- ANTIOCH SPEEDWAY OPEN WHEEL OCTOBERFEST AWAITS NARC SPRINT CARS
(10/7/25 - Andrew Kunas) Antioch, CA ... The closing stretch of the 2025 NARC King of the West sprint car season continues this Saturday (October 11th) with the tour's second visit of the year to Antioch Speedway for the Open Wheel Octoberfest. Things have tightened up in the point standings with just three races remaining. Former series champion D.J. Netto of Hanford continues to lead in pursuit of his second NARC championship but is now holding on by a thread. Falling back to finish ninth in last Saturday's event at Thunderbowl Raceway, combined with Oroville's Sean Becker rising late to finish second, resulted in Netto's lead over Becker shrinking to just seven points. Saturday's race ironically comes at the same track where the two battled for the lead in May's Contra Costa County Clash. Becker had taken the lead, but hard racing resulted in contact between the two and Becker crashed out, and Netto went on to win his second race of the season. That was also Netto's last victory this season. Becker is winless but has been competitive all season. With the two in a close points battle with just a few races remaining, so much is on the line Saturday. Campbell's Bud Kaeding, a winner in the Johnny Key Classic in August, continues to lurk in third place in the standings, sitting a mere 21 points out of the lead. A bad night for Netto and/or Becker could potentially put Kaeding in the thick of things as well. WHO TO WATCH Tim Kaeding and the Williams Motorsports No. 0 team is expected to run the remaining NARC races this season. One of the most exciting drivers to ever come out of California, the future Hall of Famer has one NARC win to his credit this season, coming in July at Petaluma Speedway. Kaeding struggled in qualifying last Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway, but turned in a strong main event run, coming from 12th to finish fifth. Kaeding and the Zero Heroes will look to get back in the win column on Saturday. Fresno's Mariah Ede, in her first year racing 410 sprint cars, is now leading the NARC Rookie of the Year chase and is expected to race on Saturday. Joining her also is Fremont's Shane Golobic, who was the hard charger at Thunderbowl, and who won a BCRA midget race at Antioch in May and will look to pick up a sprint car win there on Saturday. Also expected to compete are reigning NARC champion Justin Sanders of Aromas, Lemoore's Gauge Garcia, Templeton's Kaleb Montgomery, Dominic Gorden of Clovis, Dylan Bloomfield of Oakley, and Max Mittry of Redding. Washington's Jesse Schlotfeldt will continue his fall swing of races in California and Oklahoma's Cannon McIntosh is expected to again pilot a Roth Motorsports entry. FAN INFO Antioch Speedway is located at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds at 1201 W 10th Street. It's an all open wheel night as the NARC 410 sprint cars will be joined by the BCRA and USAC Western States midgets. General admission for adults is $35 with kids, seniors and military getting in for $25. Front gates open at 5:00 p.m. with hot laps scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with qualifying and racing to follow. After Saturday's race in Antioch, the next NARC event is October 25th at the dirt track at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway in Bakersfield, and the season concludes with the Tribute to Gary Patterson on Saturday, November 1st at the Stockton Dirt Track. The Northern Auto Racing Club is the premier 410 winged sprint car series in the western United States. Since 1960, the traveling organization has thrilled fans at dirt tracks up and down the West Coast and crowned a "King of the West" champion. - 63rd Annual J & S Classics Williams Grove National Open Brings History Alive Saturday - Historic Race Again Pays $75,000 Top Prize Oct. 4
Mechanicsburg - Sprint car fans in the East will assemble once again this Saturday night to see the 63rd annual running of the J & S Classics Williams Grove Speedway National Open for sprint cars, sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Series, going 40-laps in distance and again paying $75,000 to the winner. The widely acclaimed event will be spun off with a Saturday A-Main total purse alone reaching nearly $192,000! The National Open has a grand history that dates back to its inception and first champion in 1963. It is a history that pre-dates all other season-finale races held anywhere in the East. Eventual Indianapolis 500 champion Gordon Johncock of Hastings, Mich., won the very first 100-lap affair in a contraption that had what looked like a wing atop its roll cage. And this too would soon come to pass, as sprint cars would begin taking over dirt tracks in the east, including Williams Grove Speedway. Ohio USAC standout Larry Dickson scored Open round two in 1964. Western Pennsylvania invader Henry Jacoby of Franklin took 1965. The name of Blaney graced the National Open winner's circle in 1966 as family patriarch Lou took Open laurels decades before his sons Dave and Dale would compete on the scene. Bobbie Adamson, becoming a region name, took back-to-back victories in 1967 and 1968 before a virtual unknown named Gene Varner from Selinsgrove drove a back-up Gary Wasson No. 5 to an upset win in 1969 after a distance of 150 laps. The decade of the 1970's dawned with Altoona flyer Johnny Grum picking up the Open win. The first of three consecutive wins by Midwest transplant Kenny Weld took place in 1971. All three of Weld's wins came aboard the Bob Weikert No. 29. Another transplant, The Bandit, Steve Smith Sr., took wins in 1974 and again in a rain-shortened 122-lap race in 1976 while The Original Outlaw, Bobby Allen drove to a win in 1975. Texas native racing brother Van May took the 1977 version of the National Open before the Pink Panther struck in 1978 with a Kramer Williamson 100-lap win. That 1978 National Open holds the distinction of technically being the first-ever race to be sanctioned by the World of Outlaws at Williams Grove despite the fact that no outlaws drivers were actually in the field. All the stars of the WoO circuit were at a race in the western part of the nation on that date but outlaws rules during the series' formative years stated that any race paying over a certain dollar amount to win would count as a sanctioned race and such is the history. Smokey Snellbaker drove to victory for Charlie Lloyd in 1979 before the grandson of a coal miner named Lucas, Allen Klinger of Hegins kicked off the 1980's with a 40-lap victory. The only National Open to ever carry an All Stars Circuit of Champions sanction took to the track in 1981 when Steve Smith Sr. returned for a third Open triumph. Lynn Paxton went back-to-back in 1982 and 1983 and stunned the racing world after his second 75-lap win by going into retirement during the off-season. Three more in a row for owner Bob Weikert came at the hands of South Dakota driver Doug Wolfgang from 1984 - 1986. Wolfgang got stunned, denied and passed by Bobby Allen's brother, Joey Allen, for the victory in 1987. The Mouse, Kenny Jacobs of Holmesville, Ohio, took another win for Weikert in 1988. The year 1989 found the first true World of Outlaws National Open contested as the yearly sanctioning began with Stevie Smith taking a victory to carry on his father's tradition. One of if not the greatest sprint car driver(s) of all time, Hoosier Steve Kinser took his first National Open checkers in 1990. Stevie Smith returned for another Open win, both for car owner Al Hamilton, in 1991, and now at a distance of 50 laps. Kinser was again the champion in 1992 before daytime specialist Don Kreitz Jr. drove to victory under the Sunday sun in 1993 after 40 laps of action. Steve Kinser was again the winner in 1994 before outlaw cousin Mark Kinser took 1995. The locals went back in front in 1996 with Lance Dewease and No. 461 car owner Walt Dyer. Sammy Swindell won his first National Open in 1997 on a night that had fans returning to frozen windshields on their cars by the time the race ended. Persistent rain forced a non-sanctioned event in 1998, won by modified turned sprint star Billy Pauch in a mount owned by John Zemaitis. Mark