute to car owner Kevin Birchmeier. "We've been through some really high highs and low lows together," Grant said. "I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Kevin. He supports me 100 percent." Swanson, of Anaheim, Calif., said he felt like he had a shot at tracking down Grant. While proud of his strong run, it also was frustrating. "I was driving my (butt) off, but he did a good job and didn't make any mistakes," Swanson said. "Obviously, he's one of the greatest to do this. It stings. I felt we had the best race car." Burks came home in third with Michel Moles fourth and Logan Seavey fifth in USAC's first appearance at Lucas Oil Speedway in 19 years. Logan Seavey set a new track record for non-wing sprints for his eighth fast-time of the season award on the series with a lap of 14.928 seconds. Brady Bacon (15.159, Sept. 8, 2006) held the previous record. USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship season points leader Kyle Cummins started 11th and finished ninth. Simon wins INEX Legends feature: Trenton Simon of Joplin led all 20 laps to grab the INEX Legends feature win, beating Austin Azeez by 2.6 seconds. It was Simon's 14th win of the season. Simon had built up a 3.5-second lead over Azeez when caution on lap nine slowed the action and took away his big margin. It didn't take long for Simon to check out again after the restart and he dominated the remaining 11, caution-free laps. "It was really a matter of finding out what the track was. I hadn't been here in a while," Simon said. "We made adjustments as the night went on and it paid off in the end." Jay Reynolds finished third with Justin Comer fourth and Jett Stovall fifth after starting 16th. The Legends portion of the program was sponsored by Outlaw Plumbing. LUCAS OIL SPEEDWAY UNOFFICIAL. - USAC Sprint leader Cummins aims for more Lucas Oil Speedway magic at Rod End Supply Diamond Dirt Duel
WHEATLAND, MO. (Sept. 4, 2025) - When Kyle Cummins makes just his second appearance at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday, the Indiana native can only hope things go as well as his previous time on the Wheatland dirt. It was 2018 when Cummins drove to victory in the non-winged portion of the Jesse Hockett-Daniel McMillin Memorial. That remains one of the memorable wins that Cummins, 38, has picked up during his successful open-wheel racing career. "We ran like third or fourth on our prelim night and then won the finale," Cummins said. "I have not been there since, but definitely looking forward to seeing how things go this time. That's a very, very nice place with everything. The pits, the grandstands. It's a nice facility. "We didn't take many notes back in the day, but hopefully we have a little bit of thought. At least I've ran there once so I know a little bit how the track works." Cummins continues his pursuit of a USAC AMSOIL National Sprint championship on Saturday when USAC returns to Wheatland for the first time since 2006 for the Rod End Supply Diamond Dirt Duel. The 30-lap feature will pay $6,000 to the winner. Cummins, a second-generation open-wheel racer from Princeton, Ind., leads the championship standings by 258 points over Mitchel Moles of Raisin City, California. Logan Seavey, of Cutter, California., is third 276 behind Cummins. After a fast start to the season, with a feature win in the opener at Volusia Speedway Park and five feature wins in the first 11 events, Cummins has put himself in great position to win his first USAC championship in his second season with Petty Performance Racing. "We started the season really strong and kind of had some bad luck here and there," Cummins said. "We've got the monkey off our back a little bit of late and found some stuff with the car. We're on car number three now. We've tore up some stuff and kind of learning this one. "All in all we're pretty excited about how things are going and looking forward to finishing these last 15 races strong and trying to get a couple of more wins and have a good finish to the season." Following in the footsteps of his father, Mark Cummins, since opening in open karts at age nine, Kyle Cummins developed into one of the top sprint car racers in the Midwest. He's the all-time winningest driver of the Midwest Sprint Car Series and a five-time champion in that series. It wasn't until a fast start to the USAC National Tour in 2023 that Cummins began to think about chasing a national championship. He faded that season and realized that upgrades were needed to pursue such an endeavor. "The last two years we've decided to run for it and be fully prepared, have all the stuff ready," Cummins said. "We built this new team with Petty Performance and that's been the goal. Last year was kind of a building season, to take some notes and do a lot of trial and error, working some stuff with the car to give us a really good baseline. "We started out this season really strong and that's been the goal from the get-go, from at least 2024 that was the plan, to win the championship." Cummins said the competition level on the USAC National series is rugged. There's no such thing as resting on your laurels, even with a sizable points lead. "It seems like the top 8-10 guys could win any night. It's definitely tough," Cummins said. "Everyone has the same goal, they all want to win. It's like all sports, any one can win on a given night and you just give it your best shot and see how things go. "We have a decent-sized lead. We just need to finish out strong and not let up and hopefully the last couple of races we won't have any pressure and can just go out and have fun." Cummins won the 2018 Hockett-McMillin by leading all 30 laps of the feature, outlasting Wyatt Burks and Colton Cottle for the win. While he didn't know Jesse Hockett well, that win remains a special one. "I know a lot of people have come there trying to win it and for us to show up the first time and win it, that was pretty exciting," Cummins said. "To kind of look back over your career and see some of those more prestigious wins, that makes it a little more special." INEX Legends in for Super Stocks as support class: A late schedule switch will see INEX Legends running as support class on Saturday. In April, Lucas Oil Speedway had the opportunity to add the USAC National Sprints and, at that time, it was decided that the Hickamo Super Stocks would be the support division. This was scheduled not knowing it conflicted with Nevada Speedway's Lehmann Memorial. Lucas Oil Speedway feels it's important for all local tracks to be mindful of their neighbors' special events, so the Hickamo Super Stocks will not run this Saturday with those competitors encouraged to support Nevada Speedway. - It's a Simpson sweep as Ron Jenkins Memorial wraps at Lucas Oil Speedway
WHEATLAND, MO. (Aug. 30, 2025) - Chris Simpson of Oxford, Iowa, polished off a flawless weekend on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway, completing a sweep of the 11th annual Ron Jenkins Memorial. Simpson backed his Friday-night victory with another Comp Cams Super Dirt Series feature win, this time leading the final 30 of 40 laps, outdistancing Clay Stuckey. Simpson earned $12,000 for the win, which included a $2,000 bonus courtesy of Mary Jenkins Holt in honor of the late Ron Jenkins, builder and owner of the original Lucas Oil Speedway. Including a pair of $500 fast-time bonus awards plus a $100 series bonus each night for fast time, Simpson took home $20,200 for the two nights. "I just want to thank everybody at Lucas Oil and the Jenkins family for the extra money they put up," Simpson said. "It means a lot. I go to work every day, from 7 until 3:30 and go out and work on my car afterward. "I don't do this for a living. To be able to come down here ... I've had one other week when I brought home $20,000 close to home." Daniel Adam beat Simpson to the lead at the start, the first time in two nights that Simpson had not set the pace. Adam rolled away to nearly a one-second lead before Simpson began to reel him in, drawing within .215 seconds by lap 10 with Terry Phillips another 1.2 seconds behind in third. Simpson took the lead on lap 11, sliding past Adam on the inside coming off turn four. Just five laps later, Simpson had sped away to a two-second command over Adam with Clay Stuckey taking third away from Phillips. "The top was better. I could see that and he had a pretty good cushion," Simpson said of Adam's early lead. "I knew I had to get out there and ride and just follow him. I tried to keep the car a little straighter than he was so I wouldn't burn up the right rear." As action remained caution-free and the track took on rubber, Simpson upped his cushion to 2.4 seconds by the halfway mark on lap 20. Adam was able to cut into the margin a bit, but Simpson continued to sail along with a comfortable margin. The first caution came on lap 33 as fourth-running Phillips slowed in turn four. That took away Simpson's 1.8-second lead over Adam with seven to go, putting some mystery into the late stages of the event. Simpson had a flawless restart and Adam slipped a bit, allowing Stuckey to get into second and R.C. Whitwell went to third. Simpson's lead was .935 seconds with three to go when Adam slow in turn two with a flat tire, bringing out a caution. Stuckey, of Shreveport, La., said he thought he might have a shot at Simpson the restart, but knew it had to happen quickly. "I thought I could catch him. There was a second there I was slowly creeping up on him," Stuckey said. "I maybe had five laps left on my right rear tire. You could tell with about four laps to go that it was done, but with the weekend I've had I'll definitely take second." Completing his big weekend, Simpson finished it off after the restart and beat Stuckey by .793 seconds at the finish. Whitwell was third with Cole Wells of Aurora fourth and Mason Oberkramer fifth after starting 14th. A trio of southwest Missouri drivers joined Wells with top-10 finishes: Dillon McCowan of Urbana (seventh), Ryan Johnson from Aurora (eighth) and Payton Looney of Republic (ninth). Simpson set fast qualifying time for the second straight night, with a lap of 16.091 in Group B. Simpson also went on to win his heat race to clinch the pole position for the feature. Frye picks up Super Stocks win: An old pro celebrated in victory lane for the first time in long time as Late Model legend Bill Frye of Greenbrier, Ark., held off Taylor Carver for the $1,000 Hickamo Super Stocks feature win. Frye, driving a car owned by regular-season Super Stocks track champion Tim Brown, led all but the opening lap. The former MLRA and MARS champion was driving the car to help his long-time friend Brown dial it in for the Super Stocks Big Buck 50 Presented by Whitetail Trophy Oct. 10-12. "I think the last race I won was a motorcycle hare scramble," a laughing Frye said in victory lane. He added that the Street Stock drove "to me, just like a Late Model. Man, it felt just like one. It's been 40 years since I really drove a Street Stock and I don't remember it being nothing like this. "This is a lot better car than I had. I want to thank Tim and Staci Brown for the opportunity to do this. I tried to back out of it and he kept begging. I was like, 'OK, I'll come do this' and I'm so glad I did." Frye was seventh on Friday in the feature, his first action since driving one event in a Late Model in 2022. Prior to that, he had last raced in 2019 in the Modified division. Frye took the lead on lap two, but Carver soon was applying pressure with Johnny Fennewald third. It stayed that way until lap 10 when five cars spun in turn three to bring out the race's fourth caution. With everyone staying mostly attached to the bottom groove the last half of the race, Frye held off Carver by .260 seconds or just over one car length for the win. Lap-one leader Johnny Coats was third with Ted Welschmeyer fourth and Matthew Kay fifth. Emma Davis earns Show-Me Vintage Racers win: Ninth-starting Emma Davis of Kansas City took over the lead with three leads to go and held on to earn the Show-Me Vintage Racers feature win, her first in her second season of racing with the SMVR. "The track was great. The car just handled great," Davis said in victory lane. Davis' parents, Beth and John Martin, also were in the SMVR field. John finished seventh in the feature and Beth was 12th. Emma Davis started racing at the age of six in go-karts, then moved to E-Mods and Lightning Sprints. "My parents raced with me tonight and I couldn't do it without them, or without the support of my wonderful husband," Davis said. "I have a great support system." Jason Isabell went from sixth to first on the opening lap and led until lap eight, when seventh-starting Ken Brown took over the top spot. Caution flew on lap nine and, while the track was being cleared, Isabell's car lost power to end his night. That elevated Mark Evinger into second with six to go with Davis third. Davis made the pass for the lead headed into turn three on lap 13 and she held on for the win, beating Evinger by .346 seconds. Damon Clevenger was third with Brown fourth. - Macri Tops Three-Way Battle For Zemaitis Tribute At Williams Grove - Drevicki scores USAC East 360s