Kinser returned for victory in 1999 before one of today's outlaws stars and champions, Donny Schatz took his first win in 2000 as part of what would become a historic record in National Open competition in another 13 years. Dewease returned the laurels to the PA Posse turf with back-to-back wins in 2001 and 2002, for car owners Joe Harz and Al Hamilton, taking $25,000 and $30,000, respectively on both accounts. Steve Kinser was again the winner in 2003 before Schatz returned for two in a row in 2004 and 2005. The first $50,000 to win National Open was scored by Lancaster's Doug Esh in 2006 and as it turned out it was the richest and shortest Open in history when rains hit on lap 26 of 40. Schatz was again the winner in 2007. Thanks to more persistent rain, another unsanctioned event in 2008 saw future outlaws and All Stars star Cody Darrah drive to victory. Greg Hodnett took a hugely popular National Open victory for the PA Posse in 2009 driving the Jim and Sandy Kline No. 22. Sammy Swindell got the second Open win of his career in 2010. West coast flyer Jason Meyers took the 40-lap, $50,000 laurels in 2011. The 2012 version saw North Dakota's Schatz surge for an unprecedented fifth career win in the prestigious classic National Open. With the $50,000, 40-lap victory, Schatz became the winningest driver in National Open history, breaking a four-win tie with Steve Kinser. In 2013, the grand career of local driver Fred Rahmer of Salfordville was capped off at Williams Grove with his first and only triumph in the lucrative, prestigious National Open as Rahmer led the final 31 laps of the 40-lap feature before the veteran retired from the sport at the close of the season. Connecticut driver David Gravel took the $50,000 win in 2014 but not without controversy. The outlaws flyer was overtaken by local favorite Stevie Smith during the last half of the race before the slightest of contact from a closely following Gravel found Smith spinning in the first turn with six laps to go while Gravel retook command for the victory. And then Stevie Smith got redemption in what was to be the first three-day National Open in history in 2015. After three consecutive days of rain stopped the event dead in its tracks, a break with the weather on Sunday allowed a raindated Open to be completed with Smith taking the lead from Danny Dietrich on the ninth tour to lead the final 31 circuits and beat Schatz to the line for victory. An uncanny three more days of rain and raw weather wiped out a second attempt at a three-day nationals in 2016. An outlaws make up two weeks later found Danny Dietrich taking the lead from Joey Saldana with two laps to go in the 40-lap affair to score a wildly popular win for the Pennsylvania Posse. Brad Sweet also took a turn at leading. Connecticut's David Gravel struck for his second $50,000 score in the 2017 National Open. Gravel took the lead from Donny Schatz and then took the lead back from James McFadden to win the 55th Annual affair. An emotional 2018 event held just days after the tragic death of 2009 National Open champion Greg Hodnett saw local driver Lance Dewease win his fourth career nationals for his fourth different car owner. Driving for Don Kreitz Jr. in the No. 69K, Dewease wrestled the lead away from Brock Zearfoss with a three-wide move in the second turn on lap 24 to seal the 40-lap deal, worth $56,000. A tearful Dewease dedicated the victory to Hodnett. Brent Marks of Myerstown won the richest sprint car race in the history of Williams Grove Speedway and the largest cash payoff ever for a sprint car race in the Eastern United States by claiming a $65,000 victory in 2019. A former regular at the track before going on the road with the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Series a few years prior, Marks scored the WoO victory by turning back challenges from both Brian Brown who took the lead for a time early and from Daryn Pittman on a last lap restart in the 40-lap affair. A National Open billed as the biggest sprint car race in the nation went to outlaw Donny Schatz in 2020 as the North Dakotan scored $75,000 for his unrivaled sixth career victory in the event. Schatz was the third and final leader in the hotly contested 40-lapper. A lap 12 restart saw David Gravel pull the trigger for control over Logan Schuchart but after locking down to the low side in the third and fourth turns, Schatz reeled in Gravel to make a low side, first turn winning move as the leader was entering traffic on lap 21. Kyle Larson come to life after a lap 25 restart and when Schatz entered traffic with seven laps left he closed in for the win. Larson pulled a banzai run through the third and fourth corners as the pair raced to the checkers by blasting the outside line before pulling to Schatz's outside in turn four however just as it appeared that he would edge in front his mount jumped the cushion. California's Carson Macedo won the biggest sprint car race of his career in the 2021 version of the Open when he became the third and final leader in the 40-lap main, overtaking Logan Schuchart for the lead with four laps to go. Schuchart got control on lap 13 when defending event winner and current leader Brent Marks spun while working traffic. Macedo fought off the challenges of Sheldon Haudenschild for second with 12 laps to go before taking the lead from a struggling Schuchart in traffic. Still aboard the No. 69K, local Lance Dewease would end up taking a flag to flag victory in the 2022, 75K to win, 40-lap National Open but he did lose the lead to a surging Brent Marks on lap 29. Marks made a backstretch move stick but Dewease got a reprieve before the lap could be scored thanks to a red flag for a crash. Marks continued taking shots over the final 12 laps but would end up second as part of a PA Posse podium sweep at the finish with Anthony Macri in third spot. The race was postponed for three weeks after an initial rainout. For Dewease, the Open title was a fifth as driver having taken previous Opens in 1996, 2001, 2002 and 2018 for owners Walt Dyer, Joe Harz, Al Hamilton and Kreitz respectively. The victory was also Dewease's fifth in a row at the track to end the season. Additionally, the win was the third of car owner Don Kreitz's career in the event, having taken one as an owner/driver. Brent Marks of Myerstown would triumph in the 61st version of the race in 2023 for his second win in the affair on what was a night with double features after the preliminary main was postponed by drizzle a night earlier. Marks started on the pole and lost the lead early to Justin Peck before sixth starter Daryn Pittman drove by both pilots, and took the lead with 12 away. Carrying a string of five runner-up finishes into the race, Pittman appeared headed tohis elusive first victory in the race aboard the Kreitz 69K but Marks was buzzing the top and tracked downthe leader to battle for control and eventually get it on lap 22. Pittman would earn a sixth bridesmaid finish in the Open. The $75,000 win was the fifth of the season for Marks at the track and pushed his five-race winning total to $120,100. Brad Sweet won the make-up Open prelim to close the night. Carson Macedo struck for the second Open win of his career in the 2024 event after taking the lead from Anthony Macri on the eighth lap. Late in the race a surging Sheldon Haudenschild closed it up on Macedo, chopping four-tenths of a second off of the leader's advantage to cross the line a challenging second, just .164 seconds behind at the finish. Another double feature finale treated fans when Friday's B Main, dash and feature got postponed to Saturday afternoon thanks to dense fog. It turned out to be an all-California show on Saturday when Penngrove native Buddy Kofoid won the prelim before Lemoore's Macedo took the 75K top prize in the 40-lap Open itself. Adult general admission for October 4 is $50 with youth priced at $20. Kids ages 12 and under are always admitted for FREE at Williams Grove Speedway. . Fireworks will be part of the program. The 40-lap Open finale carries a raindate of October 5. Kyle Cummins returned to victory lane Saturday night at Butler Motor Speedway with the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series.