Mechanicsburg - Anthony Macri came out on top of an electrifying three-way battle for the sprint car win at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, taking $8,000 for his fourth oval victory of the season in the Zemaitis Tribute Race. In support action, Steve Drevicki took the win in the USAC East 360 sprint feature for his third career oval win in the division. Danny Dietrich took the lead at the start of the 25-lap John and Pee Wee Zemaitis Tribute feature, beating Parker Price Miller back to the stripe with control. After starting fifth, Chase Dietz motored up to second on the opening lap and began his quest for the lead with Macri moving by Price Miller for third on the ninth circuit. Dietrich entered the rear of the field on the 11th tour and immediately began to struggle putting cars a lap down. For several laps Dietrich was bottled up behind Brady Bacon and this allowed both Dietz and Macri to close in. The slickening track proved dicey and when Dietrich missed his entry into the first turn on lap 19, Dietz immediately drove to his inside while Macri blasted to the outside trying to swoop by both pilots. However Macri only came up with second as Dietz took the point. For the next four laps Macri slammed his car onto the high cushion as he entered the first corner in an effort to muscle by Dietz while Dietrich lurked within striking distance. Lap after lap Macri would draw beside the leader but couldn't quite muster enough power to complete the pass. And then on lap 23 the lead trio staged a crowd-pleasing three-car battle for command with Macri changing lanes to the inside, Dietz in the middle and Dietrich up on the cushion in the second corner. Macri came away the pacesetter as the trio pushed themselves off of the turn and onto the backchute while Dietrich also got by Dietz. Once at the front, Macri would drive to the win by .369 seconds over Dietrich, who was racing for his second win in a row. Dietz settled for third followed by Troy Wagaman Jr. and Price Miller. Sixth through 10th went to Brock Zearfoss, Austin Bishop, Freddie Rahmer, Logan Rumsey and Ryan Newton. Heats went to Price Miller, Dietz and Wagaman Jr. while Kody Hartlaub won the consolation race. Cameron Smith set fast time with a lap of 17.278 seconds. The win was the 14th of Macri's career at Williams Grove and his 12th overall of the season. Chris Allen Jr. led the first 13 laps of the 25-lap USAC East 360 feature before sixth starter Steve Drevicki of Reading drove into the lead. Drevicki took the win by .542 seconds ahead of Christian Bruno. Allen Jr. ended up third followed by Kyle Spence and Steve Wilbur. Heats went to Joey Amantea, Bruno and Ed Aikin. Ron Helmick took the consolation race. Feature Finishes 8/29/25 410 sprint cars, 25 laps: 1. Anthony Macri, 2. Danny Dietrich, 3. Chase Dietz, 4. Troy Wagaman Jr., 5. Parker Price Miller, 6. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Heads North for Labor Day Weekend Tripleheader
Chino Hills, CA — August 28, 2025 — For the first time since 2021, Chino Hills, California, sprint car racer Eddie Tafoya Jr. is heading to Northern California for three big races over Labor Day weekend. The now-veteran driver will kick things off this Saturday and Sunday, August 30th and 31st, competing in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series 14th Annual Louie Vermeil Classic at the legendary Calistoga Speedway. On Labor Day Monday, he'll make the short trip to Petaluma Speedway to battle with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series. The weekend at Calistoga is one of the most highly anticipated events on the West Coast in 2025. Shuttered since 2019, the picturesque half-mile clay oval seemed doomed until the city purchased the fairgrounds property, bringing racing back to the historic venue. For 28-year-old Tafoya, it will be just his second trip to Calistoga. The last time he raced there came on September 1, 2019 — the track's final event before the shutdown — during the season he earned USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year honors. That night he qualified 16th in a 24-car field, started 16th, and finished 15th in the main event. His most recent outing at Petaluma Speedway came in 2021, when he placed 11th in the USAC/CRA main event on the tight 3/8-mile clay oval after returning from a summer racing stint in Indiana. Tafoya heads north after an impressive performance two weeks ago at Perris Auto Speedway. A violent qualifying crash left his car badly damaged, but he and his crew went to work immediately, thrashing in the pits to get the #51T ready for his heat race. Forced to start at the rear of both his heat and the 30-lap main due to not recording a qualifying time, Tafoya charged forward spectacularly. After starting eighth in his eight-lap heat race, he advanced to fourth in the heat. In the main, he started 24th, steered his car impressively through the pack, and avoided the on-track chaos. All told, he passed 16 cars in the feature to finish 8th and capture the In Memory of Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award. Fans unable to make the trip to Northern California can catch both nights of the Louie Vermeil Classic live on Flo Racing, with coverage beginning at 5:00 p.m. PDT. Tafoya can be followed on Instagram at @eddietafoya51. The Tafoya Racing team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for