- Jeff Dyer Excited to Return to Action in His USAC/CRA 410 Sprint Car This Saturday at Perris
Yucca Valley, CA — September 25, 2025 — Just when Jeff Dyer thought his 410 season in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series was over for 2025, it will continue this Saturday, September 27th. Last month, the California Highway Patrol officer withdrew from the CRA main event at The PAS with five laps remaining, believing his engine was done for good. Fortunately, when Dyer, a Yucca Valley, California resident, examined the engine, he found no damage. As a result, he will be at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval this Saturday. The discovery was a welcome relief in a season marked by multiple engine issues for the affable driver. "It is very frustrating," Dyer said of the mechanical woes he has encountered this season. "You put a lot of time and effort into this stuff. It takes the fun out of it because you go to the track and think, 'What else can go wrong?' You put your heart and soul into it, and the results don't show it. If you are not finishing races, it is flat-out embarrassing." Two weeks ago, Dyer hit the track twice in 24 hours with the Motor City Buick/GMC California Lightning Sprints, competing at both Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway and Merced Speedway. In addition, he made his midget racing debut at Merced. Overall, it was a strong weekend for Dyer, with second-place finishes in both CLS races and an eighth-place result in the USAC Western States Midget main event. "It is frustrating," Dyer lamented about finishing second two nights in a row. "At Kern, Bobby was just better than us. He had the car to beat. At Merced, I felt we were just too equal. Every time we caught lapped traffic, the yellow came out. I actually got by him in lapped traffic when the first yellow came out. It was frustrating as we were just equal. We needed one more factor to get involved and make it a great race." "I don't like losing but losing to Bobby with all the bad luck he has had, especially his health, it was a little easier," Dyer continued. "It is good to have him back out racing with us again and seeing him get back to his old form." The midget racing opportunity came together when Dyer received a call from Kelly Nichols, asking if he'd be interested in driving the Nichols/Peckfelder #2ND at Merced. He eagerly accepted the offer and was pleased with his performance. Dyer qualified 12th out of 15 cars and started the main event from the outside of the sixth row. He kept a clean race, advancing four positions to finish in 8th place, a result he was happy with. "It was different for sure," Dyer said when asked about the difference in driving a midget and his lightning sprint and USAC/CRA car. " I didn't really know what to expect of the car, having never driven one before. I thoroughly enjoyed it. We were decent right out of the box. We were underpowered compared to the rest of the cars, but we ended up doing okay. I think we finished eighth after starting 12th. I hope I get to drive it again. He wanted me to go again on the following weekend, but I had to work. Work comes first." Dyer's teammate, 16-year-old Drake Cardey of Riverside, California, also competed in the two CLS races. The young driver's impressive rookie season continued with a fifth-place finish in both main events. Heading into the final three races of the year, he sits second in the CLS points standings, just 99 markers out of first. Additionally, he finished third in the CLS vs. BCRA Civil War points. Earlier this year, he placed second in the two-race Central California Showdown. He also leads the Rookie of the Year standings by 103 points as the season enters the home stretch. "He has had a great season and had a good weekend," Dyer said of Cardey. "We had some battles in the heat races and the main. People forget, this is his first year in a full-size racecar. He made some rookie mistakes that cost him podium finishes each day, but he is still progressing and doing very well." For fans who want to see Dyer in action on Saturday night, spectator gates at Perris Auto Speedway will open at 5:00 PM, and the first race will take the green flag at 7:00. Tickets for those 13 years of age and older are $35.00. Seniors 65 and over get in for $30.00. For kids six to 12 it is $10.00, and children five and under are admitted free. Advance tickets are available online at tix.com. There will be plenty of walk-up tickets available for everyone at the track ticket booths on Saturday. Fairgrounds parking is $20.00 (parking fee is payable by card only). Perris Auto Speedway is located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds at 18700 Lake Paris Drive in the City of Perris. The track website is perrisautospeedway.com, and the office phone number is 951-940-0134. Cardey's California Lightning Sprint Car is sponsored by Eibach Springs, Cardey Construction, Inland Rigging, Jake Swanson Shock Technology, Last Lap Insider, and Dylan Godeniz Motorsports. In 2025, the following marketing partners will help keep Dyer on track. Straight Time Stirrups, Haircuts By Susie, Jobu Racing, Justice Brothers, Fonseca Racing, Specialty Fasteners, and Blud Racing Lubricants. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Heads Back to Perris After Season-Best Run
Chino Hills, CA — September 25, 2025 — Fresh off his best outing of the season, Eddie Tafoya Jr. will be back in action this Saturday, September 27th, when Perris Auto Speedway hosts the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars. Two weeks ago, Tafoya charged from deep in the field to finish fourth and captured the "In Memory of Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award" for passing more cars than any other driver on the famous half-mile oval. The 27-year-old Chino Hills, California racer entered that race on the heels of another strong fourth-place finish when the Ultimate Sprint Car Series visited Petaluma Speedway in the Bay Area on September 1st. Tafoya, the 2018 Perris Auto Speedway Young Guns champion, opened his most recent PAS appearance by qualifying 13th in the 21-car field with a lap of 17.441 seconds. He then advanced to fourth in his heat race. In the 30-lap main event, the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year lined up on the inside of the seventh row in 13th. To make things more challenging, the World of Outlaws winged feature was moved ahead of the USAC/CRA finale at the last minute, creating a slicker surface and making passing more difficult for most of the non-wing competitors. However, that was not the case for Tafoya in his sharp-looking #51T. The second-generation driver sliced through the field, picking off 13 cars and taking the checkered flag in fourth. His charge forward may have been even greater if he had not run out of laps. Fans who want to see Tafoya in person on Saturday can find complete race details below. Event Info: Date: Saturday, September 27, 2025 Location: Perris Auto Speedway, 18700 Lake Perris Drive, Perris, CA Times: Spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Ready for Perris' Biggest Sprint Car Night of 2025
Chino Hills, CA — September 7, 2025 — After a weekend off following three straight nights of racing in Northern California, Eddie Tafoya Jr. returns to action this Saturday, September 13th, when Perris Auto Speedway hosts its biggest sprint car program of the season. Tafoya will pilot his familiar #51T in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series that sharing the spotlight with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars in a rare and exciting open-wheel doubleheader. The 27-year-old Chino Hills, California racer comes into the event with momentum, fresh off his best finish of 2025 — a fourth-place run in the Ultimate Sprint Car Series at Petaluma Speedway on Labor Day. In just his second career start with the USCS, and his first appearance at Petaluma since 2019, Tafoya charged forward from seventh on the grid to secure the top-five result on the tight 3/8-mile oval. Earlier that evening, Tafoya was third-fastest in his qualifying group, seventh overall of the 20 cars on hand and recorded a third-place finish in his 10-lap heat race. "The night went well," Tafoya said of Petaluma. "The track changes a lot. You kind of start tightening up the car and then go back to where you started for the main event. Just had to make sure the car was drivable after the two previous nights." The strong Petaluma outing came on the heels of Tafoya's participation in the historic reopening of Calistoga Speedway over Labor Day weekend. Racing returned to the iconic half-mile for the first time in six years in front of sellout crowds. On night one, Tafoya timed in eighth-fastest among 34 cars, finished fifth in his heat, and transferred through the B-main before ending the A-main in 16th. Night two saw him post the 18th-quickest qualifying lap, grab a second in his heat, and lock into the feature, where he placed 18th. "I was pretty excited to go back there," Tafoya said of his return to the big half mile. " I am always happy to go to big fast racetracks. Unfortunately, the results didn't necessarily pan out how we wanted but we still had fun up there. The first night I had a good starting spot in eighth. I just think I was way to tight. I was trying to compensate on how slick the dirt was getting but then it ended up getting rough so I was kind of caught in a sticky situation. I was just stuck." "The second night, it felt a lot better in the heat race and I almost won it," Tafoya continued. " In the main, we had a right rear shock let go. So I was all over the place and on the verge of being out of control, so I brought it in early." Tafoya, the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year, will now look to build on that experience as he tackles one of the biggest stages of the season at Perris Auto Speedway. "I really do not think about it once I am inside the racecar," Tafoya said when asked about racing in front of big crowds. "It is definitely cool to see afterwards when the people come down and appreciate the things we do. We are definitely small compared to a lot of other motorsports so its nice to have some recognition." Event Info: Date: Saturday, September 13, 2025 Location: Perris Auto Speedway, 18700 Lake Perris Drive, Perris, CA Tickets: Advance tickets available at worldofoutlaws.com. - Grant scores record-breaking win in USAC Sprint Rod End Supply Dirt Duel at Lucas Oil Speedway
WHEATLAND, MO. (Sept. 6, 2025) - Justin Grant made USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship history on Saturday night by winning the Rod End Supply Diamond Dirt Duel at Lucas Oil Speedway. Grant, a native of Ione, Calif., took the lead on lap eight and never surrendered it, outlasting Jake Swanson for the 63rd series win of his career. It sent him past Dave Darland for the most wins in tour history and was his 100th career feature win across all USAC divisions, just the eighth driver to reach the century mark. "I don't really know what to say," Grant said in victory lane. "I'm really excited and I can't thank everybody enough. I absolutely love driving sprint cars, particularly non-wing sprint cars. And I love USAC and I love everything about what we do. To be the all-time winner is just absolutely incredible. I've poured my life into this sport and into this discipline and am trying to get better and better at it. "It almost felt more special to tie Dave Darling than to pass him. He's an absolute legend and a hero. I shared something on Facebook (Saturday) about him going into the Indiana Sports Hall of Fame and wanted to make note that we're all now reaping the benefits of the things that Dave Darling did for our sport." The 30-lap feature saw the fourth-starting Grant close in on Wesley Smith, who started on the pole and led early, when caution flew on lap four after Clinton Boyles spun on the backstretch. Smith had a good restart and opened an eight-car-length lead, but by lap six Grant once again was knocking on the door with Swanson joining the battle in third. Grant was able to take the lead sliding past Smith on the inside out of turn four to complete lap eight. Grant was off the running from there, leading by more than a second as he caught lapped traffic by lap 12. As Smith and Swanson dueled, Grant was driving away up front. But a lap-16 caution for a pair of cars off the pace bunched the leaders for another restart. Wyatt Burks worked his way into third on the restart with Swanson applying pressure to Grant. Swanson kept chipping away running a lower groove as the laps clicked by and the two dealt with slower cars. Grant was able to hang on and capture his milestone victory - then climb gingerly from the car to celebrate. He suffered a broken left foot in a racing accident on July 27 at Lawrenceburg Speedway and drives with a specially-fitted boot on the surgically repaired foot. "I can't thank all the people behind me enough. My wife Ashley, my parents, my grandma," Grant said. "Everybody that supports me. It hasn't been an easy weekend. We've been changing everything and working my guys to death and they're about sick of me, but it pays off when you win for them." Grant paid special tribute to car owner Kevin Birchmeier. "We've been through some really high highs and low lows together," Grant said. "I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Kevin. He supports me 100 percent." Swanson, of Anaheim, Calif., said he felt like he had a shot at tracking down Grant. While proud of his strong run, it also was frustrating. "I was driving my (butt) off, but he did a good job and didn't make any mistakes," Swanson said. "Obviously, he's one of the greatest to do this. It stings. I felt we had the best race car." Burks came home in third with Michel Moles fourth and Logan Seavey fifth in USAC's first appearance at Lucas Oil Speedway in 19 years. Logan Seavey set a new track record for non-wing sprints for his eighth fast-time of the season award on the series with a lap of 14.928 seconds. Brady Bacon (15.159, Sept. 8, 2006) held the previous record. USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship season points leader Kyle Cummins started 11th and finished ninth. Simon wins INEX Legends feature: Trenton Simon of Joplin led all 20 laps to grab the INEX Legends feature win, beating Austin Azeez by 2.6 seconds. It was Simon's 14th win of the season. Simon had built up a 3.5-second lead over Azeez when caution on lap nine slowed the action and took away his big margin. It didn't take long for Simon to check out again after the restart and he dominated the remaining 11, caution-free laps. "It was really a matter of finding out what the track was. I hadn't been here in a while," Simon said. "We made adjustments as the night went on and it paid off in the end." Jay Reynolds finished third with Justin Comer fourth and Jett Stovall fifth after starting 16th. The Legends portion of the program was sponsored by Outlaw Plumbing. LUCAS OIL SPEEDWAY UNOFFICIAL. - USAC Sprint leader Cummins aims for more Lucas Oil Speedway magic at Rod End Supply Diamond Dirt Duel