their continued support of the 2025 season. WHEATLAND, MO. (Aug. 16, 2025) - The 14th annual Impact Signs, Awnings & Wraps Open Wheel Showdown was particularly memorable for Scotty Milan. The 22-year-old from Fort Collins, Colo., earned his first career POWRi 410 Winged Sprint feature win Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway, taking command midway through the 30-lap feature. Also posting feature wins Wesley Smith (POWRi WAR/MWRA Wholesale Batteries Challenge Series and Jack Wagner (POWRi 305 Winged Sprints). Milan, who had started 13th, gradually sliced his way through the field before catching and passing the leader on lap 16. He went on to beatSean Rayhill by just over two seconds in the 30-lap main event. "I finally won," Milan said excitedly in victory lane. "All year has been kind of rough. We have good runs and then instant bad luck. I'm just excited to win and coming from 13th it wasn't easy. We had the car on a rain. I was like 'holy crap, I'm moving.' First POWRi Sprint Car win, pretty sweet." Doney led in the early going after starting from the pole, but Sean Rayhall was giving him pressure just a half-second behind seven laps in. One lap later, the first caution flew with Doney holding a .856-second lead. Rayhall lost second on lap 10 as Miller slid around him as Doney led by just under one second. Doney's lead was a half-second at the halfway mark on lap 15 and one lap later, Milan used the low groove to get past Doney and take the lead. Milan wasted no time building a 1.1-second lead by lap 20 over Miller as Doney slipped to third. Miller pulled even with Milan on lap 23, but was unable to complete the pass as Milan fought back and pushed his lead to a second with five laps to go. Caution flew on lap 25 for a spin in turn two, setting up a five-lap shootout as Milan led Doney and Miller. Milan was up to the challenge, drawing away late to take the win by two seconds over Rayhall. "I know we're new here, but this 14 team, we have a lot of grit," Rayhall said of his team. "I'm just grateful to be here." Doney was third with Clinton Boyles fourth and Miller fifth. Smith captures WAR/MWRA Sprints feature: Wesley Smith of Nixa led all the way and pulled away late to claim the POWRi WAR/MWRA Sprint feature, beating Wyatt Burks for the victory. "The competition level around here, I hope the fans can understand that it's top-notch," Smith said. The pole-starting Smith grabbed the lead at the start and was in front by 1.5 seconds ahead of Dakota Earls when caution appeared on lap two. After the restart, fifth-starting Anthony Nicholson took over second as Smith continued to lead, opening a 2.8-second gap by lap eight. Another caution, this time on lap nine, erased a three-second command for the leader over Burks, who started sixth. Those two dueled it out after the restart, but Smith started to reclaim some breathing room by lap 13 of the 25-lapper and his lead was two second with five to go. Smith kept pulled away from there and beat Burks by 3.1 seconds at the finish. Jack Wagner wound up third with Samuel Wagner fourth and Nicholson was fifth. "Coming here to Lucas, I'm glad I could make it look that way," Smith said of the decisive triumph. "Especially with the big USAC show and the Jesse Hockett-Daniel McMillin Memorial coming up. This place is a tough joint to get around. It's hard on tires and hard on engines, but that makes it all the more fun when you can win." Wagner wins POWRi 305 Winged Sprints: It was all Jack Wagner in the finale of the program as he lead all but two laps in the POWRi 305 Winged Sprint feature. Wagner, of Lone Jack, Mo. started on the pole and drove away to a two-second advantage over Danny Smith by lap 10, the halfway mark of the race. But the race took on a new complexion at that point when the first caution flew, taking away Wagner's big lead. The field ran just one lap before another caution. It was a battle after the restart, as Danny Smith used momentum for a pass off turn four to take the lead on lap 14. Wagner didn't give way, though, reclaiming the top spot on lap 16 coming off turn two. Wagner held on from there and be ninth-starting Landon Muehlberger to score the win by a 1.9-second margin. "I about lost it there to Danny Smith," Wagner said. "I knew better than to try and get this thing wound up for sound. It's roll around the bottom. It is technical. You have to make sure this car is pedaled in and out and don't slip the tire. I just didn't know you have to be that slow about it." Jake Martens was third with Smith fourth and Levi Hinck fifth. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Set to Return to Action at Perris, Calistoga, and Placerville
Chino Hills, CA — August 4, 2025 — After a brief summer break, Eddie Tafoya Jr. is ready to get back behind the wheel when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series returns to Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday, August 16th. The race marks the beginning of a busy late-summer schedule for the driver of the Specialty Fasteners #51T. Following the Perris event, Tafoya and the team will head north for one of the most anticipated weekends in recent sprint car history — the grand re-opening of the legendary Calistoga Speedway on August 30th and 31st. The doubleheader promises to be a major highlight on the USAC/CRA calendar. Then, on September 1st, Tafoya will cap off the Labor Day holiday weekend by competing with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series at Placerville Speedway. Prior to the break, Tafoya raced at his home track, Perris Auto Speedway, on July 19th — just 10 days after celebrating his 28th birthday. Though the final result wasn't what he'd hoped for, the Southern California veteran showed speed and poise throughout the night. He qualified a strong seventh fastest out of 21 cars with a lap of 16.875. In his heat race, the 2018 PAS Young Gun Champion and 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year started and finished fourth in a stacked field. That set him up in the seventh position for the 30-lap main event. In front of the second-largest crowd of the season, Tafoya jumped into a fierce battle for fifth