WHEATLAND, MO. (Sept. 4, 2025) - When Kyle Cummins makes just his second appearance at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday, the Indiana native can only hope things go as well as his previous time on the Wheatland dirt. It was 2018 when Cummins drove to victory in the non-winged portion of the Jesse Hockett-Daniel McMillin Memorial. That remains one of the memorable wins that Cummins, 38, has picked up during his successful open-wheel racing career. "We ran like third or fourth on our prelim night and then won the finale," Cummins said. "I have not been there since, but definitely looking forward to seeing how things go this time. That's a very, very nice place with everything. The pits, the grandstands. It's a nice facility. "We didn't take many notes back in the day, but hopefully we have a little bit of thought. At least I've ran there once so I know a little bit how the track works." Cummins continues his pursuit of a USAC AMSOIL National Sprint championship on Saturday when USAC returns to Wheatland for the first time since 2006 for the Rod End Supply Diamond Dirt Duel. The 30-lap feature will pay $6,000 to the winner. Cummins, a second-generation open-wheel racer from Princeton, Ind., leads the championship standings by 258 points over Mitchel Moles of Raisin City, California. Logan Seavey, of Cutter, California., is third 276 behind Cummins. After a fast start to the season, with a feature win in the opener at Volusia Speedway Park and five feature wins in the first 11 events, Cummins has put himself in great position to win his first USAC championship in his second season with Petty Performance Racing. "We started the season really strong and kind of had some bad luck here and there," Cummins said. "We've got the monkey off our back a little bit of late and found some stuff with the car. We're on car number three now. We've tore up some stuff and kind of learning this one. "All in all we're pretty excited about how things are going and looking forward to finishing these last 15 races strong and trying to get a couple of more wins and have a good finish to the season." Following in the footsteps of his father, Mark Cummins, since opening in open karts at age nine, Kyle Cummins developed into one of the top sprint car racers in the Midwest. He's the all-time winningest driver of the Midwest Sprint Car Series and a five-time champion in that series. It wasn't until a fast start to the USAC National Tour in 2023 that Cummins began to think about chasing a national championship. He faded that season and realized that upgrades were needed to pursue such an endeavor. "The last two years we've decided to run for it and be fully prepared, have all the stuff ready," Cummins said. "We built this new team with Petty Performance and that's been the goal. Last year was kind of a building season, to take some notes and do a lot of trial and error, working some stuff with the car to give us a really good baseline. "We started out this season really strong and that's been the goal from the get-go, from at least 2024 that was the plan, to win the championship." Cummins said the competition level on the USAC National series is rugged. There's no such thing as resting on your laurels, even with a sizable points lead. "It seems like the top 8-10 guys could win any night. It's definitely tough," Cummins said. "Everyone has the same goal, they all want to win. It's like all sports, any one can win on a given night and you just give it your best shot and see how things go. "We have a decent-sized lead. We just need to finish out strong and not let up and hopefully the last couple of races we won't have any pressure and can just go out and have fun." Cummins won the 2018 Hockett-McMillin by leading all 30 laps of the feature, outlasting Wyatt Burks and Colton Cottle for the win. While he didn't know Jesse Hockett well, that win remains a special one. "I know a lot of people have come there trying to win it and for us to show up the first time and win it, that was pretty exciting," Cummins said. "To kind of look back over your career and see some of those more prestigious wins, that makes it a little more special." INEX Legends in for Super Stocks as support class: A late schedule switch will see INEX Legends running as support class on Saturday. In April, Lucas Oil Speedway had the opportunity to add the USAC National Sprints and, at that time, it was decided that the Hickamo Super Stocks would be the support division. This was scheduled not knowing it conflicted with Nevada Speedway's Lehmann Memorial. Lucas Oil Speedway feels it's important for all local tracks to be mindful of their neighbors' special events, so the Hickamo Super Stocks will not run this Saturday with those competitors encouraged to support Nevada Speedway. Lucas Oil Speedway's pit gates open at 3 p.m. Saturday with grandstands at 4 p.m., hot laps at 6:30 and racing at 7:05. Grandstand General Admission:โจ Adults (13 and up) - $28 Seniors (62 and over & military) - $25 Youth (ages 6-12) - $10 Kids (5 and under) - FREE Family pass (two adults and up to three youth) - $66 Pit pass - $45 (Credit/debit card fees will be applied at time of purchase at gates) For information on admission or camping for any Lucas Oil Speedway event in 2025, contact Admissions Director Nichole McMillan at (417) 282-6119 or (417) 295-6043 or email her at nmcmillan@lucasoilspeedway.com for more information. The 30-lap feature will pay $6,000 to the winner. Hickamo Super Stocks also will be on the program with Hickamo adding money to make it a $1,000-to-win feature. - It's a Simpson sweep as Ron Jenkins Memorial wraps at Lucas Oil Speedway