place early in the main. Showing the speed to challenge for a top-four spot, his momentum was unfortunately stalled by lapped traffic. After clearing a slower car, Tafoya's night took an unfortunate turn when he came to a stop in turn one, ending his charge. Despite the setback, Tafoya's performance showed his car and confidence are in the right place heading into the late-season stretch. "I just have to eliminate the mistakes and figure how to get around traffic when it gets slick like that," Tafoya said. "I was dealing with traffic and switching lines every lap. The lapper would go to where I switched to. I was just kind of going back and forth. I finally got a good run down the front straight. I just held it on a little longer than I should have just to get around the lapper. Then I got in the slick and locked up the brakes and slid to a stop." Forced to restart at the back of the field with only limited laps remaining, the odds were stacked against him. But Tafoya wasn't done. He mounted a determined comeback, charging through the field and clawing his way back to a 10th-place finish at the checkered flag — a clear indicator of the team's pace and persistence. "I thought for a second there we were going to start on the front row again (after qualifying), but we missed it by .01," Tafoya commented about the night of racing. "That definitely could have changed the way that main event went for us." "I am happy with the speed, and I think I have been driving good," he continued. "I just have to focus and put it all together on the same night. I have been trying to put myself in a good position and we have been doing that lately. Part of it is mental and part is car set up and stuff like that. Knowing that you have enough to be up there, we have definitely been showing that lately." Fans can follow Tafoya on Instagram eddietafoya51. Tafoya and the #51T team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for supporting their 2025 racing endeavors. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Looks for First 2025 Win at Perris Auto Speedway This Saturday
Chino, CA - July 17, 2025 — Coming off his best Perris Auto Speedway finish of the 2025 season, a fifth-place result on June 21st, Eddie Tafoya Jr. will return to the Riverside County half-mile clay oval this Saturday night, July 19th. Spectator gates at the 29-year old speed plant will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first race will be at 7:00. For Tafoya, who recently celebrated his 28th birthday, it will be his fifth start of 2025 at Perris. In the first four races at the track this year, he has achieved three top-10 finishes. Besides his fifth-place showing last month, he came home eighth at the track on April 5th and was ninth in the annual Salute to Indy at the end of May. His fifth-place run last month equaled his performance at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway on February 22nd. The only race at Perris this year that he did not finish in the top 10 occurred on March 1st, when his belts came loose in the car, and he finished 13th. Before the 30-lap main event last month, Tafoya qualified sixth fastest in the 20 car field. He then placed fourth in his 10-lap heat race. The Chino Hills, California resident started on the pole and led the first seven laps of the main event. He ended up taking fifth after a tough battle for positions five through 10 late in the race. - USAC’s Mid-Summer in Mid-America! Midgets Tackle 4 Races, 3 States July 8-12
It’s back to Mid-America for the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship in July. USAC Mid-America Midget Week presents Great Plains bullring USAC action between July 8-12 across three states with four events in a span of five nights across Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska.
- CARRICK COLLECTS FIRST USAC WESTERN STATES MIDGET WIN AT PLACERVILLE

- Shane Hopkins, Nick Baldwin and Rod Oliver earn 4th of July wins in front of large crowd at Placerville Speedway
Placerville, CA…Shane Hopkins has shown the impressive ability to pass cars over the last few seasons with more hard charger awards than anybody at Placerville Speedway. Starting on the front row last night, however, he battled Tony Gomes around the midway point of the feature, before taking the lead en route to his third career Winged 360 Sprint Car triumph at the track. Hopkins' win came aboard the familiar High Sierra Industries/ Anrak Corp. No. 21 mount. Sharing victory lane during the Independence Day showcase were Oakley's Nick Baldwin with the Red Hawk Resort + Casino Pure Stocks and Yuba City's Rod Oliver with the Kings Meats Ltd. Late Models. Despite having no fireworks due to the Esparto warehouse tragedy, the Placerville Speedway faithful filled the grandstands for what was an excellent night of racing and celebrating America. The 30-lap finale for the Thompson's Dealerships Winged Sprint Cars saw last week's winner Tony Gomes jump out front. The Modesto driver had won his heat race earlier out of starting position number four, which gave him the pole for the main event. With gorgeous temps during the evening for Independence Day, the racing remained hot and heavy with several intriguing battles taking place throughout the field. A lap 12 double file restart set up a big moment in the race, as Shane Hopkins stayed right with the leader. Hopkins blasted to the outside through one and two and grabbed the lead down the backstretch. Gomes wasn't done yet though and returned the favor on the next lap to move back out front. As he rounded turn two on lap 14 however, he got over the edge and dropped to third, with Hopkins and Austin Wood getting by. Hopkins drove a great race over the remaining distance and withstood a closing Gomes over the final couple circuits to accept the Ed Entz checkered flag. Gomes and Wood kept fans on the edge of their seats over the waning laps as they fought hard for the runner up. Behind Hopkins the top five read as Gomes, Wood, Lemoore's Gauge Garcia and Tucson, Arizona's Nick Parker. Rounding out the top 10 were Dustin Freitas, Dylan Bloomfield, 15th starting Chance Grasty, Isaiah Vasquez and 17th starting Braden Chiaramonte. With Andy Forsberg