WHEATLAND, MO. (Aug. 30, 2025) - Chris Simpson of Oxford, Iowa, polished off a flawless weekend on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway, completing a sweep of the 11th annual Ron Jenkins Memorial. Simpson backed his Friday-night victory with another Comp Cams Super Dirt Series feature win, this time leading the final 30 of 40 laps, outdistancing Clay Stuckey. Simpson earned $12,000 for the win, which included a $2,000 bonus courtesy of Mary Jenkins Holt in honor of the late Ron Jenkins, builder and owner of the original Lucas Oil Speedway. Including a pair of $500 fast-time bonus awards plus a $100 series bonus each night for fast time, Simpson took home $20,200 for the two nights. "I just want to thank everybody at Lucas Oil and the Jenkins family for the extra money they put up," Simpson said. "It means a lot. I go to work every day, from 7 until 3:30 and go out and work on my car afterward. "I don't do this for a living. To be able to come down here ... I've had one other week when I brought home $20,000 close to home." Daniel Adam beat Simpson to the lead at the start, the first time in two nights that Simpson had not set the pace. Adam rolled away to nearly a one-second lead before Simpson began to reel him in, drawing within .215 seconds by lap 10 with Terry Phillips another 1.2 seconds behind in third. Simpson took the lead on lap 11, sliding past Adam on the inside coming off turn four. Just five laps later, Simpson had sped away to a two-second command over Adam with Clay Stuckey taking third away from Phillips. "The top was better. I could see that and he had a pretty good cushion," Simpson said of Adam's early lead. "I knew I had to get out there and ride and just follow him. I tried to keep the car a little straighter than he was so I wouldn't burn up the right rear." As action remained caution-free and the track took on rubber, Simpson upped his cushion to 2.4 seconds by the halfway mark on lap 20. Adam was able to cut into the margin a bit, but Simpson continued to sail along with a comfortable margin. The first caution came on lap 33 as fourth-running Phillips slowed in turn four. That took away Simpson's 1.8-second lead over Adam with seven to go, putting some mystery into the late stages of the event. Simpson had a flawless restart and Adam slipped a bit, allowing Stuckey to get into second and R.C. Whitwell went to third. Simpson's lead was .935 seconds with three to go when Adam slow in turn two with a flat tire, bringing out a caution. Stuckey, of Shreveport, La., said he thought he might have a shot at Simpson the restart, but knew it had to happen quickly. "I thought I could catch him. There was a second there I was slowly creeping up on him," Stuckey said. "I maybe had five laps left on my right rear tire. You could tell with about four laps to go that it was done, but with the weekend I've had I'll definitely take second." Completing his big weekend, Simpson finished it off after the restart and beat Stuckey by .793 seconds at the finish. Whitwell was third with Cole Wells of Aurora fourth and Mason Oberkramer fifth after starting 14th. A trio of southwest Missouri drivers joined Wells with top-10 finishes: Dillon McCowan of Urbana (seventh), Ryan Johnson from Aurora (eighth) and Payton Looney of Republic (ninth). Simpson set fast qualifying time for the second straight night, with a lap of 16.091 in Group B. Simpson also went on to win his heat race to clinch the pole position for the feature. Frye picks up Super Stocks win: An old pro celebrated in victory lane for the first time in long time as Late Model legend Bill Frye of Greenbrier, Ark., held off Taylor Carver for the $1,000 Hickamo Super Stocks feature win. Frye, driving a car owned by regular-season Super Stocks track champion Tim Brown, led all but the opening lap. The former MLRA and MARS champion was driving the car to help his long-time friend Brown dial it in for the Super Stocks Big Buck 50 Presented by Whitetail Trophy Oct. 10-12. "I think the last race I won was a motorcycle hare scramble," a laughing Frye said in victory lane. He added that the Street Stock drove "to me, just like a Late Model. Man, it felt just like one. It's been 40 years since I really drove a Street Stock and I don't remember it being nothing like this. "This is a lot better car than I had. I want to thank Tim and Staci Brown for the opportunity to do this. I tried to back out of it and he kept begging. I was like, 'OK, I'll come do this' and I'm so glad I did." Frye was seventh on Friday in the feature, his first action since driving one event in a Late Model in 2022. Prior to that, he had last raced in 2019 in the Modified division. Frye took the lead on lap two, but Carver soon was applying pressure with Johnny Fennewald third. It stayed that way until lap 10 when five cars spun in turn three to bring out the race's fourth caution. With everyone staying mostly attached to the bottom groove the last half of the race, Frye held off Carver by .260 seconds or just over one car length for the win. Lap-one leader Johnny Coats was third with Ted Welschmeyer fourth and Matthew Kay fifth. Emma Davis earns Show-Me Vintage Racers win: Ninth-starting Emma Davis of Kansas City took over the lead with three leads to go and held on to earn the Show-Me Vintage Racers feature win, her first in her second season of racing with the SMVR. "The track was great. The car just handled great," Davis said in victory lane. Davis' parents, Beth and John Martin, also were in the SMVR field. John finished seventh in the feature and Beth was 12th. Emma Davis started racing at the age of six in go-karts, then moved to E-Mods and Lightning Sprints. "My parents raced with me tonight and I couldn't do it without them, or without the support of my wonderful husband," Davis said. "I have a great support system." Jason Isabell went from sixth to first on the opening lap and led until lap eight, when seventh-starting Ken Brown took over the top spot. Caution flew on lap nine and, while the track was being cleared, Isabell's car lost power to end his night. That elevated Mark Evinger into second with six to go with Davis third. Davis made the pass for the lead headed into turn three on lap 13 and she held on for the win, beating Evinger by .346 seconds. Damon Clevenger was third with Brown fourth. - Macri Tops Three-Way Battle For Zemaitis Tribute At Williams Grove - Drevicki scores USAC East 360s
Mechanicsburg - Anthony Macri came out on top of an electrifying three-way battle for the sprint car win at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, taking $8,000 for his fourth oval victory of the season in the Zemaitis Tribute Race. In support action, Steve Drevicki took the win in the USAC East 360 sprint feature for his third career oval win in the division. Danny Dietrich took the lead at the start of the 25-lap John and Pee Wee Zemaitis Tribute feature, beating Parker Price Miller back to the stripe with control. After starting fifth, Chase Dietz motored up to second on the opening lap and began his quest for the lead with Macri moving by Price Miller for third on the ninth circuit. Dietrich entered the rear of the field on the 11th tour and immediately began to struggle putting cars a lap down. For several laps Dietrich was bottled up behind Brady Bacon and this allowed both Dietz and Macri to close in. The slickening track proved dicey and when Dietrich missed his entry into the first turn on lap 19, Dietz immediately drove to his inside while Macri blasted to the outside trying to swoop by both pilots. However Macri only came up with second as Dietz took the point. For the next four laps Macri slammed his car onto the high cushion as he entered the first corner in an effort to muscle by Dietz while Dietrich lurked within striking distance. Lap after lap Macri would draw beside the leader but couldn't quite muster enough power to complete the pass. And then on lap 23 the lead trio staged a crowd-pleasing three-car battle for command with Macri changing lanes to the inside, Dietz in