suffering a DNF we have a new point leader going into tonight, with young Austin Wood now up front. Forsberg is just four points back in second, while Gomes finds himself within six markers of the lead. Wood earned another ADCO Driveline Fast Time Award to begin the evening on Friday, pacing the 33-car field in time trials. The Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks once again provided thrills in their main event, especially over the initial 10 circuits. Wayne Trimble, Kevin Jinkerson, Nick Baldwin and Ryan Peter all ran tightly together up front. The quartet put on a tremendous show for the fans with some good, clean, hard racing. On lap nine Baldwin grabbed the lead and would never look back on way to his 36th career Placerville Speedway Pure Stock win. In doing so, he tied Dennis Ahart for third all-time at the track. Kevin Jinkerson, Ryan Peter, Tyler Lightfoot and Wayne Trimble finished second through fifth in the 25-lap contest. The Kings Meats Ltd. Late Model main event was all about Rod Oliver, who raced away to claim his third career Placerville Speedway victory. Chris McGinnis led the opening two laps, before Oliver got by to grab the point. After that Oliver was in cruise control up front and crossed the stripe for the win ahead of Matt Micheli, Tyler Lightfoot, Matt Davis and Mcginnis. Placerville Speedway finishes off Independence Day weekend on Saturday July 5th with the inaugural Triple Crown presented by All Coast Construction and Avanti Windows & Doors. On tap will be the Thompson's Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Cars, the Ultimate Sprint Car Series, the USAC Western States Midgets and Wingless BCRA Lightning Sprints. - Esparto Facility explosion pauses Fireworks show at Placerville Speedway / RACES ARE STILL ON
Placerville, CA…Russell Motorsports Inc. has made the announcement that due to yesterday's unfortunate fireworks facility explosion in Esparto, this Friday's fireworks display following the races has been canceled. The race program, however, will still be contested with the Thompson's Winged 360 Sprint Cars, Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks and Kings Meats Ltd. Late Models taking to the track. "The company that was supplying and housing our fireworks that were to be used on Friday night, was part of yesterday's unfortunate explosion and fire in Esparto," commented Placerville Speedway Promoter Scott Russell. This devastating incident resulted not only in the complete loss of our fireworks supplier's inventory, but more importantly, the loss of lives of individuals who have long been part of bringing celebration and joy to communities across California, including ours. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families, friends, and team members affected by this heartbreaking event. We understand how much our community looks forward to the Independence Day fireworks at the speedway each year. It is a tradition we cherish, and one we hoped to continue in 2025. However, out of respect for those lost and due to the unforeseen loss of available inventory, we have no choice but to cancel this year's fireworks portion of the event. As noted, the July 4th race program will continue as scheduled. We thank our fans for their understanding and continued support, and we encourage everyone to keep the families impacted by the Esparto tragedy in their hearts during this holiday. - Grants gets 1st Fremont win as USAC returns
FREMONT, Ohio - Justin Grant is having a great month of June. The Ione, California driver drove to his third consecutive USAC Amsoil Sprint Car National Champion Series win Saturday, June 28 on Sandusky Bay Remodeling Night at Fremont Speedway presented by Gill Construction. Grant inherited the lead when Robert Ballou, who had a nearly three second lead, flipped on lap 13. Grant held off many challenges from defending USAC sprint car champion Logan Seavey to score his sixth wingless feature win of 2025 and his 60th career USAC sprint car victory. It's his 10th overall USAC win this year as he leads the National Silver Crown and Midget series points and sits second in the sprint car division. Should Grant be able to pull off winning all three USAC titles he would garner $500,000. It was Grant's first career win at Fremont as USAC returned to "The Track That Action Built" for the first time in 22 years. Current USAC sprint car point leader Kyle Cummins finished third with Mitchel Moles and early race leader Chase Stockon rounding out the top five. "To be honest every time I came in I told my guys I feel terrible. I don't feel good. I didn't feel like I was putting great laps together. I was just trying to keep myself hard to pass. I kind of was in a little bit of conserve mode there at the end. I just really didn't feel good all night. Jeff Walker and Kevin, Jerry, Nick and NOS Energy Drink and MPV Logistics, Indy Custom Stone, all the employees at TOPP Industries that makes it possible for me to drive this thing…I'm just so appreciative," said Grant. Fremont's Paul Weaver, a five time Fremont Speedway track champion, took advantage when early race leader JJ Henes spun on lap five in the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 feature. Weaver, who came into the night uncharacteristically winless in 2025, drove to his 82nd career win at Fremont, placing him second on the track's all-time win list. Zeth Sabo, Bryan Sebetto, Jamie Miller and Dustin Stroup rounded out the top five. "We tried a newer car this year and last year I was used to running used tires and these newer compounds have thrown me for a loop. We went back to the old car and the track got slick for us tonight," said Weaver beside his Steve Brown's B&B Drain Service, Hampshire Racing Engines, M&L Excavating, Seagate Sandblasting backed #1W. In the USAC D2 Thunder Midgets, Zach Wigal lead the first 15 laps before Luke Hall took over, leading until just five laps to go when Bryce Massingill took over. Massingill held off several challenges from Wigal to claim his third win of the season. Wigal, Hall, Jakeb Boxell, and Tyler Nelson rounded out the top five. Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, July 5 for Family Fun Night with the Attica Fremont Championship Series 410 and 305 sprints and dirt trucks in action. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Matches Season-Best with 5th-Place Finish at Perris Auto Speedway
Chino, CA - June 26, 2025 — Eddie Tafoya Jr. matched his best finish of the 2025 Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series season last Saturday night by placing fifth at Perris Auto Speedway. The strong showing marked his third consecutive top 10 finish in the prestigious 21-year-old open-wheel series. Piloting the immaculate Specialty Fasteners #51T, Tafoya set the tone early by qualifying sixth fastest against a stacked field. He backed up that performance with a fourth-place result in the third eight-lap heat race on the breezy evening. Thanks to his stellar qualifying run, the Chino Hills, California native earned the pole position for the 30-lap main event. The 2018 PAS Young Guns Champion and 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year wasted no time asserting himself, charging into the lead as starter Steve Russell waved the green flag. Tafoya, who turns 28 on July 9th, set a blistering pace and led the opening seven laps before slipping to second. As the race settled into the gritty, elbows-up action that Perris is known for, he remained in the top five and became embroiled in a fierce battle for position. His determination paid off, as he held strong to secure fifth at the checkered flag, matching his February 22nd result at Mohave Valley Raceway. While Tafoya is not chasing points in 2025, his consistency continues to impress. Saturday's finish vaulted him to 12th in the championship standings—remarkable considering he has entered only seven of the first ten events on the calendar. Fans can follow Tafoya on Instagram eddietafoya51. Tafoya and the #51T team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for supporting their 2025 racing endeavors. - Career Of Mitch Smith Honored Friday With 37th Smith Memorial - Williams Grove again honors legendary wheelman as part of Speedweek
Mechanicsburg - When Williams Grove Speedway races this week on July 4, it will do so for the 37th year in a row in honor of a famed sprint car great, the late Mitch Smith of Linglestown. The oval will host the J & S Classics 37th annual Mitch Smith Memorial as part of Pennsylvania Speedweek on July 4 at 7:30 pm. And the race to honor Smith will pay a lucrative $20,000 to win out of a total purse worth almost $50,000. Richard D. "Mitch" Smith was the original "Mr. Excitement" of Pennsylvania sprint car lore. At Williams Grove Speedway alone he ended his four-decade long career in 1978 with 27 sprint car wins and nine super modified victories. But overall on his career, his checkered flags added up to 179. The name Mitch Smith became cemented nationally when in 1971 the "Little Guy" from Linglestown trounced the boasting stars of the United States Auto Club, not once, but three times when they towed into the region. In 1971, USAC was to sprint car racing what the World of Outlaws is today. USAC competition was the way to Indy. The USAC circuit groomed its drivers to sit on the Indy 500 starting grid. And start they did. But on June 19 and September 25 at Williams Grove Speedway in 1971 and again on July 17 at Selinsgrove Speedway, Mitch Smith used a rarely doled out temporary racing permit issued by USAC to just a few local drivers to beat the traveling band badly. The USAC stars were furious. Protests were lodged and tear-downs were performed. All was legal. Smith had beaten the unquestionable best in the sprint car business not once, not twice but three times. The word went out. "The Linglestown Leadfoot" Mitch Smith, had trounced USAC in Central Pennsylvania. Smith retired from the sport in 1978 and in 1988 at the age of 58 was felled by a massive heart attack. In 1995 Mitch Smith was inducted posthumously into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa. It is the legacy left behind and the impact that Smith had on the sport in the region and at Williams Grove Speedway that the oval honors again this year with the running of the 37th annual Mitch Smith Memorial on Friday night. Anthony Macri is the defending winner of the prestigious Mitch Smith Memorial. Lance Dewease is the winningest driver in Smith Memorial history, having scored wins in 1992, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2018 and in 2021. Fred Rahmer has four Smith Memorials to his credit along with the late Greg Hodnett. Stevie Smith won the inaugural event in 1989.

- Chad Trout Gets First Williams Grove Sprint Win - Kevin Thomas Jr. Wins USAC
Mechanicsburg - Chad Trout of Dover got his elusive first career 410 sprint car win at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, taking home over $5,600 for the victory. The longtime oval supporter already owned four limited sprint wins at the track. In the USAC Eastern Storm 410 sprint car feature, Kevin Thomas Jr. of Cullman, Alabama, took the $6,000 win to score his third such career triumph at the speedplant in USAC action. The 25-lap 410 sprint car main would go non-stop with Trout leading every lap from the pole position. Second starter Austin Bishop chased the leader all through the event and although he was able to narrow Trout's advantage in traffic he was never able to mount a challenge for the win. Ryan Newton raced hard with Bishop for the second spot for the first half of the race before settling into third spot. Hard racing for the fourth spot took place during the final 10 laps as Troy Wagaman Jr., Brock Zearfoss, Justin Whittall, Lance Dewease and Freddie Rahmer all tried to secure the position, running just car lengths apart as they traversed the oval. Zearfoss held the spot for several laps and even challenged Newton for third at times but eventually fell victim to 10th starter Wagaman's advances. In the end Trout scored the win over Bishop, Newton, Wagaman and Zearfoss. Sixth through 10th went to Whittall, 17th starter Dewease, Rahmer, Chase Dietz and TJ Stutts. Heats went to Trout, Bishop and Newton with Jordan Thomas scoring the last chance race. The start of the 30-lap USAC main was marred by two red flags. The first occurred