the middle and Dietrich up on the cushion in the second corner. Macri came away the pacesetter as the trio pushed themselves off of the turn and onto the backchute while Dietrich also got by Dietz. Once at the front, Macri would drive to the win by .369 seconds over Dietrich, who was racing for his second win in a row. Dietz settled for third followed by Troy Wagaman Jr. and Price Miller. Sixth through 10th went to Brock Zearfoss, Austin Bishop, Freddie Rahmer, Logan Rumsey and Ryan Newton. Heats went to Price Miller, Dietz and Wagaman Jr. while Kody Hartlaub won the consolation race. Cameron Smith set fast time with a lap of 17.278 seconds. The win was the 14th of Macri's career at Williams Grove and his 12th overall of the season. Chris Allen Jr. led the first 13 laps of the 25-lap USAC East 360 feature before sixth starter Steve Drevicki of Reading drove into the lead. Drevicki took the win by .542 seconds ahead of Christian Bruno. Allen Jr. ended up third followed by Kyle Spence and Steve Wilbur. Heats went to Joey Amantea, Bruno and Ed Aikin. Ron Helmick took the consolation race. Feature Finishes 8/29/25 410 sprint cars, 25 laps: 1. Anthony Macri, 2. Danny Dietrich, 3. Chase Dietz, 4. Troy Wagaman Jr., 5. Parker Price Miller, 6. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Heads North for Labor Day Weekend Tripleheader
Chino Hills, CA — August 28, 2025 — For the first time since 2021, Chino Hills, California, sprint car racer Eddie Tafoya Jr. is heading to Northern California for three big races over Labor Day weekend. The now-veteran driver will kick things off this Saturday and Sunday, August 30th and 31st, competing in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series 14th Annual Louie Vermeil Classic at the legendary Calistoga Speedway. On Labor Day Monday, he'll make the short trip to Petaluma Speedway to battle with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series. The weekend at Calistoga is one of the most highly anticipated events on the West Coast in 2025. Shuttered since 2019, the picturesque half-mile clay oval seemed doomed until the city purchased the fairgrounds property, bringing racing back to the historic venue. For 28-year-old Tafoya, it will be just his second trip to Calistoga. The last time he raced there came on September 1, 2019 — the track's final event before the shutdown — during the season he earned USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year honors. That night he qualified 16th in a 24-car field, started 16th, and finished 15th in the main event. His most recent outing at Petaluma Speedway came in 2021, when he placed 11th in the USAC/CRA main event on the tight 3/8-mile clay oval after returning from a summer racing stint in Indiana. Tafoya heads north after an impressive performance two weeks ago at Perris Auto Speedway. A violent qualifying crash left his car badly damaged, but he and his crew went to work immediately, thrashing in the pits to get the #51T ready for his heat race. Forced to start at the rear of both his heat and the 30-lap main due to not recording a qualifying time, Tafoya charged forward spectacularly. After starting eighth in his eight-lap heat race, he advanced to fourth in the heat. In the main, he started 24th, steered his car impressively through the pack, and avoided the on-track chaos. All told, he passed 16 cars in the feature to finish 8th and capture the In Memory of Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award. Fans unable to make the trip to Northern California can catch both nights of the Louie Vermeil Classic live on Flo Racing, with coverage beginning at 5:00 p.m. PDT. Tafoya can be followed on Instagram at @eddietafoya51. The Tafoya Racing team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for their continued support of the 2025 season. Mechanicsburg - The long and successful car ownership career of John and Pee Wee Zemaitis and their famous Zemco No. 1 race cars will be celebrated on Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway as the oval hosts Zemaitis Tribute Night for the 410 sprints. - Milan, Smith and Wagner earn wins at 14th annual Impact Signs, Awnings & Wraps Open Wheel Showdown
WHEATLAND, MO. (Aug. 16, 2025) - The 14th annual Impact Signs, Awnings & Wraps Open Wheel Showdown was particularly memorable for Scotty Milan. The 22-year-old from Fort Collins, Colo., earned his first career POWRi 410 Winged Sprint feature win Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway, taking command midway through the 30-lap feature. Also posting feature wins Wesley Smith (POWRi WAR/MWRA Wholesale Batteries Challenge Series and Jack Wagner (POWRi 305 Winged Sprints). Milan, who said he had found tough luck all season after joining the series, grabbed the lead on lap 16 away from Xavier Doney after Doney had led the first 15 circuits. Milan, who had started 13th, gradually sliced his way through the field before catching and passing the leader on lap 16. He went on to beatSean Rayhill by just over two seconds in the 30-lap main event. "I finally won," Milan said excitedly in victory lane. "All year has been kind of rough. We have good runs and then instant bad luck. I'm just excited to win and coming from 13th it wasn't easy. We had the car on a rain. I was like 'holy crap, I'm moving.' First POWRi Sprint Car win, pretty sweet." Doney led in the early going after starting from the pole, but Sean Rayhall was giving him pressure just a half-second behind seven laps in. One lap later, the first caution flew with Doney holding a .856-second lead. Rayhall lost second on lap 10 as Miller slid around him as Doney led by just under one second. Doney's lead was a half-second at the halfway mark on lap 15 and one lap later, Milan used the low groove to get past Doney and take the lead. Milan wasted no time building a 1.1-second lead by lap 20 over Miller as Doney slipped to third. Miller pulled even with Milan on lap 23, but was unable to complete the pass as Milan fought back and pushed his lead to a second with five laps to go. Caution flew on lap 25 for a spin in turn two, setting up a five-lap shootout as Milan led Doney and Miller. Milan was up to the challenge, drawing away late to take the win by two seconds over Rayhall. "I know we're new here, but this 14 team, we have a lot of grit," Rayhall said of his team. "I'm just grateful to be here." Doney was third with Clinton Boyles fourth and Miller fifth. Smith captures WAR/MWRA Sprints feature: Wesley Smith of Nixa led all the way and pulled away late to claim the POWRi WAR/MWRA Sprint feature, beating Wyatt Burks for the victory. "The competition level around here, I hope the fans can understand that it's top-notch," Smith said. The pole-starting Smith grabbed the lead at the start and was in front by 1.5 seconds ahead of Dakota Earls when caution appeared on lap two. After the restart, fifth-starting Anthony Nicholson took over second as Smith continued to lead, opening a 2.8-second gap by lap eight. Another caution, this time on lap nine, erased a three-second command for the leader over Burks, who started sixth. Those two dueled it out after the restart, but Smith started to reclaim some breathing room by lap 13 of the 25-lapper and his lead was two second with five to go. Smith kept pulled away from there and beat Burks by 3.1 seconds at the finish. Jack Wagner wound up third with Samuel Wagner fourth and Nicholson was fifth. "Coming here to Lucas, I'm glad I could make it look that way," Smith said of the decisive triumph. "Especially with the big USAC show and the Jesse Hockett-Daniel McMillin Memorial coming up. This place is a tough joint to get around. It's hard on tires and hard on engines, but that makes it all the more fun when you can win." Wagner wins POWRi 305 Winged Sprints: It was all Jack Wagner in the finale of the program as he lead all but two laps in the POWRi 305 Winged Sprint feature. Wagner, of Lone Jack, Mo. started on the pole and drove away to a two-second advantage over Danny Smith by lap 10, the halfway mark of the race. But the race took on a new complexion at that point when the first caution flew, taking away Wagner's big lead. The field ran just one lap before another caution. It was a battle after the restart, as Danny Smith used momentum for a pass off turn four to take the lead on lap 14. Wagner didn't give way, though, reclaiming the top spot on lap 16 coming off turn two. Wagner held on from there and be ninth-starting Landon Muehlberger to score the win by a 1.9-second margin. "I about lost it there to Danny Smith," Wagner said. "I knew better than to try and get this thing wound up for sound. It's roll around the bottom. It is technical. You have to make sure this car is pedaled in and out and don't slip the tire. I just didn't know you have to be that slow about it." Jake Martens was third with Smith fourth and Levi Hinck fifth. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Set to Return to Action at Perris, Calistoga, and Placerville
Chino Hills, CA — August 4, 2025 — After a brief summer break, Eddie Tafoya Jr. is ready to get back behind the wheel when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series returns to Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday, August 16th. The race marks the beginning of a busy late-summer schedule for the driver of the Specialty Fasteners #51T. Following the Perris event, Tafoya and the team will head north for one of the most anticipated weekends in recent sprint car history — the grand re-opening of the legendary Calistoga Speedway on August 30th and 31st. The doubleheader promises to be a major highlight on the USAC/CRA calendar. Then, on September 1st, Tafoya will cap off the Labor Day holiday weekend by competing with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series at Placerville Speedway. Prior to the break, Tafoya raced at his home track, Perris Auto Speedway, on July 19th — just 10 days after celebrating his 28th birthday. Though the final result wasn't what he'd hoped for, the Southern California veteran showed speed and poise throughout the night. He qualified a strong seventh fastest out of 21 cars with a lap of 16.875. In his heat race, the 2018 PAS Young Gun Champion and 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year started and finished fourth in a stacked field. That set him up in the seventh position for the 30-lap main event. In front of the second-largest crowd of the season, Tafoya jumped into a fierce battle for fifth place early in the main. Showing the speed to challenge for a top-four spot, his momentum was unfortunately stalled by lapped traffic. After clearing a slower car, Tafoya's night took an unfortunate turn when he came to a stop in turn one, ending his charge. Despite the setback, Tafoya's performance showed his car and confidence are in the right place heading into the late-season stretch. "I just have to eliminate the mistakes and figure how to get around traffic when it gets slick like that," Tafoya said. "I was dealing with traffic and switching lines every lap. The lapper would go to where I switched to. I was just kind of going back and forth. I finally got a good run down the front straight. I just held it on a little longer than I should have just to get around the lapper. Then I got in the slick and locked up the brakes and slid to a stop." Forced to restart at the back of the field with only limited laps remaining, the odds were stacked against him. But Tafoya wasn't done. He mounted a determined comeback, charging through the field and clawing his way back to a 10th-place finish at the checkered flag — a clear indicator of the team's pace and persistence. "I thought for a second there we were going to start on the front row again (after qualifying), but we missed it by .01," Tafoya commented about the night of racing. "That definitely could have changed the way that main event went for us." "I am happy with the speed, and I think I have been driving good," he continued. "I just have to focus and put it all together on the same night. I have been trying to put myself in a good position and we have been doing that lately. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Looks for First 2025 Win at Perris Auto Speedway This Saturday
Chino, CA - July 17, 2025 — Coming off his best Perris Auto Speedway finish of the 2025 season, a fifth-place result on June 21st, Eddie Tafoya Jr. will return to the Riverside County half-mile clay oval this Saturday night, July 19th. Spectator gates at the 29-year old speed plant will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first race will be at 7:00. For Tafoya, who recently celebrated his 28th birthday, it will be his fifth start of 2025 at Perris. In the first four races at the track this year, he has achieved three top-10 finishes. Besides his fifth-place showing last month, he came home eighth at the track on April 5th and was ninth in the annual Salute to Indy at the end of May. His fifth-place run last month equaled his performance at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway on February 22nd. The only race at Perris this year that he did not finish in the top 10 occurred on March 1st, when his belts came loose in the car, and he finished 13th. Before the 30-lap main event last month, Tafoya qualified sixth fastest in the 20 car field. He then placed fourth in his 10-lap heat race. The Chino Hills, California resident started on the pole and led the first seven laps of the main event. He ended up taking fifth after a tough battle for positions five through 10 late in the race. On Saturday, Tafoya, the 2018 Perris Auto Speedway Young Guns Sprint Car Champion and the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year, will only be making his third July appearance at the local track since the end of Covid. In 2021, he finished third in the July race on the oval affectionately known as The PAS, and last year he was seventh. In 2022 and 2023, he spent July racing with the USAC National Sprint Car Series in the Midwest. To see Tafoya and the rest of the USAC/CRA stars in action on Saturday, spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m., and the first green flag will wave at 7:00. Ticket Information 13 and over: $35 Kids (6-12): $10 Children 5 and under: FREE Fairgrounds Parking: $20 Perris Auto Speedway is located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds at 18700 Lake Perris Drive in the City of Perris.