before a lap could be recorded for a flipping JT Ferry in the third turn. And on the ensuring attempt at a first lap, a double flip in the third turn by Abby Hohlbein and Mike Haggenbottom stopped action once more. Luckily all drivers escaped injury. Thomas led the first 21 laps after action got going with Jake Swanson chasing in the second spot. But Swanson lost the position with eight laps to go when USAC point leader Kyle Cummins of Princeton, Indiana, raced into second. Cummins was unable to challenge Thomas for the win however 10th starter Briggs Danner proved a challenge to Swanson late in the race after taking third with four laps to go. Thomas scored the win by .397 seconds over Cummins, Danner, Swanson and Justin Grant. Sixth through 10th went to Steve Drevicki, Hayden Reinbold, Mitchel Moles, Gunnar Setser and Kale Drake. Heats went to Daison Pursley, Justin Grant and Robert Ballou. Moles set fast time with a lap of 19.246 seconds. Feature Finishes 6/20/25 410 sprint cars, 25 laps: 1. Chad Trout, 2. Austin Bishop, 3. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Returns to His Home Track, Perris Auto Speedway, This Saturday
Chino, CA - June 19, 2025 — Popular sprint car racer Eddie Tafoya Jr. will return to action this Saturday night, June 21st, when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series visits Perris Auto Speedway. The historic half-mile clay oval in Riverside County is considered the home track for both the 21-year-old series and the Chino Hills, California native. Saturday's event was originally scheduled to be Tafoya's sixth series appearance of the year at Perris. However, two events earlier in the season were canceled due to rain. That means this weekend marks just the fourth 2025 outing at the track, located less than 30 minutes from Tafoya's home. Tafoya, who drives the eye-catching #51T sprint car, recorded his best Perris finish of the year on April 5th when he placed eighth. He backed that up with a solid ninth-place run in the prestigious Salute to Indy on May 24th. His top finish overall in the USAC/CRA Series so far this year came at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway, where he finished fifth. Saturday's race will be Tafoya's 14th start of the 2025 season, spanning the USAC/CRA Series, the USAC National Sprint Car Series, and the Ultimate Sprint Car Series. His most recent appearance came two weeks ago when the Ultimate Series competed at Bakersfield Speedway. Tafoya recorded another top 10 finish when he placed ninth that night. Though Tafoya is not chasing points full-time in 2025, he has entered six of the first nine USAC/CRA races. Despite missing three events, he still sits 15th in the championship standings — a testament to his consistency and competitive performances. To see Tafoya in person on Saturday, spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m., and the first green flag will wave at 7:00. For more information, visit www.perrisautospeedway.com Ticket Information 13 and over: $35 Kids (6-12): $10 Children 5 and under: FREE Fairgrounds Parking: $20 Perris Auto Speedway is located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds at 18700 Lake Perris Drive in the City of Perris. - Price Miller pays tribute to Jamie Miller with Waynesfield All Star win
WAYNESFIELD, OHIO - You couldn't have scripted what happened Thursday, June 19 at Waynesfield Raceway Park any better. Bernie and Betsy Steubgen, owners of Indy Race Parts, wanted to pay tribute to one of their dear friends, Jamie Miller, who owned sprint cars over the years and who passed away in January. The Jamie Miller Memorial race was created and took place at Waynesfield as part of the Overwatch Precision Ohio Sprint Speedweek Presented by Gill Construction featuring the Napa Auto Parts All Star Circuit of Champions Presented by Valvoline. The feature event was paced by the legendary Jac Haudenschild who drove Jamie's cars off and on for several years. The outcome? Bernie and Betsy's car, driven by Park Price Miller of Kokomo, Indiana, snagged the win worth $7,506 - the six was Miller's sprint car number. Price Miller took the lead from Kalib Henry on lap six and held off a late race charge from Danny Dietrich in lapped traffic to earn his fourth career All Star win. Last year's Speedweek Waynesfield winner Cale Thomas came home third with Tim Shaffer and Ryan Smith rounding out the top five. "This one is for Jamie Miller. Bernie and Betsy were tight with him. Everyone knows how good of a guy Jamie was. He would do anything for you. He did the graphics on my cars and on Bernie's. This is very special to all of us. My guys made some changes after the dash and this thing drove like a Cadillac," said Price Miller beside his Indy Race Parts/Garrett Racing Engines backed #71. For Dietrich, it was another second place run after having been nipped at the line by Thomas the year before. "Second sucks. I keep running second here. I love coming to the Field…there's just nothing like it. I thought I might have a shot in traffic but I made one mistake and it cost us," said Dietrich beside his Weikert's Livestock, Speedway Cars, Sandoes Fruit Market, Gary Kauffman Racing backed #48. In the Midwest Thunder D2 USAC Midgets feature, Troy, Ohio's Bryce Massingill took the lead with just two laps to go and drove to the win. "Me and Luke (Hall) have battled at everyone of the four races we have had this year. It was a super technical track tonight but JB (Jakeb Boxell) showed me the line to run," said Massingill. The All Stars head to Moler Raceway Park Friday, June 20 and wrap up Ohio Sprint Speedweek at Atomic Speedway Saturday for the Dean Knittel Memorial paying $26, 554 to win. Waynesfield Raceway Park will be back in action Thursday, July 3 for the Let Freedom Ring Night featuring the Great Lakes Super Sprints 360 winged sprint cars, the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds and the Dirt Track Truck Series. - CUMMINS SHINES IN USAC EASTERN STORM AT BIG DIAMOND
For many, a fourth place result would never even remotely be considered a disappointing performance. But then again, as the 2025 season has proven time and time again, most drivers aren’t Kyle Cummins.
